[LegacyUG] Losing Color Scheme

2010-05-02 Thread Lloyd Hite

Lloyd,

It probably is a good idea, although I do not do it myself, but has little
or no connection with your subject!

What is more important for colour schemes is to go to
OptionsCustomiseColours and on the bottom right are the options to save
and load your colour schemes. Now this I do, and it has saved my life on
numerous occasions.

Ron Ferguson

Thanks Ron,
For some reason, I can send messages to LUG but cannot receive
messages, not even my copy of the sent message.I did receive the
confirm subscription message and the confirmation message.

[LegacyUG] Cannot receive messages from LUG.

2010-05-02 Thread Lloyd Hite
Hi List,
I can send messages to LUG but cannot receive from them. I have
checked with my alternate e-mail client and have checked my ISP's
online mail, no mail. I can receive mail from all the other lists I
am subscribed to.
I sent an e-mail to LUG early this morning and after not receiving a
response in two hours, I went to the LUG archives and found my mail
there along with a response from a subscriber.
Any ideas on where the problem exist?
I first thought I had been unsubscribed so I resubscribed, received
the confirm subscription and then after sending it, I received the
subscription confirmed mail. Still no mail after that.

Re: [LegacyUG] Cannot receive messages from LUG.

2010-05-02 Thread Bob Janice
Lloyd,

I'd take a look at your ISP and see if it is putting the Legacy messages
into a SPAM folder or possibly deleting them outright. If it is, then
the only thing you can do is contact juno.com and tell them that LUG
messages are not SPAM.

Also, make sure that your email client is not putting them into a SPAM
folder on your computer (kinda obvious I know - but you need to cover
all the bases).

To me, that's indicative of an ISP treating them as SPAM. My ISP enables
me to let them handle most of the SPAM. I don't even see it. I would
guess that some customer of that ISP has reported the LUG as a spammer.

This happened to me several weeks ago (and I think some others) when I unsubbed

If you are certain spam filtering is not the problem, contact Legacy customer

Jim,

For a short while there was a conversion tool built into Legacy. It was
wonderful. It made my life very, very nice. Unfortunately, it was soon removed
in an update; far, far before I could **easily** convert all my sources. One
must strike while the iron is hot

The reason we were given as to the removal of the conversion tool was that it
did not always work correctly and that there were some unhappy campers as a
result.

I, for one, would be **most** willing to take my chances with the Legacy
conversion tool.

I have Legacy version 7.4.0.39 and have imported a Family Tree Maker
 gedcom file.

The Legacy Manual (Legacy 7.0) describes a 'Source Template Conversion
 Tool' on page 72.

When I go to the Master Source List and click 'Options' there is no
item in the sub-menu called 'Source Template Conversion Tool'. Has this
feature been removed or accessed from another location in the program?

 Thanks,

 Phil

RE: [LegacyUG] Converting Source Citations

2010-05-02 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
Brian, in all fairness, no one said which decade it will roll out. As far as I
know, the group really wants to get this operational, but are never putting it
out half way. And the fix up time is the best in the business, IMHO. This has
been out there since before/when 7.0 came out, but as newbies come in, they
don't (needn't) search the Archives to find old unsolved problems, so this
surfaces again every few months.
Just one of those things.

 Wow...stop the presses. This feature
is still under development This is the first time in
recent events I've heard anyone from Millennia say that the
tool is still alive and still under development. I realize
that given some other product development priorities, and
because of the problems associated with the tool's code
implementation, it is probably far down on the list. So I'm
not holding my breath. Thanks, Sherry, for at least letting
us know what is going on.

RE: [LegacyUG] Converting Source Citations

2010-05-02 Thread Brian L. Lightfoot
That's the point one or more of the Ops was pointing outthe program itself
still mentions the use of the Source Conversion Tool but the tool itself still
remains MIA. Using the old-fashioned F1 key and entering source conversion
brings up the #1 ranked result -- Source Template Conversion Tool along with
complete instructions on how to use the tool!!

Those of us that have been on the LUG for an extended period realize this topic
comes up every so often. I just wish Millennia would reanalyze the likelihood
of this tool actually materializing before Version 8 comes out, and it not then
remove these fossilized remnants of its mention from within the current version
of the program. Expecting a newbie Legacy user to navigate the archives of the
LUG to find something that the F1 key talks about might be asking a lot from
such a newbie. Not impossible...but still quite a stretch. I was just surprised
that Sherry actually made mention of the fact that the tool is still being
worked on because I thought it was a dead deal.

[LegacyUG] possible problem

2010-05-02 Thread Tony Rolfe
A few weeks ago I reported what I thought was a bug but, after a few
e-mails, the developers have told me that Legacy is acting as designed
and they won't be changing things. I thought it would be a good idea to
mention the problem here, so everyone is aware. I know it happens in
this particular situation and suspect it happens in other similar areas
as well.

Imagine you have an individual with an event, the event has a source and
the source detail has an image attached. Now, if you move the image
into another directory, nothing happens until you use Legacy and
highlight the source. At this point, Legacy realises that the file
isn't where it was, so it goes off and looks in all its known
directories, finds it for you and the file is magically relinked. You
might never know this has happened.

That's all well and good, except that Legacy isn't actually looking for
that file; it is looking for a file of that name. If there is a second
file with the same name anywhere in Legacy's known directories, then
Legacy is just as likely to find the other one and relink that. Without
telling you.

Of course, if Legacy can't find any file with that name, it comes up
with the familiar requester and, if you let Legacy search for you, it
will ask if it finds the right one.

I was hoping that the Is this the right file? would be inserted when
legacy finds one in the scenario above, but apparently that isn't going
to happen, so I guess the advice is to make sure that all your files
have unique names.

Tony-

We do need the unique names; no, we have to have them. Suppose I had
the following:
1 BrownPhoto.jpg in C:\Photos (This might be Kathy.)
2 BrownPhoto.jpg in C:\Camera (This might be David.)
3 BrownPhoto.jpg in D:\Family (This might be William.)

Now I have everyone's photo linked correctly and it works. Then I
replace Kathy's photo. Legacy will do its job and look for
BrownPhoto.jpg. It will find it, but it won't be Kathy's photo. Had
I been using unique names, Legacy could probably find Kathy's photo
if it existed.

[LegacyUG] HELP functions

2010-05-02 Thread Robert Carneal USA
When you go to Help, if you refer to a particular topic with
frequency, you can elect to put that topic into Help Favorites tab
to make it easier and faster to refer in the future.

I use this, and I am wondering how I can backup my Help|Favorites if
that is possible. Does anyone here backup their Help|Favorites?

Thanks.

Robert

I cannot help you Robert. When you open Help you are using the Windows
Help Program not Legacy. I do not know where Help stores the favourites.

Thank you. I had not realized I was using Windows Help, I thought I
was using something dave personally wrote. That gives me an idea- I
think I know whom I can ask. If I find out, shall I post it here or
would that be off topic to Legacy?

Thanks.

Robert

RE: [LegacyUG] HELP functions

2010-05-02 Thread Sherry/Support
The Help topics for Legacy are what Dave writes, along with the indexing.

The Help feature itself is a Windows feature.

I have seen the Favorites come and go and Dave has said that he has no control
over this part of the Help file since it's a Windows feature.

Thanks for using Legacy.

Goodness. So Favorites and die without warning (and I lose them)
and later be reborn anew without any favorites? Am I understanding
that correctly?

Thanks.
