[LegacyUG] Private events
I am using the newest update of the Legacy program. I decided that it was time to do some major clean up work in my family file... and one of the things that I am doing is checking to see that events that are marked private are really supposed to be private. I have a tendency to grab a bunch of information when I can go to a genealogy website on either ancestry or family search, copying and pasting the information into an event named Found with the idea that I will go back and put that information into the appropriate event. The Found event is marked private because until I deal with it, I don't want the information to print in a report. If I just change the event name, I don't always remember to change the private spot. That is the reason I am going back over my work to make sure census information, etc is not marked private so that it will show. I do have some events that are marked private automatically, i.e. medical because there are certain things that family members do not want mentioned in a report or they wish them to be private until after their death. They remain medical events and I have discovered that these events that are automatically private can not be made not private. Is anyone else noticing this? And is that the way it is supposed to be? I can go through and change the event name to something else if that is the only way I can make them not private. Thanks for your help. Re: [LegacyUG] Locations: towns in multiple counties?
Consider why we worry about the county - where are records kept in case you need to do some research there. So you might be better off logging where the city center is, rather than where the person was physically located. Of course that also depends on how both counties stored their records! In any event, you should definitely include both counties in the notes. You could probably also add TWO residence events and list one address for each county . . . that way it would come up in any research no matter which county you were reviewing. I have one that straddles state lines. Springhill, Webster, Louisiana - or Springhill, Columbia County, Arkansas. To make it even worse, the Springhill Cemetery there NOW is in Louisiana. The ORIGINAL is in Arkansas. So when I have this issue I include in the NOTES section, a blurb about the two similar, but different, locations, and in parenthesis I include any postulating on my part; ex (probably Webster Parish, but not confirmed 2/17/15). I also have this issue with Shiloh Cemeteries, as there are about a dozen within fifty miles of each other, all in different towns and varying parishes in Louisiana. So I just make very detailed notes. If I have an absolute confirmation, I put that in the appropriate field, but if there is any doubt, I always add the other possible locations to my notes so I don't continue to postulate without results. RE: [LegacyUG] Fw: Latest Build Issues
It sounds like you have some hidden format control characters. If this is in a notes field, try using the Strip HTML function. I'm not sure if it will help the period/vertical bar problem, but I think it may help your spacing issues. You can also try cutting and pasting to Notepad and then back again. -Original Message- From: gregandlau...@gmail.com [mailto:gregandlau...@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, February 17, 2015 6:50 PM To: legacyusergroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: [LegacyUG] Fw: Latest Build Issues So no one has had the below issue after the latest build? [LegacyUG] Problems display LEGACY HomePage in Legacy8
I don't claim to have the knowledge that many of you have with Legacy software. I have used the deluxe version for years because it did what I wanted to do with my research. I had previously used the discontinued products: Ancestry Family Tree and PAF5. With the Legacy 8 updates, my Windows 8.1 machine is having problems accessing the Legacy HomePage from within the browser. Additionally, it periodically crashes on me, forcing me to restart the work at the beginning of the opened tree again. Fortunately, the data files - which I am maintaining in the cloud - are updating properly and accurately. I am currently using the latest version 8.0.0.467 dated 10 Feb 2015. This problem existed before I installed the latest update - so I don't think it is related to the update. I am not having an issue with using Legacy 8 on a Windows 7 Professional machine. Thanks for any helps. [LegacyUG] Lines in Events in Book Reports
In the Ancestor Book, Descendant Book, and Descendant Narrative Book reports, there are lines between events (both Modified Register and Register) that haven't always been there. I find them very distracting and wasteful of ink PLUS the lines go right through the photos on the right hand side, making for a very ugly report. I must have changed some setting inadvertently and can't find it to undo it -- I've tried all sorts of things but can't get rid of them. Surely it's something simple. :-) Thanks for any help with this! Re: [LegacyUG] Private events
Hi Gail, There are two ways you can make an Event Private. You can make just this particular instance Private by checking the tick box OR you can go into the Edit the Event Definition and make that whole Event Private. (which is what you need to do for your Found Event so you don't have to worry whether or not you've forgotten to check it private.) Once the whole Event is Private I don't think you can make one instance of it Public by unchecking the tick box. Cathy Gail Vall wrote: I am using the newest update of the Legacy program. [LegacyUG] Problem With Descendant Book Report
I tried to find an answer to this online, but couldn't. So... I entered some new data on a relative, George Wilkes Beckett, Jr. I then ran a descendant book report starting with his father, Georges Wilkes Beckett. The new data didn't show up in the report. Furthermore, I had checked the box for all generations, but only two showed up. I then ran a descendant *narrative* book report on George Wilkes Beckett, and everything showed up - all the new data, and through all five generations. I cannot figure out what is going on. Something obvious, no doubt, but I'm tearing out my hair trying to figure it out!! Re: [LegacyUG] Locations: towns in multiple counties?
Jerry, She is talking about cities that are in two counties. Like New London, Wisconsin do you use New London, Outagamie, Wisconsin or New London, Waupaca, Wisconsin. It's about 50/50 land spread between the counties. and Appleton, Wisconsin could be Appleton, Calumet, Wisconsin or Appleton, Outagamie, Wisconsin even tho' less than 4% of the city is in Calumet County (and it's the county seat for Outagamie. ) which one should you use when you may have documentation but no distinction to which county it should be. Re: [LegacyUG] Locations: towns in multiple counties?
RE: [LegacyUG] Problem With Descendant Book Report
Tom, While in the Descendent Report Options (Options tab), check to see how you have the Include Main Entries For block set up. If you have the individuals with children radio button and lit, then this might be your problem. Otherwise, try starting fresh by clicking on the reset button in the lower right corner of this window. Good luck! Thanks Bobby. I did both of those, no change. I also did check/repair twice, left Legacy, came back in, and reset to defaults. Didn't help. Agh! RE: [LegacyUG] Problem With Descendant Book Report
Hi Tom, Not the same report but similar problem a few weeks ago [Legacy 8.0.0.459 Deluxe]. I thought I was going nuts as the new events were there where I added them but only the old events were appearing in the report and not the additions. I was copying and pasting these events - only minor changes each time [year etc]. I obviously unintentionally clicked on the PRIVATE box and was then copying this setting through all the new entries. Once un-clicked, they all appeared as they should. Check that your problem doesn't have anything to do with Privacy options - either for people, events, entries, or reports.
