[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 104001] Text wrapping in writer on Linux is different to on Windows
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104001 --- Comment #6 from Ernest Bywater--- (In reply to Buovjaga from comment #5) > Ok, thanks. Yep, it would be hard to investigate the Palatino font issue > because it is a proprietary font and cannot be distributed for free! If you > can reproduce it with some free font, you can create a new issue. The main reason I use Palatino Linotype is because it presents well in a printed 6 x 9 inch book format and 'seems' to display the same in both Linux and Windows. Although i used to regularly use a Win 7 system, now I rarely do, and have to make special arrangements to do so - thus the delay in giving my last response. I'm not familiar with what fonts come in a standard Windows installation that would also be the same in a standard Linux installation, so I don't know what font I can convert a document to so I can do a comparison. I do know that the Windows fonts I used to use, like Time New Roman and Courier, are very similar to, but not exactly the same as the Linux equivalents. If you can tell me of a font that's free to use in both and either in the standard installation or easy to get, I can do tests with that. ... Some background on why I lodged this in the first place. I've been using Libre Office on both Linux and Windows systems for many years, I think the first version I used was LO 3 something - I can't remember that far back too well. I was using Open Office before that. I gave up on using MS Word when I had to upgrade from Win XP with Word 6a. After looking at costs and trying out the latest crappy Windows and Word offerings I built a Linux system using Ubuntu, and have since moved onto using Zorin Linux. However, I spent a lot of time at another place doing volunteer working keeping an eye things and using their Windows XP, and later Windows 7 systems to work on my stories. They let me load first Open Office and then Libre Office on the system there. The stories and files opened exactly the same on both system until I upgraded to LO 5.2.2.2 on both systems, and then experienced the problem I raised this bug about. I dealt with the issue by adjusting some of the page settings and revising some of the wording to make the text fall back into nice pages again. However, about 5 months back I ceased working where I used the Win 7 system, so it ceased to be an issue for me, and that's why I have issues checking things on a Win 7 system now. It no longer affects me, and it appears to be resolved (as best as i can tell). But I don't know enough to be sure because it in a 50,000 word document it still affected two pages where a single paragraph ran over 600 words and it pushed one or two short words over onto a new line to create a re-pagination and a very odd looking orphan. I suspect the issue may be related to the way the font spacing is in Windows, but can't prove if it is or isn't - I just don't have the training to go further with it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99125 Gerhard Weydtchanged: What|Removed |Added Summary|Property ParaBackColor in |Property ParaBackColor in |Writer can no longer be set |Writer can no longer be set |via Basic |via Uno command --- Comment #15 from Gerhard Weydt --- In comment #11 Tibor kovács suggested another way to set the paragraph background colour, via a paragraph style. I have used this (already sketched in comment 13) now in my extension DCM, where changing background colour was temporarily disabled because of this bug. Many thanks to Tibor, Butch will certainly agree, see comment #14. The workaround is using two crutches, namely creating a style and then undoing ist, and setting the background colour via the dispatcher, so the urgency of working on the bug is not decreased by it! It would be very helpful if someone could try to fix this as it currently prevents screen reader users from using Calc on Linux. # bad: [1bfd8dda84f0dd2c5662b64f382637d75b8bf227] source sha:6238f71ddbdc766e733b1c808a4fa7d66f7bde87 # good: [33e60eae04c889baf52713a73dc9944015408914] source sha:5b168b3fa568e48e795234dc5fa454bf24c9805e git bisect start 'origin/master' 'oldest' # bad: [964789dfd0674f0447da363a8c52114097796fa3] source sha:e473e0e1b9bc354d53908cb0ca84db06c3051fe2 git bisect bad 964789dfd0674f0447da363a8c52114097796fa3 # good: [e076e507d65a9ac4e63569e22b7384a0eb67c5a0] source sha:8550366138d576123b9e66a1a7915a04026d79cd git bisect good e076e507d65a9ac4e63569e22b7384a0eb67c5a0 # skip: [d52331d7197320082f2a7c0454b23559937e2e78] source sha:66a117c8473cfa8181e139e406470428edffd32c git bisect skip d52331d7197320082f2a7c0454b23559937e2e78 # bad: [e0ff56e8f13715625a8b478460d1fd70a137d9d1] source sha:8bb1726007f641dff2aa17d2e79a089e09fd9770 git bisect bad e0ff56e8f13715625a8b478460d1fd70a137d9d1 # good: [a4f5801d68e3d73326ebdc2a1baebbdd4d79d3de] source sha:e646286c306fc92867641cc399f640b69c0ec62a git bisect good a4f5801d68e3d73326ebdc2a1baebbdd4d79d3de # bad: [0b33f68e36cd7c515a0a4be5f96f02a111767ebe] source sha:9dc3356f1499a2b90078be86ca7470eb2e96aba8 git bisect bad 0b33f68e36cd7c515a0a4be5f96f02a111767ebe # good: [76ee145a0b29f73225f917adb7aef67ca26b6042] source sha:3c425926d48e513937ad727a56ab7744ca379e63 git bisect good 76ee145a0b29f73225f917adb7aef67ca26b6042 # bad: [0f300ca4517ac7844e6de8bc4f01795a891ea731] source sha:0d8cc6e3a1e110ccdd260cbceb769f0a8083ae26 git bisect bad 0f300ca4517ac7844e6de8bc4f01795a891ea731 # good: [d4ab6329c8f2f36c70f03c1583217a58b3151877] source sha:35595869d19f052cb585c82a1a7e174debb944b0 git bisect good d4ab6329c8f2f36c70f03c1583217a58b3151877 # good: [6a47f2e47262e635c2c2bbe396db696c076aef3e] source sha:56823b52e50b6229265e92724732c123d1567e3c git bisect good 6a47f2e47262e635c2c2bbe396db696c076aef3e # good: [adbd9e1998483b1520b228543cde0580a857826e] source sha:9b47a8b21f87fa77d2d61ac4a2c2bbc7c0d67a19 git bisect good adbd9e1998483b1520b228543cde0580a857826e # bad: [cc5dd64b38938f06aa02e717c11f6d4356309289] source sha:27328034f5e2644b4a0287532e762e87ea36c4a0 git bisect bad cc5dd64b38938f06aa02e717c11f6d4356309289 # good: [a71cb0b5f8cd2082bbf56fec1dfe70e487ae741f] source sha:b4f6abd4ba8c3a65216af3910a32cb1dc089ef5f git bisect good a71cb0b5f8cd2082bbf56fec1dfe70e487ae741f # good: [f1558b33d4e88087bae1e3344ea67bd47d5a8820] source sha:d7a0bc2a7eab58311f3925d0ce9b2b863188bfe8 git bisect good f1558b33d4e88087bae1e3344ea67bd47d5a8820 # first bad commit: [cc5dd64b38938f06aa02e717c11f6d4356309289] source sha:27328034f5e2644b4a0287532e762e87ea36c4a0 # good: [f1558b33d4e88087bae1e3344ea67bd47d5a8820] source sha:d7a0bc2a7eab58311f3925d0ce9b2b863188bfe8 git bisect good f1558b33d4e88087bae1e3344ea67bd47d5a8820 # first bad commit: [cc5dd64b38938f06aa02e717c11f6d4356309289] source sha:27328034f5e2644b4a0287532e762e87ea36c4a0 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108546 --- Comment #6 from Michael von Preußen--- Created attachment 134070 --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=134070=edit Graphical mockup depicting desired result. Hi Jacques, Unfortunately, this does not solve my problem. I do not want the entire document in multiple columns, I want a specific section of the footnotes in multiple columns. To better illustrate my desired outcome, I have attached a graphical mockup of the effect I wish to achieve. Again, it is not currently possible to achieve this effect, because of the bug in question: the portion of the mockup in red text is the portion which cannot currently be achieved. I will in a subsequent attachment include this document as it actually exists, to illustrate the difference between the desired outcome and the actual outcome. Using sections to format a portion of the document in multiple columns works elsewhere in the document, as I have illustrated in my attachment, just not in the footnotes. Furthermore, even if allowing a section within the footnotes to be in multiple columns is not meant to be a supported feature (in which case I would certainly argue it should be, but setting that aside), a bug still exists, as the program *says* the section is in multiple columns, when it is not actually formatted as such. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108572 Bug ID: 108572 Summary: Mail merge: embedded database isn't properly discarded when working with MS Office starting documents Product: LibreOffice Version: 5.4.0.0.beta2 Hardware: All OS: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Writer Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: ba...@caesar.elte.hu Created attachment 134067 --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=134067=edit Sample starting document (DOCX) Attaching an overly simplistic sample mail merge starting document (DOCX) and address list (ODS, but format doesn't matter), but the behavior is independent of the content. - Open the starting document (DOCX). - Start mail merge wizard. - Jump to step 3. Insert address block, open Select Address List... and after clicking Add..., select the address list spreadsheet. Click OK in the dialog. - Cancel mail merge wizard, and close Writer without saving anything. - Restart LibreOffice, and check databases in Tools -> Options...; LibreOffice Base -> Databases. => There is a database with the address list spreadsheet file name ("data source" in the sample), and something like this for database file: "vnd.sun.star.pkg://file:%2F%2F%2FD:%2Fbug%2Fmm%20document.docx/EmbeddedDatabase" Note that no such entry remains if the starting document is an ODT. While nothing was saved in this case, the same thing happens if the document is saved as DOCX/DOC, as embedded database doesn't get saved in MS Office formats, yet the database remains in the list afterwards. It would be great if defunct embedded database entries were removed on start in general (a crash with the file open could leave one even in case of ODTs). Observed using LO 5.4beta2 / Windows 7. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 87902] Default page margins
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87902 --- Comment #17 from V Stuart Foote--- >From dupe bug 49529, very different issues when setting a single page (e.g. non-bound) electronic document compared to something intended to be edge bound. Frankly in modern use, most of the moveable type "cannons" [1] are nonsense, but can be implemented with document templates if needed/preferred for bound layouts. The "Double-Circle" single-page cannon [2] has merit for preparing new defaults based on locale. But as most publication styles (i.e. CSL) specify specific page size and corresponding margins for submission--our existing defaults--A4/2cm and Letter/.79in--are acceptable to vast majority of LO users. Others with more specialized needs should be preparing templates. =-ref-= [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canons_of_page_construction [2] https://eegg.wordpress.com/2010/01/25/page-margins-in-principle-and-practice -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

I'm not sure if it is a duplicate but it seems connected to Bug 40105 in which changing between "Web" and "Normal" views likewise produces a change in the document focus. The expected behavior is that any change in view remains anchored to the location of the cursor or some part of the document that is visible at time of view change.
