[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 87842] Writer zoom at page width, option to eliminate 3d page edge and gutter

2015-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #12 from Jay Philips philip...@hotmail.com ---
Hi Orion,

My apologize about recommending optimal view, as i seemed to have missed your
comment 3.

Yes i think having a view that a user can select which disables the gutters and
the 3d page edge effect would be a useful feature as i was going to suggest it
for touch screen users.

I was able to fake this view by going into Tools Options Appearance, and
setting Application Background to white and unchecking Shadows. Is this a
sufficient enough fix the the problem you are posing or are you looking for
something exactly like iWork Pages.

I think it is a bad idea to have a function inside LibreOffice to backup the
user profile because this user profile will be in use when you will launch the
backup; copying files when they are used may give unexpected results.
It would be easier to add appropriate documentation in the help.

That said there is a button Reset in the Expert Configuration dialog in
LibreOffice 4.4 (menu Tools Options LibreOffice Advanced). This button
does not reset the user profile to the fresh user profile state you get when
you remove your old user profile and launch LibreOffice again.

Best regards. JBF

Try the raw method:
1) uninstall any LO version
2) Remove any remnants LO directory in program files or LO installation
directories
3) Rename your LO directory profile (see
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Windows) or remove it if you
don't need to save customization/extensions
4) clean your Windows registry with a free tool (eg: ccleaner)
5) download last mature LO version 4.3.6 (4.4.1 if you want to discover last
features but not recommended for production) from official website
https://www.libreoffice.org/download
6) Install again

BTW: any odf files (odt, ods, odb, odp) are in fact specifically structured zip
files. It means you can change their extension to zip and unzip them to have
their content.

Waiting for your feedback.

LibreOffice generated document that can not be opened in MS Office Mobile app
for Android or iOS

When I try to open docx files generated by LibreOffice in the MS Office Mobile
app for Android and iOS I get the error message Word is unable to open this
document because it might be damaged. I can successfully open the same
document (attached) in the MS Word desktop application (version 2010), other
mobile document editing applications (Google Docs, Polaris Office Viewer 5),
and the MS online document editing application (via OneDrive).

To reproduce:
1. Create and save a new document in the LibreOffice Writer desktop application
containing a small amount of text (e.g. Testing 1 2 3).
2. Try to open the document in the MS Office Mobile app in Android or iOS.

embedded database demonstrating report writer crash

Libreoffice crashes when using the attached database file in the report writer.

Crashes in 4.4.1.2 (Installed) and 4.3.5.2 (Portable) versions. Works correctly
in 4.2.8.2 (Portable)

Steps to replicate bug:

1) Open the attached database Crash Test.odb

2) Click on Reports button, right click Crash Test Report and select Edit.

3) Report Writer opens. Select the field in the Detail band, go to the Data
tab in the Properties box, and click the field edit button ... for the Data
Field.

4) LibreOffice crashes, and the error message due to an unexpected error,
LibreOffice crashed. All the files you were working on will now be saved... The
following files will be recovered: Crash Test.odb

5) Click OK and LibreOffice restarts and initiates document recovery.

The behavior seems to be related to the first parenthesis in the detail field.
If I delete the detail field and add a new detail, then go to edit the
contents, when I type =ISNA( after typing the first parenthesis, LO crashes.

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

I am running Windows 7 X64

Thanks, Mark

@JBF :

Thi scan work, but this is more a workaround than a solution.

Merging two paragraph into a single logical pararagraph, while they are still
displayed as separate paragraph, is potentially confusing. And it requires that
the two paragraphs share the same style (which is indeed the most frequent
case, but not the only case).

A better solution is still needed in my opinion.

It is also not possible to

Just to clarify this. I was also under the impression that it wasnt possible to
do so, but it is. You click on the drop arrow of the comment you want to
respond to and you will be given the option to reply to it if the comment
originates from another user. It would be better for an icon to appear in the

* Direct click: Modify the current selection or start highlighting
* Split click: Change the style for next input
* Move position: Use actual style
(However, the controls do not convey any cue to what happens. Especially when
you switch the position it's not changed accordingly. I'd tread this as bug
although I guess it is implemented on purpose just to have another option like
highlight.)
* Style: Applies the color to all text except the individually formatted

Yes, it is over-complicated. But we do not need to copycat alternative
programs. I'd rather think about making it clear to the user what is happening
and to standardize the workflow. For instance, the awesome highlighting feature
of clone formatting outperforms most competitors. Why don't start color
cloning as well on double click? And having a clear feedback in the buttons
in respect to the current selection should support users understanding too.

On the other hand we need to design and develop for the user. So if she doesn't
like the way LO works we need to adopt other workflows. It makes sense to
confirm any suggestion by Bryant, or rather his friends.

On pc Debian x86-64 with LO Debian package 4.3.3.2, I don't reproduce this.
I put it as WFM.

faxiomas/Jean-Baptiste: don't hesitate to reopen this tracker if you can
reproduce this with a recent LO version (4.3.6 or 4.4.1)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89751] New: Wrong icon set displayed on startup screen

2015-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89751

Bug ID: 89751
Summary: Wrong icon set displayed on startup screen
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 4.5.0.0.alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: graphics stack
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: hoes.maar...@gmail.com

Created attachment 113792
  -- https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=113792action=edit
Screenshot of the badly displayed graphics

The icon set used when LibreOffice starts up arent displayed correctly. When
you start LibreOffice the left hand side (open file, template, writer document,
etc.) isnt displayed properly initially. After opening and closing writer, the
display updates and gets displayed right. It almost looks like a different icon
set is being used. Note that the Open File and Templates icons have
completely different outlines between the two screenshots.

Tested on master commit a98d3240a2d44a428852fee1d8a622b0780d687e

Steps to reproduce :

1.) From a command prompt, start LibreOffice
./soffice

2.) Start Writer
Click on 'Writer Document', letting the window overlap the startup screen

3.) Close Writer
Click on the bottom 'X' in the top right corner to close the document and close
Writer. This returns you to the startup screen.

Results:
The icons displayed on the startup screen dont get displayed correctly on
startup, but get updated after opening and closing writer.

Expected results:
The icons displayed on the startup screen get displayed correctly.

In the cases where you need text styles in text box, you have 2 solutions:
1/ use a frame instead of a text box. Writer has styles for frames.
2/ There is not styles for graphic objects in Writer, but styles for text box
exist in Draw. So you can create your text boxes in Draw and copypaste them in
your text document.

As there is a long term aim to replace the drawing functions in Writer by the
ones of Draw, I close this bug report as WontFix. Please, feel free to reopen

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89750] New: Edit with external tool… Right click on mouse with SVG picture selected

2015-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89750

Bug ID: 89750
Summary: Edit with external tool… Right click on mouse with SVG
picture selected
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 4.4.1.2 rc
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: zaqzaqtgbyhn...@gmail.com

Selecting a inserted SVG picture and right clicking and select Edit with
external tool… to launch the external application to edit the picture doesn't
work in LibreOffice 4.4.1.2.
The shortcut works fine in LibreOffice 4.4.0.3 but it ceased to work in
LibreOffice 4.4.1.2.
The external program I use to edit SVG pictures with is Inkscape 0.91.
I have tried to remove LibreOffice 4.4.1.2 and reinstall LibreOffice 4.4.0.3 on
both at Windows 7 Professional and on a Windows 8.1 Professional equipped
computer. After reinstalling the LibreOffice 4.4.0.3 the Edit with external
tool… worked fine again.
If I double click on a SVG file in Windows explorer, Windows launches Inkscape
and opens the SVG file.
Both windows versions are with Danish user interface.
I am using a Danish language version of LibreOffice so the text that I click on
when I right click on the mouse, with the picture selected, is actually
Rediger med eksterne værktøjer… and not Edit with external tool… but that
is probably not the cause of the error?

It looks to me testing this is nearly solved on libreoffice 4.4.0.3 on windows.
I reported this bug a while ago. The bug has been resolved except for the slide
that you mentioned where the text does to fit or align probably due to the font
size issue. Is there a way to disable the autofit text option if it is moving
the text in the incorrect position automatically when opening files, or an
automated way to resize the text so that it can fit in the spaces, without
having to disable options manually and change font size?

I would like to receive some feedback on this issue before I can close this
bug.

Please find the proposed solution here:

You have to delete the original font file (Windows\fonts\opens__.ttf) first

 OpenSymbol_V1.7_new2.ttf - install).

Indeed, thank you for this remark. Closing as duplicate.

This PPT slideshow works perfectly in my LibreOffice 4.4.2.0.0+ built at home
under Ubuntu 14.10 x86-64.

The only small problem is in slide 20 in which the text area has the option
Autofit text checked in its contextual menu. That has the effect to change
the font size (32 -- 30,3) that breaks the alignment with other text boxes.
Unchecking this option solves the problem.

Hi Orion,

Page with is a view to see the entire page, while optimal view is a view to see
the entire margins. LibreOffice shows documents in print layout view and in
this view, the entire page is visible including its borders. This is the normal
view for most word processors (MS Word, Google Docs, Calligra Words) and there
isnt a need to change it in LO.

You can switch to Web Layout ( View Web Layout ) if you want a view that is
without the grey areas around the page.

I believe that if the sidebar was completed to its full extent, there wouldnt
be a need to customize it. Its the same case for other sidebar oriented office

Please attach testing document. The problem is zoom factor is not used in

Any calc file is ok to test. Any option that you select on the export pdf

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 33223] Sidebar: as container for toolbars, ability to add functions missing from Sidebar

2015-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33223

--- Comment #11 from V Stuart Foote vstuart.fo...@utsa.edu ---
(In reply to Jay Philips from comment #10)
I believe that if the sidebar was completed to its full extent, there
wouldnt be a need to customize it...

No even when fully realized with defaults, the capability for users to modify
the GUI as preferred is a fundamental feature contributing to enhanced UX, and
is something that we already provide.

For example on toolbars we provide Visible buttons and the Customize tool
bar dialog. Also, any toolbar can be rotated from horizontal to vertical and
docked as such. That flexibility in layout of the GUI (actions and arrangement)
is what is not fully realized for the Sidebar.

Providing efficient means to modify the fixed screen space of the Deck with
customized content panels (either existing panels, or adding panels) would be
as useful as current ability to manipulate toolbars.

In fact, UNO API based macros could already extend the OpenOffice task pane,
and now can address any panels of the the Sidebar Deck. We just have not made
that obvious or efficient in the Sidebar GUI as it has been for toolbars. It is
also not well documented.

And, as suggested in this issue--ability for a user to efficiently add their
own custom content panel(s) made up of button actions from various toolbars, or
even of entire toolbars, is a reasonable for customizable GUI.

Other needed customization features--e.g. bug 65351, bug 67230, bug 67770, bug
85905 etc. suggest there is a long way to go before potential of the Sidebar is
reached.

But for this all to be reliable, and for acceptable UX, we will also need to
improve user profile backup and recovery. Currently customizations to
Toolbars, and of any Sidebar layouts, are fragile and can not be reapplied
when a user profile becomes corrupted and has to be reset.

That mechanism for protection of profile (GUI layout and custom styles) is not
yet implemented--issues of bug 52387, bug 64439--but would become even more
important to the UX when both Toolbars and Sidebar panels are being more
commonly customized.

Well, before this can be worked on, I suppose there needs to be a specification
for timestamps in ODF documents.
As far as I am aware, there is no notion of digitally signed (RFC 3161)
timestamps in the format, right?
So a first step would be to draw up a specification.

And, yes, this should then go into a separate bug (i.e. feature request)

Grabbing the handle in the bottom right corner of a cell can be used to fill an
area with automatically increased values. If more cells are selected initially,
they define the autoincrement value. If all selected cells contain the same
value, the increment will be 0.

The last one doesn't work for date datatype. If I have e.g. 3 cells containing
the same date, e.g. 2012-01-10, select them, and grab the handle, the next 3
cells will contain 2012-01-11, the next 3 cells will contain 2012-01-12 and so
on. If I start with N cells, the value will be incremented every N cells. There
should be no increment.

I'm using the newest LO version available in Debian Unstable.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 87842] Writer zoom at page width, option to eliminate 3d page edge and gutter

2015-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87842

I appreciate you pointing out that workaround, Jay, but it doesn't quite solve
the problem I have, which is that the gutter takes up space for no good reason.
Turning it white would make it impossible to tell exactly where the edge of the
page is.

But to be clear, the argument that the gutter helps to define the page is a bit
baffling because it's perfectly obvious where the edge is. You can see your
desktop behind it, especially if your windows have shadows, like they do in
OSX.

So I don't know why someone keeps flipping this bug to solved. It feels like
an aesthetic preference rather than a thing to be fixed, and in that case, why
not just send a note up the chain to, someday, provide a no gutters option?

Hi, Stuart.

Yes, *I* have the problem. That's why I'm the one reporting it, right?

Also, there are actually only three commenters in this thread (you, me, and
Jay), so we're not really a representative sample one way or the other, as much
as I wish I could claim to represent 66% of users.

I *entirely* agree that it's a very low-priority tweak. I honestly thought I
was doing my part, as someone who doesn't code, by making the suggestion. And
yeah, I don't know how to code, so that's not something I can help with.
Believe me, I'd love to be able to fix it myself and just offer a solution.

What's frustrating is to just be told that's a bad idea without any real
explanation as to why. Just saying other word processors do X (or shouldn't
have done X) doesn't address the problem. If it's simply so low on the list of
priorities that it's not worth talking about, I can accept that, but, all due
respect, you didn't say that.

The status was resolved and wontfix earlier today. It's been changed since
then.

We cool now?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 33223] Sidebar: as container for toolbars, ability to add functions missing from Sidebar

2015-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33223

--- Comment #12 from Jay Philips philip...@hotmail.com ---
(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #11)
No even when fully realized with defaults, the capability for users to
modify the GUI as preferred is a fundamental feature contributing to
enhanced UX, and is something that we already provide.

I guess we will disagree on this point as i see the sidebar the same way i see
a dialog box. It is built in a particular way that users cant modify. We can
give them the option to no longer see a section, like we presently allow to no
longer see a tab, but not with the rearrangement of elements within a section.

For example on toolbars we provide Visible buttons and the Customize tool
bar dialog. Also, any toolbar can be rotated from horizontal to vertical
and docked as such. That flexibility in layout of the GUI (actions and
arrangement) is what is not fully realized for the Sidebar.

With toolbars, you have a simple structure of a row of buttons/controls, so in
that scenario, providing the ability to customize it has benefits. But those
benefits dont always work, e.g. make the formatting toolbar vertical in writer
and you wont be able to use the non-button elements like the style drop down,
font name drop down or font size drop down.

And, as suggested in this issue--ability for a user to efficiently add their
own custom content panel(s) made up of button actions from various toolbars,
or even of entire toolbars, is a reasonable for customizable GUI.

I guess this sounds reasonable, though i wonder about what kind of
customization dialog would be appearing for them to implement this and whether
they would be permitted to place those buttons wherever on the panel as they
please. I dont really see the benefit of putting this in a panel when they
could easily have it in a toolbar. I see panels as going beyond what a toolbar
can handle, as you can add all the elements found in the dialogs into it.

It would be nice to hear from someone on the dev team who has knowledge of
fonts to look into this so that UX can look into how best to implement it in
the font dialog.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89714] Orphan and widow control should be on by default

2015-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89714

(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #4)

What line settings would be used if by default is set enabled?

I think that the current default setting of 2 lines is suitable.

Also, aren't the two mutually exclusive? Orphan controls page break at end
of page, while Widow controls page break at top of page.

No, they are not. They are meant for two different things.

Orphan: Specifies the minimum number of lines in a paragraph before a page
 break.
Widow: Specifies the minimum number of lines in a paragraph in the first
page after the break. If both checked active and both at default of 2--what
 happens?

I also cannot remember which of both applies to the paragraph start or
paragraph end. Here is what I have looked up.

Widow: If your paragraph does not fit on the page and the last line would go to
the top of the next page, this setting causes the previous line also to go on
the new page so that the widowed line (consisting probably of only one or two
words) does not stand alone on top of the page.
Orphan: If only one line of your new paragraph just fits on the bottom of the
page while the rest of the paragraph goes to the next page, this setting
prevents that orphaned line on the bottom of the page and causes the
paragraph to go completely to the next page.
Both settings control the page break that would happen after the first or
before the last line of a paragraph, respectively.

Please also refer to Wikipedia
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widows_and_orphans)

In the past, I have always checked both options in the Paragraph dialog and it
has always worked perfectly.

Cheers,
Rüdiger

This is the document generated by MS Office Word 2010 from attachment 2 (and
comment 2) but opened in LibreOffice Writer 4.4.0.3 and immediately saved
without any modifications to the document) as a docx. MS Office Mobile won't
open it and gives the error Word is unable to open this document because it

Confirmed in 4.3.3.2, Debian Sid. The cursor disappears as specified.

However, did three more tests, inserting the table before, between and after a
letter in the A1 cell. Did it with the same steps but inserting the following
step:

Step 2.5: According to 1 of 3 cases, type 'a' and position the cursor before or
after the letter. Or, type 'aa' and place the cursor between the letters.

Inserting the table after the letter the bug does also occur.

Inserting the table before the letter the bug does not occur.

Inserting the table between two letters the bug does not occur.

Bug 88396 Git bisect log

I have attached a git bisect log for this. It is the first bisect I have done
so hopefully I have done it correctly.

One thing I noticed is that usually when the siebar was not closed by clicking
on more styles a separate window would open which duplicated the the sidebar
contents.

Hope this helps.

In 4.4, I can't even find Content View!

First button of the second line in the Navigator toolbar.

Thanks. I was referring to the new sidebar version. As I recall, the Content
View button isn't there, and it's defunct on the old Navigator toolbar.

Now I've returned to LO4.1.6.2 (for the 2nd time) where things are good
enough. So, I don't have 4.4 to test anymore.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 78622] LibreLogo: change in tooltips

As these tooltips are actual programming commands, i believe they should not
 be translated.

If you have ever worked with a Logo-like programming language, you will have
known who is the intended audience of it. These programming languages are
translated, as they should. And LibreLogo is already localized for a number of
languages.
