Just found this bug. Sideheads are also called Marginalia.

Bug #101773 (link a frame style to a para style, so you can just double click
the para style on your "sidehead" pre-paragraph), should solve this UX issue.

Examples files are in bug #101753

See also bug #101765, which is the other part of the UX / user experience to
competently facilitate sideheads / marginalia.

I confirm that once ~2.4Ghz CPU core goes to 100% for about 7 seconds when step
6 (click FindAll) is done, LO5.3.0alpha 2016-08-25

BUT, after the 7 seconds, the appropriate highlighted search result is
displayed.

Still seems like something pathologic is happening in the regex engine, but
perhaps it's not as bad as it used to be.

Perhaps just a bad/ pathological regex.

As per comment #7 first suggested regex, that completes 'instantaneously' for
me.

I can also confirm comment #7 step 3, but not comment #7 "Actual results -
Nothing is found" - the same text is for me, found again.

So except for a long (~7 seconds) pause on the second "Find" I am experiencing
none of the other problems in the latest LO.

Just checked also on LO5.2.0.4 stable. Same results for me as above.

Works for me.

LO Calc, at least in 5.3.0alpha, already has this "navigation bar and tabs for
sheets" type of toolbar/statusbar, below the normal view for sheets.

I think when bug #101774 (named content) with its potential view(s), better
html editing view, bug #86846 and presumably other possible views become
available, this Calc like "navigation bar" may well be quite desirable.

Please add feedback on these comments.

Also, please note that as long as we can't reproduce the issue, the chances of
it getting fixed is very low (unless it's a common bug reported by others).
If you could find and share steps that yield the error consistently, that'd be
great, otherwise this bug report will be closed due to lack of information.

You can keep multiple LibreOffice versions installed separately as mentioned in

If everything was as expected, there would be zero bugs in this bugzilla. :)

Please check earlier pages, if there are incremental differences that build up

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101773] link frame style to paragraph style so applying paragraph style also applies frame style to current (or selected) paragraph

2016-08-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101773

Yes, I mean "Microsoft Office XP" - which is also called version 10.0, and
occasionally called "2002" since that is the year it was introduced. See:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Office#Versions

My workflow:
I am editing a >1000 page book for a human rights association in Australia, and
it requires many styles.

Since it is a law related book, every paragraph has a marginalia "paragraph
number". Please refer bug #101753 for a very small two page example of legal
marginalia paragraph numbering.

Inserting these is very easy in Microsoft Word, and currently quite awkward in
LO:

- In MS Word, I define a paragraph style to which I am able to attach a frame
style, which correctly places the marginalia "legal paragraph number" (which is
for the subsequent paragraph)
- then to insert a new legal paragraph marginalia number, I go to the beginning
of the paragraph that needs this new legal number
- then insert a new paragraph containing this number - this is very easy
- finally, I simply double-click the "legalNumMarginalia" style I created above
and voi la! I have an instant legal paragraph number, perfectly placed

In contrast, in LO, when I want to create this new legal paragraph marginalia
number, I have to do the following:
- create a paragraph style for the formatting of the legal number
- separately create a correspoding frame style for the placement of the legal
number
- go to start of required paragraph
[- do not insert a new paragraph]
- instead insert a new frame
- now enter the required legal number into the frame
- double click the required paragraph style for formatting of the legal number
in the new frame
- next carefully click the edge of the frame so it is selected
- finally double-click the required frame style to apply the needed frame
properties

This is the quickest sequence I have been able to determine so far in LO. I
really wish there were an easier way to do this.

Sometimes, in some legal documents, I can and do use numbered lists in LO, but
sometimes I have to do things the manual way and in LO this is very time
consuming and not enjoyable.

> do you have any problem switching the view using our [existing] method?

In MSWord I got used to the convenience of editing a page in Normal/Print View,
and switching quickly to another view and back again, by simply clicking the
view button below the page.

(MSWord has more views available than LO.)

This would just be another or a custom toolbar, that could be placed at bottom
rather than at top - the main difference I see from a regular toolbar, is that
it would be thinner than a normal toolbar, that's all. Perhaps this is just a
theme thing?

Is it possible to have two different sized toolbars in the one running LO
instance? We already have toolbars at top and side bar at side.

I would not push/advocate for changing the default/easy/less-busy workspace
layout for new users, but I would like a bit more customizability.

Comment #6, there is still the templating side of DreamWeaver - some templates

So I guess we could change the bug summary to "provide some Dreamweaver like

Also, what I mean by "will appear in a normal or print view of the file" was
unclear, it should say:

- all the entities declared in a referenced file containing declared or "named"
content, are available to be inserted as "entity fields" in the current
document;

- and, when a named entity is inserted into the current document, the content
of the "name reference" and not the name itself, will then appear in a Normal
View or Print View

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101774] Named content in writer; master documents; templates; docbook

2016-08-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101774

My third example:
- And so content can be created also by declaring other named bits of content.

can be further clarified:
Named content, being content that is included by a reference to the name of the
content you want to include "right here", can also be created in a nested
fashion, e.g.:

Heiko Tietze

P.O. Box 33
Attractive Boulevarde
Some Suburb
8

Then, assuming say that these "named entities" are declared in the master
document, or in some file that is otherwise referenecable, then in a new
document, I could do the following:

Insert -> Named content...
And then choose "" from the drop down list.

Then, in my "normal" or "web" view of the document, my full address would
appear, and it would be like an LO "field" - so it would not ordinarily be
editable.

Of course editing and locking various named content would be a UI feature - if
it is edited, it would --always-- be the original "definition" that is being
changed.

In essence, this is how DocBook and various templating tools work.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101774] Named content in writer; master documents; templates; docbook

2016-08-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101774

Thanks for the explaining this need to clarify.

- "Named content" in this concept is content that can be displayed in another
document.

- And, named content can be "referenced by name" and included, multiple times
(in this or another document).

- And so content can be created also by declaring other named bits of content.

In DocBook for example, when referencing a file containing named content, by
relative or absolute filename, or by "system catalog name", then all those
names become available in the current file, and will appear in a normal or
print view of the file,

and the "reference names" only would appear in a "source" or "raw xml" view of
the file/document (also, there might be a 'named content' view created to act
as a convenient visual library of named content).

Not for me. I scrolled down to page 14 with the scrollbar, and the rest of the
page was still empty.
However, if I click in the document below the table, then it's rearranged, and
2.1.4.3.3 now starts below the table.

Used v3.5.0.3 / Windows 7, this "trick" doesn't work with v3.6.0.4.
Same in v3.3.0.
So, I'd say it isn't a regression.

Microsoft Word calls it "Move with text". I'm not sure if any of those labels
are better to understand. And actually you should not ignore the "vertical

What really helps is an informative tooltip.

Side note: I tested with a text box and the checkbox has no effect on the
placement. Maybe I'm wrong... (v5.2 at Linux)

Not to "pile on" but concur with the WONTFIX.

In Impress we've now removed the long present top positioned default "Tab Bar"
GUI mode chooser which is what this is suggesting be adopted for all modules.

And in Impress we've replaced the Tab'd mode chooser with a split-button--the
"Display Mode"--button now handling both edit modes and master modes.

If needed for changing modes (e.g. the Writer Web's Normal-Web-HTML source)
additional "Display Mode" split buttons per module seem reasonable.

Please read section "20.183fo:font-size" of ODF 1.2 spec,
http://docs.oasis-open.org/office/v1.2/os/OpenDocument-v1.2-os-part1.html

The word Emphasis has got a style from the "automatic-styles", but percent
values can only be used with common styles. That are those which the user has
created. The nesting of the tags does not reflect the intended markup.

You assume, that the percentage refers the font-size of the paragraph, but that
is not correct. It refers the font-size value of its parent style. The
predefined style "Emphasis" has no parent style at all.

I have created a suitable test document for bug 101783. (I have noticed this
bug only after the other has already been submitted.)

This idea will not work in LibreOffice Writer. First of all we have a classic
user interface that is familiar to the users, and they want to keep it. Using
tabs below the content in order to switch the view is also not really
up-to-date (actually very outdated and rejected because the controls are out of
the visual focus). Writer provides view modes per main menu. What I miss a good
reason to put much effort in this task. I mean do you have any problem
switching the view using our method?

Talking about "navigational aids" the LibreOffice way is to present them in the
Navigator. Admittedly there is room for improvements
(https://design.blog.documentfoundation.org/2016/07/31/how-the-navigator-may-support-object-handling-in-libreoffice-draw/)
but it doesn't mean to change the interaction concept. So I close this ticket
as WONTFIX.

Expected behavior: The size of the word "size" follows the changes in the
parent style "Basis".
Observed behavior: The size does not change.

Save and reload the document. Now the word "size" get the totally wrong size
value 24pt.

Open the style "Basis200%" on tab "Font" for Modify. Click on OK without
changing anything. Now the size of the word "size" is set correctly to double
of what you have set in style "Basis".

If you look in the standards for the correct behavior, then notice, that in
section "20.183 fo:font-size" it is explicitly said, that for percent the
parent style is used as reference.

So I set worksforme.

It works correctly for font size in paragraph style. For font size in character
styles it is correct in the file, but the UI does not adapt automatically. So
you need to save and reload to see the change, if the size in the parent style
is changed. But that is a bug and therefore needs a new bug report.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 87902] Default page margins

2016-08-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87902

--- Comment #12 from Yousuf (Jay) Philips ---
(In reply to Regina Henschel from comment #9)
> Bugs in OOo about changing the defaults were closed with the hint, that
> users can easily set their own default document template.
>
> I think, this demonstrates, that there does not exist a "correct" margin. So
> 2cm is a neutral start value.

Yes there definitely isnt a "correct" margin that will suit everyones needs,
just like there is no "correct" page size or font size that will suit everyones
needs, but we are looking for a good default that is very common so most users
dont have to change this default, especially novice users (e.g. benjamin) who
wont know how to modify their default template.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APA_style
http://www.apastyle.org/learn/quick-guide-on-formatting.aspx
APA style is a format for academic documents such as journal articles and
books. ... Set uniform margins of at least 1 in. (2.54 cm) on the top, bottom,
left, and right of every page.

http://practicaltypography.com/page-margins.html
https://www.reference.com/education/standard-margins-dd752171075eac9d
Most word processors default to page margins of one inch. On standard 8.5"×
11" paper, that produces a line length of 6.5 inches. That’s fine for
typewriter-style monospaced fonts, which use a lot of horizontal space.
But for proportional fonts, one-inch margins are too small. ... At 12 point,
left and right page margins of 1.5–2.0 inches will usually give you a
comfortable line length.

Maybe it would be useful to do a poll to see what margins users use in their
documents, and whether their profession dictates these margins.

When implementing this feature, we should be mindful of prior MSO

2016-08-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon

OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED

  Reporter: hisansh...@gmail.com

I have been plagued with multiple crashes of Libre Office when saving ODS files
originally created in XLS format.
This happened with versions earlier than 5.1.4.2
This seems to be solved by just saving these files in their original XLS format
and not as ODS files.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101739] Upgraded to newer version, now no versions will open

2016-08-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101739

@KT :

1) Sounds like a damaged installation, and probably your attempts to re-install
older versions over the top of an existing failed upgrade have compounded the
difficulties.

2) Let's try things progressively : deactivate the Gatekeeper security feature
under System Preferences > Security, and then click on the radio button "From
anywhere" (which means allow the launching of apps downloaded from anywhere).
You can always reset this back to the default setting once LibreOffice has been
started at least once.

3) Now try and restart LibreOffice. Note down any error messages you see and
report them here. If the application starts, then great, you have solved your
problem, if not then move onto step (4) below.

4) Remove any traces of LibreOffice.app bundle in your /Applications folder.

5) Remove, or more preferably, rename, any traces of your LibreOffice user
configuration folder in your Volumes/Users/myuser/Library/Application Support/
folder (this is a hidden folder by default so use Shift-Cmd-G to navigate to
it.

6) Download LibreOffice again and reinstall it. Do not install any language
packs before launching LibreOffice at least once.

The Gatekeeper settings should still be set to allow any downloaded application
to be launched. Once the copy operation has completed, start LibreOffice via
the Applications folder menu from the Dock. The application should start,
however, if you get an error message saying that the application is damaged,
you can try forcing the launch of the application by opening your Applications
folder, and right-mouse button clicking on the LibreOffice application icon,
and choosing "Open".

7) Once LibreOffice has started at least once, you can install any language
packs that you need.

Doubt there are any intents of making Writer Web a full fledged gui html editor
with a source code modification mode, but lets see what devs think of how
difficult this would be to achieve.

Since I installed the new LibreOffice 5.2.0.4 the program (until now I tried
writer and calc) crashes frequently, without traceable reason and with an
unspecified Error-Code, just "Error!".

I move back to 5.1.2.5.

Screenshot of the problem in KeyID locale

When hovering over a template in the Templates window a tooltip appears with
the name and category of the given template. In English there is a space
between the template name and the Category word, but in the localized UI there
is no separator.

In Pootle, I see there is a \n between the name and category of the template:
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/hu/libo_ui/translate/#search=cqcsl=notes

For the record, it's this string:
#. CQCsL
#: doc.src
msgctxt ""
"doc.src\n"
"STR_TEMPLATE_TOOLTIP\n"
"string.text"
msgid ""
"Title: $1\n"
"Category: $2"

So it does not work as intended even in English, and even worse in Hungarian.Sc

72390 is the same issue.

As a reference, open attachment 72390 in MS Word 2007. You will clearly how MS
chose to handle the problem. I like the interaction there, but I do think it
would be impressive to easily be able to resize the box and make it narrower or
wider (and also the formula text size). Don't see how (if it indeed is) that's
easily achieved in Word 2007.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 92617] Base is crashing frequently when EDITING data and switching Forms

Thanks for keeping at this one!

I have gone back to my (stupidly complex) original source of this problem and
taken out the work-around I put in place to stop crashes. The work-around was
to refuse to exit the whole form (done by selecting a button on the form) when
the focus was in the sub-form, and just put the focus on a field in the main
form instead. The user then had to exit the form by pressing the button again.

So I took out the work-around, and now it works as it should!

I'm now on Version: 5.2.1.1
Build ID: 1:5.2.1~rc1-0ubuntu1~xenial0
CPU Threads: 8; OS Version: Linux 4.4; UI Render: default;
Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8); Calc: group

I'll be using my application for real (as opposed to a slightly artificial test
mode) again in a few days time. If all goes well without the work-around I'll
close the report, marking it fixed.

Is that OK?

Thanks to all
