Re: [LegacyUG] Hints - FindMyPast - "Invalid cookie header"

2021-10-19 Thread Phil Williams

Hi Ian,

So it's not down to any particular browser. Cathy's suggestion of
selectively clearing FMP cookies worked for me.

Cheers,

Phil.

Hi,

I am also getting this error, but only with the Firefox browser. Popping the
link into Google Chrome opens the Hints page ok.

I have tried clearing the cache and disabling all add-ons to Firefox but
nothing helps. I am using the latest versions of both Legacy and Firefox
(78.15.0esr).

So, may I ask  I. L. Thomas, what browser are you using? Are any other users
having this problem? Has anyone found a solution?

Cheers,

Phil.

I'd clear your browser cache to see if that removes the error you're
getting if that's not the issue.

There is a known problem with MyHeritage hints. They're currently not
working at all.

FamilySearch hints only work if you have the FamilySearch ID entered
for the person concerned. FS hints to the FS tree and passes on those
hints.

I find FMP hints helpful. I don't take much notice of others.
The search isn't done after you click the orange ball but before. The
Hints window opens and you click the pane to access the hint results
in your browser.

If you want to set up a search from Legacy use Search > Internet
Search for the relevant website. These cover far more than the 4
hinting sites, one of which is only useful for US researchers.

The only "orange dot" Hints that I have been getting for 6 to 15
months  (v9, always with latest updates of course) have led me to a
separate Hints Results window on which the coloured pane needs to be
clicked to allow the default browser to Search. The only genealogy
search is FindMyPast, despite having 3 of the 4 options enabled.

Lately (weeks), my browser gives a java string that ends with

Invalid cookie header

I don't want to have to find the browser setting to fix that. I
thought that type of error was 5 or more years old, long forgotten.

What is recommended?

I would really like some advice from Legacy developers/ owners - do
they intend to FIX the Hints functionality? Or would it be better to
just REMOVE it from the interface and we put up with other means of
trying to match individuals with semi-public genealogy databases?

The solution was to clear findmypast cookies. Clearing just the cache
didn't seem to work which I guess is expected since the error mentions
cookies.
If you don't know how to selectively delete particular cookies in
Firefox you'll need to clear them all and sign in again to every site
- so I trust you use a Password Manager.
