The "User" expects it to be Landscape because that is what is says it is. (I currently have a test doc in Portrait that uses a style called Landscape.) He does not realize that it is an arbitrary comment and that the page orientation is buried in the XML tags. I surely did not. The new style could as well be called the Flaming Zucchini style. At least if the style was called the Flaming Zucchini, he know to look inside to see what it does. When you tell the user that Landscape is not Landscape Orientation but jsut teh name of the style, he is going to think you are an idiot and go buy M$ Office. I have had is happen too many times. At least the usually buy M$ Office from me. And I am a YUGE fan of LO and a BS in comptuer engineering and an I.T. professional to boot AND even I could not figure it out. And googeling it was no use either. (I have since wrote up how to do it from myself.) How in the world would you expect a standard user to figure it out? I presume you what changes and you create a new style: tm1, pm2, pm3, etc.. And all over the palce in the spec, it states "...If there is no specified style available, the default style is applied", so I really do not think you are allows to change the defautls, but are allowed to create a new customer style. I could be wrong. So I actually do understand what "a" style is. What I am having an issue with is the flow control of where and how styles are applied. I seriously think Regina's idea will put an end to all this. I think the issue here is that you do not get a good hearing when you report a bug, so you either give up or start these YUGE long dissertations. It seem that you get a knee jerk "NOTABUG" response and that is the end of it. In this bug report, I pointed out several bugs and got back use a different tool or use the tools provided, but not "that" tool. Since one tool worked, but another did not, it was not a bug and I just did not understand. RTFM. For instance, the style pop up at the bottom of the page where Landscape is actually Portrait. Format->Page->page is different that the side bar tool when selecting Landscape. (I can show you XML code as to what is different if you wish.) And my constant complaining about no Portrait in the styles selection. And Page styles are one of the styles that will *always* AutoUpdate (i.e. there is no "Auto Update" checkbox selection on the Style editor's Organizer tab). You change it anywhere, and it will auto update (perhaps "autocorrupt") its use anywhere else in the document. I cannot comment about any improvements now made to its workflow. The bug mentions usability studies. With LibreOffice Writer, the three matters I raise are regressive features. I cannot believe that a usability study was carried out in Writer after the paragraph right-context menus were redesigned and that the usability study showed the new arrangement to be best. This is a tiny part of the overall Writer user interface. But I have to use it often. It's good to know that the developers faithfully implemented the design. For me, it's a regressive design. To be sure, LibreOffice provides a means of customising menus. The page displays correctly in print preview as well as the print dialog window, however the printed page looks like the font is bigger than the 12 pt that was requested, and the page Steps to Reproduce: 1.Set printer to print Statement sized page- User defined a 5.5x8.5 2.compose page to print- displays correctly in print preview and the printer properties dialog box. 3.Print page- and the result is that the content prints too low on the page, leaving most of it off the page. The vertical scrolling direction, when performing the up/down swipe, works as expected. All of the other applications which feature horizontal scrolling that I've tested so far (firefox, evince, gimp) exhibit the correct behavior, and I haven't managed to find a setting in Libreoffice which might be able to correct this. My system does not have any kind of "reverse scrolling direction" setting activated. I've also checked that activating this setting does not reverse the horizontal scrolling direction, but just the vertical one, in all applications (including Libreoffice). Note: I don't know if this is related to bug 76017, or if the bug is, as mentioned there, vendor-specific, but unfortunately I don't have another platform to test this on. I am not using Windows nor the Linux Synaptic driver, so I thought that a separate report could be useful. This is embarrassing: when I renamed the User folder and ran the program, it opened! I have a habit of creating a configure folder for each LO program I use (6.1, 6.2, 6.3). I am also lazy in that I copy the User folder from one of them to another. It has come back to haunt me. I have a spreadsheet in LO Calc, the interesting part of which looks like this: The relevant part of the LO Calc spreadsheet pasted into this LO Writer document (see attached LO Writer document with screenshots) The properties typeface, boldness, color, slant and background have been assigned to the whole rows by marking them by a click on the row number in LO Calc and then assigning the properties: e.g. the whole line 7 has got a yellow background. All this was done in LO Calc, the results were copied via clipboard to the attached file . Then I use Daten>Sortieren and sort the spreadsheet by column B. Because the second column was numbered downward and it is an even number of rows, every row changes its place: Picture: The relevant part of the LO Calc spreadsheet after sorting. By the way: After selecting Daten>Sortieren, estimated 5 seconds pass until I can select the sort criterium to be by column B. I think this delay should be sped up! Despite the fact that the whole spreadsheet was selected for sorting, only the first columns with entries were sorted, as can be seen by the highlight formerly belonging to row 7 which has now moved up, but only for the maximum used column extent (Column D in the example). I consider this to be an error, since the selection was on everything, not just the used part of the lines. The same bug also happens, if whole rows lines are selected. This spreadsheet was meant to be used for a similar one to collect data by pushing the old entries in a row to the right if a new measurement is done. Of course, more than one line was meant to be highlighted by a background color. Sorting the table will be a part of the use of it, but if that overthrows the colors and other character properties, that is not as it was expected. When I add new entries to the existing lines to the right, I expect them to inherit all character formatting properties (e.g. size, font, color, slant, underline and background color) from the respective line. But that’s not what happens: I enter some new text to the empty fields Conclusion: The inheritance of color, background, slant and other properties is messed up after sorting a LibreOffice spreadsheet. It looks like the properties are only properly assigned to the cells after the sorting procedure up to the rightmost used column of the spreadsheet. If the spreadsheet has a maximum size known ahead, this gives a hint how to circumvent the problem in many use cases: Just put an entry to a cell to the utmost right lower corner of the maximum size the spreadsheet will ever grow to. Then there can't be columns to the right of the spreadsheet. - But this circumvention is not a real remedy, it is a bug and it should be corrected: During sorting, all character display properties (e.g. font, slant, boldness, size, color, background, underlining and possibly all others which may be present) should be also transported to the “sorted positions” - regardless if there is an entry or not! If the internal program logic maintains a “lower right cell coordinate” and sorting only applies the display properties to the cells for the active cells as they were before, it should extend the display properties of the rightmost column actually treated during the sorting process and if there is a leftover, it should extend the display properties from the rightmost active cell of each row to its very end. This is analogous to what happens after “Insert Column to the right”. This is consistent with the general result of extending a spreadsheet: Display properties are always propagated from the left to the right and from top to bottom: Insert Column left inserts a new column with properties inherited from the old column left of the insertion column,

The line spacing is kept at (1) start of document (2) after a page break But collapsed (3) after a new page caused by a paragraph break IMHO in all the three cases the line spacing should handled the same way, so the headings get vertically aligned regardless you add a page break or not. (BTW, "fixing" this in naive ways breaks existng documents.
