 Problem description:

Trying to run a slideshow with multiple displays causes a segfault in
Impress. I'm running Arch Linux with xmonad 0.11 as the window manager.
Changing the window manager makes the problem go away.

Changing the window manager to what? We detect various desktop environments and
select an appropriate VCL plugin for them. xmonad is probably using the gen
plugin (generic X). Change of WM could mean that, e.g., gtk is used instead.
So if the crash is in the plugin (most probably), it would of course go away.
Alternatively, can you still reproduce it by running

SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen soffice

from the command line?

Both exports (doc and docx) could not handle this. In both cases the first

reason for the 7 cm header-space on page two.

Am I wrong to think that we've seen about a hundred reports for this in
OpenOffice and LibreOffice over the past years, or is it really new?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 84350] Creation of a shapes drop down group button

2014-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84350

--- Comment #8 from Owen Genat owen.ge...@gmail.com ---
Jay I think the problem you are going to have with this enhancement is that it
will depend on changing a few other UX aspects. Of all the large
drop-down-style examples, only that of Word 2013 offers the same level of
convenience to what the Drawing toolbar in LO currently offers. I would
certainly not want to draw anything elaborate or large with a single-group
drop-down as the amount of clicking would be excessive.

For example, by default, the Basic Shape group displays the Diamond, however I
can select Hexagon, which changes the displayed shape for that group. I can
then draw multiple hexagons fairly quickly and easily, via a series of
single-click selections. I can simultaneously do the same for any group, thus
having the desired Block Arrow, Callout, Flowchart, or object from another
group, should I choose to expose these.

With the Word 2013 arrangement each selected shape is moved to the Recent Used
Shapes area at the head of the drop-down (or bottom of pop-up if the toolbar
appears at the screen bottom). That is pseudo-convenient as it still requires
hunting for the required icon each and every time.

(In reply to comment #5)
If you really want to show them all at once, why not extend the already
 existing pane in the sidebar?

I can see how the proposed enhancement reduces the need for an entire dedicated
Drawing toolbar. However I tend to agree with this comment by Regina that the
effort would be better spent creating a new pane in the sidebar and then
changing View Toolbar Drawing to expose this pane. This is similar to the
recent change with regard to the Styles and Formatting toolbar.

Good Morning :)
@Michael Meeks, Joel Madero and everyone else who felt me being rude or
disrespectful yesterday: I'm very sorry, that my posts were received that way,
that was not my intention. I absolutely have the highest respect of any LibO
contributor and the spare-time many of them bring into the project.

As requested by Michael Meeks, I just uploadet a WinDbg Result (don't know if
this is what's called a stack trace?). I hope a developer can see more
information in it then me, because to me it seems its missing any vital
information. Problem is, that actually LibO is NOT crashing, but unresponsive.
It uses almost no CPU Cycles, so I guess its waiting for something that's not
happening.

I also have memory dumps of soffice.bin (214MB) and soffice.exe (35MB) that
were made with the hanging LibO. If this is of help to a developer, I can
upload it to my ftp and share the URL with a developer over PM (don't want to
make full memory-dumps public, due to privacy).

I tend to agree with this comment by Regina that the effort would be better
spent creating a new pane in the sidebar and then changing View Toolbar
Drawing to expose this pane. This is similar to the recent change with regard
to the Styles and Formatting toolbar.

Note that, when using Draw extensively, one needs all three toolbars at once:
the drawing toolbar, the Navigator toolbar and the Stylist toolbar. To me, the
idea of mixing several of these within the Sidebar, typically, the Stylist and
the Drawing toobars -- as it seems a given that the Navigator will remain
stand-alone -- would interfere with this workflow.

As the Sidebar is taking more and more importance -- being soon the
one-size-fits-all toolbar -- it is important to power users to be able to get
to the proper Sidebar pane with as few clicks as possible (to power users,
clicking is evil ;).
Thus, it would be very useful to have keyboard shortcuts dedicated to open each
Sidebar panel. At least, having a keyboard shortcut to browse the panels would
be fine.

--- Comment #64 from Michael Meeks michael.me...@collabora.com ---
Hi there; thanks so much for the trace :-)

As requested by Michael Meeks, I just uploadet a WinDbg Result (don't know
if this is what's called a stack trace?). I hope a developer can see
more information in it then me, because to me it seems its missing any
 vital information.

So - this is tantelising =) you attached the debugger, got to the point that
you could ask for a stack trace, and then continued ;-) you need to type:

~* k

At least I think so by reading:
http://briolidz.wordpress.com/2013/11/17/windbg-some-debugging-commands/

Thanks !

Seems like I managed to solve my problems with the File menu. It was the recent
document list. It had stored a networked document on the list, and it looks
like it was searching for it. So when I cleared that list, the wait
disappeared.

 Hello Kolbjorn,

Thank you for reporting the bug. I am unable to reproduce it with any of the
more recent builds of libreoffice. Can you please check if you can still
reproduce this with 4.3.2, and if so, please let me know. It would also be
good if you could send in a screencast of this, so i can better see where i
may have gone wrong with your instructions.

The error is not showing up in version 4.3.1.2. At last I am not able to
reproduce it. It now looks just as I wanted it to do.
Perhaps this was a temporary error in the beta version or a local error in my
installation? I do not have the v. 4.3.0.0 version anymore and am not able to
verify this.
Thank you for using your time on this.

TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2014-09-24_00:45:04

I substituted the empty (linked) images with solid color ones to help clarify
the situation.

I noticed the upper green rectangle went under the red one, when I did the
initial deconstruction, but after I did right-click, Arrange - Bring to front,
I didn't manage to make it go under the red one again. I tried printing to PDF
and exporting to PDF, but nothing would make it go under.

Can you try to reproduce with my test case or try and create a better test

Thanks for looking into this problem. It did not occur in 4.2.4.2. If I open

is visible, whereas if opened with 4.3.2.2, it is not visible.

Version of LibreOffice: 4.2.1 or 4.3.2

Language of Operating System: Chinese (traditional)

It seems that LibroOffice 4.X has difficulty displaying the
unicode music flat sign. I sometimes happens, but not always,
even in the same document, or be displayed as a rectangle
when on a different computer.

If it does not happen on an English (or Latin-based)
operating system, try Chinese (traditional).

Fonts:

1. Times New Roman font.
2. Chinese MingLiU 細明體 font.

When:

1. Plain display on computer screen.
2. Export to PDF.

Now I am back to LibroOffice 3.6.2.
In 3.6.2, the unicode music flat sign is displayed with a much
wider look. It may have taken its width from a Chinese character.
However, all unicode music flat signs are displayed and exported to PDF
properly.

Thanks.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 72424] Writer document re-calculates spread of long table on opening, changing number of pages

2014-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72424

--- Comment #19 from Owen Genat owen.ge...@gmail.com ---
(In reply to comment #17)
Maybe I missed something, but the document refuses to rest... Now 43 pages
 become 48.

Same problems I mentioned last time, with the exception of the page margins.
The font size has been increased (from 10 pt) to 12 pt, thus the length (once
calculated) is now 48 pages. This has to be determined by the rendering engine
(by reading through the entire content) as it is not stored in the document.
This is normal, as the following hopefully explains.

(In reply to comment #18)
My thinking is that, ... the layout of a particular ODT is roughly
 deterministic. Or it should be.

I am not one for analogies, but here goes ... There is a difference in
computational performance when reading from disk/memory in random-sized chunks
vs reading in consistent block sizes that match the handling ability of the
operating system. As is always the case with computers, knowing the magic
numbers usually helps with performance (and sometimes stability). On-screen
rendering is the same, it is just that the magic numbers are the derivative of
400 years of typesetting.

Unfortunately, that history is now largely discarded/forgotten, as evidenced by
the Design team's recent reworking of the default Writer template. Proportional
measures, mismatched sizings, keep-with-next/orphan/widow and similar auto-
settings, as well as many other subtle/hidden settings such as table spacing,
all come at a cost. In simple terms, the rendering engine has more work to do,
particularly if direct formatting is used in an ad hoc manner. This is one
reason why I would never use the default settings (template) provided with LO,
in situations where layout is important.

By contrast, a single page style with *exactly* calculated / matching margins,
head/foot area, footnotes, text lines, table spacing, et al. is much simpler
for the rendering engine to handle and more likely to produce a consistent
result as there is minimal variance. The stability in the example I provided
was not by chance. We could create a template using these types of figures, but
the problem is it varies according to the number of required heading levels
i.e., in order to know how far up the point scale the headings go. This is the
nature of typesetting.

I have seen most versions of MS Word behave in the same manner as reported here
(for the same reasons). I honestly do not believe there is any effective way
around the problem reported here, other than what I have tried (in limited
manner) to illustrate.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 73049] FILEOPEN Huge memory use on opening specific complex ods spreadsheets with array functions

2014-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73049

(In reply to comment #25)
I tried to open the problematic file
 (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bxv4jQ_04jXZaVR2ZHZGR0JLVFE/
edit?usp=sharing) on 64 bit Lubuntu 14.04 loaded from USB stick. Loading
time is a bit longer on 64 bit system (about 70 sec. and 50 sec with
Libreoffice 4.3.2.2, 8 GB RAM and 2 x 1,6 GHz CPU), but probably it is
because the system is loaded from USB stick.

Installed fresh 64 bit Ubuntu 14.04 on that machine and got the same results,
about 1 minute to open complex calc file with 4.2.6, respectively there are no
difference between 32 and 64 bit versions on that particular machine.

PPTX created in LOv4263 with superscript: open in PowerPoint to reveal problem

Thanks for reporting this issue. Confirmed under GNU/Linux using:

v4.2.6.3 Build ID: 3fd416d4c6db7d3204c17ce57a1d70f6e531ee21
v4.3.2.2 Build ID: edfb5295ba211bd31ad47d0bad0118690f76407d

... and under Win7HP using MSO2007. In a presentation saved as PPTX superscript
characters in either the slide title, slide text, or a list item are rendered
too high, when opened by MSO2007.

(In reply to comment #0)
When a .pptx is created in powerpoint and opened in Libre, the immediate line
following a superscript for a date is also converted to superscript.

Please report this issue in a separate bug report as this deals with a
PowerPoint-generated file.

--- Comment #2 from Owen Genat owen.ge...@gmail.com ---
As per comment 1 status set to NEW. Also tested under GNU/Linux using:

v3.3.4.1 OOO330m19 Build: 401
v3.4.6.2 OOO340m1 Build: 602

It appears that superscript characters were not supported at all in v3.3-3.5
(content fails to display), in v3.6-4.0 the characters are not set in
superscript, and in v4.1, v4.2, and v4.3 they are displayed too high.

--- Comment #3 from Matthew Francis fdb...@neosheffield.co.uk ---
Rendering in Linux (on a recently build 4.4 master) is essentially identical to
the Windows screenshot - I think that serves well enough as a reference of
correct behaviour already.

It's exactly the text funkiness you mention that's the problem, if that wasn't
clear. At the angle shown in the linked presentation, the text renders
incorrectly, but if you then set it to exactly 90 degrees the problem is no
longer evident.

None of a selection of past binaries between 4.0.0.3 and 4.2.5.2 showed the
same issue, so this is actually a comparatively recent regression.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 84502] Add shortcut keys to each Sidebar Tab to open its content panel(s)

--- Comment #1 from V Stuart Foote vstuart.fo...@utsa.edu ---
Direct keyboard accelerator assignments are overdue, F6 cycling is functional
but too cumbersome.

Accelerator key assignment(s) would be to the on-click action for each Tab item
in the Sidebar's Tab bar and would result in opening, or shift-to, its
corresponding Content panel(s) in the Sidebar Deck.

Option Fit text to contour in Impress causes text to appear somewhere else.
In old presentations text disappears completely - this is why I've assigned
critical attribute. In freshly edited text boxes text appears outside the
shape!
This bug is not only annoying but compromising as well.

--- Comment #2 from GerardF gerard.farg...@orange.fr ---
BIN2DEC have the same limitation in Excel too.
ODF specifications have also the same limitation.
I don't know why this limit.

You can use DECIMAL function in replacement of (whatever)2DEC which have higher
limits or BASE for DEC2(whatever).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 84508] New: EDITING: Copy Paste into the whole row breaks calc

2014-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84508

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 84508
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: EDITING: Copy Paste into the whole row breaks calc
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: clin...@midlandsit.co.za
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.5.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new spreadsheet
2. Create 5 rows of data in 1 column
3. Copy the 5 rows in the 1 column
4. Select the column header to highlight the entire column
5. Paste

Current behavior:
Freezes and has to be forced close

Expected behavior:
Paste to a default point so that it does not endlessly keep pasting if entire
column is accidentally pasted into. Maybe paste up to the end of the printable
page, or end of where the last row of data in the all columns. Just some ideas.

Operating System: Linux (Other)
