[LegacyUG] Citing newspapers

2015-09-19 Thread Kirstin
I'm struggling with the way citations are done for newspaper articles.
The way Legacy does it (and Elizabeth Shown Mills):

"Article Title," The (Tiny Town) Times (in italics), date published.

So I have no idea where this particular times is from so I add the city,
but if the city is one of millions like it in all 50 states, you also
need the state. I don't like to assume anything. If I don't know where a
particular newspaper is from I'm going to assume my reader doesn't
either. So why is it not cited like any other publication? Like so:

"Article Title," The Times (in italics) (City, State: date of publication).

Also, is there a newsgroup just for citing genealogy?

I can't answer your "why is it not cited..." question, but there is
nothing to stop you entering "City, State" in the field labelled
Location City. that way your citation will read

Article Title, (City, State) Newspaper Title, Publication Date etc.

Re: [LegacyUG] Adopted Children

2015-09-19 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Albert,
I can't see a response and overlooked your email.
I'd create a new relationship for her, attach the adopted children to that
relationship and adjust the wording in the Marriage Information screen to
reflect she is adopting children. To create a relationship without entering
a partner, attach one of the adoptedchildren to her by coosing add existing
mother. Then link the other adopted children to the same "relationship" or
you'll create more.

Re: [LegacyUG] Gedcoms

2015-09-19 Thread Ward Walker
Daniel,

I have custom events in my TNG site. Have you confirmed that the events did not
even make it into the Legacy export GEDCOM? When setting up the export, there
is a customize window where you can include and exclude various things. Ensure
that you have not accidentally excluded events there.

Hi

How do I create an export file that includes certain events that I created (ie:
military attestations).
When I try try to import my file to TNG my events will not migrate it seems
that only notes make the journey so to speak.

Thank you.
Daniel

[LegacyUG] Invalid Floating Point Operation

2015-09-19 Thread Loren L. Johns
I hope that the programmers will soon track down and solve this problem. It is
quite irritating when trying to export a chart in pdf format, which is the best
way to produce charts!
I like to produce 8-generation half-circle fan charts, saving (i.e.,
publishing) them in pdf format. I then can print them out on 11" x 17" paper in
color. They're quite a hit! They fill out the page horizontally, but not quite
vertically (in landscape, of course).

Any other output option (e.g., jpg) creates a much larger file ... but with
poorer resolution.
On my desktop computer, I now cannot publish my charts to pdf because of the
error message. (Does it have something to do with the page size?)
Fortunately, the same program with the same database and same settings still
can export to pdf on my laptop. Both machines are running Windows 10, which I
think is irrelevant to the issue.

Peace, Loren Johns
