[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101123] Writer Table Split Merged Cell - Enhancement request "Undo merge"

2019-01-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101123

Summarizing, the request is to split merged cells. It's not about undoing the
merge.

(In reply to Regina Henschel from comment #8)
> The merged cell contains the information, how many rows and columns it spans.
Could you please elaborate this? Let's say I start with a table with 6 columns
and merge a) 3 and 3 first and subsequently the 2 or b) all 6 at once. How is
the original table layout stored?

If there is no clear information about the previous table layout I would not
implement a single-click-split function. Not even talking about the previous
formatting/style.

Shortcuts are not defined or implemented in the ui file (wouldn't be a UX task
anyway). And actually the tabbed variant of the Notebookbar works as expected:
activate the toolbar/notebookbar with F6 and use the default key to toggle
through tabs, which is ctrl+tab.

Note: the keyword needsUXEval requires to add ux-advice@ to CC

I guess yes, it's kind of a significant change in behavior. Probably not small

I completely agree. It is not up to the end user to track down an issue and try
to circumvent it, hoping that no data is lost on the way. If an end user does
not feel they can trust the product, they will not use it--I am saying that
still being a great fan of LO. It is certainly causing pain to make LO fully
compatible, but I also think it is the only option, if you want users to trust
LO or this feature in particular.

This is twice the number of actions compared to just selecting cells, and
typing the text. Because you need to do the drag'n'drop for every cell where
you wanted the text.

@Xisco Faulí but wouldn't it be more rational if it did? Right now selecting
multiple cells and typing a text does same thing as selecting a single one,
which is a wasted opportunity to do something useful instead.

This is certainly a unresolved problem that should be resolved by making
Libreoffice calc fully compatible with MS office w.r.t. handling valid .xlsx
formats. I've experienced it with a wide set of files - and every time I have
to roll back to som back up - by no means a satisfactory resolution to a
libreoffice calc problem.

As this example reveals, I have a no of sheets and impossible to find where the
problem resides unless the product is able to the least tell the user where the
problem sheet resides and pinpoint e.g. too wide dimensions. This dimension
issue is something that seems to happen on the fly and is difficult to detect
and resolve. Is there a function to reduce the size - by removing all blank
cells. I am not able to find that in MS excel 2010 and when I get open file
warnings in libreoffice calc, I cannot trust that information is lost - no
matter what you say. It is a libreoffice problem - nothing else - and
troublesome. Hence a way to resolve it could be issue a warning like
Dimensions of
named sheet contains too many columns

Do you want to reduce the size by removing blank columns outside data area. But
I still think Libreioffice calc should have the same limits as the industry
standard, .xlsx

Thx again for pinpointing the problem sheet, Eike Rathke. You seem to be among
the ones who give helpful responses. Timurs comment is ridicoulus. What the
heck is the problem with using dropbox. Without dropbox, I would have lost a
lot of work due to this kind of libreoffice lack of compatibility issues with
MS office. A critical part of document sharing.

Cheers and pls find a solution - to resolve this. It has been known for a long
time and causes big strain for the user community.

I have found the reason for the reported behaviour: It was my fault. Dieter was
correct with his hint about selecting "Categories" on the "Type" tab in the
"Table of Contents, Index or Bibliography" window, but I forgot to select
"Category: Illustration" and "Display: References" below "Captions".

Now it works.

It works both in the version of LO writer which I reported here (6.1.3.2), and
also in the "fresh" version of LO writer (6.1.4.x)

I have to apologize at Dieter. Sorry, Dieter.

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

formating on save
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.1.1 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: tlkfine...@gmail.com

Description:
When I edit a doc in doc format,
1- "edit" style (ie. heading 3) font, size, color, format. edit from menu, edit
from drop-down at style listing or select "update to match"... apply seems to
hold, but if you then click "heading 3" from style list, all formatting and
style returns to some mystery default.
2- select number, access character formatting and select 'superscript' radio
button. Save doc and reopen, superscript is removed and number reverts to
'regular' format throughout entire document..

Steps to Reproduce:
1. select text
2.select heading 3 style
3.select modify style or edit style or edit manually and select "update to
match"
4.move cursor focus
5. reselect text and apply heading 3 style. all modifications lost.
second part
1. select number
2. select character>format
3. select superscript radio button.
4. save document (word)
5. re-open doc, formatting lost

Actual Results:
see above

Expected Results:
formatting modifications/edits/updates, all lost.

Reproducible: Always

Confirming this bug on Ubuntu 18.04, LO 6.2.1.0.0 or later.
Does not happen with LO 6.1.3.2

Also: SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk *does* make the bug go away.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Start Writer
2. Styles->Edit Style... (opens Paragraph Style: dialog)

I havent been able to run 6.2 with VCL=kde5, only kde=4. But Olivier could and

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 122862] Inserting an image into header causes pages to be added in an infinite loop

Given the second test case, where a much smaller image can trigger the same
behaviour, I think it will be difficult to determine whether an image is "badly
sized".

My hunch is that the bug lies in the fact that text reflowing is triggered at
all, perhaps... I guess I find it unexpected that a header image can sit
outside of the header area and cause text in the body to wrap around it.

UX-wise, I'd expect consistency between headers and footers, but I haven't
confirmed for myself how the footer behaviour differs.

This is not the way Calc is designed to work. If you input some content to a

you can drag the bottom right corner to replicate the content in the

Btw, when using the "qt5" VCL plugin (i.e. starting LibreOffice with the env

have no effect, the file extension is not added.

The behaviour is the same for the Database Wizard, by the way, i.e. when
staring LibreOffice with

  SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kde5 ./opt/libreofficedev6.3/program/soffice --base

as compared to

  SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3 ./opt/libreofficedev6.3/program/soffice --base

I'm not sure what the intended behaviour is.

This may be unrelated to LibreOffice itself, but related to KDE Plasma, which
often opens other windows in the background by default. You can possibly adapt
this in the System Settings (somewhere in "Window Management" -> "Window
Behaviour").
For me, it opened in the foreground (using KDE Plasma on Debian testing).

2)
> It is absent in the task bar (task manager in KDE).

Can you please paste the version information in "Help" -> "About LibreOffice"?

Whether the entry appears in the task manager seems to depend on the VCL plugin
being used. With the current development version of LibreOffice, the entry
appears for me with

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 88278] [META] SVG import image filter (all modules)

2019-01-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88278

Given the large number of outstanding issues on SVGs -- what is the chance that
SVGs will at some point be fully supported, and would it not be a better
solution to do as OpenOffice has done and treat SVGs as a (passive) blob like
other images, and use librsvg to render, print and convert them?

After all, code to do all these things already exists in other open source
applications, and at least to me, this looks as if a few people were making a
lot of work for themselves to replicate that functionality...

Barring that, I would request that until such time as this import filter works
100%, there be a way to use librsvg to embed them passively instead.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 122823] WRITER: Shows multiple footers and no page breaks for this file, unlike MS Word

2019-01-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=122823

Mike, I've changed our code so that it inserts the sectPr as a child of a pPr
element of the paragraph that contains the page break element. That seems to
work fine in our tests so far, both in Word and in LibreOffice 6.1. We will be
doing some more testing over the next week or two, and if anything else comes
up, I will let you know.

Thank you again for your help!
