[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 82547] Main drop down menu freezes libreoffice and whole system

I can observe the same symptoms on my system:

System: Ubuntu 14.04.1, x64, up-to-date
Processor: Intel Xeon E3-1275 v3
RAM: 32GB

LibreOffice version: 4.2.7.2

Most of the recent documents were located on a Samba server (mounted with
mount.cifs, not using GVFS). In my case the file server is accessed directly
over local gigabit ethernet, not using VPN.

I had a small, simple document open in Writer (5-6 pages, almost only regular
text), and when jumping around the document there was very noticeable
stuttering. Each pause was well under a second long, but it happened regularly
enough (roughly every 5-10 seconds) that it was quite unpleasant to try
working.

When i fired up Wireshark, I observed SMB traffic corresponding to the
stuttering/pauses. The packet capture showed that all the documents in the
Recent Documents list were accessed when I jumped around in the open document
(page up / page down; no editing or saving/loading). With 25 recent documents
and each document being 5-10 levels deep into a directory structure, that's a
lot of networked stat calls.

If I let Writer sit still with no activity, there was no SMB traffic.

Setting the Recent Documents list size to 0 removed the stuttering and the SMB
traffic.

Is it necessary for LibreOffice to access all the Recent Documents files during
regular document editing? If there is a good reason, can it be made properly
asynchronous?

Marking this NEW again. Thanks for looking into this; I would like to be able
to enable recent documents again.

 Sanitized document for BUG87158

Hi Robinson,

Thanks for your quick answer! I don't know how to start LibreOffice from the
command line, can you please point me to the proper documentation?

Some additional information:
- I've uploaded a sanitized version of my drawing, but it's a sensitive
document, so I've removed a lot of items and expect the buggy one was not
removed in this process...
- Once all sensitive items were removed, I've saved the dwg with a new name...
and Draw immediately crashed!
- I'm using some custom fonts throughout the drawing (eurofurence bold): could
this be another reason for the weird behavior?

Thanks again for your help!

Best regards.

I tried F9 in the past without success, I didn't know that a hard recalc was

Markus - is it best to use a heuristic, or have a 'Value' vs.
 'Formula/Reference' type radio-button somewhere abouts ? =)

The problem with heuristics is that they are often buggy and are forgotten
during the next refactoring. I still would prefer to get to the point where we
remove the deprecated column/row labels and until then just provide a warning
message.

Another advantage of using the formula compiler is that it knows all corner
cases, and you can then operate just on tokens.

(In reply to Timur from comment #13)

Hi,

I had not seen what you wrote about 3.4 or 3.5 releases. So do not get too
hasty conclusions. Perhaps, now it is another bug.

It is a regression against OO from which LO comes. I think that you should not
edit the summary thus.

But you are right with your workaround :

Double-click on the object that opens itself in another window. Then copy-paste
this new object instead of the original object. Save on disk.
With LO 4.4 on Debian Linux, the reopen of this new file works fine.

So you are right : the bug is concerning NOW (with LO 4.3.4) the loading code.

Hi there

thanks for prompt reply; the problem is exactly that: in order to
sanitize the file while being sure not to break its contents I need to
install a 3.x OOo somewhere. Will do it as soon as I can, and will upload the
result.

With LibreOffice Version 4.3.4.1 the same behavior - draw and impress stuck in
loading. WinDbg will show anything usable if the LibreOffice process do not
crash but is stuck in loading?

I cant't reproduce that bug on my PC and the PC which are impacted by this bug
is in use, so I have limited time and access to that PCs.

Hi Cor

won't reopen this one for now; there were _a_lot_ of open issues regarding
object positioning: every single one could be the culprit, but many of them
have been resolved/fixed and my issue is still there. I will upload a sanitized

it...

I do not see the benefit of this. the more text we display, the less will be

I rather think, if anything happens here, this will be on LO's own bugzilla
when coming up with a concept to replace BSA with a system that's directly on

try a most recent 4.4.x daily build from here
 http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/libreoffice-4-4/
and copy and paste information about the build from help/anout LibO dev here.

Did that, and the problem seems fixed. To make absolutely sure I was using that
version I reinstalled the VM.

Working version:
Version: 4.4.0.0.beta2+
Build ID: 8cb37cc090f754c4dafe5731c827539f01743671
TinderBox: Win-x86@42, Branch:libreoffice-4-4, Time: 2014-12-09_04:54:46

Als rechecked this version:
Version: 4.4.0.0.beta2
Build ID: be92f32b8f21603a6b7a75dd645f7475bdee519d

And this seems to also work! So the report about 4.4 not working is probably
due to something I did wrong. Sorry, mea culpa!

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 87191] New: Encoding error when importing from old Word for Mac document

2014-12-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87191

Bug ID: 87191
Summary: Encoding error when importing from old Word for Mac
document
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 4.3.4.1 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: filters and storage
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: olivier.ber...@gmail.com

I recently received an old document typed on Word for Mac. Accented characters
got scrambled because they hadn't been converted from MacRoman to Unicode. I
have no idea whether there is anything like an encoding or charset
parameter in these old documents but I guess one can safely assume if it's from
Word for Mac, it would be encoded in MacRoman.

I am not sure if the help file line Additionally, the search vector for
the LOOKUP must be sorted ascending, ...
Possibly not a bug since if we do what is told in Help, sort ascending the
search range, it works as expected.

So I see a couple of possibilities here:
1) Make this an enhancement request to add support for negative criterion
2) Make this an enhancement request to the docs to explicitly preclude negative
criterion
3) Call the situation good enough and Resolve it as NOTABUG

Stephen: As the bug reporter, I'll let you decide which path to choose :-)

This as nothing to do with negative or positive (even number or text)
criterion.

LOOKUP use binary (dichotomic) search.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_search_algorithm
And for a binary search, search vector must be sorted in ascending order.

It is explicitely written in the help.

@Kendy, believe you tackled this with the commits Nov 4th.

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?id=5929a87b8137bf6326adfd4ddfd8075e585ae15cqt=rangeq=5929a87b8137bf6326adfd4ddfd8075e585ae15c..eca6f3056de43b2a74108f96df3b55633a486d0b

Other than the keyboard navigation in the dropdown (bug 87120), its good.

OK to close?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 87193] New: EDITING Paste special or Paste Only work only once

2014-12-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87193

Bug ID: 87193
Summary: EDITING Paste special or Paste Only work only once
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 4.3.4.1 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Spreadsheet
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: robert.wi...@gmx.co.uk

After copying one or several cells, they can be pasted only once using Paste
special... or Paste Only

Any further call to these paste operations open a dialog for pasting
Unformatted Text only. You have to copy the origin again for pasting again.
And again...

This isn't the case in LibreOffice 4.2.7.2, but in 4.3.4.1. Since the change
isn't an operational improvement, but an obstruction, it's a bug.

print in LibreOffice, is it under Calc, Writer ? Thanks - Sophie

the bugdoc has a text:table-of-content element inside text:index-body - how
the heck did we export that...

this is funny, we crash because of this:

commit bebf8ccfba37f77d6a43c7874249b31736467b17
Author: Jan Holesovsky ke...@suse.cz
AuthorDate: Fri Apr 12 13:06:52 2013 +0200

i#98430: Import at least the shape.

... which catches an exception, so the exception does not arrive in the
XMLIndexTOCContext and that does not see that the index is invalid and
continues to use it...

hmm if i import the .DOC with LO 4.3 and export it i get a text:section inside
the text:index-body, which is a bit less insane.

but there were several more problems with the attachments...

fixed on master.

I agree: This is no bug, it's just a little strange behaviour.

There is an option.calc.formular.formular syntax. If you set that to Excel A1
everything is fine!

In order to make life easy for compatibility, the options's default setting
could be changed accordingly...

Thanks for your quick answer redards,
fury

btw: Is there some compatibility sheet for LibreOffice in regard to Redmond's
suite which has recently been updated?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 87195] New: mailmerge: add image from url field (enhancement)

2014-12-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87195

Bug ID: 87195
Summary: mailmerge: add image from url field (enhancement)
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 4.2.7.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: ber...@hotmail.com

Please add ability to use mailmerge field as the address for an external image.

The field in data source could either be filename relatively to document export
location (in local file system), or full url (eg on the web).

possible scenario:
1. in writer document use insert image from file (click as link),
2. pick one sample file in intended directory for layout purposes
3. replace picture location (right click on picture Picture Picture tab
Link) with the field name in data source, eg illustration_url, or full field
name (displayed via CTRL+F9), eg datasource.datatable.attribute

That would be huge!

Example uses are to include a dynamic QRCode in a business card, or to generate
cards letters with different headers images for different departments / teams
/ persons... and many more uses not relating to mail merging but to using this
function as a user-friendly templating engine for partial data export.

related demands:
http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/9578/how-do-i-insert-a-picture-during-a-mail-merge/
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7t=14303
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=89804

how others do it for now (not always nice, but works)
http://www.gmayor.com/mail_merge_graphics.htm
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=73329

If it's not much more work it would be nice to handle the use of dynamic colors
in the same way: grab (openoffice) color name (or typically RGB code) from data
source, and be able to use it as a section/paragraph font or background color.
