@Regina:

I wonder if using text:page-adjust="-1" is also a valid solution?

Something like:

In Writer user can double click on page number field to set the adjust value.
Although [OFFICE-3923] is the right way but that requires ODF1.3.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 117754] New: Difficulty in navigating document with large / high-resolution 'linked' images

2018-05-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117754

Bug ID: 117754
Summary: Difficulty in navigating document with large /
high-resolution 'linked' images
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.4.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: mohith.ma...@skanray.com

This is not a bug but a performance improvement request that could help a lot.

I am authoring a users' manual for our product which includes lots of images
(both vectors and 300dpi bitmaps). To keep the file size under check and to
reduce the file saving / loading time all those images are inserted as 'linked'
images with the source images kept in the same folder. While navigating the
document using the scroll bar or mouse wheel it gets stuck at those pages where
the images are present while Writer loads them. Its also not uncommon to see
the image link / 'Read Error' in the place holder alternating in the
place-holder area while the image loads. Even when loaded, sometime the page
needs to be zoomed in / out to get the image visible.

I was wondering if it is possible to cache a low resolution version of the
image so that navigational performance is improved. I believe it is Adobe -
InDesign where you have an option to display a very ugly low resolution version
of the document while to make it. Then once your done you could turn it off or
even if you don't the PDF or prints you take from the document will contain the
original resolution of the images.

Version: 6.0.4.2 (x64)
Build ID: 9b0d9b32d5dcda91d2f1a96dc04c645c450872bf
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 6.3; UI render: default;

Same behaviour in LibreOffice 6.0.4.2 Impress.
I can not change the effect property Direction to multiple effects at once.
When you select a lot of slides at once and create a Custom Animation with the
Effect "Wipe", you can change START for all, but you can not change the
property Direction.

Then you have to select one by one the slides to change its direction.

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34121

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

Bug 50774 - stripped4.doc: roundtripped by MS Word 2003

> commit7201d157a2ff2f0a8b6bb8fa57e31871187cbc81 (patch)
> tdf#76817 ooxmlimport: connect Heading to existing numbers
I reverted this patch today.

But it is worth noting that .doc format looks the same way in LO. That suggests
that this bug is an odd-ball example. Since MS and LO internally have very
different numbering implementation's, it might not be possible to emulate this
one.

So, no - I'm not really interested in spending more time in this minefield :-)

Reverted the commit from comment 46 and re-opened the bug, because an example
document from bug 50774 is made worse by that commit. I'm not surprised that a
regression was found - almost impossible to make changes in this area without
doing so.

Reverting does two things.
-most importantly, it allows me to walk away from this without causing harm. I
hate causing regressions, and this patch has not yet hit a released version of
LibreOffice.
-it gives a chance for the compatibility tools to find how many documents were
fixed by the patch, and now are broken again. It is easily possible that more
are fixed than broken - and so this can be revisited in 6.2.

It is worth noting that the patch from comment 46 aligns docx with doc. Both of
them display bug 50774 the same way. And .doc does not have this bug's problem.

Microsoft's numbering implementation is very complex, and very different from
LO's internal design. So a lot of "emulation" needs to happen, which by
definition means certain features simply cannot work. It is a balancing act
between supporting the most common cases, and breaking once-working odd-ball
cases. (And my impression is that the current import implementation is a mess -
not using style name references, but directly applying the properties to the
paragraph, with lots of code scattered around handling edge cases...)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 115611] FORMATTING: more flexible page numbering method for presentation

2018-05-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115611

(In reply to Mark Hung from comment #8)
> @Regina:
>
> I wonder if using text:page-adjust="-1" is also a valid solution?
>

A solution to what problem? The attribute text:page-adjust does not mean to
change a page number or do a simple calculation. But e.g. text:page-adjust="2"
means to show the number of two pages ahead, _in the case_ such page exists,
and otherwise show no number at all. Because there exists no page with number
0, you cannot get a display of 0 by using text:page-adjust="-1".

LibreOffice has not implemented the attribute "style:first-page-number" of the
element. So you get no user page number at all.

ODF sets domain "positiveInteger" for attribute "style:first-page-number". So
we need in addition the same solution as in OFFICE-3923 to allow zero as page
number.

Summary: Save odt file with formula as another file leaves temp

Sample file.

1. Open the attached file that contains a simple formula.
2. Use "Save as" (Ctrl+Shift+s) the file as odt document.

Actual result: there is a temporary file ( something like lu5420hvp2hf.tmp )
left in the same directory.
Expected result: Writer should remove temporary files as soon as the document
saved.

Note: if user just modifies the content and use "Save" ( Ctrl + s ) to save the
file instead of using "Save as" ( Ctrl + Shift + s), there is no temporary file
left.

This definitely has my vote - accidental drag'n'drop is hugely annoying.
Suggestion to use alt is not working - alt-click inside the selection does
nothing, outside - creates a new selection without de-selecting the existing
one.

If someone has a dbgutil bibisect repo, perhaps they could bisect the assert
showing up in chart2 when trying the writer thing?

It predates my problematic commit by quite a long way (I've built all the way
back to 8000 revisions before my commit and I still see the assert).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 117758] New: Save copy of odt file containing formula leaves temporary file.

2018-05-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117758

Bug ID: 117758
Summary: Save copy of odt file containing formula leaves
temporary file.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.1.0.0.alpha1+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: mark...@gmail.com

Sample file.

1. Open attachment of tdf#117757. It contains a simple formula.
2. Use "Save a Copy" to save the copy of the document.

Actual result: there is a temporary file ( something like lu5420hvp2hf.tmp )
left in the same directory.
Expected result: Writer should remove temporary files as soon as the document
saved.

Note: not sure if "Save a copy" and "Save as" have different routes. But since
"Save" and "Save as" have different results I decide to open two issues for
"Save a copy" and "Save as".

Verified with:
Version: 6.1.0.0.alpha1+ (x64)
Build ID: 0e8d2cb6b7af441642ffe3e94cfccb526fb12b49
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0; UI render: default;
Locale: zh-TW (zh_TW); Calc: group

Open up a new issue per comment#11 of tdf#117225.

No. I consider it a bug in LibreOffice. The problem does not exist in Apache
OpenOffice.

But it is duplicate to bug 37754.
