Hmm, my bad. I'd mistakenly made a target text selection and then applied the
autocorrect.

Seems when applying the autocorrect to existing text, a selection is not needed
nor helpful--as the autocorrect simply runs through the whole document.

So confirming that the Tools -> Autocorrect -> Apply autocorrect does render
the * Bold or _ Underline markup, but not the / Italic nor the - Strikethrough.

So there is an implementation error--something more needed to be connected to
get the same behavior.

No need, just do the * bold or _ underline Find & Replace with "Whole words
only" checked, apply the Autocorrect for those to have distinct formatting to
work against.

Then change the direct formatting with Find & Replace with Find using Other
Options -> Attributes--probably with the Including Styles checkbox.

Pick an Attribute and use the Format button's dialog to configure first the
Find field, and then the Replace field. It is a little bit fussy to get the
right mix for desired result, but seems to work.

It is a shame that doing it directly for / italic or - strike through with an
autocorrect is not 100% yet.

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from

WHAT!? Of course this is incorrect behavior!

Tools/AutoCorrect/Apply. Right there. Clicking that works with bold and
underline, but NOT italics. If it DIDN'T replace asterisks with bolding and
underscores with underlining, I would say that maybe it just couldn't do that
at all. But it is doing HALF ITS JOB. Why!?

And yes, I could go through the entire text and manually delete+replace every /
to trigger AutoCorrect normally. That would take an entire days' worth of
monotonous work. This is a NOVEL.

The autocorrect replacement of the single quote will block the capitalization
option.

You need to uncheck the Single quotes replacement in Tools -> Autocorrect ->
Autocorrect Options: Localized Options tab to enable the "Capitalize first
letter of every sentence" option to assert.

There is no support for mid-sentence "proper noun contractions".

Not sure this is incorrect behavior.

The two "modes" of autocorrect are while modifying [M] and while typing initial
text [T]

The correction for typing new text occurs when the closing *, _, -, or / is
entered. Likewise with existing text, modifying makes the autocorrection for
each enclosing *, _, -, or /

Performing a Find & Replace will make the substitution, but I don't believe it
is expected to pass the text back through the edit shell to then perform an
autocorrect. Should it? Not as implemented.

And, revisiting the strings just replaced, backspacing over the closing mark
and replacing it triggers the [M] autocorrect for each of the formats--Bold,
Underline, Strikethrough, and Italic.

Checked behavior in
Version: 5.3.7.2 (x64)
Build ID: 6b8ed514a9f8b44d37a1b96673cbbdd077e24059
CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Windows 6.19; UI Render: GL; Layout Engine: new;
Locale: en-US (en_US); Calc: group

prior to adding the / italic and - strikethrough--Find & Replace did not
trigger the * bold or _ underline autoreplace in that build.

Also with latest nightly.

Some sort of screen buffer issue though--I tried to use to cycle focus,
and the "Full screen" pop-up window appears while a Mouse-Right brings up the
context menu.

But, it seems to not be linked to the document canvas? Clicking into the
document text shifts the canvas to the front. Another brings the pop-up
and the context menu to the front.

Behaves as expected with Default rendering, but with OpenGL rendering there is
this weird graphics behavior...

I created a new writer document in 6.1.0.0.alpha1+, typed don't and it wasn't

I then entered Notepad, typed don't, copied and pasted into the document, and
it was found.

I'm keeping the replacement on, so I guess I'll just live with this.

Playing around with older versions [1] today, 6.0.0.0.alpha1 works without
crash.
6.0.0.0.beta1 doesn't work anymore and crash.

Interesting, if I install LibreOffice from Stretch Backports it works without
crashing!

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 117653] New: AutoCorrect does not work with contractions

2018-05-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117653

Bug ID: 117653
Summary: AutoCorrect does not work with contractions
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.4.0.3 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: ahutso...@hotmail.com

Description:
When I use a contraction as the first word of a sentence, it is not
automatically corrected.

For example: i'll do it tomorrow. [should correct to --->] I'll do it tomorrow.

Even in mid-sentence, proper noun contractions (like I'm, I'll, I'd, etc) do
not automatically capitalize.

When I noticed this for the first time, I added the words in the Replace list,
with no change. The box for "capitalize first word of sentence" is checked.

I have had this problem since downloading and using LibreOffice three years ago
and throughout all LO updates.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Begin a new sentence by typing a contraction (such as i'm or haven't)
2. Press space bar.
AND
1. In the middle of a sentence, type a proper-noun contraction, such as i'll or
i've.
2. Press spacebar.

Actual Results:
The word does not auto-capitalize as instructed in AutoCorrect.

Expected Results:
The first word of every sentence should auto-capitalize, since the box is
checked. Also, proper noun contractions should auto-capitalize.

Reproducible: Always

"I don't see a reason to enter a _precise_ value in percent."

whats the reason for giving this field then?

clearly one can change size using this percent field.
using your logic here this field would have not be changeable.

but it is. So why then not enable users to change it to a really useful value?

"You can do that with the exact units."

thats true. But normally I do not like using those value. The percent value I
like much more.

"But what reason do anyone have to think about 52.31 percent?"

I still think that 52.3% could be good enough.

"That's bug 44267, isn't it?"

Bug 44267 means:
"Two decimal digits are insufficient for specifying object position and size"

this is not what I think is so useful instead of percentage. It seems to be a
personal preference.

If we change the default setting, would users of existing/old profiles see the
new default or would they stick in their old setting? If it doesn't change,
your argument against it is obsolete in my POV.

Just for the record, regardless what the default will be: It should be possible
to move/extend any object outside of paper/slide size but no scrollbars bars
should be shown with this option enabled and page down/up keys should not
change the canvas view if the paper/slide size fits in the canvas completely.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 117651] New: AutoCorrect will not change preexisting text inside / slashes/ to italics.

2018-05-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 117651
Summary: AutoCorrect will not change preexisting text inside
/slashes/ to italics.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.4.2 release
  Hardware: PowerPC
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: alex_reyn...@hotmail.com

Description:
I am trying to convert an old story to HTML. I'd previously used asterisks to
indicate italics. In AutoCorrect options, it plainly says "Automatic *bold*,
/italic/, -strikeout- and _underline_". So I find+replaced all the asterisks
with slashes. I clicked apply, and none of the words became italicized. It
turned the remaining asterisks to bold, and the underscores to underlined text,
but it absolutely will not make italics.

When typing new text inside this document, it will AutoCorrect slashes to
italics. But it ignores all the old text. All it does is change the font.

I just upgraded from 5.4.1.2 to 6.0.4.2, and the problem still exists.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Put slashes around a word.
2. Check that / -> italics is checked in AutoCorrect options
3. Click Apply

Actual Results:
The text does not change. (However, the font changes from Times New Roman to
Alias)

Expected Results:
The text becomes italicized.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 116511] Calc crashes when opening Function Wizard through Cmd-F2 shortcut

2018-05-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116511

The problem is the lovely "optimisation" in FormulaDlg_Impl::CalcStruct(),
"Only calculate the value when there isn't any more keyboard input". For some
reason, on macOS, when being invoked through the shortcut, that
Application::AnyInput( VclInputFlags::KEYBOARD ) returns true, so the code
thinks that "there is more keyboard input" and won't call UpdateTokenArray(),
which sets m_pTokenArray.

I wonder if this means that one could possibly reproduce this on Linux, too, by
just having the Ctrl-F2 auto-repeat long enough, or something?

Anyway, I think that optmisation is questionable, especially as the exact
semantics of our horrible event loop API, like Application::AnyInput(), is
under-defined and probably can and will change in various minor ways when
people work on improving it on the Mac (and perhaps other platforms, too).

(The event loop etc certainly needs improvement on the Mac, the "WindowServer
grows to tens of gigabytes when running make check" issue is related.
Unfortunately nobody has come up with a simple fix for that yet, exactly
because we use our event loop related APIs in so imaginative ways all over the
code, and fixing one thing breaks another.)

Anyway, will submit a change that drops the "Only calculate the value when
there isn't any more keyboard input" optimisation.

If this bug will not be adjusted, I will re-open another new bug.
LIBRE must correct a very stupid error (it must decrease, after the setting,
the iterations number by 1).

The current collection is based on the set used in older Microsoft Office
versions. Of cause we can improve our collection. But the missing handles are
no bug, therefore I set this report to "enhancement".

LibreOffice has no UI to define or alter custom shapes, but you can define and
alter shapes outside of LibreOffice. There exists some tutorials in internet.

I except this as enhancement request, because it would be nice to have handles
for the corner arrow. In Microsoft Office you can alter the corresponding shape
via handles, so it would be good for interoperability to have such handles too
in LibreOffice.

Comparing the number of handles e.g. for the simple arrow, you have to consider
in addition, whether the handles can only be moved top-down and left-right
(Microsoft), or whether they are freely moveable (LibreOffice).

(In reply to Ahsan_F from comment #14)
> Dear LibreOffice community, I want to add more shapes to LibreOffice. Can

Some of the mentioned sets are very special, so in my opinion they should not
go into the general set shown in the toolbar. But such shapes can be provides
via Gallery, or added via an extension, or offered for copy via a
document.

For custom shapes in core read /core/oox/README. Rendering of arbitrary custom
shapes is already implemented. You "only" need to define them.

For other shapes you find a hierarchy in core/include/svx/svdobj.hxx#270. But
there is only the shape "regular-polygon" missing
{http://docs.oasis-open.org/office/v1.2/os/OpenDocument-v1.2-os-part1.html#element-draw_regular-polygon].

So working directly in core is likely not what you are looking for.

Hi, Thanks Milos for reporting, and thanks Julien for adding me in CC. I
already pinged Olivier about inconsistencies in these strings in the sources.
I'm adding him to the issue to let him decide what is best here. Sophie

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 117231] There is no way to suppress Writer inserting blank pages to make page No. 1 a right-hand page (Formatting)

2018-05-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117231

Thank you for this informative post.
I will give it a try later today, but it sounds like it might work.

HOWEVER, it will probably not work well in my very specific case.
I ported the whole document from Word to Writer due to the complex page
numbering scheme I needed to use.
-I have page styles for chapter levels 1 to 3. This results in 3 page styles
-For each of these, I have page styles for whether this page contains
information that is authority approved or not, making it 6 styles.
-Then we had to change from national to European certification authority,
making it 12 styles.
-Finally, for each time the document is edited, there is a new date in the
footer (a part of the page change tracking), adding another set of 12 styles
each time. So far, we have managed to get away with 4 edits. This yields 48
page styles within the document. Now, If I must split each style into a
left-hand and a right-hand style, I will have to manage 96 page styles within
this single document. I fear that the cure will be worse than the disease.

Therefore: While I accept that the solution mentioned above may be a/the
correct solution to this issue, I fear that unless one of the two fixes I
mentioned above is implemented, I will be stuck with my current workaround.

PS: MS Word choked completely on this numbering scheme. Before porting I had to
open the Word document in Writer and re-save as .doc in order to maker Word
open the document without choking. It is definitely not a common type of
document.

1. I copied and pasted the text of the bug report
2. Strg + F
3. I typed don't => search term was found

But when I type "don't" in the document, the apostroph looks different and
isn't found.

Depends on language settings:
Tools => AutoCorrect => AutoCorrect Options: If I disable "replace" for single
quotes and type "don't", the search term is found.

Try launching your original instance in Safe mode to see, if it helps. It seems
you might have a problem in the user profile of the original instance.
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

How to preserve your modifications: you could copy a backup of your original
profile and then delete each sub-directory in your active profile one by one,
each time trying the PDF export. Hopefully the problematic sub-directory is
something that does not affect your modifications.

I don't see a reason to enter a _precise_ value in percent. You can do that
with the exact units and have the same value as for the page size. But what
reason do anyone have to think about 52.31 percent?

(In reply to Tomaz Vajngerl from comment #14)
> I would say that yes - images scale factor shouldn't be rounded to the
> percent but offer sub percent precision (2 decimal points).

That's bug 44267, isn't it?

Anyway, I will not close again as WFM but still think it would be the right
decision.

But not clear if it was intentional at that point. @Jay?

Believe it slipped in during work on bug 107658 to decouple Hidden Text &
Paragraph from showing with the Formatting marks--but present in a sub-menu on
the View menu. Required new UNO command for Hidden Text -- bug 107722

Should be simple to restore it somewhere about
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/sw/uiconfig/swriter/menubar/menubar.xml#203

Meanwhile, the display of hidden Text and Paragraphs is toggled by check box
from the Writer Formatting Aids (Toolls -> Options -> LO Writer -> Formatting
Aids: Display Of controls.

> Description:
> When working in "book mode" (edit>view>zoom>"zoom and view layout"), libre
> office writer will insert blank pages to make page No. 1 a right-hand page.
> Documentation like operational manuals often have complex page numbering
> like "CHAPTER.SUBCHAPTER-PAGENUMBER", where page number is reset to 1 with
> every new sub-chapter (This allows for easy insertion or removal of pages
> during the lifetime of the product without affecting the page numbering of

> pages every 4 or 5 pages overly inflates the document.

If you do not want the automatic "odd pages right", you have to use different
settings in the page styles. The settings "right and left" and "mirrored" have
the automatic "odd pages right". But you can set "only left" and "only right".
These put the content left and right respectively regardless of the page
number.
You will likely need a first page style (without footer), a left page style and
a right page style. To get an automatic change between right and left, you set
"Next style" reciprocally.

Shortcoming of such left-right-alternating is, that when inserting a page break
you need to know whether the new page will be a right or left one to choose the
correct style in the dialog. And you will have to change page breaks, if you
later on notice, that you have to add a further page in between.

For me this is a "works for me".

Description:
change names of some conditions for "Cell value is" in dialogue "Conditional
Formatting":

top 10 elements -> top N elements
bottom 10 elements -> bottom N elements
top 10 percent -> top elements in percents from all
bottom 10 percent -> bottom elements in percents from all

reasons:
1. For "10 elements" you should enter number of elements in right field and
conditional formatting will be apply not for top/bottom 10 elements and will
apply for entered custom numbers
2. For "10 percent" you should enter percent in to right field and conditional
formatting will be apply not for top 10 percent (percent from what??!) and will
apply with cells, that will be contain max/min value from range anr their
amount will equal (count of cell in range) * (entered custom percent)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open dialogue Conditional Formatting and try to use these four variants of
conditions

Actual Results:
we have four conditions with wrong names, that not understandable for users

Expected Results:
we must have names of conditions, that will be "to say" with users

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

I don’t currently have time to work on this, unfortunately.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 117646] New: Clone Formatting not working for connector lines

2018-05-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117646

Bug ID: 117646
Summary: Clone Formatting not working for connector lines
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Impress
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: tomas.chva...@gmail.com

Created attachment 142132
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=142132=edit
clone-formatting.mp4

issue: on an empty slide, create two shapes: 1) a line and 2) a connector line.
Try to apply the formatting from the connector line to the line. This does not
work, clone formatting is not available for the connector line

expected result: clone formatting is available for connector lines.

See attached video describing the behaviour.

Reproduced on 6.0.4.2 as latest.

I cannot reproduce your problem. I use Windows 10 and have tried it with
LibreOffice 6.0 and NVDA 2018.1.1. I get speech on all fields of the template
dialog and on all items.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 117645] Missing arrow tip modifiers for arrow shapes

Video showing the behaviour

As the bug mentioned above is not public attaching the video showing the issue
as you can see with some arrow shapes there are 2 modifiers, for some just 1...
probably they should all allow the same behaviour.
