https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67698

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 67698
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: VIEWING: Enhancement: Show the real number and count
of pages in web layout view
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: bugquestcon...@online.de
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.0.4.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:
When the web layout view is used, in the bottom left corner the page number and
page count is shown as 1/1. Which can be considered as correct.

However, very often the real figures are needed. Here "real" means the figure
which are indicated on the same spot when the Print Layout View is selected.
Currently to see these real figures it is always needed to switch between the
views.

Enhancement request
The enhancement should - in the Web Layout view, - show the real number of
pages and page count based on the print format selected for the pages.

Created attachment 83564
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=83564&action=edit
FontForge screenshot of metrics for Rotis and DejaVu Sans fonts.

This is not necessarily the cause of the problem, but it is worth noting that
the SPACE (U+0020, named "glyph1") character in the provided custom font is
mapped to the beginning of the Private Use Area (U+E001, named "space"). I am
not sure why this would be necessary, but it seems erroneous.

A more likely cause of your problem is that LO is now (more) correctly
interpreting the metrics of your font. I have attached a screenshot of what
FontForge shows for the OS/2 > Metrics tab. There are significant differences
e.g., a "Typo Line Gap" of zero for your font. It is possible this is
contributing to the line spacing issue.

I don't understand how a feature that's 20+ years old in DTP software and will
visibly affect the quality of output of every document using full justification
is not given the priority of features like importing graphical bullets from
word docs and having gradient frame backgrounds.. maybe there's something in
the architecture of LO that makes it very hard to do, or maybe the people doing
the dev work don't see it as important? What to do?

Laszlo was working on it amongst other features that have since been integrated
in 2011, but not sure where his work on it went..

Lets focus only on problems you explained, because that's too much :)

> All the following things appear more often in several of the files, but I
> picked the places where it's best visible. Also, often when double clicking
> on the objects that are wrong I get an "General OLE error" (not sure if
> exact this in english, I have the German version "Allgemeiner OLE Fehler").
Confirmed. Some bugs also reported about that.

> "Nonlinear Optics.pptx":
> - slide 8: One of the biggest errors. There's a huge "E" overlapping
> everything. Seems to be a font size problem.
Confirmed. I don't from where that "E" came from, other contents in slide 8 is
allright if we remove the "E".

> - slide 9. There are vector arrows above some letters. In LO they are
> shifted to the top right some distance. This happens on other slides, too.
Confirmed, that arrows shouldn't be there. I also saw that in the center
equation should be bordered with pink lines, but that lines not there (perhaps
related to Bug 63704).

> - Not sure on this one, could be intended by the author! Slide 24, there is
> "hidden text" (white text on white background). But maybe the author decided
> to hide it this way.
No issue with that. But I saw the equation should be bordered with blue lines
(just like the problem on slide 9 above).

> File "Atomic_transitions_Lasers1":
> - slide 29: in the lower formula I see a big filled black circle. This
> should be an "h-bar" (reduced Planck constant)
Confirmed (see Bug 34706 with PPT, Bug 51002). Another issues:
- Font size in left & right side of the formula is smaller than in top & below.
- Formula should be bordered with purple lines (like problems in previous file
above) & filled with white color background.

> File "Optical switching.pptx":
> - slide 49: The wave should be animated, in LO it's static however.
Confirmed. LO only interprets those objects with 'Start : With previous'
animation.

> In all files, but best visible in "Beam Optics.pptx":
> - font size seems to be to large. In the original lecture everything was
> projected easily readable on the wall. But in LO some text goes over the
> edge or over the "background design" at the bottom where it should not go.
I couldn't see font size problem on the file. But I also saw general background
problem (on bottom left) with wrong background color hatchings, should be
colored with blue background.

Tested on LO 4.0.5.1 & PPV 14 (Win7 32bit)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 67691] New: Other: Functionality of the template manager in 4.0 is not good

2013-08-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67691

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 67691
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Other: Functionality of the template manager in 4.0 is
not good
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: bugquestcon...@online.de
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.0.4.2 release
 Component: Libreoffice
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:

Although I did not understand the full functionality of the old template
manager (last used version 3.6.6), I am quite disappointed with the
functionality and appearance of the one in 4.0.

I do feel very sorry for the person who wrote the code with plenty of good
intentions and a lot of hard work. This made me hesitating to write the bug
report already for a while.

I only use it only to save a template. Even here I cannot click anymore on an
existing template name and just do the name changes I need to do.
However, sorting, grouping and deleting etc I do just in a normal folder window
(OS: XP)
Double clicking opens a new file based on this template, and right click and
Open allows modification to a template.

In Nabble there was also recently a thread of mail concerning this topic
http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/template-menu-tt4064119.html#a4064600
There might be even more.

If there is interest and a chance to either go back to old template manager or
develop a better one, I am willing to collect more detailed information to
help to improve LibO in this respect.

AFAIK, there is no easy way to type this character with LO. You have to use the
Insert Character command. U+202F NARROW NO-BREAK SPACE.

But I can easily add this character with my keyboard.
And now French users can easily add this character with the “text formatter”,
an extension for LO I wrote to help users to format texts according to French
typographic rules.

2013-08-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57378

--- Comment #18 from Stephan van den Akker ---
Thanks Cor,

The issue with bitmaps in docx files not being cropped seems to be solved. Many
thanks to the unknown hero that fixed this.

I'm trying to figure out what is going on in my "real life" document.

The remaining problem is with drawings (grouped vector and bitmap elements)
inside a Word 97-2003 doc. For some reason the bitmap elements inside these
drawings are not recognised as bitmaps by Writer, and are treated as some kind
of uncroppable but scalable vector element. E.g. the context menu of the bitmap
part doesn't have the "Picture" and "Caption" items associated with a bitmap. I
can't attach a sample document, but I can provide a small sample file to the LO
devs.

The only thing I notice different in the content.xml part of this document is
an extra empty element within the surrounding the
draw:image refrerence:

Removing it seems to make no difference.

Hope it helps,

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 67673] Other: Pasting data into Calc - Text import dialog ignores column type

2013-08-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67673

I have experimented a bit more with mixed data in the columns and now I
understand what is happening:

When you select a column and mark it as "Text", Calc goes through and
identifies all the cells that have numberic data in them and changes the format
to "Text", but it leaves all the cells that have non-numeric data alone and
leaves them as "Number".

The result is that the spreadsheet now has a column with mixed data in it.

The reason that this behavior is annoying and why I consider it a bug is this:

When I imported the text column, in the import column I marked it as text and
thought I was done. It was only later than I realized that sorts on that column
were not sorting that column properly. They were in a bizzare order and I
started digging into the problem.

The way the current functionality is set up means that the "column type"
setting in the import dialog is essentially useless because you are not
guaranteed that it will actually set the column type. After the data has been
imported, you have to go an set the format of the cells again.

If you mistakenly believe that the column type setting in the import panel
actually sets the column type, then none of your data sorting will work
properly for text data.

Best regards,

Marcel

(In reply to comment #9)

However, in one case it is setting the format of the cell and in the other it
is not. Why is Calc setting the format of the cell for column 2 and not for
column 1?

That is inconsistent. For one column Calc does what the user has asked it to
do, but for another Calc silently ignores the users input?

If selecting "Text" for column sets the format for the cells in column2 to
text, then it should do the same for column 1.

If selecting Text is going to continue being ignored on Column 1, then it
should be removed from the pulldown for that column.

well that clearly indicates that the start position of some mark doesn't point
to a text node, which is not valid - interesting question is how it got to be
that way, for which probably a lot more debugging is required.

it's either a range based mark or a field mark, guess vmiklos knows that stuff

Hi,

I can confirm with 4.1.0.4 and 4.1.0.1 on OSX 10.8.4. pdf export works with
4.0.4.2. It also works with 4.1.0.4 on Ubuntu linux.

Looks similar to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67416 but not
sure if it really has the same cause, so setting status to new.

Thanks for reporting.

It does exactly what it should do. It changes that column to text values and
if, after the import, I right click on a cell in the second column and say
Properties, it tells me its a text cell.

However, if I do the same thing on the 1st column, it does not change the cells
to text cells, it keeps them as number cells.

Try it. Mark both columns as text and after the import check the cell
properties. If have tried it numerous times and it does not work for that first
column.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 57291] Embedding audio files used for transitions

2013-08-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57291

I agree that this is a very desirable feature, particularly because using a
sound file for transition is the only way you can place a sound-track in a
presentation so that it will run throughout the whole presentation. For
example, I created a presentation for which the whole purpose was to display
the words of a song, with saved timings so the slides would change at the right
points in the song, but when I copied the presentation to the computer it is to
be shown on - no song!

Thanks,

Marc

2013-08-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67673

Hi Cor,

I am not convinced that we are talking about the same thing. So let me as you
this:

1) Copy the following lines and paste them into a text editor. Then copy the
same lines from the text editor. (If you copy/paste directly from a web page it
will behave differently, but that is a different issue).

D 3
U 4
d 13
u 4
DDDUD 27
DDDUU 10
DDDUd 36
DDDUu 16
DDDdD 26
DDDdU 36

2) Paste into a new worksheet in Calc.

Calc immediately pops up a modal panel labeled Text Import.

3) On that panel select "Space" as a separator. Now in the field display you
will see two columns. The first containing text strings and the second
containing numbers.

4) Click on the header for the first column. The column type pulldown will say
"Standard"

5) Select "Text" from the pulldown.

6) Hit OK to import the data into the spreadsheet.

So, my question is this: What is the expected behavior of my having selected
"Text" from the pulldown? I have been laboring under the assumption that making
that choice tells calc that those are "Text" cells. If that is not the case,
then I do not understand what the purpose of that "column type" pulldown is.

I've created Bug 66340 that has the symptoms I've described and though they're
similar to Bug 60441 a presumption that they are the same bug would be a guess
on my part. For Bug 66340 I've attached a very simple test case the reproduces
a failure. My suggestion is to address Bug 66340. Bug 66340 was reported
6/28/13 and as of 8/2/13 apparently has not been addressed by anyone.

The problem is more serious than described here.

Once the grid has been disabled in the sidebar, it can never be turned on via
the toolbar. Toolbar and sidebare state are never synchronous for grid on/off.

See also bug 67104 which has better description.

Thus changed Importance to medium normal.

Hi Marcel,

- pls respond in the Web-interface. to prevent unnecessary quoting -

Maybe there is some confusion on 'Number/Default' which is the 'setting' that
allows to insert numbers, dates, text etc. and that it then is interpreted.

If you really insist on changing something here, then pls go to some die hard
spreadsheet experts and discuss it with them ;)
Cheers,
Cor

2013-08-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67673

Hi Cor,

Thanks for the quick response, but your answer does not make sense to me. Yes,
you are correct, the formatting on the pasted data is Number/Default - if that
was simply the default behavior I would have no problem with that.

However, when I did the paste, Calc popped up a panel that specifically asked
me what type the columns were and I specified that the column was text. I did
not ask for this panel - Calc chose to pop it up when I did the paste.

So, if Calc is going to pop up a panel that asks me what type the column is,
and then chooses to ignore my input, that looks, smells, and tastes like a bug.

Either Calc should not have the option to specify the column format on the
import panel, or it should not ignore it. Either way, something needs to
change.

Marcel

(In reply to comment #1)

I studied this behavior, and the problem is not the border width, but your
PointA helped me to find out what is it.

So the problem: Every cell has its own borders, and the neighbouring borders
are placed on each other. So if you set 2 kind of width, in general, the
thicker will be displayed.

My suggestion for solution: The border of neighbouring cells should be a common
attribution. For example: L2's bottom border is L3's top border. I think this
is how Excel works, so Calc should works like this. I upload an attachment to
illustrate some options.

The formatting is Number/Default.
It has been like that for ages: at least in LibreOffice 3.3.0 it already is
like that. So I guess it's simply intended behaviour. Because also when you
just type 'apple' in an empty default cell, it is text, but the formatting
still is Number/Default.
