I too have the same problem since I work with Winodws8. Unchanged documents
open en close fine. After editing the file saves fine, but Writer then freezes
for about a minute and in the title bar it says 'writer is not responding'.
After that it takes longer to open the file too.

I kind of feel the ComboBox itself should be
larger rather the adjust the subedit within it

Yeah, indeed. And I have no idea why Combobox doesn't request a native height.

Samuel, your second patch makes sense, but instead of the hardcoded height I
would just reuse this branch:

 if( (nType == CTRL_EDITBOX || nType == CTRL_SPINBOX)  nPart ==
PART_ENTIRE_CONTROL )

When a new chart needs to be created it always starts up with the default
and hast to tune to the personal or company format needs.

You can copykpaste an existing one often and then drag a new data-range to it.

Nevertheless: a very useful enhancement request!

Cheers,
Cor

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 39971] Indian languages not listed in the languages combobox in font styles

Version|4.0.0.0.alpha0+ Master |(See in Summary)

--- Comment #12 from Shriramana Sharma samj...@gmail.com ---
[By error, the first few lines of this post was included as a separate comment.
Sorry for that.]

Looks like I myself had formerly reported this against OOo 2.4.0
(https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=87484) and they just closed it
as IRREPRODUCIBLE -- I suppose that means something like WORKSFORME. Now I
don't care to follow-up the bug on the OOo tracker -- it's LibO for me all the
way.

So I'll just clarify the bug here.

If you have some text, Format Menu or right click Character Font Language
should give you the language tag to apply to the text. Currently, in this
combobox, Indian languages are not mentioned.

Note that this also applies to Styles and Formatting Default Style (or any
style) Right-click Modify Font Language.

While Tools Language For Selection/Paragraph/All Text seems to list some
known languages corresponding to the script of the selected text, if the
required language is not visible in this and we click More, from For
Selection/Paragraph we are taken to the same Font dialog which again does not
provide the Indian languages.

OTOH from For All Text we are taken to the Tools Options Language
Settings Languages where we are apparently allowed to select the Default
language for documents.

Under this there are three comboboxes -- Western, Asian and CTL. I am not
sure what is the rationale between the separation of Asian vs CTL -- both
Asian and non-Asian scripts require CTL IIUC. And the Asian and CTL comboboxes
are disabled in the absence of any language packs.

As Steve says if I install any one language pack (to be precise, at least the
libobasis4._-__ package) for an Indian language (I tried Tamil and he tried
Hindi so I guess the rest would be same too) the CTL combobox in the Tools
Options dialogue gets enabled and also the font dialog is upgraded to show a
separate Western text font from a CTL font, in which the combobox providing
the language of the CTL font includes names of Indian languages. Still the
combobox for the Western text font does not provide the names of Indian
languages.

The whole Western text font vs CTL font is a quite silly segregation -- I am
not sure what it is in aid of. It seems to be copied from Microsoft Office.
Even when I was using MS Office 2003 I used to either remove all langpacks so
this extra field gets removed or otherwise I had to bear the burden of
specifying my desired font twice. Lots of fonts (Sanskrit 2003 is an excellent
example for Devanagari, and of course the FreeFont family for all Indic scripts
and more) provide for both English/European and Indic, especially because lots
of people who write about Indian literature etc would like to seamlessly switch
between the two scripts. In this situation, what is the big usefulness in
providing the Western text font vs CTL font bifurcation? I don't see the
point in marking the same span of text with two fonts while only one is
actually going to be used in the end at one time. If a font doesn't provide for
two scripts, it is not a big deal to switch between fonts for the respective
text spans. For instance, if one were to switch between Latin and Cyrillic
where (assuming) the default font one uses for Latin doesn't provide for
Cyrillic text, one has to switch anyway. How is the Western vs CTL
situation any different?

If at all one wishes to provide per-script font selection capability, one
should go the full way through and do something like Firefox, which provides
for font selection per script -- not some developer-imposed segregation between
Western and CTL scripts.

Next, why should I be required to install a langpack to get the list of full
languages? I have never used the LibO interface in any language other than
English but I heavily use LibO to input Indian language text -- why is the one
connected to the other?

Further, note that ISO 15919 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_15919) is an
international standard which permits the transliteration of Indian script text
into Latin script extended with diacritics. This is widely used by scholars who
aren't necessarily Indians and who can't even read the native Indian scripts to
store, quote and research texts written in Indic languages. In this case the
script is a Western script but the language is an Indian language. So why the
unnecessary connection between script and language? Let the software not try to
be more intelligent than the user! And let us not have blind imitation of
Microsoft Office idiosyncrasies in LibO.

I like LibO very much and wish to see it improve. Hence I have made the above
frank comments re the current situation. Please do not take them amiss.

Those languages uses their own script and their own fonts which are not
applicable to normal text. Therefore there are 2 fonts.

Excuse me -- did you read my detailed report? And by your wording fonts which
are not applicable to *normal* text do you mean to imply that the text I am
typing in LibO in an Indian language in an Indian script is not normal
text? From where do you get that? This is a viewpoint so skewed and biased
towards users who have never had cause to use other than the Latin script that
I am quite *un*pleasantly surprised to see that it would be practised in a
global project such as LO.

My points:

1) a user need not install a language pack to type text in that language/script

- hence the full language list should always be provided in the font dialog
irrespective of whether an Indic language pack is installed or not

2) the Western vs Asian vs CTL segregation of fonts is skewed and outdated

- whether an Indic language pack is installed or not, there should be only one
font family/style/size/language combination selectable for a given span of text

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 63546] EDITING:In Calc when writing direction of cell is changed to RTL, text remains left-aligned.

2013-11-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63546

(In reply to comment #23)
As lined out in comment 17 the patches solved this in 4.1.x by applying
hard left/right alignment attributes to all cells. You don't notice much
wrong when clicking RTL writing direction on a selected range that
previously didn't have a specific alignment, but if you select a range that
includes not only text cells but also value cells and click LTR you'll
notice immediately that then also value cells get left aligned, which most
certainly is not wanted. Furthermore, applying these hard attributes
overrides alignment originating from cell styles, even if that style already
said the cell should be right aligned (for RTL), so modifying the alignment
in the cell style will not have any effect anymore.

Currently this bug #63546 Description says:
EDITING:In Calc when writing direction of cell is changed to RTL, text
remains left-aligned.

so that's what I was mainly testing and reporting (i.e. text in cells, apply
RTL direction, check whether the text remains left-aligned.

@Eike Rathke, I now understand what you are saying, and it may affect prior
patches related to this bug report too; it was just not matching the current
Description, so I was missing your point.

Thank you and Regards,
Ady.

Indeed, LO calls PDF viewer before the file is actually created. It's even
worse - LO first creates the pdf as a temp file, then it copies it to a second
temp file (and then attempts to open the file with the final path - which is
still not created) and only afterwards copies it to the final path. I thinks
that it doesn't make trouble on Linux, as launching the PDF viewer takes time,
so LO has a chance to write the file. But on Windows the ShellExecute* function
fails when the file doesn't exist, and it's not starting the PDF viewer at all.

 the names of Indian languages.

The whole Western text font vs CTL font is a quite silly segregation -- I am
not sure what it is in aid of. It seems to be copied from Microsoft Office.
Even when I was using MS Office 2003 I used to either remove all langpacks
so this extra field gets removed or otherwise I had to bear the burden of
specifying my desired font twice. Lots of fonts (Sanskrit 2003 is an
excellent example for Devanagari, and of course the FreeFont family for all
Indic scripts and more) provide for both English/European and Indic,
especially because lots of people who write about Indian literature etc
would like to seamlessly switch between the two scripts. In this situation,
what is the big usefulness in providing the Western text font vs CTL
font bifurcation? I don't see the point in marking the same span of text
with two fonts while only one is actually going to be used in the end at one
time. If a font doesn't provide for two scripts, it is not a big deal to
switch between fonts for the respective text spans. For instance, if one
were to switch between Latin and Cyrillic where (assuming) the default font
one uses for Latin doesn't provide for Cyrillic text, one has to switch
anyway. How is the Western vs CTL situation any different?

While I basically agree, this “segregation” is embedded in the office document
formats as well as the UI of other popular office suites (as you noted). You
can select the same font for all three categories and still be able to use
different language settings for each which would allow you to utilize
locale-specific features in the font, which I think is a good thing (what I
actually don’t like about this, is just three categories, why I can’t select
specific font settings for every script). Manually changing the font for
different text spans is the antipattern of properly styling the text, we should
help avoid it not force it even more.

If at all one wishes to provide per-script font selection capability, one
should go the full way through and do something like Firefox, which provides
for font selection per script -- not some developer-imposed segregation
 between Western and CTL scripts.

I fully agree, but I’m not sure how can this be reflected in the file formats
we use (not that I know much about them), but again please open a separate bug
for this.

Next, why should I be required to install a langpack to get the list of full
languages? I have never used the LibO interface in any language other than
English but I heavily use LibO to input Indian language text -- why is the
 one connected to the other?

I was trying to find a fault elsewhere, and thought I would try Xray for
looking at objects, having previously used Mri.

In almost every case I have tried I get much the same crash as for this report
on excuting the Xray line.

It looks to me as if the this is a bug in the handling of drawing or re-drawing
forms.

Because of this problem I am busy trying to re-engineer how I perform certain
actions in my application so as avoid this problem. Not knowing what causes
the problem is in any detail means this I have to do this by pot luck. This is
very time consuming and frustrating, to say the least.

I do not understand, what you want to do. The upper text belongs to the
custom-shape. It is a common property of all shapes, that they can have a text.
Rectangles, Ovals, Arrows, even images, all of them can have a text.

There is no way to convert something into a text-box or into a custom-shape.
You can only convert something into a curve or into a polygon or group of
curves or group of polygons.

The last elements of the AOO \winaccessibility IAccessible2 implementation have
received ALv2 licensing annotation with rev 1536599 (
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revisionsortby=daterevision=1536599 ) as
the ia2 branch is being prepared to merge with AOO trunk for a 4.1 release.

This should allow LibreOffice review and possible adoption of the IBM
contributed implementation of the IAccessibile2 IDL for use as a native bridge
between the UNO Accessibility API and AT on Windows clients.

This is good news as we've been waiting for this for a while. Just hope someone
has the energy to migrate the svn branch to git and start the process.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 70857] Long time delay for formating window popup when enable zh_cn langpack

2013-11-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Today I tested in Ubuntu 13.04 X64 and the same behaviour happen, so not a
ubuntu 13.10 or an x86 only issue.

Two reports in the database. The report with a chart let LO crash immediately.

Open the attached Database.
There are two reports in this database. One Report with a chart, the other
(same content) without a chart.
When trying to open the report with the chart LO since 4.2 crashes immediately.
When opening the same report without a chart it works well.

I have tried this with many different reports - all reports with charts fail
and let LO 4.2 crash immediately. It isn't possible to edit such a report in LO
4.2 - it produces the same crash.

Then I tried to create a new report in LO 4.2 with a chart. The creation works,
but the first start of the report let LO crash immediately.

In this sheet I invert Modular Matrix, for testing Python implementantion of
algorithms

=RESIDUO(5310866044487,128) gives a result of 70.9970703125 instead of 71
and in AL74 gives a result of 26.984375 instead of 27 also in see AL55 in
attached file.

AQ gives the correct result 37

(these are modular functions, that has no fractional part)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71133] New: FILESAVE: Footer: problem with alignment

2013-11-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Summary: FILESAVE: Footer: problem with alignment
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: hl2mappe...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.2.3 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

LibreOffice don't save a footer's alignment correctly.
I've created a document with a footers. Then I went to Format – Page – Footer
and disabled “same content left/right”.
On the odd pages a footer was aligned right, and on the even ones it was
aligned left.
When I saved a document, closed and reopened it, both odd and even pages
footers were aligned right. I tried to reproduce it for many times and every
time I had the same result.

P.S. By the way, if both odd and even footers align center, the document saves
and opens correctly.

this issue seems minor since it doesn't affect productivity and is just a
matter of aesthetics... however I feel that this ugly about logo could be used
against the LibO project to discredit the quality of the project.

I know that you should not judge a book by it's cover, but I think action must
be taken before someone uses this to accuse LibO of being a buggy software...

I mean, somebody could argue that LibO comes out with a scrambled about box,
would you dare compose your documents with such a software?

so I'm thinking if we should give this bug a MAB status.

CCing Joel about this.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71075] chart mangling on paste

2013-11-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71075

--- Comment #5 from Michael Meeks michael.me...@collabora.com ---
Hi Markus, it looks like this may be related to:

commit 14fa5488a829936275f79a7693b13da55114220e
Author: Markus Mohrhard markus.mohrh...@googlemail.com
Date: Sun Jun 30 03:44:05 2013 +0200

transpose data in rows ranges for internal data provider, fdo#62057

This is an ugly hack but it at least works. This regression has been
introduced by the merge from the AOO code. The order of calls during
import is totally screwed and I have no idea how to properly fix all
these problems without introducing new regressions.

:-) this also appears to break (quite badly) not just paste but importing those
sheets too ...
