Re: [LegacyUG] Master Location Maps
Appreciate the information Brian. I am familiar with software testing (from focus groups, through alpha and beta testing) so am concerned. I suspect there is a lot going on 'behind the screens' following the accusation which we (users) won't hear about for at least a while yet. However, given my specific situation (transferring data into Legacy) I'm probably a 'bit' more concerned than most. Again Thanks. Re: [LegacyUG] Ancestor Book Report
Dennis, As soon as you enter Unknown you deprive yourself of the different ways Legacy has of searching for or displaying in Reports that information is unknown. See the option in Book reorts to add underlines for missing information and the multiple searches on the Search-missing information tab. For me, blanks are a far more obvious indicator than any word. "married unknown" is no better to me than "married someone." I've already explained how easy it is to change to just "married." Re: [LegacyUG] Ancestor Book Report
I abhor blanks as well so I always use "Unknown" when a person or date is unknown. Since my reports are usually sent to relatives and/or other genealogists, I advisee them to please contact me regarding any of my unknowns for which they may have better information. Also it's nice to be able to readily spot this missing data and create Legacy search lists for particular unknown items before heading out to the various repositories. To keep my Master Name index in a logical order, I have a Master Surname as (Unknown) so that a completely unknown person appears in my database as Unknown (Unknown) - first with no parentheses and surname with parentheses. It may seem awkward but it works and keeps well with lists and indices. [LegacyUG] Master Location Maps
Has anyone heard anything about a solution to the map (Bing) situation? Searching the list archives I find it is nearly three months now (most posts were between May and September, but heavily in August) since the Master Location maps in Legacy ceased to function. When the maps ceased to function I was part way through correcting 5k locations from a large GEDCOM (nearly 13k individuals) that I had imported. Thanks for any information.
