[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 87386] Calculation inaccuracy converting calculated numbers to dates and integers.
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87386 --- Comment #11 from GerardF gerard.farg...@orange.fr --- (In reply to klsu from comment #0) Cell C13 D13 contain general number 24.09 and text 24.09.13, respectively (European dates dd.mm and dd.mm.yy in a .CSV opened on a US machine). Formula to convert the first dd.mm and the second year to a date would be =DATE(2000+VALUE(RIGHT(D13,2)),MOD(C13,1)*100,INT(C13)), however, for this particular date the formula returns 08/24/13 rather than 09/24/13. Note that: =DATE(2000+VALUE(RIGHT(D13,2)),0.09*100,INT(C13)) works =DATE(2000+VALUE(RIGHT(D13,2)),C13*100-INT(C13)*100,INT(C13)) works =DATE(2000+VALUE(RIGHT(D13,2)),(C13-INT(C13))*100,INT(C13)) does not =DATE(2000+VALUE(RIGHT(D13,2)),MOD(C13,1)*100,INT(C13)) does not A similar problem occurs with number 7.05 and text 07.05.13 and others, but not all. Instead of using DATE, VALUE, RIGHT, INT, MOD and other hundreds of Functions, just open correctly the .csv file and you will have true dates and don't need any functions. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48763 --- Comment #8 from mahfiaz mahf...@gmail.com --- Cor, I made a table, set the number type for a few cells, inserted a number, deleted contents and wrote another number back. The cell preserved it's properties. It loses the properties if you enter text (e.g end your number with enter which creates a newline, make a mistake and enter a number and a space or something similar), so it can only contain a number or be blank for the properties to be preserved. It is picky, but it somewhat works. So I think improvement to make the cell preserve its numeric properties over containing some text (as it happens in Calc) would help (especially annoying with typing accidents like 0,3 vs 0.3 or 23,4 , note the space). As for LO to also store the properties as global, it's mostly useful feature, but IMO not a bug and works as expected. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

Download file; 2. Copy (1) No one can petition at park; (neutral) (pg. 2) 3. Place cursor at end of Content and Viewpoint Neutral and hard return 4. Paste Observed: The copy takes on the direct formatting from Content and Viewpoint Neutral Expected: Whenever you copy/paste a line that has no styles, it should apply *as is* and *not* take on ANY direct formatting from previous lines. 5. Ctrl + z to undo; 6. Paste again Observed: The paste is *as expected* Continued (might be a separate issue . . . not really positive) 7. Delete the paste; 8. Repeat steps 2-4 9. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 90497] Implementing document themes
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90497 --- Comment #2 from Jay Philips philip...@hotmail.com --- Mirek provided the following links as good resources to understanding the MSO document themes. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc964302%28v=office.12%29.aspx https://support.office.com/en-us/article/All-about-themes-Quick-Styles-cell-styles-and-background-styles-2cf8ffb9-4c87-47b3-9b36-bb2e8a836288?CorrelationId=37871130-d070-4bac-8056-bac0b5bd72c0ui=en-USrs=en-USad=US He also stated in an email to me and others, Microsoft's specs look pretty good -- I'm hoping ODF will more or less stick to them. (I'm a bit worried about feature creep here.) The nice thing about themes is that the different aspects are relatively separate, so it seems to me that they could be implemented gradually. I'd suggest starting with theme fonts -- those seem easier to implement than the other aspects and relatively high-impact if the UX is thought-out well. (Generally, fonts should never be hard-coded.) Presentation themes would have a higher impact, but they're much more complex. As an aside, it'd be good to sit down and decide on the purpose of each major UI element in LibreOffice, weeding out unnecessary interfaces that only add bloat. Adding themes to the mix will require some major changes to existing UI elements and, in the interest of maintainability, consistency, discoverabillity, and less work, it's imperative that the UI is streamlined and focused before adding major features. (Here, I'd suggest taking inspiration from iWork's UI.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 90290] reduce some copypaste code in ucalc
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90290 --- Comment #12 from Tor Lillqvist t...@iki.fi --- Brent: The line number and file name in messages about failed unit tests come (in the examples in the initial comment) from where the CPPUNIT_FAIL macro is called. So if CPPUNIT_FAIL is moved into some function that is called from multiple places, the message no longer gives the true line number and source file to identify which test actually fails. Thus it might be useful if there was another macro, CPPUNIT_FAIL_AT(message, file, line), and such a function (the checkFormula() in Markus's comment) would then take also file name and line number, which would be passed on to CPPUNIT_FAIL. CPPUNIT_FAIL (and other macros starting with CPPUNIT_) are from a separate piece of software called cppunit. As it happens, it's the LibreOffice developers (Markus in particular, I think) that are the upstream nowadays of that software, so we can easily amend its API as we see useful, and release a new version. Brent, you could even suggest such a patch to cppunit. Is the menu so hard to find, then, so that the option guarantees duplication in another place in the UI? Also, is the command so frequently needed? Concerning the confirmation dialog, I know these are only links, but I would like to have the confirmation anyway […] Just to be sure one is doing the appropriate action. :) The action is non-destructive, therefore adding an alert would be more of an annoyance. (And why would you be unsure of doing the “appropriate action”? Isn’t it obvious what “Clear List” means…?) It’s a good practice to *reduce* the number of alerts presented to the user. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 87386] Calculation inaccuracy converting calculated numbers to dates and integers.
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87386 k...@cox.net changed: What|Removed |Added Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED Resolution|NOTABUG |--- --- Comment #10 from k...@cox.net --- Some people need to learn that computers and software are supposed to work for people. People do not work for computers. Telling someone they have to do what the computer wants doesn't resolve the problem (in this case, random wrong answers). So, not a proper use of general numbers, will never work reliably and Floating point numbers just don't work that way don't change the fact that this is a bug. The whole point of GUIs is what you see is what you get. If someone sees 0.09, it is reasonable for them to expect it to work in calculations as 0.09, and it normally will. Where it won't is with any function that truncates digits without regard to their significance, so for those types of functions, the software must account for the fact that computers must work with more digits than they show, so they can display the correct answer. This is not a problem with number types. It is a problem with algorithms used for functions. As has been pointed out in the thread of a related bug with the MOD() function, random wrong answers due to inadequate or improper handling of significant digits is not acceptable to anyone in a job where life or property could be harmed or lost by such an error. That means engineers, logisticians, doctors and accountants should not use the MOD() or DATE() functions in LibreOffice. The fact that this discussion is ongoing tells me spreadsheet functions haven't been standardized, and that's too bad. I'm stuck with MS Excel for the foreseeable future, since the open source community apparently doesn't understand user requirements for spreadsheets. I got involved in bug reporting, thinking the community might want to know what users need. Now I'm not sure they do. Someone who wants to get away from Windows won't find a spreadsheet for Linux that can be depended on for all the functions I use. But LibreOffice comes with those functions, and most people don't know they can give wrong answers. You could bury a warning with descriptions of the MOD() and DATE() functions saying they shouldn't be used for important work, but what engineer or accountant needs to read the descriptions of MOD() and DATE(). If the function doesn't work reliably, it shouldn't be implemented. DATE() and MOD() worked as they should for the more than 20 years I've used them in Excel, so when someone tells me one will never work reliably, it sounds like they think the current algorithm is the only one possible. I can think of many ways to work around the problem, but why would I unless I know the functions don't work properly? Most LO Calc users don't know, and if they did, I suspect they would not be happy if they use the DATE() function. If I were programming a DATE() function that expected only integers as input for YEAR, MONTH, or DAY, I would make very sure that every passed value was appropriately rounded BEFORE being used in the function. (However, I probably wouldn't design the DATE() function to expect only integers, because dates are stored as floating point days that can include the information returned by TODAY() or NOW(), so the DATE() function should allow addition of decimal days to the value returned by NOW() or any other date/time.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 63416] FILTER: autofilter -- first row lock
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63416 --- Comment #18 from i...@scito.ch --- Created attachment 114741 -- https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=114741action=edit Screenshot: Autofilter-button remains if header is moved I've noticed with the current master (f8976c4) the clicked autofilter button remains sometimes after the header is moved, see screenshot. This does not happen with version 4.3.6.2. How to reproduce: 1. At least 3 Columns, in the middle an empty one, see screenshot. 2. Add autofilter on first column 3. Sort asc and desc with autofilter. 4a. The clicked button remains sometimes. 4b. Repeat step 3 if problem does not occur. I think this behaviour is not a cause of this bug report, it just a new secondary effect of moving autofilter buttons. This behaviour appears also if the proposed solution of comment 13 is applied. Thus, I propose to submit a patch to gerrit for review, as proposed in comment 13. This patch is probably not the final solution, but it is a big improvement. The user decision of having a header or not is respected. It will be far better than the current behaviour. If this small patch would be committed, another bug report could be written for the GUI update problem. This GUI issue could be solved independently.
