[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 51890] New: On MacOS X, the progress bar and the new splash screen graphics are mis-aligned

 Bug #: 51890
Summary: On MacOS X, the progress bar and the new splash screen
graphics are mis-aligned
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 3.6.0.0.beta3
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI

Screenshot of the new splash screen at work

In LibO 3.6.0 beta 3, new background images for about box and splash screen
have been introduced. Thank you very much for the new clean look!

However, on MacOS X (at least on MacOS X 10.6.8) there is a visual glitch in
the new splash screen: the progress bar does not fit into the visible progress
bar frame which is a part of the new splash screen background image. See the
attached screenshot which explains this best.

This is a minor issue, I known, but nevertheless it makes the new splash screen
look worse (instead of better) than the old one and gives LibreOffice a not
really professional looking on MacOS X.

IMHO this is a consequence of commit
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?h=libreoffice-3-6id=08b4d85e6e04b1ca4ec7f9ea623d795af4a044d4
; Stefan Knorr (astron) explains in his notes to this comment:

  * The visible progress bar frame is now in the image itself
  which has two advantages
  - it is always there (otherwise the splash could come up
without any progress bar frame at all,
and then would appear a second later)
  - you can have arbitrary distances between the bar frame and the bar

But this change has the disadvantage to cause the visual glitch on MacOS X. To
make the splash screen look better, please either adjust position and length of
the progress bar, or remove the visible progress bar frame again from the
background image.

Hello Astron,
hello Thorsten Behrens,

I CC you because you will know best how to fix this issue. It is a very minor
issue, of course, but it should be trivial to fix, and it counteracts all the
work done to make the splash screen look better, making it look worse indeed on
MacOS X. So please have a look into this issue. Thank you very much in advance!

I have since upgraded to Fedora 17, with LibreOffice 3.5.4.2 Build ID:
350m1(Build:2). With this version, the problem seems to have gone away.

I tried to make the bug as Resolved/Fixed, but Bugzilla would not let me: it
returned the message You are moving the bug(s) to the product libqmi, and the
version and component fields are no longer correct. Please set the correct
version and component now:. As I don't know what the version and component
should be, I have had to leave the bug open. Feel free to close it, or cancel
it, as appropriate.

Hi I can not write in English. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Don't worry, mine is not good (I'm french...)

Did you tried what I suggested ? You have to defined the range of Rows to
repeat, here $1:$4

If you ask for repeating $4, it's only the fourh line that will be reproduced
from the 2nd page

In the attached spreadsheet FormatPrint ranges Edit is defined to
reproduce on all pages the cells I have coloured (yellow) : lines 1 to 4 and
col. A

I hope it is what you want :)

Regards
Pierre-Yves

Global application Options dialog in 3.6b3 with German UI

In LibreOffice 3.6 beta 3 for MacOS X (did not test Windows and Linux), if you
install and select the German langpack, the caption of certain buttons in
different dialog windows begins with a spurious '~', e.g. ~OK and
~Abbrechen instead of OK and Abbrechen.

I can't test all LibreOffice dialogs, but at least all instances of OK and
Abbrechen in the (application) Options dialog and in Writer's Paragraph and
Character dialogs are concerned.

This problem is brand new, in beta 2 there was NO '~' at the beginning of these
captions.

The problem is not present in the default (US English) locale; there the same
buttons have the correct captions OK and Cancel.

I will attach some screenshots showing the spurious '~'.

This is a minor issue, but nevertheless it needs attentions, because it makes
LibreOffice look rather unprofessional and ugly.

Update:
Further research shows that almost all buttons with captions OK and Cancel
(German: OK and Abbrechen) in all components (Writer, Calc, Impress ...) of
LibreOffice are affected -- almost all begin with the spurious tilde character.
At the moment I can't find any other buttons with different captions which show
the tilde. But given the fact that OK and Cancel are used in most dialog
windows, it is still true that a good part of all LibreOffice buttons are
affected by this glitch.

strange and should be fixed before 3.6 goes final. I hope that it should be
rather easy to fix this issue, because it must have been introduced between
beta 2 and beta 3, which narrows down the commits to check.

Thank you very much in advance!

(In reply to comment #3)
I tried to reproduce within and without gdb session.
Without gdb, I didn't reproduce the problem badfully
Within gdb, I had a segfault, eg here the backtrace :
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[...]
But by going on, the macro dialog appears as if segfault hadn't happen.

SIGSEGV from within JIT'ed JVM code is normal and harmless (JVM signal handler
catches it an synthesizes java.lang.NullPointerException from it).

Markus, I assume attachment 63469 also only shows backtraces at the time of
such a harmless JVM SIGSEGV? (That is, you were not able to reproduce the
problem either?)

Thanks for the feedback ! can you provide a simple set of steps from a
non-confidential document you can share to reproduce it ?

Failing that - if we could get a stack-trace of where it hangs (attach a
debugger) we could presumably fix the bug ~instantly; much of the work here is
getting to that trace.

Fridrich how does the win32 symbol server come along ? :-)

Zack's comment is correct, default color By Author for changes will be
defined by LibO to show different author's changes in different colors.

But I have no idea where the setting can be adapted, if I am the Author with
the light yellow changes (on light yellow page background) I would like to
modify that to make my changes better readable.

Current behavior is inherited from OOo

May be it's only a knowledge gap and it's possible to modify the default
changes color?

In table import dialogue Table Copy on 3rd page one can set field properties.
To find the hidden context menu for setting a field as primary key IMHO is not
intuitive.
Please add a check-box for primary key setting as shown in the attachment.
The current context menu then could be dropped.

The only point in this context-menue is primarykey. I have also searched for
this option a long time. A checkbox ore something else at the first page (where
you should choose a new primary-key) or at the third page (where you choose the
fields) is a good idea.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 51872] Add menu for table import

2012-07-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51872

--- Comment #2 from Ulf Zibis ulf.zi...@gmx.de 2012-07-09 11:47:23 PDT ---
(In reply to comment #1)
Copy 'n paste is the way many people work.

In the case of importing a sub-range of a sheet, I can agree, but not in case
of importing a whole table. Examples:
- To import MS-Access or MS-Excel data source into LibO Calc, one has NOT to
first open the document by help of the original application, in worst case, MS
Office is not installed on the machine.
- To import a CSV data source into LibO Calc, one has just to open the CSV
file, and an assisting dialogue is automatically opened.
- Importing favourites from IE to Firefox shouldn't work by Copy 'n paste.
- In rare case, user may not have installed LibO Calc, but wants to import data
from ods document.

To me it's very inconvenient to first open LibO calc, selecting the object,
open LibO Base, creating a new DB and pasting the object there (after I have
consulted the manual, to find the instructions for IMPORT in chapter BINDING
:-( ).

Binding and importing is a kind of similar action, e.g. handled in same chapter
in Manual, which is solely titled Database Binding. So why not treat those
actions similar.
Ideally you would add a 4th choice in the New Database-assistant.

And last but not least, it's no lapse to have several ways redundantly.

The BuildVersion, ProductBuildid. ProductMajor, ProductMinor, ProductSource,
ReferenceOOoMajorMinor and maybe more values in version ini are probably mostly
meaningless by now, and should be removed in 3.7, or at least 4.0. (The
three-digit number 350 used to refer to how version control was structured at
Sun/Oracle in OO.o times, master workspaces etc, and has little relevance
today.) Adding a new value that corresponds to the user-visible version from
Help:About definitely makes sense IMHO.

Created attachment 64018
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=64018
The html file I mentioned

I had a file (actually the template of Journal Of Optical Commpunications) and
had imported in Google docs. I exported it as html and tried to view in
Libreoffice.

While qupzilla 1.2.0 and MS Office 2010 displayed it almost the same,
Libreoffice was very very bad at displaying it. Especially the format and
location of tables drew my attention.

The same template is also available from the journal in .doc but the import in
Libreoffice is also very bad but this is not my main problem. (I like standards
compatible behavior).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 51908] New: : Word Count Characters (with spaces) incorrect with Numbering on

2012-07-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51908

 Bug #: 51908
Summary: : Word Count Characters (with spaces) incorrect with
Numbering on
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 3.5.3 release
  Platform: x86 (IA32)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: regression
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: caol...@redhat.com
CC: caol...@redhat.com, christopher.penal...@gmx.com,
kmi...@mm.st, mhag...@gmail.com, mst...@redhat.com
Depends on: 50141

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #50141 +++

There remains a problem in the word count in case of paragraph numbering

Steps to reproduce:

1. File New Text Document
2. Type test then apply numbering (toolbar Formatting)
3. Tools Word count

Actual result: 1 word, character 4
Expected result: 2 words, 6 characters

see Screenshot after step 3

4. Type Enter then Tools Word count

Actual result: 2 words and six characters
Expected result: 3 words, 8 characters

see Screenshot after step 4

5. Type Enter

Actual Expected results: stop numbering 6 characters and 2 words

see Screenshot after step 5

The problem seems to be the pending status after Step 4. If we redo enter
(step 5) will cancel the current numbering. These are the waiting numbers
which are not counted ... but they are there and IMHO they should be counted.

Platform: Windows 7 64bits Version 3.6.0.0.beta3 (Build ID: 3e2b862)
Reproduced on XP (en-discuss)

Regards
Pierre-Yves

I think that's the way we should go, at least MsiProductVersion=3.6.0.0.beta3
and some info the verson.ini in current builds is already really useful, no
idea whether the obsolete looking parts still are used somewhere or not. I
believe we should drop that garbage in Master and we will see what happens.

I can't reproduce this behaviour in the Report-Builder of Base. When there is
enough space for the whole content of one group it will be shown on one page -
without a Group Footer. I have put rectangles in the Details, the Group Header,
Page Header and Page Footer to see, if there is enough place for the whole
group.

A problem appears, when Group-Header and Details haven't enough space: The
Group-Header is shown at one page, no Details there, and the Details begin at
the next page. Must have a look, if this is reported at another place.

My System: OpenSuSE 11.4, 32 bit LO 3.5.5.2

Example of concatenating issue

While concatenating cells with randomly generated characters

=CHAR(65+RAND()*26)

all cells with random characters recalculate simultaneously at each new event.
It is kind of pretty, but does remove the functionality of this function :)

Some of the events that cause the regeneration of all random characters in the
sheet are as follows:

Adding text to a cell.
Deleting text from a cell.
Deleting a column.
Pasting.

I have attached the example file.

This limitation still exists with Portable LibreOffice 3.5.4.2
Build-ID: 165a79a-7059095-e13bb37-fef39a4-9503d18

Might be intended, but for what should that be useful, can be surmounted easily
by first starting Portable and then LibO / OOo / AOOo.

IMHO useless limitation!

Could be a problem with Java and LO 3.5. In your form are listfields. The
listfields aren't shown - only the values that were in the table. When you
click at the column-header it could be, that there appear the listfields with
the text, as in the example of OpenOffice (which version?).
An attachment with an example-database would be helpful.

So you are saying that this is a feature. Please reevaluate. That all random
characters regenerate randomly for each and every cell entry and other myriad
events does not seem like a desirable feature.

What is the value of random text that changes before you can even use it? A
spreadsheet is supposed to automate to some extent the calculations etc. Having
to manually copy / paste-text for each generated character string is a bug. It
is a pretty bug, watching rows and rows of random text recalculate with each
click, but it is still a bug.

RAND function returns a different value on each call, which occur on cell
recalculation due to automatic sheet recalculation. This is a standard
behaviour of this function in each and every spreadsheet.

If your problem is that format changing on a sheet triggers recalculation,
please state it clearly.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 51918] New: : Copying from Base table to Spreadsheet alphabetizes and misaligns headers

2012-07-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51918

 Bug #: 51918
Summary: : Copying from Base table to Spreadsheet alphabetizes
and misaligns headers
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 3.5.4 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Database
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: benjamin_licht...@brown.edu

Problem description:

After reading how to export data from Base
(http://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Importing_and_Exporting_Data_in_Base), I
attempted to follow the steps to export a csv. I copied the data from a table
in my database and pasted it into a new spreadsheet, but the header row was
completely alphabetized (and thus misaligned), and each header name occupied
more than a single column.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Import an mdb or accdb file into Base
2. Open a table
3. Copy the table
4. Open a new spreadsheet
5. Paste into the spreadsheet

Current behavior:
Elements of the header row are alphabetized and occupy more than one column.
Thus they are not properly aligned with each column of data.

Expected behavior:
Each element of the header row is properly aligned with the corresponding data
column.

Platform (if different from the browser):
Windows 7

I can't reproduce this. Created a little table and a default-value in the GUI.
Then created a form with the wizard. The default-value of the GUI appears. I
can change this values. The changing of the values is saved in the table.

My System: OpenSuSE 11.4, 32bit, LO 3.5.5.2

This is not a request for pivot chart. This is a bug report for the pivot
table output not broadcasting changes within the pivot table region.

I remember fixing a very similar bug during the 3.5 period. Using the latest
3.6.x build the chart gets updated correctly. Please use more recent release
to see if this bug still exists.

Redundancy can be an issue actually -- mostly because it just has a lot more
code that leaves a bigger memory mark on the system. Furthermore we have to
document everything so redundancy also leads to redundant documentation which
is all very time consuming for such a new and small project (relative to other
projects of course).

In this case I'm going to mark this as LOWEST priority ENHANCEMENT. The amount
of work is substantial, the number of users who would benefit seem to be
limited and there is already a way to do what you want (ie. you acknowledge
that this would just been an alternative way to do something).

Thanks for the suggestions, we'll see if one of the more experienced developers
can take a look at this once other bugs are taken care of.

You could write your filter-values in a separate little table. This values
could be read with a query. Only SQL-function you need is IFNULL(...) - then
the filter works, when there is an input in the filter-table, or the whole data
were shown.

I changed the Status to New, because I can confirm the behaviour you have
described. Changed also the Platform to All

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 51919] New: style:overflow-behavior=clip ignored in Draw

2012-07-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51919

 Bug #: 51919
   Summary: style:overflow-behavior=clip ignored in Draw
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Drawing
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: brenn...@email.arizona.edu

Created attachment 64028
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=64028
Attachment showing the bug.

The graphic style associated with the text box in the example file contains
style:overflow-behavior=clip, which should cause the text to be clipped,
since it cannot fit inside the text-box. However, this behavior is *not*
observed in libreoffice draw.
