[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 41345] FILESAVE as Picture does not work for filetype SVG

--- Comment #2 from Rainer Bielefeld libreoff...@bielefeldundbuss.de

[Reproducible] with LibreOffice 3.4.3 RC2 - WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German
UI [OOO340m1 (Build:302)].

Th problem is not that the options are offered but that the export does not
work.

I created a more simple test kit with a gif and a wmf as sample pictures.
Export from DRAW works, but Save as Picture (DRAW) and Save picture
(WRITER) will not work if you try to save these pictures form a document.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Download and unzip attached test kit
2. open testdocument.odt
3. Click the smiley
4. right click - Context menu - Save Graphic ... - - Select file type SVG
   - Type Name mytestsmiley - Save
mytestsmiley.svg will be created (make sure that auto-filenameextension is
   active)
5. open new mytestsmiley.svg using a browser
   Expected: Smiley
Actual: Error Message XML-Verarbeitungsfehler: Kein Element gefunden ...
6. open new mytestsmiley.svg from DRAW
   Expected: Smiley
   Actual: Filter selector

You will get the same result doing the test with testdocument.odg and
Save as Picture, I believe that the WRITER problem will disappear when the
DRAW issue has been fixed.

Other export formats might be affected.

Not a particular MASTER problem.

I can not confirm reporter's Save as Picture.gif problem, neither with 3.4.3
nor with Server installation of Master LibO-dev 3.5.0 – WIN7 Home Premium
(64bit) English UI [(Build ID: 81607ad-3dca5fd-da627d2)]. Might be a
different/related problem, a separate report might be useful.

Linux specific?

This is not a valid bug report.

May I ask you to read hints on http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport
carefully?
Then please:
- Write a meaningful Summary
- Attach a sample document (not only screenshot)
- Attach screenshots with comments if you believe that that might explain the
problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show
- Contribute a step by step instruction containing every key press and every
mouse click how to reproduce your problem (and if possible how to created a
  sample document from the scratch)
- add information
  -- what exactly is unexpected
-- and why do you believe it's unexpected (cite Help or Documentation!)
-- concerning your Printer and printer driver
-- concerning your OS (Version, Distribution, Language)
-- concerning your LibO localization (UI language)
–- Libo settings that might be related to your problems
-- how you launch LibO and how you opened the sample document
–- If you can contribute an OOo Issue that might be useful
-- everything else crossing your mind after you read a.m. URL

Please file Bug reports with status UNCONFIRMED if your are not absolutely sure
that you contributed all required background information, that the problem will
be reproducible with information you can provide or that your enhancement
request will be accepted! Thank you!

Open the report - wrong SQL appears. It isn't the SQL of the query.

A query is created for formatting and selecting one field. The query shows the
correct field. When generating a report with this query (using it for grouping
the report) the report would not start. It says: column not found
buchungen.Monat There is no buchungen.Monat in the query - only
Monat. So it could not be found. The wrong SQL-statement was created by the
Report-Builder.
If I switch the report not to analyse the SQL-code the report works well.

I can confirm that page settings from sample document are not in accordance
with LibO standard for reporter's sample and with LibreOffice 3.4.3 RC2 - WIN7
Home Premium (64bit) German UI [OOO340m1 (Build:302)]

This is not a printing, but a FILEOPEN problem n LibO an A4 landscape page
shows in Menu 'Format - Page':
Width: 297,00mm
Hight: 210,00mm
Radibutton: Landscape

Sample button in LibO shows
Width: 210,00mm
Hight: 297,00mm
Radibutton: Landscape

Width and height are interchanged

Same result with an own document created with Office 2010 by simply creating
new document, writing some numbers into some cells and then modifying page
orientation from portrait to landscape.

Save as .xlsx will have to be investigated

Hello,

An easy workaround is to suppress tab. Then right position after page number is
accessible and you can add end of hyperlink. Finally add back tabulation.

Sorry for my too short explanations. To remove the tabulation inserted in an
entry, just click once on 'T' between entry name and page number; then press
Del. key. That's all!
Then you can add start and end of hyperlink.
Then place a new tabulation. Do not forget to choose your character, right
position for this tabulation.

Another (more 'comfortable') workaround:
- First of all, set 'LS' (Hyperlink start) *after* '#' (Page number)
- Then set again 'LS' (Hyperlink start) *before* '#' (Page number)
- 'LS' after '#' will be modified to 'LF' (Hyperlink end)
[That's visible after having removed 'Tab stop' and 'Chapter number'-- see
comment #6]]
;)

But all these 'workarounds' are unacceptable for (normal) users.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 41407] New: EDITING: Presentation documents with a large number of complex EPS graphics renders very slowly.

2011-10-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41407

Summary: EDITING: Presentation documents with a large number of
complex EPS graphics renders very slowly.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.3 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Presentation
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org

Bug in LibreOffice Presentation

---
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF BUG: ===

Presentation documents with a large number of complex EPS graphics renders
very slowly.

Additionally, LibreOffice does not appear to efficiently store the
rendered screen-image. Thus, as the file is being edited, LibreOffice
continually tries to update the EPS graphics, and this results in the
computer effectively being frozen after each edit for a few minutes
until all the graphics can be re-rendered.

---
TESTED ON:   ===

I have only tested this on Linux.

---
SOFTWARE:   ===

Observed bug LibreOffice 3.4.3, 3.4.2, and 3.3.x

I have also observed this bug in various OpenOffice versions going back to
version 2.4.

The bug does NOT appear to be present prior to version 2.4.

---
HARDWARE:  ===

I do not think the bug is hardware dependent.

Observed bug on a number of computers including Dell Latitude E6510,
Dell Latitude 2100, Dell Latitude 2120, and IBM ThinkPad T43.

---
OPERATING SYSTEM:  ===

I do not think the bug is related to a specific Linux OS.

I have observed this bug on various version of Ubuntu including 9.10,
10.4, 10.10, and 11.4.

---
SAMPLE FILE:  ===

While any file with a large number of EPS graphics should produce this
bug, I have posted a sample on the web at:

http://www.physics.smu.edu/olness/ftp/misc/linux/BugTestEPS.odp

This is a relatively large file (10MB) to clearly demonstrate that it
can really lock-up the machine.

I've tested with some smaller files, and the rendering delay is
annoying, but it does not completely hang the machine.

The bug is not unique to this file. I give many presentations
which are typically 50 to 100 pages in length with a file size
of 5MB to 10MB, and any one of these will produce the bug.

---
TO REPRODUCE THE BUG:  ===

Open an Presentation document with a large number of complex graphics.
Go to Slide Sorter view:
  View - Slide Sorter

At this point, Presentation will use gs and convert to generate screen
previews. You can monitor this with top -d1

Complex EPS images may take up to 10 seconds to render, so if you have
60 images, that's about 10 minutes or so.

Once the images are rendered, Presentation does not store them efficiently
so they can be easily re-used. If you now start to edit the file,
Presentation will re-render the EPS files on the fly. Because each pass
through the file take 5 to 10 minutes to render, the computer is
essentially locked-up until Presentation can catch up with the edits.
You will notice that gs and convert are continually being called.

WHAT I EXPECTED:

This time delay makes the program unusable as each edit requires the
user to wait 5 minutes for Presentation to re-render the
graphics. This delay was not present in versions before 2.4.

---
THE BUG WAS NOT PRESENT BEFORE: ===

The bug is not present in older versions of OpenOffice;
specifically I have verified that it is NOT present in
OpenOffice 2.3 running on Scientific Linux.

---
AN INTERESTING EXPERIMENT  ===

The CPU time is being taken by external calls to gs and convert.
Under a system account, rename the gs and convert executables, and
then re-open Presentation. Screen previews will NOT be generated, but the
response of Presentation will be lightning fast.

Now rename the gs and convert executables back to their original
names, and re-open Presentation. Screen previews WILL be generated, and the
response of Presentation will be very slow.

---
A POSSIBLE WORK-AROUND:  ===

If you save the ODP document in the older SXI format, the response
of Presentation seems to improve markedly (after the initial rendering).

Quoting from the 3.3 Writer Guide.

You can also quickly insert a row or a column using only the keyboard:
1) Place the cursor in the row or column next to the row or column you want to
insert.
2) Press Alt+Insert to activate keyboard handling.
3) Use the arrow keys as desired to add a row or column:
Left to insert a new column to the left of the cell where the cursor is
located.
Right to insert a new column to the right of the cell where the cursor is.
Down to insert a new row below the cell where the cursor is.
Up to insert a new row above the cell where the cursor is.
The above keyboard technique can also be used to delete row
Alt+Insert keystroke combination in Step 2 with Alt+Delete.

Neither insertion nor deletion works as described. The arrow key uses merely
change the location of the cursor.

Others who would use this feature would be anyone who needs a post script
 file,
such as those using Hyla FAX or other fax utilities.

For me FAX seems to be an outdated technology, IMHO we should not invest much
time. there are lots of other Possibilities like FAX printers or clients listed
on http://www.hylafax.org/content/Client_Software

easily print to either a Post Script or a PDF. You have removed this feature.

With what Version?

created by Libre Office through CUP PDF is severely corrupted.

What bug number?

Yes, I have in the past installed a Apple Laser Writer in CUPS to work around
this problem. It is not intuitive to the user.

My question again: nothing found on
http://www.hylafax.org/content/Client_Software?

p.s. you could always fix the print to CUPS PDF problem.

Again: what bug number?

My conclusion:
PS export might bring benefit for some users and applications away from the
mainstream, but IMHO very few. There are lots of workarounds. So between all
those 10 things in the line to be done I see this one somewhere nearby
99900.
