Re: [LegacyUG] Pictures

2012-02-29 Thread Ron Ferguson
Alan,

I do not think that we will get very far until Donna starts to answer at
least some of the questions which Sherry and I asked. Your suggestion may be
valid, or there again, may not, we have no way of telling. BTW older
versions of XP used the FAT system, I know because I had to convert mine to
NTFS.

If your file system on your operating system is NTFS (XP, Vista, Win 7),
then you have a limit of 4,294,967,295 files per folder. So this is
unlikely to be your problem.

Have you had a look at your web browser cache - maybe that needs to be
larger or cleaned out.

Pretty neat CE - I had not used this approach, having opted for the 'Tools' --

[LegacyUG] Combining two sources

2012-02-29 Thread Georgia
I am using Legacy 7 and I have upgraded to build .154. I'm not sure if
my problem is related to that or not.

I discovered two identical master sources and wanted to combine them. I
highlighted one, clicked on the button to combine with another source
and nothing happens. I'm not sure if I've ever tried to do this before
but it seems like something should happen. Am I missing a step? Both
sources are still there and I never get a question asking what I want to
combine the first source with.

Thank you!

Re: [LegacyUG] Combining two sources

2012-02-29 Thread Ron Ferguson
Georgia,

It works fine for me. Did you notice that after first clicking on the button
the button label changes to say that you need to select the new source and
click again?

Subject: [LegacyUG] Combining two sources

I am using Legacy 7 and I have upgraded to build .154. I'm not sure if
my problem is related to that or not.

I discovered two identical master sources and wanted to combine them. I
highlighted one, clicked on the button to combine with another source
and nothing happens. I'm not sure if I've ever tried to do this before
but it seems like something should happen. Am I missing a step? Both
sources are still there and I never get a question asking what I want to
combine the first source with.

Thank you!

RE: [LegacyUG] Moving FROM FTM

2012-02-29 Thread Paul Gray
Hi Rick,

The only piece of advice I have is to run Tools--- Compact File on your FTM
file prior to exporting. This checks, and sometimes fixes any data problems
that might exist in your FTM file. I believe Compact file is under Tools in
all versions of FTM since at least FTM 2006 (v16).

It's similar to Check/Repair in Legacy.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Moving FROM FTM

I'm going to take the plunge and move from FTM (after 10+ years) to Legacy.
Is there information available on making this move? I know how to
export/import GEDCOMs. But is there a list of best practices or possible
pitfalls to watch out for as I move my files?

Thanks in advance for any advice or instructions.
Rick

Ron,

I expected the button label to change and it didn't. That was what
confused me.
