FOSDEM 2023

2022-11-29 Thread Italo Vignoli
I have started working at logistics of FOSDEM 2023 (February 4/5, 2023),
and I might need your help.

If you are:

1. Presenting at FOSDEM, at LibreOffice Technology or another DevRoom,
or at FOSDEM Main Track (provided the topic is related to LibreOffice
Technology)

2. Staffing the booth (which should be confirmed soon), helping with the
LibreOffice Technology DevRoom, being in one of the internal meetings
(February 6/7, 2023), attending the OFE (Open Forum Europe) pre-FOSDEM
meeting (February 3, 2023), or participating to the FOSDEM LibreOffice
HackFest (February 6/7, 2023)

3. Sponsored by a LibreOffice ecosystem company, which is going to cover
your expenses (in this case, a single person should co-ordinate for the
entire company)

Please let me know the dates of your staying as soon as possible, by
replying only to me (DO NOT HIT REPLY ALL), preferably by December 10,
and not later than December 20. After December 20, I can't ensure the
availability of the hotel room at Bedford Hotel, and I won't manage
booking at other hotels.

Thanks, Italo

FOSDEM

2022-02-04 Thread Italo Vignoli
This weekend is the FOSDEM weekend, and as usual the LibreOffice project
will be one of the leading forces behind the virtual event (as in 2021).

Community members will present their talks at the LibreOffice Technology
devroom, on Saturday from 1:30PM to 6PM, and on Sunday from 10AM to 6PM:
https://fosdem.org/2022/schedule/track/libreoffice_technology/. Details
of each presentation - links to streaming and chat rooms - by clicking
on the title of the talk.

We will also have a stand: https://stands.fosdem.org/stands/libreoffice/.

Tomorrow I will open the main Community track at 10AM with the talk:
"Making a community-managed FOSS project sustainable in the medium- to
long-term". Although you may have already listened to the presentation,
you are all invited:
https://fosdem.org/2022/schedule/event/community_sustainable/.

I will also speak at the Legal and Policy Issues devroom tomorrow at
2:30PM about: "Why the pandemic could help FOSS, but was a win for
proprietary software".

The schedule for the different tracks is here:
https://fosdem.org/2022/schedule/tracks/.

Please let me know if I forgot something (maybe, a talk from someone I
don't know but is a member of the LibreOffice community).

See you at FOSDEM !!!

[Libreoffice-qa] FOSDEM 2022: LibreOffice Technology DevRoom CfP

2021-12-02 Thread Italo Vignoli

LibreOffice Technology DevRoom Call for Papers

FOSDEM 2022 will be a virtual event, taking place online on Saturday,
February 5, and Sunday, February 6. The LibreOffice DevRoom is scheduled
for Sunday, February 6, from 9AM to 7PM (times to be confirmed). If we
will get more interesting talk proposals than the maximum number we can
fit in one day, we will have the opportunity to extend the DevRoom to
Saturday, February 5, in the afternoon.

NEW RULES FOR 2022

- The reference time will be Brussels local time (CET).
- Talks will be pre-recorded in advance, and streamed during the event
- Q/A session will be live
- A facility will be provided for people watching to chat between themselves
- A facility will be provided for people watching to submit questions

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER

December 26: Submission deadline
December 28: Announcement of selected talks
December 31: Publication of DevRoom final schedule
January 16: Availability of pre-recordings for review
January 23: Deadline for upload of presentations

CALL FOR PAPERS

We are inviting proposals for talks about LibreOffice Technology,
including ODF standard document format, on topics such as code,
localization, QA, UX, documentation, tools, extensions, migrations and
general advocacy. Please keep in mind that product pitches are not
allowed at FOSDEM.

The length of talks is limited to a maximum of 25 minutes, as we would
like to have some minutes for questions after each presentation, and to
fit as many presenters as possible in the schedule. Exceptions must be
explicitly requested and justified. You may be assigned LESS time than
you have requested.

IMPORTANT INFORMATIONS

- Presentations have to be pre-recorded and tested for streaming before
the event.
- Once your talk is pre-recorded, and approved by a reviewer in term of
quality for streaming, it will have to be uploaded by January 23, to be
prepared and ready for broadcast (the deadline cannot be moved further).
- During the stream of talks, speakers must be available online for the
Q/A session.

TALK SUBMISSIONS

All talk submissions have to be made in the Pentabarf event planning
tool: https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM22.

While filing the proposal, please provide the title of your talk, a
short abstract (one or two paragraphs), some information about yourself
(name, bio and photo, but please do remember that your profile might be
already stored in Pentabarf).

To submit your talk, click on “Create Event” and select the “LibreOffice
Technology” DevRoom as the “Track”. Otherwise, your talk will not be
even considered for any devroom at all.

If you already have a Pentabarf account from a previous year, even if
your talk was not accepted, please reuse it. Create an account if, and
only if, you don’t have one from a previous year. If you have any issues
with Pentabarf, please get in touch with the DevRoom manager.

Re: FOSDEM 2021 Video Archives?

2021-02-13 Thread Hossein Noorikhah
Hi,
Please look at this message from FOSDEM website:

Videos on video.fosdem.org
2021-02-11

All talks have been recorded and they will be made available on
video.fosdem.org/2021 as soon as the presenter reviews their talk.

For FOSDEM 2021, we make a mix of the original recording submitted by
the presenter and the Q happening in the main room. To make sure
that the result is up to our quality standards, we request that the
original presenter reviews the video so the result contains no errors
or mistakes. This can take a while.

We expect that it will take some days to some weeks for all videos to
become available at video.fosdem.org/2021.

See our FAQ and video.fosdem.org/2021 for more information.

Additionally, we have a lightning talk slot for our dev room, which
you can fill with last-minute submissions about the cool stuff you're
hacking on.

I invite your submission of interesting 5 minutes talks by January
30th (Saturday in one week), just mail me on **this address**.

No late submissions please, and also please be prepared to hand me a
pre-recorded video of your demo (we'll deal with the logistics then
among the smaller group of lightning talkers).

Please do spread the word! If you think someone worked on something
interesting, but didn't manage to submit a talk in time (or felt it
wouldn't fill 30 mins) - please tell me, and/or encourage her or him
to speak!

Cheers,

-- Thorsten

Call for Papers ODE DevRoom at FOSDEM

2018-12-14 Thread Italo Vignoli
FOSDEM is one of the largest gatherings of Free Software contributors in
the world and takes place each year in Brussels (Belgium) at the ULB
Campus Solbosch. In 2019, it will be held on Saturday February 2, and
Sunday February 3.

The Open Document Editors DevRoom is scheduled for Saturday, February 2
(from 10:30AM to 7:00PM, room UB2.147).

We are inviting proposals for talks about Open Document Editors or the
ODF standard document format, on topics such as code, localization, QA,
UX, tools, extensions and adoption-related cases. Please keep in mind
that product pitches are not allowed at FOSDEM.

The length of talks should be limited to a maximum of 25 minutes, as we
would like to have questions after each presentation, and to fit as many
presenters as possible in the schedule. Exceptions must be explicitly
requested and justified. You may be assigned LESS time than you request.

All submissions have to be made in the Pentabarf event planning tool:
https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM19.

While filing your proposal, please provide the title of your talk, a
short abstract (one or two paragraphs), some information about yourself
(name, bio and photo, but please do remember that your profile might be
already stored in Pentabarf).

To submit your talk, click on “Create Event”, then make sure to select
the “Open Document Editors” devroom as the “Track”. Otherwise, your talk
will not be even considered for any devroom at all.

If you already have a Pentabarf account from a previous year, even if
your talk was not accepted, please reuse it. Create an account if, and
only if, you don’t have one from a previous year. If you have any issues
with Pentabarf, please contact ode-devroom-mana...@fosdem.org.

The deadline is Monday, December 24, 2018. Accepted speakers will be
notified by Thursday, December 27, 2018. The schedule will be published
on Monday, December 31, 2018.

Recording Permission

The talks in the Open Document Editors DevRoom will be recorded (audio
and video).

In the “Submission notes” field, please indicate that you agree to have
your presentation recorded and published under the same license as all
FOSDEM content (CC-BY). For example: “If my speech is accepted for
FOSDEM, I hereby agree to be recorded and to have recordings - including
slides and other presentation related documents - published under the
Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) 4.0 International License.

I have created a wiki page with FOSDEM related information, which is
very important especially for the social dinner on Saturday (as we have

Please forward the wiki page address to the relevant people, if they are

Draft of FOSDEM DevRoom Call for Papers

2017-10-26 Thread Italo Vignoli

We are now inviting proposals for talks about Open Document Editors or
the ODF standard document format, on topics such as code, localization,
QA, UX, tools, extensions and adoption related cases. This is a unique
opportunity to show new ideas and developments to a wide technical
audience. Please do keep in mind, though, that product pitches are not
allowed at FOSDEM.

Length of talks should be limited to a maximum of 30 minutes, as we

[libo-marketing-priv] IMPORTANT Dinner @ FOSDEM

2016-01-18 Thread Italo Vignoli
RESENDING (if you have already answered, please ignore)

We will organize a TDF dinner at FOSDEM on Saturday night (January 30),
most probably at the Kasbah (http://www.lakasbahresto.com, we have been
there in 2014 and 2015). In order to book in advance, as we will be a
rather sizeable group, I need to know who will be coming ASAP.

Please reply to me (not to the list, please), or write a message to
it...@libreoffice.org, to confirm your presence. If you are coming with
other people from the same group, a single email with all the names is
all I need.

I will finalize the list at the end of next week (Friday, January 22).

FOSDEM Call for Papers

2015-11-03 Thread Italo Vignoli
FOSDEM 16 will be held at the ULB Campus Solbosch on Saturday, January
30, and Sunday, January 31, 2016.

Open document editors are coming again to FOSDEM with a shared devroom
which gives every project in this area a chance to present ODF related
developments and innovations. The devroom is jointly organized by Apache
OpenOffice and LibreOffice.

We invite submission of talks for the Open Document Editors devroom, to
be held on Saturday, January 30, from 10:30AM to 6;30PM.

Length of talks should be limited to 20 minutes, as we would like to
have questions after each presentation, and to fit as many presenters as
possible in the schedule. Exceptions must be explicitly requested and
justified.

Technical talks (code, extensions, localization, QA, tools and adoption
related cases) about open document editors or the ODF document format
are welcome.

Submissions must be done by the speakers using the Pentabarf system:
https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM16/

While filing your proposal, please provide the title of your talk, a
short abstract (one or two paragraphs), some information about yourself
(name, bio and photo, but please do remember that your profile might be
already stored at Pentabarf) and specify what topic (Apache OpenOffice,
LibreOffice, other ODF editors, ODF in general...) your talk is about.

You do not need to create a new account if you already have one. If the
password has been lost, you can easily recover it.

Presenting at FOSDEM implies giving permission to be recorded. The
recordings will be published under the CC-BY license.

The deadline is Monday, December 7, 2015. Accepted speakers will be
notified by December 15, 2015.

You can send any questions to the devroom mailing list:

FOSDEM Call for Paper

2014-11-07 Thread Italo Vignoli
FOSDEM 15 will be held at the ULB Campus Solbosch on Saturday, January
31, and Sunday, February 1st, 2015.

Open document editors are coming again to FOSDEM with a shared devroom
which gives every project in this area a chance to present ODF related
developments and innovations. The devroom is jointly organized by Apache
OpenOffice and LibreOffice.

We invite submission of talks for the Open Document Editors devroom, to
be held on Saturday, January 31, from 10AM to 6PM.

Submissions must be done by the speakers using the Pentabarf system:
https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM15

FOSDEM

2014-01-05 Thread Italo Vignoli
In 2014, FOSDEM will provide audio/video recording for all devrooms.
Organizers, though, need some help in each devroom to attend/check the
equipment. I will act as the main contact point, but I need some help
during the day for the task.

If you are going to attend FOSDEM and to be present for most of the time
in the Open Document Editors devroom (our devroom!) on Saturday 1
February, please volunteer for helping me with audio/video recording,
otherwise our devroom talks won't be recorded and made available online
(as one person is not enough).

No previous experience with audio/video is necessary. I will take a
short training during FOSDEM opening session, and I will need a backup
for just a few hours.

Please reply to this message if you think that you can help me.

Thanks, Italo

FOSDEM travel refunds

2013-02-05 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hello,

earlier this year, the board has approved a budget for FOSDEM travel
refunds.

If you have attended FOSDEM, and want to get reimbursed, please send the
receipts to treasu...@documentfoundation.org (do NOT reply to this
list!), alongside the required form.

Hotel costs and transportation costs can be refunded, while other
expenses like food can usually not be refunded. Exceptions can be
granted only in rare occasions on a case-by-case basis.

The instructions as well as the required forms are available in our wiki
at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Refunding, section
Refunding via SPI.

While it looks rather formal, please don't be shy. ;-) TDF is happy to
support its volunteers, and FOSDEM is considered an important event, so
you are welcome to apply for refunding.

If you have questions, feel free to poke the treasurer alias.

[Libreoffice-qa] requesting input for preparing FOSDEM QA-presentation

2013-01-30 Thread Cor Nouws

Hi guys 'n girls,

Next Sunday at FOSDEM I'll be giving the beginners talk to successful
participating in LibreOffice QA - or something similar.

As will be noticed, I'm mostly absent here (due to other obligations),
so it may well be that I've missed important developments, that I should
know when having the talk.
Of course I'll try to look over meeting-reports, will look at the wiki
if there's any new, know there's an improved BSA and have seen something
about a policy around NEEDINFO-bugs...

But then still... is there something that you think I should not miss,
please let me know!

Thanks a lot,
Cor

[Libreoffice-qa] Volunteer for QA talk at FOSDEM needed

2013-01-07 Thread Markus Mohrhard
Hey guys,

the QA talk at FOSDEm still needs a volunteer. It would be great if
one of you would be able to give this presentation. It will be on
Sunday morning in the Libreoffice dev-room.

Please consult https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Marketing/Events/Fosdem2013
for more information. The talk is also listed there without a speaker
for now and we have to add the schedule to the FOSDEM system soon. It
is one of the coolest conference to present other people the great
work the QA team is doing and how much fun it is to participate.

FOSDEM 2013

2012-09-08 Thread Italo Vignoli
I am in the process of filing the proposal for the LibreOffice DevRoom @
FOSDEM 2013 (first weekend of February). If possible, I would use the
format adopted in 2011 and 2012, but I have not been involved in that
process. Is anyone able to send me the message sent to FOSDEM last year?
Otherwise I will try to do it on my own.

I will file the request during the next couple of weeks (deadline is
October 1st), so there is still plenty of time.

Thanks, Italo

Re: [Libreoffice-qa] preparing QA talk for FOSDEM

2012-01-31 Thread Yifan Jiang
Hi Nino,

Thanks for the thoughts about quality. For those who use Libreoffice quite
frequently, practical general usage of software is pretty valuable to find
issues thus improve quality, even not that surprisingly, it some time reveals
bugs we never found in testing lab :)

I believe the regression testing we are doing quite fits what you care about.

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests

Especially for the mentioned Litmus. It is also a nice place to start to take
part in monitoring bug-free usage:

- Improve cases to share your opinion of daily usage, by improving
existing tests, adding new cases or translating the cases to your own
native language version.

- Run test cases for each release in beta and rc place, mark it as
pass/fail, accordingly report bugs.

- And I believe some of the high priority test cases could be proper
reference when you want to try daily/master build before any
announcement.

Do not hesitate to let us know when you have troubles to handle anything.
Thank you!

Best wishes,
Yifan

No hard facts from my side, only feelings, impressions, concerns. I'm using

Re: [Libreoffice-qa] preparing QA talk for FOSDEM

2012-01-29 Thread Yifan Jiang
Hi Cor,

This is a great news, thanks for sharing :)

As far as I concern, Regression is our routine testing for each release, which
is pretty important to make sure the legacy important functions of Libreoffice
does not regress in a new release.

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests

For full regression test, would you like to give a view to Litmus as well?

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Litmus

And currently we encourage people to:

1. Run tests

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Litmus/Litmus_User_Guide#Run_Tests

2. Update regression test cases

- Add new test cases

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Litmus/Litmus_User_Guide#Populate_New_Test_Cases
- Translate exisiting test cases into different version

Best wishes,
Yifan

main challenges of LibreOffice as it seems to decrease more and more - and
software acceptance to a good deal depends on quality (especially in corporate
environments).

So anything that /really/ raises quality is good ;-)

My own ideas go into the direction of monitoring bug-free usage, e.g. by
logging main user actions (module used, opening/closing files, menu path,
toolbar icon klicks and so on) into a simple text file. But I really don't
know if this is a good subject to talk about at FOSDEM.

[Libreoffice] For developers to be: how to prepare to take the best from this year's FOSDEM

Hello, good people,

I wrote a short blog about how to make the best of this year's FOSDEM if
you are coming. Eilidh McAdam of libvisio fame will be there and we are
ready to make our possible to have you started there and then in
developing LibreOffice import filters. If you just lurk at this list and
are coming to FOSDEM, please read

Hi guys,

So - JFYI - every submitted talk was accepted and packed (somehow) into
the eight hours. That means some of them are quite short, and we'll
really need to get moving in the room.

I append the suggested schedule for some final review before I start
typing it into the web interface at some length ;-)

If you've done something cool, but would only want five minutes to talk
about it, that's fine too: we can have a session putting together a
number of smaller more focused talks. Perhaps you want to persuade
people that it is in fact possible to get code into LibreOffice by
show-casing your easy-hack; whatever - please submit a proposal :-)

You can do that in the wiki, just copy the blank session template there
and fill it out for yourself (as Fridrich has done):

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Marketing/Events/Fosdem2012

And the TSC will decide on the program closer to the time. I suspect
we'll try to have a team meal there too one evening (if we can find a
big enough room); we did last year, and in general - it should be great
fun: celebrating the (immanent) release of 3.5.0 at that date I hope.

Hope to see you there,

Nice :-) looks really interesting. However - my feeling is that Firefox

perspective: I'd love people to set this up and get it going, but before
that, I'd like to get a Javascript flow to filter the bugs we get filed,

[Libreoffice] FOSDEM feedback, re: Improved bug filing form / flow

2011-02-13 Thread Dirk Haun
I attended the Easy hacks to get involved with[1] session at FOSDEM.
The item Improved bug filing form / flow[2] from the wiki page that
Michael mentioned reminded me of similar issues that the Mozilla guys
apparently had, as mentioned in their presentation[3] on Saturday.

Effectively, SUMO as they call it, is a support platform that
provides a customized workflow guiding users who are looking for a
solution to a problem. It will lead them to knowledge base articles or
lets them post a question (in the process bringing up similar
questions that have been asked before) or takes them to a live chat.
Filing a bug would be the last resort.

This is what's running on http://support.mozilla.com/ and lets them
handle (IIRC) 11 million support issues per month.

The good: It's all open source[4]. The bad: It's not productized
yet, i.e. it's currently tailor-made for Mozilla's use case. But they
plan to roll it out as a separate product for others to use. Wait a
few months was the answer we got.

So, I guess what I'm suggesting is that instead of reinventing the
wheel, someone who's interested in picking up that task may want to
look into this existing system. Check what it does, collect the
requirements that LibreOffice has and possibly cooperate with the
Mozilla folks.

bye, Dirk

Using git rebase -i. See its manpage, you can reorder the commits so
that the middle one will be the first, then 'git push origin
HEAD~2:master' will push just that one for you. It even has a -n flag if
you want to double-check before you do anything. If it gets rejected,
use the usual 'git pull -r'.

LibreOffice has its own DevRoom at this years' FOSDEM in Brussels. Our
Call for Papers is still open. :-)

Do you want to share your experience in starting to hack the code, or

changes you have done or those that you prepare, or do you want to share

We really like you to share in the way that fits you best, be it 5, 10

It might well be that we'll have to choose between the various

Wow - it's always the right time to apply for a FOSDEM paper :-) just
whack your name in the wiki, and encourage your friends to come.

Seriously - I would love to see -anyone- that has got any code at all
into LibreOffice speaking in our track there: if only about your
impressions of the code-base, and to give feedback on the community: we
can arrange arbitrarily small speaking slots: 5 minutes, 15minutes etc.
[ though I'd recommend longer ].

People that have a live build, and are working towards a goal of a
feature / fix / whatever would be interesting too; just getting to know
each other and some introductions are benficial I think [ some people
simply won't know who you are until you speak, sadly ].

FOSDEM (FWIW) is an outstanding conference for Free Software projects
to attend, and we should be adding suggested talks to the wiki left
right :-)

Incidentally; the wiki page is here:
