Am I correct in thinking that it is not possible to have the other

 Wondering how others handle this?

I do occasionally add unlinked people if I think they do belong
*somewhere* but I would never add them as someone's relatives unless I
was fairly sure they belonged there. There's too much scope for errors
getting propagated that way. If an individual is unlinked then I know
immediately there's more work to be done there. I would add a Research
Note to my known relative to indicate that he may be linked to X, Y and
Z. Probably also add a To Do to research those possible relationships
specifically.

If you have a standard installation the help file will be here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Legacy8\Legacy8.chm
Browse to it, right click, select send to desktop create shortcut.
You can then access it at any time, even with Legacy Closed.

Thanks to Mike and Gene-Found it and added the shortcut to my desktop,
and a ? icon. Messed up my indexing and search settings in the process
of looking, finally found and downloaded
MicrosoftFixit.Search.RNP.93326127547965.1.1.Run.exe

Ran that and now everything is working again!

Pat, What are you trying to discover or do? Would printing a birthday list
help? It's called the Calendar Creator now, under Other Reports.
Otherwise, the export to .csv and import into Excel is the route I would take.

One of the things I like to include in descendant reports is a map showing the
locations of the __ surname at the present time.

I've been attaching it as an event to the earliest ancestor of that name -- or
sometimes I may use it as an illustration on the title page.

I'm wondering if anyone else does this and, if so, how you handle it.

Thanks,
Pat

Re: [LegacyUG] Picture Centre

2014-08-28 Thread Ron Taylor
The only thing I'm aware of in Picture Center is that a PDF file with a picture
in it can't be linked.  Any PDF file is considered a document and has to be
linked as such even if it only contains a picture.  This should be fixed but is
a limitation in current version.

Although it doesn't seem to be documented in the Help files, looking in
the Picture Centre at a list of images in a Source Images folder, one
sees a - in the U column against each one which is attached to a Source
and a blank if an image is not attached.

Going through each of my Census Image folders today in order to remove
some images that were unattached when the people concerned were deleted
I noticed 1 image in each of 2 folders which had a + next them!  It
turned out to be the Census entries in 1901 and 1911 for the same
family, but I cannot see anything out of the ordinary in the way I have
used these images or
the Sources to which they are attached

I've never seen this before and over the years I've used the Picture
Census scores of times to look at images in 35 Census Image folders -
hundreds of images!

Can anyone explain?

[LegacyUG] Sources from one project to another?

2014-08-28 Thread MVMcgrs

I have a variety of projects (I'm still working in 7.5). I want to move
several volunteer projects, that I'm working on for the NJ Maritime Museum,
into V8. They are not related people so I have them in separate files.

They are actually people on ships wrecked off the coast of NJ. How can I
move my source templates (I don't use source writer) from one project to
another without having to re-enter them all?

I've tried a split screen, which works, but it's very time consuming and
this is all done as a volunteer. I hope there is a faster way. Also
considered running all the names as one project but that didn't seem
appropriate.

Any suggestions?
