Re: [LegacyUG] Sources not available to upload to FamilySearch

2016-05-04 Thread Anne Lo Forte Willson
Those Scandinavian names are simply difficult to find all versions of them
existing within Family Tree. I diligently search FamilySearch Family Tree for
individuals I research and when I cannot find them on Family Tree, I add them.
Lo, and behold, once I've added several people in the family, and THEN use
Legacy's FamilySearch sync mode, I find the whole family showing up with a
different surname, usually because someone has attached the farm name to the
surname. Legacy has been so helpful in finding these duplicates, but much of
the time even with Legacy they only show up after I've entered a number of
individuals in the family.

2016-04-27 Thread Pauline B. Cramer
I also have not been happy with how Family Search sources don't match
with other LDS systems or other sources. During the 2002 - 2007 time
period I spent countless hours researching my Finnish family, ordering
micro fiche from Salt Lake City, reading hand-written records in birth,
baptism, confirmation, marriage, and farm records, farm names and
numbers, etc. and recording sources with LDS microfilm numbers, and
noting variations in spelling of names; also searching the The
Genealogical Society of Finland database. Now, with the emphasis on
standardization, it appears that new duplicates are being created, and
I've seen at least one whole family group duplicated due to a variation
in the spelling of the name of the father. Very discouraging.

Re: [LegacyUG] Sources not available to upload to FamilySearch

2016-04-25 Thread Anne Lo Forte Willson
FamilySearch doesn't allow sources attached to any 'Other Events'. You can
only tag sources to name, gender, birth, christening, death and burial.
Although you can add sources and NOT tag them to anything.

Have you looked at how Legacy sources show up on FamilySearch Family Tree?
I've not been very happy with how sources don't match with other system sources
when either uploading or downloading. It makes for duplication, but yep.
Creating sources in both my Legacy file and in FamilySearch Family Tree is the
only way that makes sense for me right now.

Perhaps a bigger problem is downloading sources.

Legacy seems to handle births and deaths OK, but does not seem to recognise
marriage sources from FamilySearch Family Tree.

[LegacyUG] Sources not available to upload to FamilySearch

2016-04-22 Thread Lineagekeeper
Why aren't all sources for a person available to upload to FamilySearch
Tree? Other programs such as RootsMagic show them and allow them to be
uploaded using the same gedcom file.

Legacy seems to only recognize sources for Birth, Marriages and Deaths
as being valid sources to upload to FamilySearch Tree. In my situation,
less that 40% of my sources for an individual are available to upload
via the FamilySearch Tool.
