3.5.7 is already out and there will not probably be a 3.5.8 release (3.5.x life
cicle is over)

since the bug is fixed in LibO 3.6.2 I suggest to upgrade to this or following
3.6.x branche releases.

 6. Save New Database.ODF in same folder
Expected: Database will be opened
Actual: Error Message The connection to the data source New Database

May be the necessary data provider is not installed

Same when I exactly follow reporter's steps and finish in my step 4
Same with LibO 3.4.5 and 3.3.3 and AOOo 3.4.1

I wonder why I always get error messages instead of freeze?

On a 64bit OS, Microsoft Jet is not installed by default. You need to install

Looking into ODBC trace it looks like there is no problem at all. I did one
 more test.
 a) Executed select * from mytable on DB2 command program to check the data
 in database table.
 b) Repeating steps from 1 to including 20.
 c) Turn on ODBC trace.
 d) Execute step 21 - Base crash appears.
 e) Turned off ODBC trace.
 f) Looking into the ODBC trace path folder and there is no trace file
 created.

You need to turn ODBC tracing on *before* LibreOffice loads the ODBC driver
manager. The easiest is to turn on ODBC tracing before starting LibreOffice.

Hi,
Had a short discussion on this topic with some people at LibrOfficeConference
and the general opinion is that it is a good idea - details to be discussed -
but only on developer builds. Not on final versions.
In order to prevent confusion with normal users.
Hmm. but then remains the question: what with betas and waht with release
candidates? We skipped that detail...
IMO those should have the option too.

  Still exists in 3.6.3.1

Dmitry, thank you very much for your testing results! If this bug is still
reproducible in 3.6.3.1, it is really independent from bug 54862.

Can you please explain in some detail (best: step by step!) what you did to
reproduce this bug in 3.6.3.1? And on which Platform (Linux, ...) did you
reproduce it? Thank you in advance!

I was able to reproduce it on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit using the following steps:

- start Writer with new empty document
 - create table with 2 columns and some rows
 - select some cells in one column(important that in one column) and merge them
 - save file in doc format
 - use File-Reload. Cells become unmerged.

NOT reproducible as a real problem for Server Installation of LibreOffice
3.6.4.0+ English UI/ German Locale [Build-ID: a4b919d],{tinderbox: Win-x86@9
pull time 2012-10-10 19:11:32} on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)

I never observed a real life problem during my hundreds of Server
Installations. I simply followed instructions on
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel#Administrativ_Installation
(more or less):

1. rename the downloaded file to something I can remember and type, for example
3640.msi and copy it to my C:\user\Username\ folder
2. In Win programs accessories from WIN Program Start Center I start
Zubehör/Eingabeaufforderung (no idea how that is called in English), what
   starts
the black DOS command line screen and shows the DOS prompt in my user folder
3. I type msiexec /a 3640.msi Return
Installation starts, and I will be asked for installation folder in the
   LibO installation dialog

So may be there is a problem that WIN command line rules are not respected in
all details (I have no skills or knowledge there) by LibO, but I can't see a
major QA problem here.

3. Tools-shared document- share document with other users
4. save

I admire the work of LibreOffice developers, but I'm surprised they do not
understand how important the function deprive the program.
Disabling shared file storage for unencrypted file weaken security.
Encrypt the data in two pososoby user-level and second at the file level.
Let's say the drive if the computer falls into the hands of unauthorized access
to the data and remains open because the file is unencrypted!
That's why for 10 years we use file encryption critically important shared.
Only trusted users have access to the file and no one else!
The file must be shared because several people róznocześnie working on a file
at the same time we want to have 100% security in case of theft file.

Password file is shared by our high security critical data!
We can not afford to keep unencrypted files of LibreOffice developers pleases

Hi,

(In reply to comment #30)
Instead of changing version numbers or removing it from a MAB list or
whatever (since that's all you've been doing in about 7 months the bug
exists) you should like put the effort into fixing it maybe.

Please try to be kind for the people putting effort in helping with bug triage.
It's a lot of work. And important, to reduce the change that bugs are not
getting the attention they deserve. (And then still, alas, it's sometimes long
to wait, we/I know that.)
And people doing bug triage, mostly are not working in the code.

And by the way, this bug still exists in 3.6.x so the bug report version has
to be set to that AFAIK, doesn't it? MAB list and bug report version are
 kind of different things.

People doing bug triage know how this must be handled. You can find it on the
QA wiki too.
  http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA#How_to_participate

Regards - Cor

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/de/libo_ui/translate.html?matchnames=accelerators
If English string does not have an accelerator, and you think it should have
one, please add it, try it, and send a patch. If you add accelerators to
translation, where you did not have it in English string, you may introduce a
UI bug like this.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 51689] EDITING: Enhancement: Additional possibility to insert paragraphs before and after sections, tables and indexes

2012-10-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51689

--- Comment #5 from harald-koes...@htp-tel.de ---
In the German user mailing list the same problem with a TOC has been reported.
So I thought again about a solution.

Another or an additional solution to my first proposal may be an item in the
submenu Insert: Paragraph above section/table/index.

In order to insert a paragraph e.g above a table, you should proceed as
follows:
[1] Position the cursor somewhere into the table.
[2] Menu: Insert Paragraph above table.

Then above the table a new paragraph (i.e. an empty line) is inserted and the
cursor should be positioned at the beginning of the new line.

Very relieved to see the extremely serious problem in comment 1 and 3 tackled.

The problem in the original description never worked properly in OOo and LibO,
so it can't be considered a regression.

In OOo 3.3.0 it started working correctly when copying 1 sheet at a time.

In my opinion it definitely is Most Annoying, so it qualifies for the MAB list.

Reproduced in LO 3.4.0, 3.3.2, OO 3.2.1 on Mandriva 2010 64 bit
Steps to reproduce:
open attachment, select both sheet, copy, change cell B5 on First sheet for
testing to which sheet points chart.
What is interesting:
delete first two sheet (two copied remains)
undo deletion
Now all 4 sheets point to first sheet (change cell B5 on first sheet to verify)

So, no regression

EDITING: Inconsistent / unintuitive reference link handling for check boxes

IMHO The whole issue of how Calc deals with charts, form fields etc. on

Yes, this work around is do-able. Still annoying: Yet another work around

Spreadsheet with cell comments and merge cell macro

Problem description:
Cells loose formatting (merged cell attribute) after save and reopen
if some cells have comments attached.

This worked fine in version 3.5.4.7.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open cell_merge_test2.ods
2. Run basic macro Format_Staggered - enter sheet name T1, when asked
3. Save file
4. Reopen file: cells are not merged anymore on the left of cells
containing comments/annotations

Current behavior:
Cells are merged in a staggered way by running the macro.
This works as expected.
Some of the cells are not merged anymore after file save and reopen.

Expected behavior:
Cells should stay merged even if they contain comments.

There should be only one stable and good tested build. I would prefer a new
version less often, but really stable - without crashes while pasting or
editing formulas. Calc supports more then o milion of rows, in theory. My file
has lass than 200kB and LO has problems with it. Adding a new row is very slow.
I am an advanced user of Calc, I use formulas, filters, conditional comments,
grouping, styles and various sheets, with 200 rows aprox, all - 10.000 cells

I am afraid that this is too specialized that you could not increase the
priority via the MABs meta bug = removing the dependency.

Note that if you want to deploy any application in enterprise environments, you
need a support contract. You can't expect that community will solve all bugs

e) 39178_swift_is_slow_3_revmarks_1.odt :
Just doubles the text amount of document (b): 480 pp, 798 KB, saves in 62

It is because settings inside of Heading 1 style.

Then the default H1 style settings have to be changed. Does not explain the
issue after manual page break though, and the change from H1 to H2.

Pls check again. The rendering of the test document is still the same in 3.6.2
but the behaviour changed. Second order H2 now also adds space, but it is still
possible to generate a document where Hx on the top has top space and where Hx
hasn't space added, depending on how you make the edits.

I will add a screenshot showing a H2 w/o top space while in the same document
other H2 headline does have top space.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 39178] Make record/track changes in Writer more efficient

2012-10-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39178

--- Comment #10 from stfhell stfh...@googlemail.com ---
Some comments regarding attachment 68913 and Comment #7:

Usability issues with revision tracking have been more or less the same from
StarOffice through OpenOffice to LibreOffice, because there has been only basic
maintenance of the redline feature of Writer in all these years, as it seems to
me. Therefore, it doesn't really matter which version of LO you are looking at.

Re (1):
Open 39178_swift_is_slow_2_revmarks_1.odt (240 pp) or
39178_swift_is_slow_3_revmarks_1.odt (480 pp). Disable show changes and edit
the document for a while. Insertions works fairly smooth, deletions take long
(8 seconds) to display.
Working with hidden changes is something very useful: It gives you the correct
final page layout and document size; it allows you to find and replace text
excluding already deleted text; and with a lot of revision marking it can be
difficult to read the text with all the deletions in between.

Re (2):
Saving the bare un-redlined files is usually a matter of about 4-5 seconds.
With about 10 edits per page, it is 20 seconds for the 240pp document and over
60 seconds for the 480pp document. While this is probably merely unpleasant
with normal saves, keep in mind that auto-saves behave identically, of course.
Saving the redline info takes exceptionally long if you consider how litte data
size is involved.

Re (3):
Open one of the files with redlines and insert some paragraphs anywhere. It
takes about 7 seconds on my system with the 240pp document for 1 paragraph.

Another constant source of trouble is the chronic unreliability of the track
changes function. Not all changes of the document are redline-able, so some
changes are not tracked at all (e.g. graphics or draw elements). But even the
tracked ones do not behave as they should. Take for example
39178_swift_is_slow_2_revmarks_1.odt and reject all changes made; then compare
with the original document 39178_swift_is_slow_1_original.odt. Of course, there
should be no differences - but there are (I already filed that as a bug). All
the little shortcomings add further to the inefficiency of working with record
changes, because even if you know about them, there is always some manual
cleanup to do after accepting all changes.

Hi Panda,

Thanks for the fantastic bug report, complete with test-kit images, etc. very
much appreciated. If (as we suspect) this is a duplicate of bug#48023 - then it
is fixed in 3.6.x. It'd be great to verify that is so - at least, we cannot
reproduce it here anymore.

wxx:
RTF file opens in libre office but scattered data. I dont want to change the
 format of the file.

This sounds like a different issue to the encoding problem that Panda filed for
this ticket. To avoid confusion it would be great to file a new issue of your
own with a sample document and a clearer explanation of your data scattering
problem, preferably vs. 3.6.2.

Thanks for using LibreOffice reporting bugs.

it's well known among Writer developers that the

Most likely related to our latest the m106 merge from OOo before 3-4 branch
off. Looks like we may have another place were we still use SID_PASSWORD
instead of the new SID_ENCRYTPTIONDATA.

I once spend some time cleaning the most obvious problems but without test
cases it is nearly impossible to know what needs to be a SID_PASSWORD and which
one needs to be a SID_ENCRYPTIONDATA. Sadly the OOo developer creating this
half fnished transformation no longer works on OpenOffice or Libreoffice.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 56285] New: There should be a saveTo/ export menu item/command which behaves like saveas but doesn't change current document's url

2012-10-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56285

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 56285
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: There should be a saveTo/ export menu item/command
which behaves like saveas but doesn't change current
document's url
  Severity: enhancement
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: marco-owe...@gmx.de
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: Libreoffice
   Product: LibreOffice

Sometimes you have a source document which you wan to export as csv or html -
eg because that's easier to be processed by additional tools.

It may still be useful to keep the old name so that formatting isn't lost.
That's why I suggest doing it the gimp way: provide save-as and an
export/save-to command. The first changes the document's url, the latter
doesn't.

Yes - this is not a bug - its a feature request

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 50542] Multiples issues with Libo when %appdata% special folder is redirected to UNC share path

2012-10-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #17 from Mihkel Soomere donzoo...@zoomik.pri.ee ---
That much about being stable enough for conservative corporate users... :)
Actually we do have Novell available but haven't made the switch for their
version. I guess we could try out their version and request a fix through them.

As apparent, the bug can manifest in non-enterprise environments as well if
user decides to change AppData path. Quite unlikely but possible...

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 41909] Record Macro menu item is missing or there are Help entries that need to be fixed

2012-10-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41909

--- Comment #8 from Marc Weber marco-owe...@gmx.de ---
Why not unconditionally show the menu item Record Macro and when clicked tell
the user that he/she has to enable experimental features?

OpenOffice does show that menu item, libre office does not - if you don't use
google (which luckely quickly shows this thread) - you think its not available
anymore. Then you don't even need to modify the help

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 56288] New: typed interface to API

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 56288

Classification: Unclassified

The API is very hard getting used to - a lot of googling, digging, failing.

Why aren't there simple methods like this:

ctx.getActiveDocumentAsSpreadSheet().saveTo/As(..)

This way there might be a chance to implement your idea without even browing
api.libreoffice.org ..
You could use code completion of Java/Scala etc.

All sample code would be a lot more readable.

It took me a couple of hours to ask open office by Java UNO API access whether
a cell is merged - and I failed finding out how many cells got merged.

I'll finally solve my problem by exporting to .html and parsing that.

This is my attempt to get the range of a merged cell - and I failed.
It requires about 10 lines to access the current active sheet - which is way
too much for my personal taste - given that most actions either create a new
document or operate on the current document.

Thanks Ivan. Great work! :)

Look forward to seeing it in the next release.

btw: please could you point me to a guide on correct definitions of
'importance', etc. (assumed 'blocker' meant 'function blocker' - ie. 'no
workaround available/possible')? thanks.

Its fine if there is a reason - but I don't see it.

It might be much better to actually tell the user why its grayed.
I still don't know.
I tried linux and windows (3.6.2.2, build da8c1e6)

oo ships with python.exe - so I don't see any reason why its not possible to
create python scripts - because basic lacks even trivial functions such as
str_replace.

no, 'blocker' means 'release blocker', so new releases must be delayed until
all blockers are fixed.
