Very handy for drawing schemes. I guess the reason why LWA exists in Draw and Impress is styles of graphical objects. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 60268] FORMATTING: Square root and cdot are not correct displayed under Windows 8
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60268 --- Comment #29 from Martin G. drmg...@freenet.de --- (In reply to Frédéric Wang from comment #28) My point is that the proper way to have your changes accepted by the LibreOffice reviewers is a patch that changes the text source OpenSymbol.sfd and regenerates the opens___.ttf I think my patch is more a work-around than the full solution. I felt that no one of the programmers is working on that bug because it is mentioned in several forums but without any progress. So I tried to check what's wrong with the font file and indeed fontforge shows a lot of errors when you validate the file, see https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15t=73057p=336508#p336622 . Then I looked for older versions and I found the very old version 1.7 to be Windows 8 compatible. Unfortunately this old version is lacking several glyphs (e. g. the up-right greek letters and the 'underbrace' as mentioned above). Therefore I used fontforge to copy the missing glyphs into that file but I don't think that I got all missing glyphs. For my documents it worked and as I saw from other forums for several other users it works, too. However, the right way for Open Office and Libre Office should be that the programmers who have a deep knowledge about true-type fonts (I don't have this knowledge) correct all the bugs in the current version (2.4.3) instead of doing the step back to version 1.7. But meanwhile my patch old version is better than no solution for Win 8 users. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89394] New: FILE MENU and HYPERLINKs: Freezes/hangs when insterting hyperlink or clickin File menu for the first time
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89394 Bug ID: 89394 Summary: FILE MENU and HYPERLINKs: Freezes/hangs when insterting hyperlink or clickin File menu for the first time Product: LibreOffice Version: 4.2.8.2 release Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Windows (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: medium Component: LibreOffice Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: sarentasci...@hotmail.com Samba files in registrymodifications.xcu causes hanging/freezing. First I realized, my LibreOffice applications hang, whenever I click File menu for the first time. This takes up to a minute and is really annoying. Second clicking does not cause any freezing/hanging. After a while I tried to insert a hyperlink in a Writer document. Following actions caused hanging/freezing repeatedly: opening Insert/Hyperlink from the menu typing in the target field in the hyperlink dialog (each key stroke!) Assumption: I have assumed that LibreOffice tried to reach a network location. I have previously worked several times on samba folders on different locations. These folders are disconnected during this behaviour. Solution: I found a solution about creating a new user profile and testing with folders from the old profile. So I replaced folders to see if these are the problem. Interestingly, none of the folders were cause of the problem but it was the registrymodifications.xcu file. I investigated the contents of this text/xml file. There I found many files on samba locations. One of those files was the one I used several weeks ago. Location was something like this: file://10.0.0.5/. One problem was that there is only two // instead of three /// like with other entries. I was not connected to this location during this behaviour. I removed this entry and restored old profile. So far there is no hanging/freezing. Therefore, I file this bug for the programmers, who might be interested in. I think the continous hanging/freezing in hyperlink dialog is abnormal. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 50299] MOD shows not existing, inconsistent, small remainder with calculated Dividend
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50299 --- Comment #27 from k...@cox.net --- (In reply to Jean-Baptiste Faure from comment #26) For me MOD() function should be used only with integers. With implementation in LibreOffice, and if you are sure that the dividende is integer, you can use an expression like =MOD(ROUND(0.9*100;0);10). I think it is a bad idea to generalize MOD() function to non-integer numbers. The bug is here. Best regards. JBF For you perhaps; but there are legitimate uses of MOD() that involve real numbers. Furthermore, the interim calculation performed by MOD() is expected to be a real number, because it it were not, the result of MOD() would always be zero. The problem being discussed here is not caused by the type of input, but by how the MOD() function, as implemented in LO (and all other Linux spreadsheets I have tried), deals with the facts that calculations performed by the spreadsheet are real number calculations, and their results are often inexact in the last three digits used. You appear to be saying that every use of MOD() should look like this: =MOD(ROUND([dividend],[n]),[divisor]) ...or... =MOD([dividend],ROUND([divisor],[n])) ...or... =MOD(ROUND([dividend],[n]),ROUND([divisor],[n])) ...instead of... =MOD([dividend],[divisor]) The LO implementation of the MOD() function appears to make the incorrect assumption that the interim results of its calculations can be used without regard to the fact that digital calculations with real number cause precision loss in the last 3 or 4 digits. As with human thought, incorrect assumptions can lead to wrong answers. Changing the instructions for using a function does not correct a bug. Users will not expect to have to read the instructions for every function they have used in Excel for years, before using them in LO (etc.). Programmers seem to not understand that the computer, and therefore the software, is supposed to allow the user to work efficiently. When software forces the user to work a certain way, the programmer is making the incorrect assumption that he/she knows the user's job as well as the user does. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89373] Strange behaviour of sum() function in linked or complex spreadsheet
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89373 k...@cox.net changed: What|Removed |Added Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED Resolution|DUPLICATE |--- Ever confirmed|0 |1 --- Comment #4 from k...@cox.net --- Andis' example is an excellent example of a real use of spreadsheets that most programmers don't understand and can't imagine. The SUM() bug is probably related to the same cause as bug 50299 (improper handling of significant digits in floating point calculations); however, if it is caused by something specifically in the implementation of the SUM() function, then its correction in the MOD() (and DATE()) functions will not correct it in the SUM() function. You are fortunate; you noticed that the answers were incorrect. Since I noticed the related problem with the MOD() and DATE() functions, I have returned to using Excel and am warning people that they could get unpleasant surprises if they use these functions in open source spreadsheets. As I commented on 50299, engineers, doctors and accountants cannot use spreadsheets that give random incorrect answers when used as they would normally be expected to be used. Does the problem still exist if the links in B3:BJ16 to values calculated in another document are replaced with links to values calculated in another worksheet in the example document? If so, you would be able to provide an example that shows the problem. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89373 --- Comment #6 from andis.lazd...@gmail.com --- Hello! It's funny, but when I tried to reconstruct formulas in example file using another worksheet instead of linked file, I was able to repeat the error. Result of the experiments is attached to the bug report. It is interesting, that some values are causing error (220, 945) and some values are calculated as they should be (375). No problems found in version 4.3.6.2. So there is working example of the problem. Regarding use of Libreoffice in complex calculations. I would say, that it is much, much better than excel, when there is need to use lot of sumif(), lookup(), hlookup() and other array functions. Statistical functions like ttest() are not limited to equal number of values in compared ranges and so on. I can't imagine returning to Excel now; the worst case would be returning to openoffice.org, which is much better and faster with large data ranges, because CPU use is another madness introduced somewhere with 3.5.x version. Some time ago there was something wrong with calculations in pivot tables and since that I'm always checking results of calculations. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89401] FILEOPEN: Loading 200MB+ .doc at first took extremely long and is now obviously trashing
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89401 --- Comment #5 from Jouni Järvinen jounijar...@gmail.com --- (In reply to Joel Madero from comment #4) So - I haven't confirmed this bug yet (my system is occupied) but I can say that this is an extreme corner case and unlikely to ever be fixed. How do you monitor how many megs are loaded? Also how long does the file take to open - not enough to say extremely long time That being said - I'll try to find time to confirm it so at least it gets to NEW status. 30min+ for every tested program. I monitor with Task Manager. First time I tried, .bin used between 100-320MB RAM, shifting between until it stopped to like 220MB and obviously started trashing minutes later. Wordpad shifted too, but nowhere as much before settling to around 100MB. Granted, I have no clue, not even guesses, what Office can open, but if it can't handle this either, even if it was real text instead of an unusual database backup, LO would get a foothold by supporting up until to 2GB on 32-bit Win, or even multiple 2GB processes. It's not a matter of a corner case, it's a matter of program not allowing to do what it should. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89403] New: Some enhancements for creative writing
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89403 Bug ID: 89403 Summary: Some enhancements for creative writing Product: LibreOffice Version: unspecified Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Windows (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: medium Component: Writer Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: apeterson.write...@gmail.com I would like to make a suggestion for LibreOffice Writer to enhance its use for creative writing. Borrowing an idea from programs like Scrivener and WriteMonkey, it would be nice to have some sort of plain text notepad extension that would be connected with certain portions of the main body, rather than just specific words like the comments feature. Maybe make it possible to have plain text docs connected to different headings or subgroupings of text in the main body of the document. In addition, these plain text notes would be in a window that would be more customizable than the current comments feature. This would be useful to creative writers such as myself because I like the idea of taking various notes for different sections and subsections of projects such as a novel or article that I am working on and having those notes connected with the main body of my text. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50299 --- Comment #28 from Robinson Tryon (qubit) qu...@runcibility.com --- (In reply to klsu from comment #27) Changing the instructions for using a function does not correct a bug. Users will not expect to have to read the instructions for every function they have used in Excel for years, before using them in LO (etc.). Specifically on this point, I'd say that LibreOffice is not Excel. If there are compelling mathematical reasons to implement a function or a feature in a similar fashion to another piece of software (e.g. Excel, Abiword, Sage, etc..), then I think it's valuable for us to consider it, but sometimes Excel is just wrong (Classic example: the '1900' leap-year bug). Programmers seem to not understand that the computer, and therefore the software, is supposed to allow the user to work efficiently. When software forces the user to work a certain way, the programmer is making the incorrect assumption that he/she knows the user's job as well as the user does. One potential use-case for Calc would be as a generic tool for numerical computation (with the modulus function operating without the limitations described above). I don't think that the Calc developers currently see that as a primary goal of the software, so if there is a disconnect between their view of the tool and how our users see it, perhaps we need to sit down and figure out how to reconcile these two groups. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69066 --- Comment #36 from Robinson Tryon (qubit) qu...@runcibility.com --- (In reply to Luuk from comment #35) It might be wise to add some info to this bug. Definitely! Simply closing because this bug is open for 1 year and 5 month without any progress is a bit odd for developers who want to make a good product. But that's not what people are saying... (In reply to Kumāra from comment #33) I've not seen this bug for a while. In my last installation, I'm certain that I had thumbnails on. Anyone faced this bug in recent versions? (In reply to Michael Bauer from comment #34) I've not had it for a few versions either. Perhaps close it for now? The reason why we spend time on bug reports is so that developers can identify and fix bugs in LibreOffice. If we can't reproduce the problem in a modern version of LibreOffice or on a modern operating system, then a bug report is just a historical record. (I'm aware of the fact that I did not put much info in my bug report, but I don't know how to get more info when this sort of thing happens) It looks like the last confirmation of this report was a year ago to the day, and in fact the devs are suspicious that said report (comment 16) is even talking about the same bug. It would be great if someone could try to reproduce this problem using a 4.4 or 4.5 build. If we can't reproduce it there, then I think it's most useful for the development workflow for us to mark it as 'RESOLVED WORKSFORME' until someone has the same bug show back up again. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89401] FILEOPEN: Loading 200MB+ .doc takes extremely long
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89401 --- Comment #2 from Jouni Järvinen jounijar...@gmail.com --- Now that it has loaded for long, it has loaded over 14 505 842 500 bytes which equals 14505.8MB and using a core almost completely, which means complete trashing to me. LO still is to show anything. Wordpad has loaded way over 400 million bytes (about 400MB) while using nearly whole core, so Wordpad can't handle the file either. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
