Here are a couple of interesting observations:
1) https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=114243 shows
libreoffice mapping a window and then unmapping it, without waiting for the
window manager to actually map the window. I.e., libreoffice is not waiting for
the MapNotify event.
2) https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=114244 shows that
libreoffice is then sending a MapRequest for that same window (see the
MapWindow w_56 call in the very last buffer), without having waited for the
window manager to confirm the previous UnmapWindow by setting the WM_STATE to
WithDrawn.
I think both of this is unsafe and prone to race-conditions at the very least.
If I read ICCCM section 4.1.4 correctly (see
http://tronche.com/gui/x/icccm/sec-4.html#s-4.1.4), what libreoffice does in
(2) is even a spec violation:
When a client withdraws a window, the window manager will then update or
remove the WM_STATE property as described in section 4.1.3.1. Clients that
want to re-use a client window (e.g. by mapping it again or reparenting it
elsewhere) after withdrawing it must wait for the withdrawal to be complete
before proceeding. The preferred method for doing this is for clients to wait
for the window manager to update or remove the WM_STATE property.
Here are my suggestions on how to fix this issue:
1) For showing the tooltip window, ideally you would never need to call
XWithdrawWindow() at all, and just map it once at the final position.
2) If that’s infeasible for some reason, please wait for the MapNotify event
before Unmapping windows.
3) Regardless of suggestion (1) and (2), never re-use a window before you got
the WM_STATE change from the window manager.

I experienced this bug when I was testing Bug 90130. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open WRITER 2. Go to INSERT - FRAME and press OK to insert a frame 3. Click with the mouse outside the frame into the document to deselect the frame (now it has no longer the green squares for selection) 4. Click with the mouse inside the frame (inside the inner frame of the frame), now you have the blinking cursor to insert a text 5. Write a word 6. Go to FILE - SAVE AS and save the file as a docx file 7. After you have saved it, close it and reopen it Result: The frame seems to been saved in the header, but not in the main section of the document (try to select it and move it down in the document). This does not happen for rtf, odt and doc files and it also does not happen if you insert many empty lines before you insert the frame in Step 2. The inner text frame and outer frame itself are misplaced. The inner text frame seems to be moved a little bit up in comparison with the frame itself. If I'm scrolling through a large document to find some particular position, I absolutely do not want the view to change randomly to wherever the cursor was left just because an autosave happens to occur at that moment. Autosave in particular should be as transparent as possible, though I don't particularly see why a manual save should move the view either. View position and cursor position are separate for a reason, and neither should be changed by actions that aren't individually relevant to one or the other. In my work PDF is common output format for various plots and graphs. When I need to create a presentation it would be nice to be able to drag and drop my existing PDFs onto a slide. I'm using LibreOffice 4.4.1.2. on Windows 7 with USA English. The problem was found in Writer. I had a first weird experience typing something with a UK English spellcheck, and having an 'i' not corrected into an 'I'. I checked and the autocorrect list was empty, even though I had downloaded the whole package of dictionaries, etc. I tried the USA autocorrect list, it was there, I carried on typing. However, when it didn't correct 'i'm' into 'I'm' I decided I would add it to the list: when I did that, the program crashed, and when I opened it again, the entire autocorrect list had vanished (both for USA and UK English). I then downloaded some other dictionary (I found one called 'UK English, OED spelling'), and the same thing happened again: it worked ok until I wanted to add something to it, which made the program crash and all the autocorrect options vanish. I did try to have LibreOffice ignore system language as well as not, and tried a reboot, it didn't change a thing. I would have downloaded again the language package thing, but it seems to be integrated into the program itself. I then tried to uninstall/reinstall libreoffice, but I guess the files haven't been changed, and so even with the new version I'm still stuck without autocorrect. Thanks for your help.
