Re: [LegacyUG] Updating my Legacy program . . . help please

This very depends on WHAT type of genealogy you want to do. Roughly, you
could be looking at

1. A simple tree of everyone who is related to a single person, like your
family and ancestors, and their descendents.

2. An extended tree where you then grow away from the main tree by
following other family's that are related to them, like spouse's families
and their lines.

3. A tree where you follow any and every one who has the same surname or
origin, regardless of whether are related to each other, and hopefully
finding a link in the past.

It is your choice how you want to proceed with your tree. If you have built
it as version 3 then Legacy has the ability to identify each subtree in the
system and let you easily remove the unrelated people to get to a version 2
tree. Equally, using tags you can identify people in specific families and
decide to keep or remove them.

It is always your choice on how to maintain your system. I always run mine
as a version 2 and I can find, from my wife's side, links to a major
English actor, a French author and a German politician. Unfortunately my
side is much more boring, but that is life.

Chris

[LegacyUG] Updating my Legacy program . . . help please

2021-12-28 Thread Cynthia N. Russell
My interest in genealogy began when I was 17 years old and received an
English assignment to write. My wise mother, also a teacher, sent me on my
way on the elevated train to Chicago, only a 30 minute trip, to research at
the prestigious Newberry Library . . . what a beginning! Now 65 years later
I am still thoroughly enjoying knowing about my many family histories. I
was self-taught, and, now after migrating through a number of genealogy
programs I have kep up with Legacy's many moves too. But, now as I am
considering retiring I want to leave my Legacy program in 'good order' to
pass on to other family members. Hoping some members can give me simple,
easy to follow steps to tidy up.

Yes, I made up things as I went along hoping that down the road another
insight might appear . . . now I want to clean it all up, please consider
useful suggestions.

As I researched I would add things such as the following, now I am
wondering if I should just delete these items which truly do not have much
of a connection:

For instance:
Unknown Russell, perhaps a date, perhaps not, or a place, I would make M or
F, if known. I am no longer using UNKNOWN! But, would if be a good clean up
to just delete all the people listed as Unknown, or leave
a , and surname such as ", Russell". I'm inclined to just delete!
