Does this only apply to Legacy 9?
Or is it for all the previous versions too?
I am still using Legacy 8 paid version.

Re: [LegacyUG] Those aggravating messages...

2018-10-15 Thread Jenny Goldsworthy
Hello,

Great advice Gene to everyone.

I am from New Zealand and use ' xtra.co.nz'.

When the first email came through, on I think it was 10 Oct., I sensed it was
'Spam', didn't open and next morning

with more coming in knew it was spam so immediately went and moved them to my
'Spam' folder via create filter.

As a result I have had none in my inbox as all go immediately to spam and have
now been stopped by my server.

I have noticed from a quick look at the ones in the spam that many people were
actually forwarding

these emails on to everyone again by asking a question or making a statement
about the email.

Please never forward or answer a SPAM email!

To those who have done this please take time to make yourself aware of the
content and addresses of the

emails you have coming in before opening and forwarding on to other people so
as not to cause a massive

problem like this again.

Take time to check out what a 'spam email' could look like and never answer it,
if unsure leave it wait, and check.

Jen

please     Bill,   No, Ancestry sold FTM (programming code, brand name, etc) to
Software MacKiev in January of this year. They also provide support and offer
upgrade from older versions of FTM to their new version of that software.
Software MacKiev is supposedly ‘partnering’ with Ancestry to rework the Sync
system between FTM and Ancestry’s online trees. That company is also reworking
the FTM 2014 code (there has already been a version 2014.1 release) to fix many
of the memory usage problems with Ancestry’s FTM code, and are supposedly
planning a new updated version of FTM. Software MacKiev is the developer of the
Mac version of FTM.   The FTM interface has a lot of positive features – for
example the Sources tab that offers direct access to both sources and citations
– along with many negatives (for example, no way to locally change an even
sentence for one individual, only global changes to all uses of an event).
I’ve spent a number of years with TMG (1995-2002), followed by Genbox
(2002-2013), before using FTM and now looking at transferring totally to
Legacy. There are many ‘hidden’ differences between FTM and Legacy, for example
the way each creates, displays, uses, and transfers via GEDCOM married names.
Even though Genbox was ‘discontinued’ (although still available) the end of
2007, I still rate that genealogy software as ‘excellent’, well beyond TMG.
