get annoyed that the always extend St to Saint, when we nearly always

Re: [LegacyUG] Geo-Location Tool

2015-12-04 Thread Elizabeth Verchio
Morris, thank you for asking the question, and Brian, thank you for
giving the answer. I made the change and entered a new location in the
Events box, click the Geo Location Icon the new location is displayed
with the Country "USA" just as the default edit had been set. Yeah!
Which got me to thinking is it also possible to:
1. in the Location Short Name Field, can the default leave out the
country USA?
2. in the Location Short Name Field, can the default the 2 letter
abbreviation for the State? i.e. Alabama would be AL.
If so, how?
3. in the Location Short Name Field, can the default be City, ST
(leaving out the county name)? i.e Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama, USA
in the Long Name Field would be Birmingham, AL in the short name.
As Morris pointed out, it sure would save a lot of editing.

Thank you kindly,
Elizabeth Crauswell Verchio

If these GeoCountrycodes.txt and GeoCountyCodes.txt files are used by

Expand/Contract Location Parts?

Can files used for the Expand/Contract process be modified?

Charles,
A couple of simple things to do to make sure that Legacy can see the Geo
Location Database. Close Legacy, reboot your computer, then start Legacy back
up. If that doesn't work reinstall the current update from here.

The first thing is to make sure it actually installed. It installs into a
hidden folder so you have to have hidden folders and files turned on in Windows
to see it.

It is in C:\Program Data\Legacy Family Tree\GeoDB (Program DATA not Files.
This is a folder that is normally hidden)

Re: [LegacyUG] Geo-location db in v8

2013-12-03 Thread John B. Lisle
Cheryl,

The option to have partial GeoDBs was eliminated for L8.

Just go to Tools/Location Database and download and install it again.
The file is about the size of the Installer file for the program, so,
if you have slow Internet, plan ahead... ;-)

L8 does not remember where you installed it before.

I recommend just letting it install in the default location.

Hmmm. Thanks, Sherry.

I've /never/ seen a list via my free v or the ones at the
FHC that had more than 8 countries listed; all of those
listed are protectorates of sorts of the US (I'm a bit
unsure about Papua).

I'm getting to it : TOOLS/Geo Location Database. Yes, the
format looks like the county-verifier screen.

???

Sherry/Support wrote:
The Geo Location Database in v8 is the same as in v7.5, just formatted
a little differently so the download's not as large.

Geo contains locations worldwide. You're not confusing it with the USA
 County Verifier, are you??

Re: [LegacyUG] Geo-location db in v8

2013-12-03 Thread Brian/Support
The full GeoDB for Legacy has always included foreign locations, those
who installed from the Legacy CD got that full file. In version 7 and
earlier however users who did not have the CD copy could download only
part of the GeoDb, there were 6 regional files, from our website to
create their own GeoDB. If your installation only has American location
it must be one of those partial installations.

In Legacy 8 the full GeoDb file has been reduced in size for download so
the full worldwide list of locations is now included in all downloads.

Very good. I found them. I downloaded them all and attempted to install

I installed the next one, say Europe, and it told me all the others

am I limited to one at a time?

Would I better off deleting this install and installing from the CD?
