Re: [LegacyUG] Problem with adding siblings

2019-12-15 Thread Cathy Pinner

Anne,

Here's the link to fixing relationship problems - linking problems in
Legacy.

Note that if the person has the same RIN when viewed in different
places, you have linking problems.
If the person has different RIN then you have a duplicate person and you
need to use Tools > Manual Merge.

You'll need to find the relevant section in this comprehensive Support
article.

http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00344/14/Tips-and-How-Tos/Tips-on-Fixing-Relationship-Problems.html

And to avoid causing the problems, study these two blogs:

https://news.legacyfamilytree.com/legacy_news/2018/08/tuesdays-tip-linking-to-parents-beginner.html

https://news.legacyfamilytree.com/legacy_news/2018/08/tuesdays-tip-linking-to-a-single-parent-beginner.html

Problems are usually caused when adding parents to a child and choosing
just to add father or mother when that parent is already entered with
relationships. You must choose to add parents.
It is easier to put the parent/parents in the centre in Family View and
choose to Add child - link to existing.

This will be dependent on what more you know.

It seems that he has a mother, Olive, presumably related to his
father, but in which way - married, partner, step marriage. Do he and
her have the same surname?

Now he has two siblings, or step-siblings. Are they related to the
mother? Are they related to his father and in which way? Do did these
appear - from a will, newspaper etc?

From what you have said it seems that you do not have sufficient
information. Potentially, you could create two new marriages to two
Unknown Mother and then attached the new siblings to them, so that he
has three marriages and three children, all of which will be
step-siblibg to each other. If you then can identify that the mothers
are actually the same you can just Merge them together.

Hello

I havea  man called Robert, no father named and in will he names two
brothers Thomas and John.

I put an unknown Olive as the father and tried to add the three
brothers - in one instance John & Thomas have a half brother Robert
and when I attempt it again Robert has two half brothers.

e.g.

1. Unknown Olive (father of all three)

Children:
Thomas
John
half brother Robert

2. Unknown Olive (father of all three

Children:
Robert
half brothers Thomas & John

I do not seem able to fix this. Please what am I doing wrong?

Yours sincerely
