[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101773] link frame style to paragraph style so applying paragraph style also applies frame style to current (or selected) paragraph
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101773 --- Comment #2 from Zenaan Harkness--- Yes, I mean "Microsoft Office XP" - which is also called version 10.0, and occasionally called "2002" since that is the year it was introduced. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Office#Versions My workflow: I am editing a >1000 page book for a human rights association in Australia, and it requires many styles. Since it is a law related book, every paragraph has a marginalia "paragraph number". Please refer bug #101753 for a very small two page example of legal marginalia paragraph numbering. Inserting these is very easy in Microsoft Word, and currently quite awkward in LO: - In MS Word, I define a paragraph style to which I am able to attach a frame style, which correctly places the marginalia "legal paragraph number" (which is for the subsequent paragraph) - then to insert a new legal paragraph marginalia number, I go to the beginning of the paragraph that needs this new legal number - then insert a new paragraph containing this number - this is very easy - finally, I simply double-click the "legalNumMarginalia" style I created above and voi la! I have an instant legal paragraph number, perfectly placed In contrast, in LO, when I want to create this new legal paragraph marginalia number, I have to do the following: - create a paragraph style for the formatting of the legal number - separately create a correspoding frame style for the placement of the legal number - go to start of required paragraph [- do not insert a new paragraph] - instead insert a new frame - now enter the required legal number into the frame - double click the required paragraph style for formatting of the legal number in the new frame - next carefully click the edge of the frame so it is selected - finally double-click the required frame style to apply the needed frame properties This is the quickest sequence I have been able to determine so far in LO. I really wish there were an easier way to do this. Sometimes, in some legal documents, I can and do use numbered lists in LO, but sometimes I have to do things the manual way and in LO this is very time consuming and not enjoyable. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101776 --- Comment #3 from Zenaan Harkness--- > do you have any problem switching the view using our [existing] method? In MSWord I got used to the convenience of editing a page in Normal/Print View, and switching quickly to another view and back again, by simply clicking the view button below the page. (MSWord has more views available than LO.) This would just be another or a custom toolbar, that could be placed at bottom rather than at top - the main difference I see from a regular toolbar, is that it would be thinner than a normal toolbar, that's all. Perhaps this is just a theme thing? Is it possible to have two different sized toolbars in the one running LO instance? We already have toolbars at top and side bar at side. I would not push/advocate for changing the default/easy/less-busy workspace layout for new users, but I would like a bit more customizability. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101774 --- Comment #7 from Zenaan Harkness--- Also, what I mean by "will appear in a normal or print view of the file" was unclear, it should say: - all the entities declared in a referenced file containing declared or "named" content, are available to be inserted as "entity fields" in the current document; - and, when a named entity is inserted into the current document, the content of the "name reference" and not the name itself, will then appear in a Normal View or Print View -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101774] Named content in writer; master documents; templates; docbook
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101774 --- Comment #6 from Zenaan Harkness--- My third example: - And so content can be created also by declaring other named bits of content. can be further clarified: Named content, being content that is included by a reference to the name of the content you want to include "right here", can also be created in a nested fashion, e.g.: Heiko Tietze P.O. Box 33 Attractive Boulevarde Some Suburb 8 Then, assuming say that these "named entities" are declared in the master document, or in some file that is otherwise referenecable, then in a new document, I could do the following: Insert -> Named content... And then choose "" from the drop down list. Then, in my "normal" or "web" view of the document, my full address would appear, and it would be like an LO "field" - so it would not ordinarily be editable. Of course editing and locking various named content would be a UI feature - if it is edited, it would --always-- be the original "definition" that is being changed. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101774 --- Comment #5 from Zenaan Harkness--- Thanks for the explaining this need to clarify. - "Named content" in this concept is content that can be displayed in another document. - And, named content can be "referenced by name" and included, multiple times (in this or another document). - And so content can be created also by declaring other named bits of content. In DocBook for example, when referencing a file containing named content, by relative or absolute filename, or by "system catalog name", then all those names become available in the current file, and will appear in a normal or print view of the file, and the "reference names" only would appear in a "source" or "raw xml" view of the file/document (also, there might be a 'named content' view created to act as a convenient visual library of named content). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

That are those which the user has created. The nesting of the tags does not reflect the intended markup. First of all we have a classic user interface that is familiar to the users, and they want to keep it. Using tabs below the content in order to switch the view is also not really up-to-date (actually very outdated and rejected because the controls are out of the visual focus). Writer provides view modes per main menu. What I miss a good reason to put much effort in this task. I mean do you have any problem switching the view using our method? Talking about "navigational aids" the LibreOffice way is to present them in the Navigator. Admittedly there is room for improvements (https://design.blog.documentfoundation.org/2016/07/31/how-the-navigator-may-support-object-handling-in-libreoffice-draw/) but it doesn't mean to change the interaction concept. Change the font size of the style "Basis" to a different value. This changes the size of the word "Basis", which has this style applied. The word "size" has the style "Basis200%" applied. This style is a child of style "Basis" and its font size is set to the value 200%. Expected behavior: The size of the word "size" follows the changes in the parent style "Basis". Observed behavior: The size does not change. Save and reload the document. Now the word "size" get the totally wrong size value 24pt. Open the style "Basis200%" on tab "Font" for Modify. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101739] Upgraded to newer version, now no versions will open
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101739 --- Comment #2 from Alex Thurgood--- @KT : 1) Sounds like a damaged installation, and probably your attempts to re-install older versions over the top of an existing failed upgrade have compounded the difficulties. 2) Let's try things progressively : deactivate the Gatekeeper security feature under System Preferences > Security, and then click on the radio button "From anywhere" (which means allow the launching of apps downloaded from anywhere). You can always reset this back to the default setting once LibreOffice has been started at least once. 3) Now try and restart LibreOffice. Note down any error messages you see and report them here. If the application starts, then great, you have solved your problem, if not then move onto step (4) below. 4) Remove any traces of LibreOffice.app bundle in your /Applications folder. 5) Remove, or more preferably, rename, any traces of your LibreOffice user configuration folder in your Volumes/Users/myuser/Library/Application Support/ folder (this is a hidden folder by default so use Shift-Cmd-G to navigate to it. 6) Download LibreOffice again and reinstall it. Do not install any language packs before launching LibreOffice at least once. The Gatekeeper settings should still be set to allow any downloaded application to be launched. Once the copy operation has completed, start LibreOffice via the Applications folder menu from the Dock. The application should start, however, if you get an error message saying that the application is damaged, you can try forcing the launch of the application by opening your Applications folder, and right-mouse button clicking on the LibreOffice application icon, and choosing "Open". 7) Once LibreOffice has started at least once, you can install any language packs that you need. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
