[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 111932] EDITING: Inconsistent interaction between indentation and tabulation

Y  changed:

--- Comment #3 from Y  ---
Dear Regina, Thanks for your comments.

Re comment 1: Why is the indent behavior different for numbered paragraphs,
and how is it different? Frankly, all I want is to set TAB STOPS -- it is
irrelevant whether the paragraph is numbered, bulleted, or plain.

Correct me if I am wrong: all types of paragraphs have three indents: (a)
before text, (b) after text, and (c) first line; and then they can have zero or
more tab stops. All I need is that they be treated consistently when there is
a TAB character -- does not matter if that TAB character is the result of
numbering, or if it is part of the body text. Either the Before text indent
should be treated like a tab stop; or the user interface should allow to set a
tab stop overlapping the before text mark.

Re comment 2: What makes you think that the problem in bug 100383 is similar or
even related to my problem? My problem has nothing to do with indent level, it
is purely a tabulation problem.

Being able to increase/decrease text size of a webpage is one thing. Choosing
the best, ideal font size for unstyled body text is another. The best, ideal
CSS font size for unstyled body text for everyone is '100%' or '1em' or
'medium'.

The best, ideal CSS font size for unstyled body text for everyone is not
'11pt'. 11pt is an absolute font size unit.

Dan's Web Tips: Characters and Fonts (This page was first created 20 Jul 1997)
http://webtips.dan.info/char.html

- - - - - - -

The following CSS code comes (line 90 or so) from

https://helponline.libreoffice.org/5.4/default.css

p,
td {
font-size: 11pt;
margin: 2px 2px 2px 2px;
}
h1 {
font-size: 22pt;
}
h2 {
font-size: 14pt;
}
h3 {
font-size: 12pt;
}
h4,
h5,
h6 {
font-size: 11pt;
}

These values in pt unit are bad. Do not use pt for screen viewing. pt unit is
best for styling on media with known physical properties (like print).
Do not use an absolute unit for screen viewing.

Here are the values that all mainstream browsers use in their user agent style
sheet:

Chrome and Firefox:

Chrome 20 and higher

h1 {font-size: 2em; margin: 0.67em 0; font-weight: bold;}

h2 {font-size: 1.5em; margin: 0.83em 0;}

h3 {font-size: 1.17em;}

h4 no font-size declaration; its the same as '100%' or '1em' or 'medium'

h5 {font-size: 0.83em;}

h6 {font-size: 0.67em; Appendix D gives font-size: .75em;}

body no font-size declaration

p no font-size declaration

pre no font-size declaration // monospace

Firefox 20 and higher (see resource://gre-resources/html.css)

h1 {font-size: 2em; margin: 0.67em 0; font-weight: bold;}

h2 {font-size: 1.5em; margin: 0.83em 0;}

h3 {font-size: 1.17em;}

h4 {font-size: 1.00em;}

h5 {font-size: 0.83em;}

h6 {font-size: .67em; Appendix D gives font-size: .75em;}

body no font-size declaration

p no font-size declaration

pre no font-size declaration // monospace: font-family: -moz-fixed

All mainstream browsers use 'margin: 1em 0' for p elements. Such default is
generally good and will match the default (preferred by the user) font-size.

All mainstream browsers use 'padding: 1px' for td elements. Such default is
good 90% of the time, I would say.

There is no need to redefine or redeclare those preset-in-browsers values...
and if the design requires a change, then it's best to use relative unit like
em or %.

side by side samples of both delete methods

Pasted some text from a web page into an empty sheet. Some of the text
contained URL links. Deleting the URL text occurs differently depending on how
it's deleted.

Deleting with Delete key while cursor in:

* cell works as expected.

* text field deletes entire URL from cell; but only one character at a time in
text field where eyes are focused. This tricks the user into needing more
Delete key strokes which actually deletes the URL, then more text not intended
to be deleted. See "Invalid display" in attached image.

Two additional comments

1
To the original report add, 'and leave unattended under the blank screensaver
for at least twenty minutes preferably more than half an hour' then the window
to close or debug greats me. On using debug option I obtain 'Visual Studio
just-in-time debugger' "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in soffice.bin
[task PID]"

2
I have been trying out a parallel exercise in the same version of LibreOffice
Writer under the same Windows 10 update on the same 2nd gen i5 Core on a
Gigabyte h61 mb as opposed to an ASUS h61 mb. And nothing's happened yet!

I have a suspicion that the operating system has got a bit corrupted along the
line for there are a very few number of uncharacterisable feature dysfunctions
in other programs like IE11 and Edge. I think it's a bug but I'm not sure in
what!

Text on path examples

LibreOffice knows a "text on path" feature with several variants. They are
written to file in attributes of type draw:fontwork-xyz. These attributes
belong to OOo1.0, see dtd in share/dtd/officedocument/1.0/drawing.mod in your
installation. But these attributes do not belong to ODF.

I don't know, whether these attributes were simple forgotten or whether it was
intended to not include them.

This feature corresponds to the SVG element , only that
has not so many variants.

In the current situation LibreOffice would need to write the attributes in its
own namespace. I would prefer to get the attributes into ODF.

The example file is provided as .docx. The issue persists if the document is

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 114398] New: Calc, on reopen, messes up soft newlines pasted from RichText format

2017-12-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114398

Bug ID: 114398
   Summary: Calc, on reopen, messes up soft newlines pasted from
RichText format
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.4.3.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: hjg.com...@gmail.com

Description:
When copying a multiline text inside a Cell in Calc, in edit mode, if the text
is available in the Clipboard as Rich TExt Format and it contains soft newlines
(Shift-Enter), then the newlines are correctly shown in Calc. but after closing
and reopening they are lost, and the lines are all joined together (nor even a
blank/space to separate them).

See steps for detail.

It might not a big deal that "importing" loses some formatting. But 1) this is
more than formatting, 2) it looks very bad and unsettling that something looks
ok when working with the document, and when you save and reopen you get
something radically different.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a new Calc Spreadsheet . Enlarge the first cell, say to half the window
width and height.

2. Open Windows Wordpad (or some editor that copies in RichTextFormat) (*)
Type several lines separated not by hard end-of-paragraph newlines (Enter) but
instead by soft line-breaks (Shift+Enter) (**)

3. Select those lines, copy to clipboard (Ctrl-C)

4. In Calc, focus in the big cell in edit mode (F2), and paste from the
clipboard (Ctrl-V)

5. All should look basically ok (also if we switch to another cell, sheet,
document, etc). Close Calc, saving the file.

6. Open the saved document.

[*] I experienced this with a programmers text editor (EditPadPro) that, as a
bonus, copies the text also as rich text format.

[**] these in RTF correspond to \line commands

Actual Results:
Result: all newlines are gone. They are not even replaced by spaces, the
original lines are joined together (a mess).

Expected Results:
Lines should be lines. As were shown originally when copied inside Calc.

Reproducible: Always

Zoom uno commands (e.g. .uno:ZoomPage, .uno:Zoom100Percent) are already
localized, so it would be useful to use these already localized strings in the
statusbar zoom popup menu[2] rather than having them translated a second time.

Alternatively, the popup menu glade .ui file could be replaced by a popup .xml
file, similar to notebookbar.xml[3].

http://docs.oasis-open.org/office/v1.2/os/OpenDocument-v1.2-os-part2.odt and go
some pages down below the TOC. Mark some lines and then press Ctrl+C to copy
them to clipboard.

I get an assertion failed in sw/source/core/layout/atrfrm.cxx, line 2626.

There seems to be something special with this document. The bug does not occur
with a simple dummy text and not with part 1 of the spec.

Yes, I believe you are correct, this is a duplicate of bug 105368. I searched,
but did not find that bug.

To say this bug is annoying understates the severity in my opinion. The arrow
keys move the page while the object selected to be moved remains stationary at
the screen edge. Absolutely horrid behavior.

As I attempted to explain, this behavior is not limited to lines. It happens
with all types of objects. Lines are just the easiest test case to describe.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 78254] Substantial performance deterioration by scroll through cells via macro in LibreOffice Calc

Shane  changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||sh...@graduate.uwa.edu.au

--- Comment #15 from Shane  ---
I challenge whether this is truly of low importance and minor significance.
Perhaps it is because not too many people use complex macros? But for people
using any significant macros this represents a substantial obstacle to moving
to LibreOffice.

In my case I am trying to move to LibreOffice from OpenOffice but it has made
some of my automation unviable. If MS Office performance figures are so many
orders of magnitude better then one can only imagine it could also present a
major hurdle to uptake of LibreOffice for some MS Office users too.

If we know that a flood of GetOptimalHeightsInColumn calls seem to be the
culprit here is there any kind of workaround to improve scrolling speed in a
macro?

I have tried

ThisComponent.LockControllers
ThisComponent.addActionLock()

and

ThisComponent.CurrentController.Frame.ContainerWindow.setEnable(False)

and, without timing anything too accurately, none of these seem to have
improved performance of my macro at all - it always takes an unacceptably long
time in LibreOffice 5.4.3.2 compared to the same code running in OpenOffice
4.1.3 (which isn't fast but is tolerable)...

2017-12-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 114394
   Summary: Repeated crashes of libreoffice Impress and/or the
program/suite getting stuck
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.3.7.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Impress
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: greymalkin@gmail.com

Description:
Libreoffice Impress and Calc are both having problems on my machine. Especially
when using both at the same time, seemingly, they like to get hung up and
crash.
Sending an error report failed, I think (the program crashed yet again).
I am piecing together a presentation with a lot of pictures etc.
Most of it works great, and I already updated to the newest version (before
reinstall, after uninstalling the older version, I deleted the remaining stuff
from AppData).

The program is getting stuck when I try to perform normal operations, like
opening the settings for a table (imported from calc).

Machine: Windows 7 Ultimate, 8GB ram, Intel core-i52500

Version: 5.3.7.2 (x64)
Build-ID: 6b8ed514a9f8b44d37a1b96673cbbdd077e24059
CPU-Threads: 4; BS-Version: Windows 6.1; UI-Render: Standard; Layout-Engine:
neu;
Gebietsschema: de-DE (de_DE); Calc: group

I am willing to help, but I have had bad experiences with LibreOffice before.
I am aware that software development is difficult, especially when you have to
rely on funding etc. What can I do?
The last time i submitted a bug report, I just got the answer "Worksforme".
This is not satisfying and does not help me. So, if you need additional
information, please let me know.

Actual Results:
open the file, work a little on it, wait for a crash on a random action

Expected Results:
i have to close the program or it crashes, then I can restart it and keep
working.

Saving the original file as docx and reopening in 6.0 works for me. The
original docx shipped in the zip still misses the text box. Version 5.4 still
doesn't display the textbox.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 114392] New: MacOS: Increased CPU usage while typing

2017-12-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114392

Bug ID: 114392
   Summary: MacOS: Increased CPU usage while typing
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.4.0.3 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Mac OS X (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: tele...@surfxs.nl

Description:
Probably an implementation detail, but the CPU time spend for screen rendering
while typing has increased (not noticeable in daily usage) Likely doubled, but
not sure (hard the measure). It seems to spend more time with alpha bitmaps
handling.

Not sure what the impact is for a high res screen..

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch LibreOffice 5.4 or 6b2 or 6.1 alpha with Instrument using the time
profile
2. Start typing 4 rows of text.
3. Create also a time profile using Libreoffice 5.3.7.2
4. Compare both of the time profiles
* the 6.0 profile will be spiky/ 5.3. flatter..
* . Drill Down to SwRootFrame::PaintSwFrame(OutputDevice&, SwRect const&,
SwPrintData const*) const en compare the time spend while there.
5. Compare the results with LibreOffice 5.3.7.2

Actual Results:
It looks like more time is spend rendering

Expected Results:
The big question..

Reproducible: Always

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 114389] New: Footnote behaviour after doc and docx conversion

2017-12-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114389

Bug ID: 114389
   Summary: Footnote behaviour after doc and docx conversion
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.4.2.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: i...@kiddingthecity.org

Description:
When converting files into doc or docx and even after I have re-adjusted them
all on my end in LO, the footnotes behave very oddly: usually alighting the
first line towards the centre of the page (see screenshot 1
https://imgur.com/a/PAtKA) ... this gets worse as the editing process continues
(see screenshot 2 https://imgur.com/a/kZ4ic)

Steps to Reproduce:
1.converting files into doc or docx with footnotes
2. re-open in either MO or LO
3.

Actual Results:
footnote advances of a tab (at each time of opening)

Expected Results:
footnote should not increase by a tab (with links this becomes really evident
and annoying)

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
the main text in LO and in MO is set to have a first line indent to +1 to
distinguish paragraphs. The footnotes seem to reproduce that indent although
the style is not set for that and I have even changed the "Inherit from" style,
under the "Organiser" tab, for "Paragraph Style: Footnote Text". The tab
increases at each opening (at least 2-3 times)

Exporting as .EPS using LibreOffice-Draw and converting it to .SVG using other

Calculate print page ranges only when needed, cache in print state
When printing or exporting PDF, we need to calculate the page
print (cell) ranges for the current zoom level (document size).
This is quite a expensive thing to do as you need to inspect
the properties of individual cells.
The calculation ideally needs to be done only once per printing
request, but because of the rendering UNO API, this was done
everytime ScPrintFunc was instantiated, which is for every page
twice (once getRenderer is called and then when render is called).
To fix this performance issue, the print page ranges need to be
carried from one call to ScPrintFunc to the other. There already
is a print state (ScPrintState) which is used for exactly that,
but it didn't do this for print page ranges.
With this, PDF export time in a test case decreased from 17 sec to
around 3 sec.
