Re: [LegacyUG] Latest Update Issue

2020-10-28 Thread Ian Thomas
Cathy – thanks, I have installed v368 now. I keep all prior versions of the
installable – just in case I need to revert.

Possibly unavailability of printer – Windows does switch the printer to last
used (I print as PDF from various docs, including web pages). But when my WiFi
mono laser is offline, it notifies me and Windows caches the print stream. But
I don’t know what Legacy’s start-up check for a printer is about (seems a silly
thing to do).
In any case, only one of those freeze occasions involved the printer instance
(I killed each with Task Manager, and looked).

I’ll see what happens. As I hinted, Legacy FT has not given me freeze or even
slowness with my moderate sized database (few iamges, etc).

Ian,
For your information - the current release of Legacy is 9.0.0.368

There were a couple of issues with builds 361 and 362 but these have been fixed
in 368.

Legacy checks for a printer when Legacy starts. There can be problems in
Windows 10 if you are allowing Windows 10 to control the default printer as it
switches to the last printer used. If that isn't available when you start
Legacy, you can have problems. There is a setting in the Win 10 settings that
allows you to uncheck that option.

This has happened twice in the last couple of days – I closed Legacy
with Windows 10 Task Manager. This time, I noticed that there was a
sub-entry in Task Manager indicating a problem with a printer driver.
I was not trying to print anything from Legacy at the time. That was
not so in the previous incident, a day or two ago.

In both cases, I could not start Legacy again after killing the
instances with Task Manager – I had to restart Windows.

Windows 10 v 2020 – I am not using the latest “Feature Update, 20H2”

I just updated Legacy to the latest version and now when I try to
click on "Name List" it locks up Legacy and I have to shut down my PC
in order to clear it. I have not been able to do anything else
because of this issue. What do I do now?

Thanks Margaret

Thanks Cathy,
It works perfectly this a.m. and even seems much faster. I did not know
about task manager - I sure wish I was more computer literate, but this old
brain does not work as good as it used to.

Re: [LegacyUG] Latest Update Issue

2020-10-21 Thread Cathy Pinner

Margaret,

Try Restarting your computer. That's a Restart, not a shutdown and later
start unless you've turned off Fast Start.

This is not the result of the update as it's not being discussed and
there's no bug report on it.

When Legacy freezes, you don't have to shut down your computer, you just
shut down Legacy by using End Task in Windows Task Manager. In Windows
10, right click on the task bar and choose Task Manager from the right
click menu. Then highlight Legacy in the list and click End Task.

If restarting your computer doesn't clear it, I suggest you contact Support.
