Oh, I wrote that, and I still have questions. 1. Do you suppose that I meant something "funny" when wrote problem 4? It's unclear to me from your text. Do you suppose that what I wrote to have the largest impact to be dismissible? 2. I don't understand what is your *position* that you give a rationale below ("it does not look FUNNY" ... "I would NOT judge it to be "LOGICAL" confuses me). 3. And the last thing: the given rationale absolutizes the approach; while e.g. Word also may decrease page body if headers/footers grow; it's just the first moment of insertion that actually has the psychological expectation that isn't met in Writer. So we may actually do that without changing also the process of growth of headers. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=122943 --- Comment #4 from Jim Raykowski --- Hi Mike, Pulled and built the most recent master on a machine with GTK3 and a machine with GTK2. I get different results between GTK3 and GTK2 when doing the steps below: Open writer after --safe-mode and reset to factory settings Open Styles panel/deck in Sidebar Right click 'Frames Contents' and select Modify Paragraph Style:Frame Contents tab dialog appears with Organizer tab selected and 'Contains' area is blank Click on Highlighting tab Click back on Organizer tab GTK3 results 'Contains' is still blank GTK2 results 'Contains' shows Automatic,Transparent Click on Area tab Click back on Organizer tab GTK3 results 'Contains' is still blank GTK2 results 'Contains' show Automatic,Transparent+None I think the difference is explained by GTK3 tab dialog not selecting the Area/Background tab page None button when the tab is activated. GTK2 selects the None button when Area/Background tab page is activated. An uncheck and check of the value will expand the row wrapping the text. As will Clearing direct formatting, with an immediate undo. Applying a Format -> Row -> Optimal height or 0.0 will also expand. So unclear what is preventing the cell height from expanding to hold the wrap upon import, but the wrap attribute is being set. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 123022] AutoCorrect: Improve existing (German) abbreviations in AutoCorrect options (see comment 5)

This is only a workaround. I am a friend of usability. You cannot expect average user's to find out this workaround themselves (maybe they will find this bug issue here having searched the Internet for a longer time; if they do an Internet search at all). For average users, this behaviour is a bug. > So my proposal is to delete "z.B." from the list of exceptions and add "B." > to that list. For reasoning see links in comment 0. My proposal to resolve this issue is to add all German abbreviations which contain a space character between their letters (like "z. B.", "d. h.", "i. A." and so on) to the internal German word list of LO. So that this list contains both versions of each of these abbreviations, one with a space character, one without the space character. Because there are still a lot of people writing German abbrevations without that space character. Because they are not yet familiar with the respective German grammar rule, or they do not want to respect this rule. > Jens, if you agree, please confirm it and change status to NEW I would change this issue to NEW to get this issue hopefully resolved in a way which I described above, but I don't dare. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 33304] Header / Footer should be inserted into margin, not into text body
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33304 --- Comment #55 from Wolfgang Jäger --- >From Comment #54: "4. Habit/least surprise principle problem: when users decide to add a header/footer to a document with content, users expect (out of habit, or because it just seems logical) that the pages will keep their current content, and the added headers/footers would not reduce the page body area." I am NOT coming from MS Word. Nonetheless the mentioned expectation doesn't look "just funny" to me. However, I would NOT judge it to be "LOGICAL". Reasons: To get it consistent under the given rationale (unchanged content of the page's textbody area) the changed behaviour to insert a newly enabled header and additionally the height of space (distance from text body) into the area previously forming the visible margin WOULD REQUIRE to also shift the top of the header's area uppwards if an additional line or paragraph was inserted or the fontsize of the header was increased and 'AutoFit height' was enabled. The change would also require to specify the substituting behaviour in a way "expected out of habit or {seeming} logical" for the case that the margin not is high enough to take the insertion. (Of course, we need at the same time to regard thze footers.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 123027] New: Footnote Anchor
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123027 Bug ID: 123027 Summary: Footnote Anchor Product: LibreOffice Version: 6.1.4.2 release Hardware: x86 (IA32) OS: Mac OS X (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Writer Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: danielsan8...@gmail.com Description: I have found that now Writer does not let me change the footnote style in the footer from character to anchor. When I select that (unfortunately at my University, the footnote numbers must be in superscript) and I press OK, nothing happens and it stays the same. I have found a "temporary" workaround in setting for the footnote in the footer to set it as endnote anchor and boom the number is in superscript. However, when I do insert a new footnote, all the footnotes numbers goes back to "character" style. Therefore, the only way to make it work is to ignore it, finish the document, then use the workaround method and do not touch the document and just save it. Using LibreOffice 6.1.4.2 on Mac OSX High Sierra 10.14.3 Steps to Reproduce: 1.Insert footnote 2. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94682 kunzj...@yahoo.fr changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |FIXED Status|NEW |RESOLVED --- Comment #30 from kunzj...@yahoo.fr --- Tested once again with several versions of LO, on windows 10 x64 1809. Everything is the same as before on the test config except the graphics card (was NV GTX 970, is now NV GTX 1080 Ti). With 6.0.0.3, if I display 5 x 2 pages on screen with test file, and I scroll using the page down arrow, the screen refreshes about 2 times per second in openGL mode, vs. 4-5 times per second without openGL. With 6.0.7, in the same test, the speeds are the same. With 6.2.0.2, in the same test, the screen refreshes 10-15 time per second in openGL mode, vs. the unchanged figure of 4-5 times per second without openGL. It seems therefore that some openGL performance bug was fixed between 6.0.7 and 6.2.0.2, and the behavior now seems normal. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 33304] Header / Footer should be inserted into margin, not into text body
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33304 --- Comment #54 from Mike Kaganski --- The issues here: 1. Terminological (and coordinate system) problem: what Writer calls "margin" is not what Word calls "margin"; the latter uses that term for what is margins + headings (roughly) in Writer. this is also ... 2. Computational problem: when I mentioned "roughly", I e.g. didn't consider borders width; and the latter is usually expressed in different units compared to the rest; so it's not easy to calculate the correct elements sizes to get exactly what is expressed in the other coordinate system, even when one understands the idea. 3. Missing functionality problem: although it's true that Writer system can do things Word can't (easily), the opposite is also true: e.g., in Writer, it's difficult to make headers to grow from page body upwards, i.e. when it's single-line, it starts just as close to page body as when it's 3 lines high. 4. Habit/least surprise principle problem: when users decide to add a header/footer to a document with content, users expect (out of habit, or because it just seems logical) that the pages will keep their current content, and the added headers/footers would not reduce the page body area. 5. Formatting problem: see comment 46. Those are actually mostly *different* problems; and the problem 4, which has possibly the largest impact, is likely the easiest to fix just by making the algorithm adding header/footer to recalculate margins (as final part of comment 45 suggests). That would partly address also problem 2, which might be further addressed e.g. by the complex "page layout" dialog, which would allow the two coordinates variants simultaneously, and do all the recalculations itself. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 123006] Incorrect render: no border around image
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123006 --- Comment #11 from Regina Henschel --- The original border is not a single stroke as rendered by Google, but has a thick and a thin line. Such kind is not available as line style but only as border style. And border styles do not exists for shapes but only for frames. With the current abilities of LibreOffice the same design as in the original doc is not possible. You can get a frame with border and picture in it as in the original text field, but then you have no grouping. Or you use graphic objects with grouping, but have a 'wrong' border style. But using no border at all, is surely a bug. With the new feature "text box in shape" it would even be possible to get a distance between border and image as in original doc and so keep ratio and size at the same time. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 75817] Automatic styles are too persistent
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75817 --- Comment #12 from Regina Henschel --- The "automatic" styles belong to direct formatting. It is not a file format error to keep them, it is allowed. But I dislike it too. Such styles should only be there, if there are objects which use them. If you save the example file in odt-format and then open and re-save it with Word 365, it shrinks from 13KB to 7KB, because Word does not save these useless styles.
