Legacy's Pedigree Chart has the same numbering as the first example of
Ahnentafel on Wikipedia. The Pedigree Chart has complete dates plus places -
and marriages are included.Joan

Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahnentafel and have look at the 2

We are happy to consider suggestions for new features.

In Legacy 6.0 and later you can suggest a new feature by clicking on the link
on the Legacy Home Tab Support Section

Other users can make a suggestion here:
 http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Suggest.asp
Use the drop down list in the first box to select a category, Legacy 8.0 or
 Legacy Charting.

If you have a sample report layout of your version of the traditional
ahnentafel report include that so we can see exactly what the layout you want
 is.

far more condensed than that two you mentioned. Individuals are
numbered, and you double that number to find the father's number, and
add one to find the mother.

See:
http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00275/0/Ahnentafel-Numbering-System.html

You can include whatever you want. The example I copied and posted included
marriage dates. Since I deal with mediaeval and ancient lineages, it is the
most useful, having birth-death, if those are known. Yes, the numbers become
immense, but it is the most concise and efficient way to list hundreds /
thousands of ancestors.

A variant uses the same system, either in a chart such as your pedigree chart,
or in a report:

Generation 1
1. person

Generation 2
2. father
3. mother

Generation 3
4. father's father
5. father's mother
6. mother's father
7. mother's mother

etc.

It is easy, if one can multiply and divide, to immediately find ancestors and
descendants.

It may be possible to do in Legacy 8 by limiting the report options. I can't
use it yet because the bugs keep messing up the reports I need to produce all
the time. (I keep trying every update).

And therein lies part of the issue, you and Gene seem to have different
ideas on how the report would look. Is there a genealogical society
somewhere which has defined a standard' for this kind of
listing/report? If there is a standard we could use that for a new report.

Here are at least two differences between your example and Gene's idea
 as he described it:
Gene mentions individual couples separated by generation numbers which
your example does not do; and
Gene does not mention including marriage information which you include
 in your layout.

Have you submitted your proposal as a suggestion?

One other thought Jane - run your location report, print it as a PDF
(print it to your computer not paper!) and then use the find function
looking for Kentucky, or whatever else you may have used to signify
Kentucky. You should easily see which pages of your PDF you might need
to print and work with - you should also have the counties, cities and
 individuals/surnames that way.

Hope that helps (just tried it and it worked for me).

  individual, birth place, contains, Kentucky
  OR
  individual, death place, contains, Kentucky
  OR
  individual, event place, contains, Kentucky

click on clear list before this search and then create your list

then when you have those results go into search (from options)
and click on add results to existing list

  individual, marriage place, contains, Kentucky
  OR
  individual, burial place, contains, Kentucky

individuals with either a birth, baptism, marriage, death, burial or
event place containing Kentucky (unless you did not include Kentucky
in your location). Then you can look at the list or print it out -
only grab surnames or grab the basic details on each person. Best of
  luck.

I guess this is why it is a good idea to spring clean your master
location list (I go through mine twice a year to catch errors) and I
do make a point to spell out the city/town, county, state/province,
and country. It does make things somewhat easier when you want to use
your database if you think about data input and data output.

There might be an easier or quicker way, but that is how I did it.

want each person, but only each surname.

This probably isn't clear (I get that comment a lot) but what I wish to
do is get a list of surnames that have any event, birth, death,
marriage, whatever, in the state of Kentucky. It would be nice if it
could be further delineated by county, but at least by state.

  Thanks.

  Jane S.
