Re: [LegacyUG] Add unknown wife

Sure - you have the father and for his spouse and the mother I just
name them Unknown, Unknown (others might leave blank but I prefer to
have some information - you could add what you know about possible
birth and death timeframes). Then you add second wife (or add
marriage) and the children will show up with Unknown in ( ) in that
second marriage.

Re: [LegacyUG] Add unknown wife

2012-12-25 Thread Lucy McDonald Shore
I,ve been taking it one step further -- I give a totally unknown person as
first name Unk and family name as Unkown. That way, I can use the same
format if I don't have a first name or a last name. It has worked well for
me although the Legacy program keeps telling me I can't use an adjective as
a name ...

Re: [LegacyUG] Add unknown wife

2012-12-25 Thread Wendy Howard
Can you add an unknown wife who is the mother of children? There is a
second wife, but she is their step-mother.

Yes, you can.

With the husband and step-wife in the centre in Family View, on the
keyboard press AW (Add Wife) or click Add Wife from the menu.

This will bring up the information window for a new person who is a wife
to the husband showing. Fill in what you know (if anything).

If you know nothing except she existed, my method is to put something (a
placeholder of sorts) in the Given Name field in privacy brackets,
like this:

[[Unknown wife of ]]

When I do find out who she is, I keep that placeholder name as an aka,
because it shows the path I took to finding out who this person was -
where I discovered she existed in the first place, and where I found out
what her name was. There are other ways to do this, but this is how I
do it and it suits me.

The wives will be ordered with the most recently-added last, but you can
rearrange that if you wish - click on the Wives icon for the husband,
and use the arrows to sort as you please, or use the Sort button if
there are dates present for Legacy to do it for you.

Hope this helps. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy

Thanks to those of you who helped me with this. I did use the bracket with the
name of the husband. That way I can keep tract of her.

Much appreciated.

Personally for an unknown wife I use MNU (maiden name unknown) and FNU
(first name unknown).

LNU (last name unknown) for a man -plus FNU of course.
