[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 92190] PRINTs landscape despite configured as portrait

2015-06-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92190

--- Comment #5 from Alex Thurgood ipla...@yahoo.co.uk ---
(In reply to MJHauan from comment #4)
Start the program. Create a new Writer, Calc, or whatever document. Add
some random characters. Then print. The following print dialog shows two
conflicting images -- one (on the left) with the print running top to bottom
as if in landscape aspect, the other appearing apparently normal in portrait
aspect. On actual printing, the landscape version shows up on the paper.

This is exactly what I did, on stock TDF LibreOffice and I don't have a problem
printing, or even in the printing preview in the CUPS dialogue. This would lead
me to believe that the problem is specific to the version provided in the
AppStore, or else a configuration problem.

Have you tried deleting your LO user profile (without LO running) and then
retrying ?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 92345] Text Flow, paragraph to para and footnotes to para inserting blank page CANNOT save corrections to template

2015-06-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92345

--- Comment #4 from Alex Thurgood ipla...@yahoo.co.uk ---
@Michelle: is the document you are working on in Word format or ODT ?

If it is an ODT document, was the original template, or document, a Word
document that was opened in LibreOffice.

Did you originally create the document in LibreOffice from scratch, then export
to Word format (if so which one), and then continue to work on it from there ?

I am just trying to narrow down the possibilities. Other than stating that the
document is big, you do not mention how the document was created.

Please note that I am not disbelieving that your problem is real, but without a
sample document, and of course absolutely understanding that you don't want to
publish your book on the bugzilla website, we can't go much further.

Ideally, a Lorem Ipsum (see Lorem Ipsum extension) filled document that uses
your document structure and containing the problematic footnotes would be a
good starting point.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 92374] New: UI: Update the old blackwhite custom mouse cursors

2015-06-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92374

Bug ID: 92374
Summary: UI: Update the old blackwhite custom mouse cursors
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: r...@akl.lt

When LibreOffice needs to use a custom cursor, which the underlying OS does not
provide, it currently uses some really old renderings (which I guess might date
back even to 90-ies) for those custom cursors.

Needless to say, these cursors look ugly. It would be great to have them
updated. And if ugly is not reason enough, how about all of these cursors
are only defined in one size, thus completely disregarding hi-dpi screens (for
example, even stock Windows 7 aero_arrow cursor contains two renderings of the
cursor: 32x32 and 48x48, both in 32-bit colors).

At the same time, perhaps it would make sense to also drop the ones that are
not used anywhere in LibO (I couldn't find any uses of some of the cursors).
Additionally, I'm sure there are cases where we are using custom cursors even
though the OS provides us with stock ones. I've cleaned that up for Windows in
bugs #53148 and #53151, but the situation is likely unchanged for OS X (e.g.
#52263, which probably requires special consideration) and Linux.

Current cursor files reside in the following places in the source tree:
Windows: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/vcl/win/source/src
OS X: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/vcl/osx/res/cursors
Linux:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/vcl/inc/unx/x11_cursors and
probably
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/vcl/unx/generic/dtrans

I found it's probably easiest to look for the places defining cursors by
Grokking for the word 'airbrush':
http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/search?q=airbrushproject=core. Airbrush is one
of the cursors that appears to be defined, but never used.

By the way, it might be nice to also generate Unix cursors from PNG files and
hotspot definitions during compile time instead of having to define them as two
header files. This would make them actually viewable and easier to replace.

.odp file which shows in slide 2 a deformed image. Slide 1 is ok.

I have a large 100+ slide presentation (145MB) with most slides containing
images either inserted from Insert-Image or pasted (CTRL-V) from the
Clipboard (originating from screen shots copied into Clipboard using screenshot
v3.10.1).

Problem:

This presentation was produced on PC1 (LO 4.4). When opened on my PC2 laptop
night before before my talk, ALL the images that had been cropped had their
size ratio totally messed up. See an example of two such slides in the attached
files (the first slide has un-cropped image which is not affected, the second
slide has a cropped image which appears deformed on PC2):
PDF version 1: what the slide looked like in LO on PC1.
PDF version 2: what the slide looked like on opening in LO on PC2.
File as produced on PC1 (which is garbled on opening in PC2) is also attached.

bug is reproducible under Win8.1 x64 using LibO 4.4.3.2
I confirm that on opening the file the line it's at A1 position and after
moving, saving and reloading the line disappears

however both issues are not reproducible anymore in LibO 5.1.0.0.alpha1+ (*)
where line is at the expected position at first load (as depicted in the
screenshot inside the .ods file) and you can move it without disappearance of
change in position after save and reload

so the bug persists in the 4.4.x codeline but is RESOLVED WORKSFORME at least
in the 5.1.x branch

please test LibO 5.0.0 RC1 to see if the good news apply to the 5.0.x branch as
well.

Screen shot of frozen LO Writer with RAM monitor rocketing

In the attached document, when the frame (containing text starting with
cartoonesque...) is moved with the mouse across the page boundary to bottom
of previous page, then the action is undone with CTRL-Z, then the RAM usage of
LO goes through the roof (see attached screeenshots) and if user is not quick
enough the PC can become unusable.

Note that the frame is linked to two other frames (previous and next) for text
flow between the three.

This bug (and others) happened so regularly while working on this document,
that in desperation I resorted to creating a macro to do incremental automatic
saves of the document to avoid loosing too much work...

I uploaded your file and tested with LO Debian package 4.4.4 RC2.
I found cartoonesque in L'avis de l'expert, page 24.
I moved the frame on previous page then did an undo with Ctrl-Z, nothing
special about memory. Perhaps I missed something.

For the test, could you rename your LO directory profile (see
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#GNU.2FLinux)?
Indeed, there could be buggy remnants from previous LO version or from buggy
extensions.

Normally I would have proposed prerelease version - eg:
https://fr.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/ - but since it's not for
personal use and you lack time, I can easily understand you wouldn't want to
try)

I'm building right now master sources (future 5.1.0) and it'll take some time

I'll give a try with it, certainly I may have more info for devs (backtrace,
warning logs, etc) since I build with --enable-dbgutil flag.
Just for curiosity, what are the other bugtrackers you filled? I could take a

(In reply to Julien Nabet from comment #3)
Could you try a more recent LO version (last one is 4.4.3) by using LO ppa?
 (see https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa)
Indeed 4.3 branch is EOL, see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan

I have added the ppa, updated LO to Version: 4.4.3.2 Build ID: 40m0(Build:2),
rebooted the PC, and opened the .odt file again: the bug is exactly the same
(very fast RAM leakage leaving very little time to react and close the not
responding application).

If you wish to try by yourself, I have uploaded the file here:
http://biologie.univ-mrs.fr/upload/p1/tpe_20150214_ex2.odt

Not only that, but now my document has also become unreadable in version
4.4.3.2 because of some unexplainable change in the background color of the
frames... Separate bug report on the way. I've spent all my Saturday afternoon
(Asia here) filing three LO bug reports. I'm really sorry, I'm very aware how
much effort is going into this huge project, but I can't continue filing bug
reports, I need to produce documents, this is a very sad day for me but after
15 years of using 100% open source (I switched to OO in 2000!) I'm having to
switch to other solution - breaks my heart believe me as I'm such a strong
advocate of OS :(

(In reply to Julien Nabet from comment #5)
I uploaded your file and tested with LO Debian package 4.4.4 RC2.
 I found cartoonesque in L'avis de l'expert, page 24.
I moved the frame on previous page then did an undo with Ctrl-Z, nothing
special about memory. Perhaps I missed something.

For the test, could you rename your LO directory profile (see
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#GNU.2FLinux)?
Indeed, there could be buggy remnants from previous LO version or from buggy
 extensions.

Normally I would have proposed prerelease version - eg:
 https://fr.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/ - but since it's not for
personal use and you lack time, I can easily understand you wouldn't want to
 try)

I have moved my profile:
mv .config/libreoffice/ .config/libreoffice_bak

The crash happens in exactly the same predictable way.

I'm attaching a screenshot of the two very simple actions required to reproduce
the crash. It works 100% of the time. Notice the RAM graph in green in the
unity monitor.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 92345] Text Flow, paragraph to para and footnotes to para inserting blank page CANNOT save corrections to template

2015-06-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92345

--- Comment #5 from Michelle Christides jungs...@gmail.com ---
Alex, I tried to attach my document to email you sent directly to me. At this
point, I will publish the whole book on your website to solve this problem
without having to write it again! Here are my answers to your questions,
inserted at each one:

is the document you are working on in Word format or ODT ? I save in Word
*.doc -- not *.docx -- therefore in the most used M/S doc.

If it is an ODT document, was the original template, or document, a Word
document that was opened in LibreOffice. No, I started the book on my iMac
from a new text document in LO. I did not experience this problem until later
in the length of the document -- then I kept correcting as I went along. This
is why Patrick's bug report makes sense to me. No matter how many times I
correct, it reverts when I save. I always saved in Word 97/200/XP/2003(.doc)
-- then I tried Word 2007/2010/2013XML(.docx) -- because AMAZON wants it. I
have used Word since the 1980s and Word 97 seems to be the easiest and most
complete for my editing functions as a writer.

Did you originally create the document in LibreOffice from scratch, then export
to Word format (if so which one), and then continue to work on it from there ?
As above, I never exported, never ever saved in odt even the first time
(because, as with Gimp or with Audacity, proprietary formats are not easily
used when you want to publish). I hate PAGES (the iMac, as you probably know)
and when I went to Mac last year, I was recommended LO by a friend, who said
it's better than Open Office, which it was until this misery started.

I am just trying to narrow down the possibilities. Other than stating that the
document is big, you do not mention how the document was created. Sorry -- all
my docs are saved as Word 97 and started in new text doc from scratch.

Please note that I am not disbelieving that your problem is real, but without a
sample document, and of course absolutely understanding that you don't want to
publish your book on the bugzilla website, we can't go much further. Thought
you had an alternative --

Original rendering of the .odt document

In a LO Writer document, some text frames have a coloured background imposed by
a specific Frame style.

Problem:

When a document produced in LO version Version: 4.3.7.2 Build ID:
430m0(Build:2) is opened in LO version Version: 4.4.3.2 Build ID:
40m0(Build:2), the frame background colors are totally garbled. See the
attached screenshots for the difference in rendering.
I'm totally mystified because not only has the color changed, it also looks
like the background color which used to be specified in the frame's style, is
now specified in the paragraph style? I can't verify this because I've now
switched to 4.4.3.2 and can't reopen in 4.3.7.2 to check where the color was
originally specified. In any case the rendering is totally screwed up. The file
is here should anyone want to test:
http://biologie.univ-mrs.fr/upload/p1/tpe_20150214_ex2.odt

Expected behaviour:

The style's background color rendering should be the same, irrespective of the

Double clicking on the bookmark in Navigator will take you there or you can

 Hi Joel,

I can understand your little irritation here, since there is a high pressure
 on the QA team :)

But I have no reason to think that meneerjansen (sounds rather Dutch by the
way) really wants to promote a pet bug. I expect it more being a case of
limited experience with our complicated work flow. Or too big enthusiasm to
 lend a helping hand.

(you won't see me there active that much, busy with other work)

 Cheers,
 Cor
Dear Cor, dear Joel,

I haven't been here for a quite while (dunno how to activate e-mail
notification in case of added comments) and I am happy to see that this
bugzilla report is regularly fed w/ comments.

Being just a simple user, however, I do not see any progress on the issue even
though I'm convinced that hard work is being done on this bug by you
developers.

What I meant by dealbreaker is that many people will probably think the same
way as I do but do not take the trouble of filing a bug report or comment in a
bug report (read on). This is the opposite of what software developers want:
they want as many people to use the fruit of their labor. I realize now that I
chose the complete wrong words to encourage and stimulate developers.

==
[off topic]
There a many reasons that people do not file bug reports even though one is
always asked to do so in forums:

1. The layout of bugzilla sites is not very clear (and that is putting it
mildly). For somebody like me it's almost impossible to figure out what to
click, what it all means, how to activate mail-notification, how to find
duplicates etc. etc. It's a real pain to do anything w/ bugzilla sites.

2. When you come here you are FTFM'ed and asked to go to yet another medium
(i.e. chat) for the bug. The bug is described crystal clear, nothing to add
except to ask for (high) priority and the progress on it.

So dear Joel,

I've read the Wordpress Blog entry to which you posted the link. I agree w/
everything that is said there. :)

However, I do not know what a MAB tracker is. Some weeks ago I must have
activated it without realizing what it is. I shouldn't have. I'm awfully sorry,
but like I said the interface/layout of this site is almost impossible to
understand within a hour or so.

I also do not know what a pet bug is (pet bug meaning minor bug?). Sorry for
using the words deal breaker and me. But if you think that chapter
numbering in a word processor is a minor thing, then you might be the best of
developers, but then you've clearly never written a document in a word
processor as opposed to a text editor. One of the few advantages of a word
processor over a text editor is the automated numbering of chapters and sub
chapters and henceforth the automated generation of the table of contents.
Non-working - or extremely buggy - chapter/outline numbering is a deal breaker
for any word processor. Sorry for the strong language, but that's the way it
is. It is most definitely NOT my pet bug: chapter numbering is the first thing
one starts to use when starting to write a document in a word processor.

This way of communicating might come over to you as hostile, but most people
think that devs in bugzillas have no feelings at all and therefore use strong
language. For this I apologize sincerely. Believe it or not: by emphasizing in
my own little amateurish way I wanted to express that developers might want to
pause on developing some other bugs because this one is quite big and
important. I really think this is THE bug to work on. If not, I dare any of the
developers to mention a bug bigger and more important that this one.

And as for the exportation to Micro$oft Word: that is also one the most used
functions of Libre/Open Office in my experience. Where I come from (the
scientific world) we are forced to use a word processor sometimes if LaTeX is
not being understood by the (non scientific) people that we HAVE to share
documents with sometimes. In those cases we scientists have learned, ever since
1986 (the year TeX was released), that is no good to RTFM to people to learn
how to use LaTeX. So I understand the argument of software developers that one
had rather add input to the development of LO, as opposed to expecting people
who know how to program to do it. If that was the sole behavior of us scientist
we'd never walked on the moon or

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92384

Bug ID: 92384
Summary: Search bar cannot be closed
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 4.4.2.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: davidd...@yahoo.com

The search bar at the bottom of the screen cannot be closed by pressing the X
when the window is smaller than all of the elements of the search bar after a
search is declared search key not found. The closeout button is squashed and
overlays the search field as well. Once the entire window is expanded to a
suitable size to fit all the search bar components, the close out X button
works.

To reiterate, in order to reproduce the problem:
1.) Open a document in LibreOffice.
2.) Resize the LibreOffice window to less than half the screen
3.) press control + F
4.) Search for a word that is not contained in the document
5.) See that search key not found pops up above the search field
6.) Attempt to close search bar at bottom left corner by pressing on the X
button.

To clear problem:
1.) Expand the window to a bigger size.
2.) press the X button.

Content in headers and footers are saved with the page style.

Default Style has header and footer with input fields.
A new style is created from Default Style.
Page is changed to new style.
Default Style, even though it is not used, still has input fields.

Maybe there should be a check when updating fields to see if a page style is
used in the document.

The workaround is to insert a page break with any unused page styles and delete
the input fields from the headers and footers then delete the page break.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 84580] ctrlhome does not to the top of the document in certain instances

2015-06-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84580

--- Comment #9 from Todd toddandma...@zoho.com ---
(In reply to Gordo from comment #8)
There are other options. Double clicking on the table of contents in
Navigator will take you there. You can set a bookmark at the beginning of
the document. Double clicking on the bookmark in Navigator will take you
there or you can right click on the page numbers in the status bar to get
the bookmark if you do not want to keep Navigator open. If that is the only
bookmark then you can use a keyboard shortcut to navigate to the next
 bookmark.

Hi Gordo,

Interesting comment. I have an extensive Table Of Contents. The main reason I
use ctlrhome is to get to my Table of Contents. What you are recommending
is that I use a work around in place of ctrlhome instead of correcting the
functionality of ctrlhome to match what is expected by the user. (I have
used ctrlhome to get to the top of my documents since the 1980's.)

As to removing the current functionality, there may be people who find it
 useful.

Please try to determine if there are any that appreciate this non-standard
functionality. My experience with it is that no one will. Everyone who has
ever used ctrlhome will expect it to function the way they have always seen
it function everywhere else in the past.
