Re: [LegacyUG] Shared events

2018-07-16 Thread Cathy Pinner

Peter,

If you've added them as "just a name" nothing can be done. They can only
be found by running likely reports with the Shared people included in
the Shared Event output (see the Event Options in the Report Options)
and then searching the PDF of the report.

I don't use Shared Events much but I never enter "just a name". I enter
a real unconnected person in the database and share with them. Then you
can do all the normal things in Legacy.

For me the reason of adding people to a shared event is that they may
turn out to have some connection so you need to be able to find them and
add information about them.

What can I do with unconnected people for a shared event?  I can't
output a list of them; I can't create individual records for them.
I've checked the documentation and done Google searches for any hints
on what can be done with these folks.  Please advise.  Thanks very
much. Peter Thayer

Re: [LegacyUG] Unrelated individuals - witnesses, etc

2018-07-16 Thread Peter Matthews

Something which might possibly be of some help is to list the
individual trees in your file:

View > Trees

This shows how many separate trees are in your file and the number of
people in each. So unattached individuals show up as having only one
person in their "tree". You can print the list.

Re: [LegacyUG] Confused by source copying

2018-07-16 Thread Mary Ann Latko Groetsema
I don't know if you trying to add info to the source or the detail, but I
am in what I am calling my "do-over" phase and working to upgrade the info
in my older sources/detail with more/better information. I have found that
you can easily update the source information, but the detail information --
not so much. I have been working with Census data and doing my own
transcriptions.

While laborious, I have found this method to work the best for me to ensure
all the sources, and their detail information is updated/synchronized:
1. Create/modify the sources and details that you want to utilize and save
it to the source clipboard.
2. Identify the source and details you want to upgrade/modify by using the
source list to show you where each source is used. Print or take a screen
shot of that list.
3. Modify the existing source name in someway to ID it as being the old
source. I put an * in front of the source name. Apply this change to all
uses of the source.
4. Go back to your saved list of persons where this source is used.
Person-by-person, go into their assigned source list and delete the "*"
source you are updating.
5. Go back to their data entry screen and past the new/revised source from
your clipboard to the events, names, etc. for which there is no source or
for which the new/modified source applies.
6. Save and move to the next person.
7. Go back and confirm that all references/uses/assignments to your old
source have been removed, then purge it from your source list.

I was able to update all my family census information with my more detailed
notes/comments this way. Tedious, but it worked for me.

Select the source you want to use then click the copy to clipboard
button. The one in the bottom left that looks like two sheets of paper.

Move the where you want to place the source and click the apply
clipboard source.

Re: [LegacyUG] Confused by source copying

2018-07-16 Thread Cathy Pinner

Teresa,
Do you mean you can see the source you want in an Assigned Sources list?
If so, highlight it and use the copy button bottom left to copy it to
the Source Clipboard.

If it's a source you use often, Save it to one of the 10 Source
Clipboard slots and load it when required.

But I'm not sure I've understood whether you are wanting to use the same
Master Source or whether you want a new Master source similar to an old
one. If that's so, in the Master Source list, edit the Master Source and
when you click Save you get the option to Save the changes to everyone
currently using that Master Source OR to Save as a new Master Source.
