[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 37130] Insert - Comment uses default system font instead of default Writer font

2013-10-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #14 from sergio.calleg...@gmail.com ---
I certainly agree that comments should not use the default system font (that is
probably not portable among different machines). But I don't really agree that
comments should use default writer font.

IMHO, comments should use a style, just like everything else, only picking
those features (font, size, etc.) that are actually applicable to comments.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 54513] Label Horizontal Pitch Not to specific Label dimensions

2013-10-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54513

--- Comment #11 from Winfried Donkers winfrieddonk...@libreoffice.org ---
(In reply to comment #10)
When calculating the page width from the label dimensions in LibreOffice, I
get:
left margin + 2 * hor. dist. + label width + right margin ( not contained in
label definition as not all labels are positioned symmetrically, but here
aasumed as much as th eleft marging) =
4.8mm + 2 * 69.9mm + 66.7mm + 4.8mm = 216.1 mm = 8.508in.

It cannot be avoided that small differences occur, by rounding, paper
shrinking/expanding (moist, temperature), printer inaccurancy/misalignment,
etc.
If you maintain a small margin on your label (I mean space between label edge
and text), you should allow for these differences.

Your suggestion to place the labels on the page starting from the middle as
opposed to starting from the left (which is the current method), is an
interesting one. It would certainly be a good idea for labels which are placed
symmetrically on the page. But not all labels are like that.
Currently, the right margin is the variable. The right margin cannot be less
than 0.
I will think about your suggestion to see if I can find a method whicht spreads
the inaccuracy of the label position more evenly over the labels in a row and
not incrementing from left to right (current behaviour).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Get unoconv from the git repository.
2. Grab the attached (completely trivial) .docx document.
3. Run the following command:

dhcp1:unoconv-git $ ./unoconv -T 30 -f xhtml --stdout ~/Desktop/crash.docx

Current behavior:

libc++abi.dylib: terminate called throwing an exception
unoconv: RuntimeException during export phase:
Office probably died. Binary URP bridge disposed during call
Traceback (most recent call last):
File ./unoconv, line 1172, in module
die(exitcode)
File ./unoconv, line 1032, in die
if convertor.desktop.getCurrentFrame():

Expected behavior:

XHTML output.

We have deployed the latest version of LibreOffice 4.1.2.3 to our users.
They started to open their already made odt of 4.0.0.3 and started to save

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a writer file in 4.0.0.3
2. Save it
3. Reopen the saved 4.0.0.3 file and open it in 4.1.2.3
4. Save the document - check the size now

The screenshot shows the list of default document languages. Tatar was never
present there as we don't have a locale data set for Tatar [tt-RU] and fully
supported default languages need locale data assigned. You'll find Tatar in the
language list of character attribution though, for example in Writer menu
Format-Character, which makes it available for spell-checking if a
corresponding dictionary is installed.

Hey

I checked daily master build and Calc still has this regression. It loses table
formating (borders, but only with hashtags) and it's not related with file
format (neither save as XLS(X) nor ODS is not solution).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 43786] Intransparent Use of Options

Summary|FILEOPEN: Option|Intransparent Use of

   |Opening Documents |

--- Comment #4 from Harald Koester harald.koes...@mail.de ---
I checked the problem again with with Versions 3.5.3 and 4.1.1. The behaviour
is equal. For me the problem still exists in both versions. Hence I reopened
the bug.

Perhaps my first description was not clear enough, I was not very experienced
in writing bug reports at that time. So in order to reproduce the problem I
wrote a new and hopefully better step by step description:

(1) Start LO and open a new text document.
(2) Set option “LibreOffice Writer General Update Update links when
loading” to “Never”.
(3) Insert some text.
(4) Save and close document.
(5) Open another new document.
(6) Open option dialogue, option of step (2) is set to “Never”. Change option
to “On request”.
(7) Close document. You do not need to save it.
(8) Open first document again.
(9) Open option dialogue, option is set “Never”. This is already a little
irritating, hence the option has been set to “On request” in step 6. Go on with
step (10a) or (10b)

–

(10a) Assume that you like to open another new document with “Never” at this
point: A change of the option seems to be not necessary. Hence close options
dialogue with “OK” or “Cancel” and open new document.
(11a) Open options dialogue again. Option is set to “On request”. Expected:
Option is set to “Never”.
In this case the problem is step (9). The displayed option is a property of the
document and not a general option. But the general option of step (6) is still
active and this is not obvious to the user!

–

(10b) Assume that you like to open another new document with “Always” at this
point: Change option to “Always”. Then “OK” and open new document.
(11b) Open options dialogue again. Option is set to “Always”. Then click
“Cancel”. This is OK but ...
(12b) … change to first document again and open options dialogue. Option is set
to “Always”. Expected: “Never”.
In this case the problem is step (10b). LO can't know at this point, if a user
likes to change the option for a new document or to change the option of the
first document. LO changes both.

–--

Comments:

There are some more options that behave in the same manner. Hence the option
“Update links when loading” is just an example and therefore I changed the
subject of this bug to “Intransparent Use of Options”.

I checked only Writer options. I assume that there are options in other
components (Calc, Draw,..) that behave equal.

This problem seemed to be not really a severe problem. Otherwise there would be
more complaints. This may be due to the fact that options are changed not very
often. And if a user does this she/he will manage it somehow (e.g. change
options several times) in order to get the wanted result.
But sometimes there may be a bad feeling left at the users, because the use of
this kind of options is not very transparent and I think that in most times
they do not really understand what happens. So I think it is worth to think
about a better solution.

Oohh..., I just stumbled across the option “Load/Save General Load Load
user-specific settings with the document”. In the test steps above this option
has been checked. If it is unchecked, the behaviour is different. Now even for
me, who did several tests, it becomes more and more confusing. It seems that
this option has an influence on other options. I think, hardly to understand
for users. Also the Help of this option does not really help. It is not clear
which options and perhaps also which file properties are effected by this
option. Another reason to think about a better solution.

–-

Proposal:
The primary goal for a change should be to make it easier for a user to
understand the functionality. In my first report I proposed to move the current
state of an option to the document properties dialogue and the corresponding
option in the options dialogue should only be the initial state of a document
property. After some thinking I would even go a step ahead: I would also move
the initial state from the options dialogue to the document properties
dialogue. In this case both the property (or option) of the current document
and the initial value for new documents of this property (or option) should be
displayed side by side. Then a user would see and recognize at first view the
function of each property (or option).

LibreOffice Calc has incorrect default values for decimals making it quite
strange if you want to have no decimals:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open Example.ods
2. Go in cell C3 and go into the menu to format the cell (Zellen formatieren)
3. As you can see the field for decimals is already on 0.
4. As everything is how you want it to be, close the dialogue by clicking on
ether OK or cancel.

Result:

The cell still has decimals

Expected results:

The cell shouldn't have decimals as the value decimals is on 0.

In order the really have no decimals you have to enter 0 again into the
decimals or delete the existing 0 to have it replaced by a new 0.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 52236] CSV import/Export filter option for decimal point character

2013-10-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52236

--- Comment #10 from Domas Jokubauskis dom...@gmail.com ---
The decimal point is dependant on locale not the language. Here in Lithuania we
use , for decimal point and . for thousands separation. The problem with
decimal points in CSV files arises when the CSV file is created using a
computer on one locale and opened in a computer with another locale.

Using LibreOffice 4.1.2.3 from Debian Testing I created example file
decimal_test.ods that was saved as decimal_test_en_GB.csv in en_GB.UTF-8
and as decimal_test_lt_LT.csv in lt_LT.UTF8 locale (field separator is
;). When decimal_test_lt_LT.csv is opened in en_GB.UTF-8 locale the
numbers with decimal points are imported as text and cannot be used in
calculations without editing.

Please see attachment CSV import dialog in QtiPlot that includes decimal point
selection for an example implementation of the decimal point character
selection.

--- Comment #14 from Luís Neves luis.ne...@ipleiria.pt ---
Thanks Domas Jokubauskis,

That option of choosing the decimal character when opening the file is exactly
what I wish to have in calc. The fact is that many engineering software
programs produce ASCII files without consideration for the user LOCALE (because
they are old pieces of software or because it's the standard output from
programming languages like fortran). The example I attached is from the
EnergyPlus software, a command line simulation tool for Energy in Buildings,
which is very recent anyway.

Of course, a user with a US/UK locale will probably not understand the need
because the decimal character is mantained.

Best regards,

Luís Neves

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 70317] New: FORMATTING: Awkward kerning of first word in a justified paragraph before an italicised text

2013-10-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70317

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 70317
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FORMATTING: Awkward kerning of first word in a
justified paragraph before an italicised text
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Mac OS X (All)
  Reporter: alessandro.br...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.1.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 87337
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=87337action=edit
An example where the error occurs.

Problem description:
If I write a sentence of more than one line, where the first word is short
(e.g. two letters) and then follows an italicised block, and the paragraph is
justified, the spacing between the letters of the first word is too wide.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Write a paragraph of more than one line, beginning with a short word and
possibly long words at the end of the line to intensify the effect of
justification.
2. Justify the paragraph and italicise the first few words starting from the
second.

Current behavior:
Letters of first word are spaced too widely.

Expected behavior:
Normal spacing like in the rest of the paragraph.

Hi,
The increase of the file size is because LO embeds all used fonts into the
document. In order to disable this feature you should go to
File-Properties...-Font, and uncheck 'Embed fonts in the document'. You
should repeat it for every affected document.

The reason that this feature is activated for your document, is that you've
created the document in Word 2010 (as you have 'meta:user-defined
meta:name=AppVersion14./meta:user-defined' in meta.xml) and then
resaved to ODT format using LO. And seems like you have activated this feature
in the original Word document. But LO 4.0 didn't have that feature, so it
silently ignored it, and you got a smaller file.

Can't second that.
For example, in MS Word 2013, there are Screen Read Mode, Print Mode and Web
Layout.
Print Mode (like Print Layout in LO) shows number of pages and number of words.
Screen Read Mode shows number of screens. Web Layout shows number of words.
I suggest this be marked as WONT FIX.

--- Comment #1 from Maxim momonas...@gmail.com ---
Hi,
The problem is that your XML is missing encoding declaration (the first line
should look like ?xml version=1.0 encoding=ISO-8859-1?). After adding
that line, the file opens without any problem. The reason for such behavior is
that LibreOffice uses libxml2 library, which assumes UTF-8 or UTF-16 when there
isn't an encoding declaration, see
http://www.xmlsoft.org/encoding.html#implemente. So I'm afraid it's a WONTFIX,
but I can't speak for the developers, so I'll leave this bug open for now.

BTW Are you sure that it opens in 4.1.1.2, as it won't open your file for me.
Also tried with 4.0.5, 3.6.7, 3.5.7 with exactly the same results. Tested on
Windows 7 (32-bit).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 70324] New: FORMATTING: Left-to-right/right-to-left text direction not working

2013-10-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70324

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 70324
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
   Summary: FORMATTING: Left-to-right/right-to-left text direction
not working
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: 9fcf0...@opayq.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.1.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:
The Left-to-Right and Right-To-Left text direction buttons do not appear in my
toolbar, despite the fact that I have them turned on. Furthermore, using the
shortcut key to use them does nothing. This is a problem since sometimes I
copy-paste text and it gets formatted automatically to be right-to-left, and
then I can't fix it.

Steps to reproduce:
I don't remember making any changes to my settings recently. I only recently
got Windows 8 and it is possible that it never worked on this computer, but I
know for certain it had been working on my previous computer running Windows
Vista.

Current behavior:
No icons appear in the formatting menu and the shortcuts don't work.

Expected behavior:
Icons should show up in the formatting menu and the shortcuts should work.
Operating System: Windows 8
Version: 4.1.1.2 release

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 58086] FILESAVE: Some footnotes lost after filesave to docx

2013-10-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58086

As noted in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64026#c16, there seem
to have been some changes here.
Anyway, problem NOT reproducible with LO 4.1.2 on Windows. All 554 footnotes
present.

Opening of converted docx is terribly slow in LO, or it just hangs. I write
that in Bug 59918.

Concerning the problem that the conversion process spoils footnote numeration
to restart at every chapter LO supports footnotes to restart at every chapter
(apart from end of page and end of document), while MS Office 2013 doesn't.
I cannot open the new docx with Word, to verify that the numbers of footnotes
do not start over per chapter.
The same docx opened with LibreOffice shows the numbers of footnotes DON'T
start over at new chapter.
I don't know whether it's supported at all in docx, but it seems that neither
LO nor MS support the restart at the new chapter in docx.

trying this with the Form Controls in Writer...

checkbox can't be clicked in any 4.0.x release

up to 4.0.2.2 had Link un-checked

from 4.0.3.3 on the Link is checked - which i agree is a much worse default

interestingly on the 3.6 branch checkbox was clickable
in 3.6.0.4 and 3.6.1.2 but not in 3.6.2.2 and later

Could it be you meant another bug?
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68657 is about checkboxes, which
doesn't work any more together with a char-field in the database.
This bug is about pictures on buttons, which couldn't be embedded.

nope i don't mean checkbox form controls,
i mean the Link checkbox in the Graphics file dialog

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 43008] Calc Editing: With entire column selected, pasting into the column causes hang

2013-10-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon

This is a serious bug that is reproducible in Openoffice, Libreoffice, and
Neoffice, on my Macbook Pro, 10.8.5. Basically makes the spreadsheet
application of these MS Office alternatives useless.

(In reply to comment #6)
Lost my work by crashing LibreOffice calc.
Closing in Gnome does not work, soffice keeps running.
Had to kill soffice in the terminal.

 Steps to reproduce:

 - type something in A1
 - type soemthing in A2
 - select A1..A2
 - copy
 - click on column B by accident instead of selecting B1
 - paste: memory usage rises, program hangs, work lost.

Talked to colleagues about this, they also experienced this too many times.
They are now using Microsoft Excel, because of this (and also because of the
too low maximum amount of columns possible).

 Mission critical.
 Fix it or disable it!
