Open a firebird-database, for example

Write something into the table, change data ...
Close the table.
No try to close the *.odb-file.
The comes a popup if the data could be saved.
Try to save the data. 

On my systems this leads every time to a hang. I could do nothing except to
kill LO and restart.

Thanks for the screenshots Bruno, I understand now. However, I can not
reproduce your problem on any of my Mac machines, irrespective of LibreOffice
version.

By any chance, in your LibreOffice preferences, can you see whether OpenGL is
activated ? If it is, try deactivating it, and restarting LibreOffice.

I was testing v5.3 in a LM MATE VM. the version is

I have tested the same document there without a problem.

I will now reinstall the the version I downloaded from main website
(http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/) - the prerelease
version at the bottom of the page.

I did a "normal" install of v5.3 from the downloaded files. synaptic  reflects
v5.3, yet when I open writer or calc, it reflects the version number as
Version: 5.2.5.0.0+ (which I reinstalled after purging LO.)

I will now remove LO and do the reinstall of 5.3 again.

yesterday, when I attempted to change format of some text to italics, the way
the screen flashed it seemed as if it was looping in some way. 

Today, it does not do this, but gets the same error on saving.

I created a new document, but got the same "styles.xml" problem - and I cannot
save the document, as before.

So I cannot send you an example.

I removed LO again, and downloaded fro DEV
(http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/libreoffice-5-3/Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@70-TDF/current/)

Installed again - same problem, cannot save.

I thought it might have been because there was something missing, so I removed
LO again, installed LO 5.1.4 from Software Manager, then installed 5.3 again.
5.1.4 works fine, 5.3 still has save problem.

Removed LO again and reinstalled the last working version I was using: 5.2.5,
downloaded from DEV site.

works fine.

When I tried 5.3 the first time, this was from the DEV site. 5.2.5 was active.
5.3 did not work, but I thought this was because of a conflict with 5.2.5 so I
did not investigate it further.

Please note that in the VM, LO 5.1.4 and 5.3 are working quite happily
together. But the OS is LM MATE 18

Seems to be an issue with LMC 18.1? Is there some dependence on MONO? This has
been worked out of LMC18.1. This is the only thing I can think of.

Conditional Formatting: Necessary text boxes are not shown on "Condition
Formatting" dialog when "between" or "not between" is selected as condition. 

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Calc.
2. Select any cells.
3. Click "Conditional formatting" button on tool bar or "Format" ->
"Conditional Formatting" -> "Conditon..." on menu bar
4. Select 'between' or 'not between' from the drop-down list for conditions.


Actual Results:  
only a text box is shown.

Expected Results:
two text boxes are shown: one for max value and the other for minimum value.

Hi again,

I remember how baffled I was when I first encountered this stuff in early
Access versions many years ago. It is the first big thing that is quite
different in Base from say, a spreadsheet.  So I feel it is very important to
help the new user quickly understand this data setup, as being so fundamental
to using forms and subforms.  I want more people to use Base.  So I want it to
be easier to use.  

I suppose there are three ways that this all could be more clear:


1) First, I think the name `Analyze SQL command` could be more to the point. 
Is it possible to rename it to `Enable Filter and Sort`?  (BTW. MS Access calls
this same feature `Enable Filter`.)  I would think this would be the first,
best way to improve overall clarity.


2) But failing that, is there some way to produce a hover mode flyout help
message explaining this property better, i.e. saying that what it actually does
is: enable the Filter and Sort properties?


3) Or failing even that, there might be better F1 help.  See my specific
suggestions below.  Also I think the F1 help needs usage examples.  I suggest
you give a few examples for each and every one of these parameters.  I think
people learn much more quickly from examples than from explanations.


Here is what I suggest for help verbiage:

Content type

To select the data your form will operate on, select a `Content type` and then
specify a related `Content`.  Later you can also possibly specify a Filter
criteria and/or Sort specification.  Content types:

Table/View - To read or write to a Table or View, set `Content type` to `Table`
and `Content` to a table or view's name.

Query - To read or write to a query, set `Content type` to `Query` and
`Content` to a query's name.

SQL - To read or write to a data set described by a SQL statement, set `Content
type` to `SQL` and `Content` to the actual SQL code to specify the data set.

Examples:
Content type Table
ContentPayroll

Content type Query
Content Payroll query

Content type SQL
Content ( SELECT FirstName, LastName FROM Payroll )


Notes:

* If you wish to create or write records, any table needs to be writeable, and
any query or SQL needs to be updatability.

* Each Form and SubForm has it's own independent (but possibly overlapping)
data set.  A SubForm's data set is often linked to its parent's form with
special criteria which filter a subset of the SubForm's data.

* See also: `Filter` and `Sort`

* If using a SubForm see also:  `Link Master Fields`, and `Link Slave Fields`. 
These engage additional selection criteria dependent on the parent's form.

Enter any criteria desired to limit the data read via Content Type and Content.
 Format of this criteria is the same as for a SQL WHERE statement. 

This is only one of two possible filter stages, the other one being a subform
link that produces it's own, additional data filtering so that a subform can
respond to what is selected in a master form.

Example:

FilterFirstName='Fred'

* simple signing of the update files
* silent updater for limited user accounts on windows

* a decent security review (e.g. at least the points raised by the Mozilla
security team need to be handled) (especially the silent update service is a
high risk piece of code)
* handling of staged updates on windows (work around for the nasty file is
still in use problem on windows)


Now most of the stuff is already implemented in our updater branch. I even
managed to get the update service building and have most of the security stuff
adapted to our code. To show that an alternative is better you need to cross at
least these points from the list and show that it is less work to integrate it
correctly than it is to finish the current code.

How are they related? There is a huge difference between some release format
(they are already all platform dependent) and introducing 3 platform dependent
update mechanisms. This means 3 times the code and 3 times the attack surface.

Yes, I will not do the work necessary to enable the feature on OSX. However the
code is there and you just need to find a developer to spend a bit of time
enabling the feature. It is not that it would not work, just that I will not
spend my free time debugging platform problems and dealing with OSX. Mozilla's
updater code works on OSX and all the platform bits are already in our repo.

Did anyone here who says that the mar based updater is a bad idea and sparkle
is such a good idea have ever looked into the code. Especially all the security
stuff related to installing automated updates. Do you really want to audit 3
different frameworks? Do you really suppose that you will find developers
willing to maintain 3 different update frameworks. I suppose I have better
chances convincing all other developers to just drop OSX support.

The core of this bug I should have mentioned.   Is that is too hard under Linux
currently to create .desktop files.

xdg-open command was created to allow files to be opened with default
application.   So its really not that hard to code up a .desktop file to open a
document and have it behave like a OS X alias or Windows lnk/shortcut the issue
is Linux/BSD/Unixish file managers and graphical environment currently don't
provide this.

After that there is then the issue of opening .desktop files with libreoffice
and extracting the document hidden.   Of course that bug in libreoffice cannot
be opened until Linux file managers and environment work out exactly how they
are going to do the .desktop file in this case.

There are a lot of projects closing bugs with NOTABUG that should be closed
with NOTOURBUG and then provide the person complaining about issue where they
should be taking the issue.   In this case its file managers and environment
issues that are not libreoffice domain.

Symlink issue how it should be handled that is a standard body issue that has
not been addressed.   So there are more than 2 real bugs here.

Yes every file manager for Linux basically has a bug when it comes to .desktop
files so that is quite a number of bugs.

In that .xlsx document the drawing.xml files are huge (about 35 lines per
sheet).

Description:
The English US dictionary hasn't been updated since 2011. This means there are
plenty of new words that aren't in the LibreOffice spellcheck dictionary such
as the words:
cyberattack, iPhone, Xbox, Uber, Lyft, TechCrunch, and many, many more.
Microsoft Word recognizes all of these words natively. 

Speaking of which, "natively" is also not in the LibreOffice dictionary.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable US English Dictionary
2. Type in cyberattack, iPhone, Xbox, Uber, Lyft, TechCrunch, or natively
3. According to LibreOffice, these words don't exist

Actual Results:  
Words are marked incorrectly with no correct spelling suggestions.

Expected Results:
Words should be marked correctly or if typed incorrectly, these words should be
given as suggestions.

 I have found something very interesting in LIbreOffice 5.2.4.2 (Newly
Released).  The program still Terminates with the error messages.

Maybe this will help someone identify the problem. I'm running Mac OS 10.12.2.
After you drag the "LibreOffice.app" Icon  to your applications folder the
first time, LibreOffice will execute correctly.

Here's where it get Weird..

The program runs correctly the first time it is launched. However, if you quit
the application and try to bring up the program again, you receive the error
message ("Ignore" "Report" "Reopen").

Here's what I found and LibreOffice application will work every time:

If I go into the MacOS folder in the Contents folder and Click on "soffice
Exec", the application FIRST  executes the Terminal.app under
/applications/Utilities, and after a small delay, it executes the LibreOffice
application.

The application can now be used normally, but ONLY if you keep the "Terminal"
application running. The second you terminate the Terminal.app, LibreOffice
terminates.

Somewhere in the "LibreOffice.app" there is code killing the Terminal.app.
Maybe it's supposed to be running in the background and a pointer in the
application terminates the Terminal.app when you select "Quit LibreOffice" from
the file menu.

BottomLine:

Closing the Terminal.app, under the Utilities folder, will terminate the entire
"LIbreOffice" program. (The Terminal Window remains open)

I don't know if I'm explaining this so anyone can understand it, because I'm
not (by profession), a programmer. However, I can see somewhere in the compiled
version of "soffice" Exec file, the script is telling the Terminal.app to exec
first, THEN to execute LIbreOffice.

Here's how I now have to use this application:

1. I execute "soffice" from the MacOS folder (MUST be executed from this
folder)
2. Wait for the Terminal.app to execute and bring up the Terminal Window
3. Keep the Terminal.app running.
4. After a short time, LibreOffice comes up "Normally"
5. Using the "Quit LIbreOffice" on the menu file, I can see the Terminal.app
being told to exit and LibreOffice ends.

If the Terminal.app is not running, LibreOffice will crash every time.

I hope this helps.

I can duplicate this procedure repeatedly and LibreOffice works using the above
method.

I don't know enough about the internals and can't evaluate if bug 105055 is a
duplicate of bug 104969 really or not.

Originally bug 105055 (Shutdown of LO hangs) was part of bug 104969, because I
have produced both cases with the same test document - see comments 1, 2 and 5!

The ways to reproduce both problems are nearly the same (copy + paste a cell
without or with inserted comment) but the results are different:

1. copy + paste cell without comment --> LO crashes while shutdown --> fixed by
patch from Markus Mohrhard in LO 5.4.0 (see comment_3)

2. copy + paste cell with comment --> shutdown of LO hangs and new start of LO
is hindered --> not fixed by the patch!!!

Therefore I have reported the new bug 105055 for the second case, see also the
last sentence in comment 6 from Markus Mohrhard!

I played a bit with this dialog:

The ... button next to the "Content" list box is not activated when "Analyze
SQL command" is set to Yes (or even to No).
Instead the "Content type" needs to be set to "SQL command" for that.
Setting "Analyze SQL command" to No makes the Filter and Sort field inactive,
this could be mentioned in the help of this command.

Also the text for "Content type" ends with this "not exactly true" sentence:
"You can then enter the statement for the SQL query or the subform directly in
the List content box on the Control properties Data tab page." - as in, there
is no "List content box", this should be "Content list box" too.

Open any base file.
Select a table or query and from the context menu 'Report Wizard'
Add a column or two and execute the report.
Close the report. Saving it or not makes no difference.
Close the base file.
The temp odt file created when the report was displayed is now listed on the
main LbreOffice window.

make the AbstractDialog stuff extend from VclReferenceBase
Because some stuff wants to multiple-inherit from VclAbstractDialog and
OutputDevice-subclasses, and we'd prefer to keep all the lifetime
management through a single smart pointer class (VclPtr)

The change in msgbox.cxx and window.cxx is to workaround a bug in
VS2013 to do with virtual inheritance and delegating constructors.

I have found, that the problem is in the initial value of the option "Use
OpenGL for all rendering". It is initially checked although the info text is
"GL is currently disabled". It seems to be a somehow mixed state in the
beginning.

If I uncheck the option and restart LibreOffice, then the rendering is OK. It
stays correct, if I enable the option later. The text "GL is currently
disabled" is always there, whether the option is checked or not.

Formula and screenshot of rendering

Open attached file and look how the formula in the top left corner is rendered.

I have an own build, which gives a wrong rendering with this formula
(screenshot in the file). I don't know whether there is something wrong with my
build or with the settings in "instdir", or if it is really a problem in
master. So if you have a current own build, please have a look.

I build with cygwin MSVC 2013 on Windows 7, 32 bit.

You'll do best to make the changes using paragraph styles.

Each paragraph will have a style applied. Select all, and then apply the same
style to all--normally that would be "Default style". But any style would do. 

Check that each paragraph actually has the same style applied--if not select
all and apply the same (e.g. Styles -> "Text Body" or "Default Paragraph").

Edit the style for the selection (Style -> Edit Style), and check the "Indents
& Spacing" tab for spacing "above paragraph", "below paragraph", and line
spacing from the drop list.

Please work through that and close if your issue is resolved by using styles
correctly.

In special cases shutdown of LibreOffice (LO) is not completed. In the Task
Manager remain 2 LO processes. When one then tries to start LO again (one time
or repeatedly), it seems that LO doesn't start, but in the Task Manager appear
4 or more LO processes, belonging pairwise one to another. Only when the "old"
processes are cancelled in the Task Manager, LO really opens.
Then it says (only in LO 5.3.0 RC1, not in LO 5.4.0): "Leider scheint
LibreOffice bei der letzten Verwendung abgestürzt zu sein." (Unfortunately
LibreOffice seems to have crashed during the last use.). 

Simple way to reproduce the behavior:
- open LO
- File -> New -> Spreadsheet
- enter something in cell A1
- insert a comment to cell A1
- copy complete (!) cell A1 into clipboard
- paste clipboard content into any other cell (e.g. A2 or B1)
- save the document and close LO --> Shutdwon of LO hangs: LO Windows is
closed, but in the task manager remain 2 LibreOffice processes and hinder a new
start of LO

Description:
I installed LibreOffice on an iMac for a friend which had one Admin user and
two other (non-admin) users. The app only showed up in the Applications folder
for the Admin user and not in the Applications folders for the two other users.
I had to use the Terminal to execute "sudo chown root:wheel LibreOffice.apm" in
the /Applications directory, then it became visible to the other users as well.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get an iMac
2. Set up at least one non-admin user
3. Log-in as the Admin user and install LibreOffice

Actual Results:  
Using the vanilla install, there was no LibreOffice in the non-admin user's
Applications folder.

Expected Results:
It would be better if there was an icon for LibreOffice in the non-admin user's
Applications folder.

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
The visibility of the app to the non-admin users(s) is granted when executing
the following in a Terminal window:-

The mar based updater code is actually quite good. I'm not sure why people
recommend to use something else without having had a look into the code.

The only problems with the mar based updater are infra problems. Otherwise the
code solves many problems that big and complex projects like LibreOffice or
Firefox have. Additionally the Mozilla security team did a quite good analysis
of the problem space and raised many security issues that are fixed. Does
anyone here volunteer to do the same security audit for any other system?

I'm happy to hand over the work on an automated updater if someone wants to
deal with all these boring low level platform details.

Screen shot of line spacing irregularities

While I use line spacing to space out lines 
there were variations in in the spacing i observed.

I choose 1.15 as line spacing for the entire document, however, for all thoses
lines that continue to next line without a line break, the spacing is
significatnly shorter that a next line that comes out of a line break/enter
key.

Here is the screen shot. So why does this differ between the contigious next
line and a line break next line

shortcut menu

Suggested new shortcut menu editing tool:

While editing a form select two or more controls.  Then right Click on them and
a shortcut menu appears.  Add a Size tool.

Similar to the Align tools, add a "Size" set, as follows:

* Size to widest
* Size to narrowest
* Size to tallest
* Size to shortest
* Size to fit
* Size to grid

"Size to widest" makes all selected controls have the width of the widest
selected control.  Size to narrowest, tallest, and shortest, are similar.

"Size to fit", is used for labels and fixed text boxes and makes the box just
big enough for the contained text.

"Size to grid", increases the size just slightly to make item an exact multiple
of the grid size.

These simple tools would make it much easier to accurately build and align
complex forms.

Forms Navigator showing Forms selected

In Form Navigator when "Forms" is selected (top of the tree) and when the
properties dialog is open showing properties of the selected item in the Form
Navagator, suggest changing the properties dialog title from "No control
selected" to "No form selected".

Although I get it that a form is just really a type of control, I think it is
misleading, especially to the new users, when clicking on Forms, to see "No
control selected".

I think this is a pretty simple change that would help improve the user
interface.

I Followed the instructions that shows the advice, but I'm in the same

The document wasn't created with windows and when I try to execute the command:

sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

the system shows the message: "ttf-mscorefonts-installer is already in its most
recent version".

I don't know what to do. Do you need more information?

Modified pivot styles

Checking back old UX tickets this one popped up. Actually we have pivot styles
for category, corner, field, result, title, and value, and we could change the
default styles and introduce background colors. Not the preferred approach,
IMHO.
Another option is to have more than one style, meaning not only Default but
also Rainbow, or the like, and means to quickly change all properties.
So this ticket is either a WFM or we should change its direction (probably
there is also a duplicate).

preference pane. I will forward you in the following day a screenshot of this
also. The theme used is the default one coming with the installation. No
specific theme has been chosen and for the default font I don't know. When
reading the preference pane in a working libre office there is no clear
information on the font. Where do you want me to search for that ?

Cannot reproduce the issue. The snap ping area is there at the left and the
right edge of the main window. Its size is like for every normal toolbar. Even
the Navigator works under Windows (you can always press shift+ctrl+F10 to
dock/undock the focused sidebar or Navigator, which is relevant on Linux). It
would be a good idea to show the shortcut in the context menu with the
undock/dock entry.

Setting as easyHack (just add the text to the context menu) and needsDevEval
for the code pointers.
