This report is far more condensed than that two you mentioned. Individuals are numbered, and you double that number to find the father's number, and add one to find the mother. RE: [LegacyUG] Ahnentafel Report
Dick Eastman used the term Ahnentafel Format.http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jcat2/ahnentafel.html Joan From: wood...@msn.com To: legacyusergroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Ahnentafel Report Date: Mon, 18 May 2015 14:31:52 -0700 See: http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00275/0/Ahnentafel-Numbering-System.html You can include whatever you want. The example I copied and posted included marriage dates. Since I deal with mediaeval and ancient lineages, it is the most useful, having birth-death, if those are known. Yes, the numbers become immense, but it is the most concise and efficient way to list hundreds / thousands of ancestors. A variant uses the same system, either in a chart such as your pedigree chart, or in a report: Generation 1 1. person Generation 2 2. father 3. mother Generation 3 4. father's father 5. father's mother 6. mother's father 7. mother's mother etc. It is easy, if one can multiply and divide, to immediately find ancestors and descendants. It may be possible to do in Legacy 8 by limiting the report options. I can't use it yet because the bugs keep messing up the reports I need to produce all the time. (I keep trying every update). CE From: br...@legacyfamilytree.com To: legacyusergroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Ahnentafel Report Date: Mon, 18 May 2015 15:03:57 -0400 And therein lies part of the issue, you and Gene seem to have different ideas on how the report would look. Is there a genealogical society somewhere which has defined a standard' for this kind of listing/report? If there is a standard we could use that for a new report. Here are at least two differences between your example and Gene's idea as he described it: Gene mentions individual couples separated by generation numbers which your example does not do; and Gene does not mention including marriage information which you include in your layout. Have you submitted your proposal as a suggestion? Great Idea, Tessa. You should easily see which pages of your PDF you might need to print and work with - you should also have the counties, cities and individuals/surnames that way. Hope that helps (just tried it and it worked for me). Then you can look at the list or print it out - only grab surnames or grab the basic details on each person. Best of luck. I guess this is why it is a good idea to spring clean your master location list (I go through mine twice a year to catch errors) and I do make a point to spell out the city/town, county, state/province, and country. It does make things somewhat easier when you want to use your database if you think about data input and data output. There might be an easier or quicker way, but that is how I did it. Surely there is a simple way to do this, but i cannot figure it out. I have done a location report and i see that I can print it, but I have not done a very good job on inputting my locations. Some have the state first and some have the township or county first. I have tried to clean up the list but it would take years. I also tried to do a search (detailed search option), but it asks for a tag and I am not working with tags, but with locations. And I don't want each person, but only each surname. This probably isn't clear (I get that comment a lot) but what I wish to do is get a list of surnames that have any event, birth, death, marriage, whatever, in the state of Kentucky. It would be nice if it could be further delineated by county, but at least by state. Thanks. Jane S.
