[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 116703] Make clear distinction on differences between "Export" and " Save As", and move items in those filters accordingly

Agree with Mike and Regina regards distinction to be made between what are
Export formats and what are Save-as.

The distinction here is less an issue of UX and Design and more an issue of ESC
and project management. If setting bounds (i.e. making distinctions in what
gets first-class effort) helps to focus dev efforts and the QA process it is a
good thing.

It can go too far, take GIMP XCF for example, but making the distinction helps
to constrain project scope. I've long held the subversive view that OOXML
should be an Export format, concentrate on ODF and SVG ;-)

IMHO citing HTML was just an unfortunate example. The Writer Web module is a
WYSIWYG mess held over from HTML 4.0 transitional with no support for inline
CSS nor any active content, essentially abandoned in place, with no movement on
bug 95861. And the supporting Web wizard was stripped out at 5.4 (bug
99967)--good riddance.

Fixed - likely by the fix for bug 105095 and thus fixed in 5.4.0.

(There are a few other bugs that really mangle this document on repeated

I keep being told that sentence punctuation belongs inside quotes or

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 116717] New: Writer 5.4.5.1 default page format forces 2 page layout in normal view and doesn 't match page width

2018-03-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116717

Bug ID: 116717
Summary: Writer 5.4.5.1 default page format forces 2 page
layout in normal view and doesn't match page width
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.4.5.1 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: jmason...@yahoo.com

Description:
Writer 5.4.5.1 default page format forces 2 page layout in normal view and
doesn't match page width

The page layout rules do not work on new or existing .docx documents. After
saving, the page layout portrait 8.5 wide, 11 high does not work on letter
size. Document is forced to a left-right 2 page layout. The default page size (
8.5 wide with margins ) does not work either.

I can't use the product. I can't wait for a fix.
I will attempt to delete the product and install an old working version.
If that doesn't work, I move to Microsoft Office permanently.
Very disappointed on the QA done Writer in this release.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.create new doc with default page layout ( portrait 8.5 x 11 ) - add 3 pages
of text - save as .docx format -- exit
2. reopen document - add more text - page down - format changes to 2 page side
by side layout
3. format back to normal view - 8.5 margin is lost permanently

Actual Results:
the document goes to 2 page side by side layout
8.5 wide document margin is lost when formatting to normal view .. document
margin is always 11" wide regardless of page formatting sizing and choosing
tools > update > page format

Expected Results:
document should always open in default portrait 8.5 wide by 11 tall regardless
of doc type when saved ( eg .docx ).

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Software should have been identical on formatting with older releases.
Big error here.
Not recoverable.
Product not usable.

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Not sure. The icons linked
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/desktop/WinResTarget_sofficebin.mk#25
from /sysui/desktop/icons are all 128x128, but the Quickstart UI menu and the
Windows taskbar in small icon mode uses 16x16 icons. Small icon can be toggled
off and taskbar uses 24x24, but the Quickstart continues with 16x16. So assume
there is more plumbing controlling the size in OS Taskbar and the Quickstart.

Also, depending on feedback we may not be able to just replace these Tango
styled OASIS mime type icons--precious to someone? To keep some folks
happy--but be able to use the Colibre icons--the index of icons might have to
expand. See Andras's commit for bug 37740 [1]

I wonder if perhaps using the OpenPGP encryption available from 6.0 on is an
option then - it's still experimental, but uses a fixed public/private key

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 116715] New: The visibility of inserted index entries is poor and editing is difficult

2018-03-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116715

Bug ID: 116715
Summary: The visibility of inserted index entries is poor and
editing is difficult
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: heinrich.ha...@email.de

Created attachment 140990
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=140990=edit
Sample text referenced in bugdescription demonstarting poor visibility og index
entries in the document

Working with index can be frustrating because of poor visibility.
In attached document three index entries are defined however there is no
visible hint to locate them.
The behaviour documented here is observed in Writer 6.0.2.1 and earlier
versions.

Turning on field shading helps a little bit. Very small shaded areas give a
hint. But try to find all three... There are only two shaded fields, the third
one has disappeared. I give you a hint: look before the bold words. If no
success delete the tab in front of Excepteur...
Trying to edit such index entries is another nightmare. The navigator is
useless to locate inserted entries. The navigation buttons in the edit index
entries window navigates through the list of entries but there is no way to
navigate to the context where the entry is inserted...
It is not a good idea to blame me for not highlighting a character range before
I inserted the index entry. I did so. However as soon as I change the text in
the entry field this effort is obsoleted. There is no such thing like a short
name used for biblio entries or a marker like the ones used for foot notes. If
I had inserted such a marker myself in the text it would loose its significance
as a marker as soon as I replace the entry text by some meaningful text.
Trying to edit the index entry just before Michelbach I have another problem.
Hoovering over the shaded tiny area I get a tooltip of the index entry. That is
nice and shows me I found the right place. However the context menue does not
include the line to open the index entry for editing. I try to navigate to the
shaded area using the cursor control keys. No success. Only occasionally I get
the context menue with index entry... I couldn't find a reliable procedure for
editing.

Looking at bug 116694 to replace Quickstart notice its UI pulls from Tango
styled icon/oasis-* in creating the Quickstart menu UI. The same icons also
used on the Windows Start menu(s) and when pinned to taskbar. [1][2][3][4]

Am I wrong to believe that there really are no OASIS defined/provided
icons--and what we treat as OASIS icons for the document types were generic art
work brought over from StarOffice (w/Stars motif) and OOo (w/Seagulls motif)?

And, at least for the Windows builds, can we swap in Andreas' Colibre icons
that implement a Windows 10 color scheme?

--- Comment #6 from christopher.r...@gmail.com ---
This is reproducible on both my debian, win7 & win10 systems, and I fought with
this for the last 2 days. I discovered that if I allowed the windows 10
automagically installed Canon MFC driver to be in place, it does not have
envelope presets that correlate with a #10 envelope sized document.

When I attempt to print (either an envelope wizard output or static document on
a #10 (on my Windows 10, Canon MF634Cdw laser combo) here, the print dialog
apparently tries the next closest sized paper setup (which on the Canon XPS
default driver provided by Win 10 or canon's XPS subsystem) is C5 - which then
results in skewed formatting and out of bounds printing. The driver does not
present a #10 envelope preset to the LO print dialog. The default driver
provided me with 6 paper sizes, device specific presented 17 (with #10 as an
option)

If you install the recommended Canon MFC driver (from the manufacturer
website), and then override driver selection in the printer device manager page
(control panel - devices - printer properties - advanced - driver), and then
try to print the document, I get a correctly formatted and laid out envelope.

this does not appear to be an LO bug, more like a shortfall at the device
driver level. I reproduced the "#10 to C5" issue on Debian Linux (using
generic & then a more device specific PPD), Windows 7, and Windows 10 using
generic, catchall, and device specific drivers.

strange index value error

I'm having trouble to make the returned arrays intersect with the current row.
It works for non-empty cells, but fails on empty cells (red in the given
document).

I thought it is due to the strange behavior of the function wizard sometimes
giving the result as a preview or failing with a value error. So clicking
different locations inside the function wizard it will suck up parameters or
add spaces.

But trying to replicate this manually, I could not make it work. Only
explicitly giving row and column solved it.

Could you please have a look at my instructions in the given document, if you
can reproduce the strange screenshots also embedded in the document?

Thanx

This behavior did not repeat when I installed a master build from
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/.

I attached screenshots to show which options I selected at the link you
provided. There were many options, and I wasn't really sure which to select.
Each link I clicked led to yet more options. For end-users, these things are
pretty confusing.

I left the status as NEEDINFO.

Reproduced. Sheet - Named ranges and expressions - Manage.

The dialog used to be non-resizable. The change must have brought this
behaviour with it. This is already seen in 5.0.2. In 4.4.7, the dialog can be
resized, but the field with the names does not get bigger at all.

Weird that the "Range and formula expression" really is blank even when you
select it.

In my opinion, everything is obvious. If a person wants to save some kind of
functional, they must quit all their businesses and start writing code. For
example, I'm writing a guide on LibreOffice, and a message comes that a
function is not supported now, because there is no one to write a code for it.
In fact, the developers tell me that I should not write documentation, but
should only care about my convenience working in app and write code.
In fact, the developers explicitly say: "If you are not a developer, you are
nobody, and your opinion does not count. We will not support this, but since it
is Open Source, you can finish to explain to users how to use app and will join
our caste. "

This bug also affects 2FA Google accounts that are using the App Password
feature (https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en) This is a
feature that allows you to use a 16 character password that is unique to the
app and it usually bypasses the need for any other 2FA method. Whether you use
the standard Google password or the App password, LibreOffice is still
prompting for a G-Pin to complete the sign in.

(In reply to tagezi from comment #4)

This is a wrong point of view.

I think not about developers now, but abut users. Let's call us a super-duper
HTML editor. Will this do any good to anyone? No unless somebody writes the
code. Currently the code is not suited for being an HTML editor, and (what's
important) no incentive to change this coming from any developer. In this state
current UI is misleading. You can leave it as it is, and let users believe in
wrong things. You may take over this area of code, and implement missing bits.
But unless there's someone writing the code, no matter how much voting you do,
the program won't become any different by some magic.

The "Caste" is open, and we welcome anyone to come. So please don't put it like
there's some confrontation that there isn't.

This sounds kind of weird. There is a caste of developers. And there are all
the rest. Anyone who is not a developer (documentation team, localization,
support, marketers) can shut up and continue to be a slave servant to they
master (developer). Because they not write the code.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 116664] installing 5.4.5.1 completely messed up typeface and lines in a document just created

Oh, sorry - I already installed 5.2.7.2, which indeed solved the scrolling
problem.

But I will have some old reports of this type, and presumably if I don't open
them they will not be transformed in any way and give you the information you
need.

I'll try to send what you ask for. (I am busy working on other matters right
now, so it may be a few hours before I can get round to it; I hope that's OK.
If I need to temporarily update to the latest version again for any reason,
I'll do that too of course.)

You must save a document with svg pictures and re-open it to see only png

Actually, before you do that, we really do need to understand the cause of the
formatting changes. It probably is a font replacement issue gone awry (either a
PS Type 1 or a bitmap font), but that has already happened in the two example
files you'd posted.

We won't be able to do much for dropping those fonts--but there may be a chance
to manage the filter import font assignment to the resulting styles for the
documents.

To do that we need a couple of your older documents, hence the NEEDINFO. If you
have some reports from several years ago. You can open a document archive, it
is just a zip file, in a Zip utility and look at the the "meta.xml" file to
identify what version of LibreOffice or OpenOffice had created the ODF
document.

p.s. in a bit of irony, the scrolling issues in Calc were also a DirectWrite
font handling issue that has been fixed in more recent releases (5.3.7 or 5.4.3
w/default GDI rendering bug 112486, or 5.4.4 for OpenGL rendering bug 113347).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 116703] Make clear distinction on differences between "Export" and " Save As", and move items in those filters accordingly

2018-03-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon

(In reply to Regina Henschel from comment #2)

No it is not. It is a text document editor, and can generate HTML from text
document, but it doesn't qualify as HTML editor
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML_editor).

> Up to now "save as" has those formats for which import and export filter
> exists; "export" has those for which only export exists. Therefore HTML is
> correctly under "save as", and "XHTML" under "export".

First, it is not like this: e.g., we (correctly) have PDF in Export.

Second, the said criteria is of no use from user's PoV. Anything in Save As is
a first-class citizen for any user, and users expect a program that "saves as"
HTML to be the HTML editor, in the sense that they expect features added and
compliance level kept high. As far as there is developers' consensus, we don't
aim to support fully-featured HTML editor, so we should not make this
impression in users. This distinction is much more important, so *even* if it
wasn't like it before, it's not a reason to keep it further.

Numeric calculation using the result of AGGREGATE()

Look carefully at the differences between:
- C5 and E5
- C9 and E9
They should give the same result (this is the case under Excel) whatever the
2nd row is hidden thanks to the filter or not.

When you uncheck in the 1rst column the value "XXX", ie., you hide the 2nd
column, the results in B5 and B9 are wrong.

Please double check

LibreOffice is an HTML editor. The quality is poor, because no one has cared
for it for several years. But nevertheless it exists.

Up to now "save as" has those formats for which import and export filter
exists; "export" has those for which only export exists. Therefore HTML is
correctly under "save as", and "XHTML" under "export".

Hi Miguel-Angel,

You might have checked this too quickly, it's not just a "format matter".

To convince you, I slighly modified the file with a SUMPRODUCT computation that
uses the "Visible" column as weight (normally 1 for visible rows and 0 for
hidden rows).
The SUMPRODUCT computation should result in 3 when both rows are visible, and
result in 2 when 2nd row is hidden. But it returns 3 instead of 2.

When all rows are visible, yellow and green cells are the same.

And after I've hidden the 2nd row, the results are no more the same. The green
ones (with SUBTOTAL) are the wished good results :

Please doublecheck the herejoined file (V2)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 116709] New: Improve skipping through slides in presentation mode with PgUp/ PgDown quickly

2018-03-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116709

Bug ID: 116709
Summary: Improve skipping through slides in presentation mode
with PgUp/PgDown quickly
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.0.2 rc
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Impress
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: cp...@gmx.de

Request for enhancement:

Stop object animation immediately when PgUp/PgDown is pressed while animation
runs

Why?
When you want to go back to a certain slide in a presentation situation to
answer a question from the audience, you want to do this quickly.
When a slide has a couple of animation to incrementally show objects on the
slide, the animation starts and need to finish before the tool reacts on an
additional PgUp/PgDown press.

The easiest and way is to quickly skip through the presentation steps with
PgUp/PgDown. This also works with Presentation pointer devices, which emulate
PgUp/PgDown. Changing to edit mode or using other buttons on the keyboard is
not appropriate during presentation, or sometimes even not an option.

Priority:
This is one of the major disadvantages of LO compared to MS-PowerPoint in
presentation mode, which really makes LO significantly less user friendly to
use.

Thanks for considering this request to make this very nice tool even better!

In more detail:
When PgUp/PgDown is pressed while a animation runs,
stop animation and show the final rendered result of the current animation (as
if it ran to the end), instantly start showing the next object (potentially its
animation) in the presentation sequence
the next animation.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 116664] installing 5.4.5.1 completely messed up typeface and lines in a document just created

2018-03-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116664

--- Comment #12 from David Edwards <2davidedwa...@gmail.com> ---
I am not a technically competent person - what I was flagging up was that a
document using Times Roman which in previous iterations of LO opened in Times
Roman and had correct line lengths etc. in the latest version of LO opened in
Liberation Serif with altered spacing and a line which ran on. Lower down it
opened in something which looked more like typewriter script. As in the past
this document always displayed correctly I felt something was wrong. If for you
this behaviour of LO is correct/normal there's no bug. The fact is that it now
alters the document, requiring correction of the font and spacing whereas in
the past this was not necessary. As I probably originality imported the address
etc from a Word document, some compatibility appears to have been lost. But it
sounds as if this reflects a decision made as to how to deal with certain fonts
and for you it's normal.

My instinct as a user would be to go back to an earlier version of LO where
these problems don't occur, whilst not liking doing that. (Interestingly the
one I picked at random 5.3.3.2 causes big delays in scrolling in a large Calc
file (>20 000 lines) so I shall probably go back further, to 5.2.7.2 !)

But if you want to say it's not a bug and close it, that's OK by me. I'm not
competent to argue!!
