[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 54513] Label Horizontal Pitch Not to specific Label dimensions
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54513 --- Comment #11 from Winfried Donkers winfrieddonk...@libreoffice.org --- (In reply to comment #10) When calculating the page width from the label dimensions in LibreOffice, I get: left margin + 2 * hor. dist. + label width + right margin ( not contained in label definition as not all labels are positioned symmetrically, but here aasumed as much as th eleft marging) = 4.8mm + 2 * 69.9mm + 66.7mm + 4.8mm = 216.1 mm = 8.508in. It cannot be avoided that small differences occur, by rounding, paper shrinking/expanding (moist, temperature), printer inaccurancy/misalignment, etc. If you maintain a small margin on your label (I mean space between label edge and text), you should allow for these differences. Your suggestion to place the labels on the page starting from the middle as opposed to starting from the left (which is the current method), is an interesting one. It would certainly be a good idea for labels which are placed symmetrically on the page. But not all labels are like that. Currently, the right margin is the variable. The right margin cannot be less than 0. I will think about your suggestion to see if I can find a method whicht spreads the inaccuracy of the label position more evenly over the labels in a row and not incrementing from left to right (current behaviour). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 43786] Intransparent Use of Options
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43786 Harald Koester harald.koes...@mail.de changed: What|Removed |Added Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED Resolution|WORKSFORME |--- Summary|FILEOPEN: Option|Intransparent Use of |LibreOffice Writer,|Options |General, Update link when | |loading is Changed by | |Opening Documents | --- Comment #4 from Harald Koester harald.koes...@mail.de --- I checked the problem again with with Versions 3.5.3 and 4.1.1. The behaviour is equal. For me the problem still exists in both versions. Hence I reopened the bug. Perhaps my first description was not clear enough, I was not very experienced in writing bug reports at that time. So in order to reproduce the problem I wrote a new and hopefully better step by step description: (1) Start LO and open a new text document. (2) Set option “LibreOffice Writer General Update Update links when loading” to “Never”. (3) Insert some text. (4) Save and close document. (5) Open another new document. (6) Open option dialogue, option of step (2) is set to “Never”. Change option to “On request”. (7) Close document. You do not need to save it. (8) Open first document again. (9) Open option dialogue, option is set “Never”. This is already a little irritating, hence the option has been set to “On request” in step 6. Go on with step (10a) or (10b) – (10a) Assume that you like to open another new document with “Never” at this point: A change of the option seems to be not necessary. Hence close options dialogue with “OK” or “Cancel” and open new document. (11a) Open options dialogue again. Option is set to “On request”. Expected: Option is set to “Never”. In this case the problem is step (9). The displayed option is a property of the document and not a general option. But the general option of step (6) is still active and this is not obvious to the user! – (10b) Assume that you like to open another new document with “Always” at this point: Change option to “Always”. Then “OK” and open new document. (11b) Open options dialogue again. Option is set to “Always”. Then click “Cancel”. This is OK but ... (12b) … change to first document again and open options dialogue. Option is set to “Always”. Expected: “Never”. In this case the problem is step (10b). LO can't know at this point, if a user likes to change the option for a new document or to change the option of the first document. LO changes both. –-- Comments: There are some more options that behave in the same manner. Hence the option “Update links when loading” is just an example and therefore I changed the subject of this bug to “Intransparent Use of Options”. I checked only Writer options. I assume that there are options in other components (Calc, Draw,..) that behave equal. This problem seemed to be not really a severe problem. Otherwise there would be more complaints. This may be due to the fact that options are changed not very often. And if a user does this she/he will manage it somehow (e.g. change options several times) in order to get the wanted result. But sometimes there may be a bad feeling left at the users, because the use of this kind of options is not very transparent and I think that in most times they do not really understand what happens. So I think it is worth to think about a better solution. Oohh..., I just stumbled across the option “Load/Save General Load Load user-specific settings with the document”. In the test steps above this option has been checked. If it is unchecked, the behaviour is different. Now even for me, who did several tests, it becomes more and more confusing. It seems that this option has an influence on other options. I think, hardly to understand for users. Also the Help of this option does not really help. It is not clear which options and perhaps also which file properties are effected by this option. Another reason to think about a better solution. –- Proposal: The primary goal for a change should be to make it easier for a user to understand the functionality. In my first report I proposed to move the current state of an option to the document properties dialogue and the corresponding option in the options dialogue should only be the initial state of a document property. After some thinking I would even go a step ahead: I would also move the initial state from the options dialogue to the document properties dialogue. In this case both the property (or option) of the current document and the initial value for new documents of this property (or option) should be displayed side by side. Then a user would see and recognize at first view the function of each property (or option). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52236 --- Comment #10 from Domas Jokubauskis dom...@gmail.com --- The decimal point is dependant on locale not the language. Here in Lithuania we use , for decimal point and . for thousands separation. The problem with decimal points in CSV files arises when the CSV file is created using a computer on one locale and opened in a computer with another locale. Using LibreOffice 4.1.2.3 from Debian Testing I created example file decimal_test.ods that was saved as decimal_test_en_GB.csv in en_GB.UTF-8 and as decimal_test_lt_LT.csv in lt_LT.UTF8 locale (field separator is ;). When decimal_test_lt_LT.csv is opened in en_GB.UTF-8 locale the numbers with decimal points are imported as text and cannot be used in calculations without editing. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52236 --- Comment #14 from Luís Neves luis.ne...@ipleiria.pt --- Thanks Domas Jokubauskis, That option of choosing the decimal character when opening the file is exactly what I wish to have in calc. The fact is that many engineering software programs produce ASCII files without consideration for the user LOCALE (because they are old pieces of software or because it's the standard output from programming languages like fortran). The example I attached is from the EnergyPlus software, a command line simulation tool for Energy in Buildings, which is very recent anyway. Of course, a user with a US/UK locale will probably not understand the need because the decimal character is mantained. And seems like you have activated this feature in the original Word document. But LO 4.0 didn't have that feature, so it silently ignored it, and you got a smaller file. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

After adding that line, the file opens without any problem. The reason for such behavior is that LibreOffice uses libxml2 library, which assumes UTF-8 or UTF-16 when there isn't an encoding declaration, see http://www.xmlsoft.org/encoding.html#implemente. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 58086] FILESAVE: Some footnotes lost after filesave to docx

Anyway, problem NOT reproducible with LO 4.1.2 on Windows. All 554 footnotes present. Opening of converted docx is terribly slow in LO, or it just hangs. I write that in Bug 59918. Concerning the problem that the conversion process spoils footnote numeration to restart at every chapter LO supports footnotes to restart at every chapter (apart from end of page and end of document), while MS Office 2013 doesn't. I cannot open the new docx with Word, to verify that the numbers of footnotes do not start over per chapter. The same docx opened with LibreOffice shows the numbers of footnotes DON'T start over at new chapter. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 43008] Calc Editing: With entire column selected, pasting into the column causes hang
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43008 --- Comment #7 from dab...@gmail.com --- This is a serious bug that is reproducible in Openoffice, Libreoffice, and Neoffice, on my Macbook Pro, 10.8.5. Basically makes the spreadsheet application of these MS Office alternatives useless. (In reply to comment #6) Lost my work by crashing LibreOffice calc. Closing in Gnome does not work, soffice keeps running. Had to kill soffice in the terminal. Steps to reproduce: - type something in A1 - type soemthing in A2 - select A1..A2 - copy - click on column B by accident instead of selecting B1 - paste: memory usage rises, program hangs, work lost. Talked to colleagues about this, they also experienced this too many times. They are now using Microsoft Excel, because of this (and also because of the too low maximum amount of columns possible). Mission critical. Fix it or disable it! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
