[LegacyUG] v9 Build 169 issue

2017-05-11 Thread Ian Thomas
For my specific issue in v9, latest build, which is the Siblings List
displaying both siblings and children of a woman - I've been advised that it's
cosmetic (my term) and that the database itself isn't compromised. And that the
Legacy FT v9 program is being fixed

Larry, I'm not about to try what you describe, but I have a situation that
might be explained by what you found. If so, I didn't notice the wrong window
opening.

For one individual only, the Siblings list shows her 7 siblings and herself,
but also her 6 children from her marriage - all of these listed have correct
RIN.
Selecting each sibling in turn, then opening the siblings list for each, shows
no errors. It is only for the one individual that this problem exists
Checking names, I have no duplicates - everything appears normal.

In the last 36 hours, I was editing some information for this part of the
family. What I describe MAY have occurred if the right-click popup window was
for the wrong person, and I didn't notice that. I have screen capture images of
the problem (which I can't correct). My solution was to open a previous backup,
for which the problem isn't showing.

I have reported this to Millennia, but I'm not sure it has the same cause as
your observations. I'll let them consider it.

Re: [LegacyUG] Hash Tags

2017-05-11 Thread Rick Koelz
If you select "Legacy" as the "Produce File For" option in the File
Extract the Hashtag abbreviation and description will be part of the GEDCOM
file.

I plan to use hashtags as both permanent and temporary identifiers.

Re: [LegacyUG] Hash Tags

2017-05-11 Thread R G Strong Genealogy

Martha,

Hash Tags can be whatever you want them to be for as long as you want
them to be.

As for a gedcom it depends on which type of gedcom you create since they
are proprietary their gedcom tag would start with an underscore _HASHTAG
and would not be in the 5.5 standard GEDCOM. If you wanted to send it
then you would have to select a gedcom that includes it or you would
customize the gedcom and add it.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Users Classes

2017-05-11 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
Yes, I plan to do that. However, trying to remember what I watch is one of
my problems. It helps me to have a guru, that I can call on when I am in
the middle of something and have a question. Hunting through the "Help"
does not always work for me, because I do not necessarily know what words I
need to use to ask the question. I called 'Support' one time a couple of
years ago and the person told me he did not have enough time to help me get
things corrected in my program. I use the simple functions, and all comes
out OK, but it would be nice to have help to understand some of the more
complicated things. For example: What is a hash tag and why would I want
to use it?
Thanks so much for all your ideas.
Margaret

[LegacyUG] Register for Webinar Friday - New York City and State Governmental Vital Records by Jane Wilcox

2017-05-11 Thread Geoff Rasmussen
New York is a notoriously challenging state to find birth, death and
marriage records. Navigating New York City and State governmental vital
records requires a "quick sheet" to make sure you have looked in every
possible place to find the indexes and the records. Civil registration
jurisdictions need to be clearly understood and considered, plus the key
dates for laws and regulations that give context to what was actually
collected, and when. And importantly, learn what is accessible today and
how to order records. We'll also explore examples for using the records.

Join us and Jane Wilcox for the live webinar Friday, May 12, 2017 at 2pm
Eastern U.S. Register today to reserve your virtual seat. *Registration is
free but space is limited to the first 1,000 people to join that day.* Before
joining, please visit www.java.com to ensure you have the latest version of
Java which our webinar software requires. When you join, if you receive a

[LegacyUG] Hash Tags

2017-05-11 Thread Martha Graham

Good Morning Cathy,
Thank you for the explanation on where the Hash Tag data is located.
If it is 'inside' the fdb file, then they should not have disappeared.
I am curious about one other thing. I am using them as a temporary way
of marking people.
I use tagging for marking people who fit different requirements with
regard to my research.

Are the Hash Tags meant to be an alternate permanent identifier or just
temporary like I am using?

Reason I ask is whether they would be included in a gedcom and if so,
what happens to them when someone who does not use Legacy opens the
gedcom?

I hope the question makes sense.
