Re: [LegacyUG] Geo-Location Tool
Morris, thank you for asking the question, and Brian, thank you for giving the answer. I made the change and entered a new location in the Events box, click the Geo Location Icon the new location is displayed with the Country "USA" just as the default edit had been set. Yeah! Which got me to thinking is it also possible to: 1. in the Location Short Name Field, can the default leave out the country USA? 2. in the Location Short Name Field, can the default the 2 letter abbreviation for the State? i.e. Alabama would be AL. If so, how? 3. in the Location Short Name Field, can the default be City, ST (leaving out the county name)? i.e Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama, USA in the Long Name Field would be Birmingham, AL in the short name. As Morris pointed out, it sure would save a lot of editing. If these GeoCountrycodes.txt and GeoCountyCodes.txt files are used by the Geo Location database, then which files are used for the Expand/Contract Location Parts? Cheryl, The option to have partial GeoDBs was eliminated for L8. Just go to Tools/Location Database and download and install it again. The file is about the size of the Installer file for the program, so, if you have slow Internet, plan ahead... ;-) L8 does not remember where you installed it before. Re: [LegacyUG] Geo-location db in v8
The full GeoDB for Legacy has always included foreign locations, those who installed from the Legacy CD got that full file. In version 7 and earlier however users who did not have the CD copy could download only part of the GeoDb, there were 6 regional files, from our website to create their own GeoDB. If your installation only has American location it must be one of those partial installations. In Legacy 8 the full GeoDb file has been reduced in size for download so the full worldwide list of locations is now included in all downloads. I added 3D a while ago and I can't remember if I've used it at all since so maybe that messed something up? 3D is working the same way as 2D (range doesn't match what the picture on the screen). [LegacyUG] Geo Location Database
I downloaded and installed the full version of Legacy. The CD was mailed. I note in the instructions about installing the Geo Location Database. Since I don't recall that in the downloaded install, how can I determine if it was installed or I need to reinstall from the CD? -- *Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance.* Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergr...@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp

Hi Cheryl, Use the Options from the menu bar. Select Customize then use the Other tab. Down in the lower left, select 'Geo Location Database'. I do believe that will send you on your way if you follow the instructions on the screen. Re: [LegacyUG] Geo Location Database
Very good. I found them. I downloaded them all and attempted to install several. It would install one, say US, and tell me the others were missing. I installed the next one, say Europe, and it told me all the others including US were missing. Space is not an issue. Can I install several or am I limited to one at a time? Would I better off deleting this install and installing from the CD? On Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 12:45 PM, Tim Rosenlof spa...@xmission.com wrote: Hi Cheryl, Use the Options from the menu bar. Thanks. I just uninstalled and reinstalled using the CD. That worked fine. I couldn't install both US and Europe from the download, something with the US file I think.
