[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 131614] New: Ellipsis inconsistencies
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=131614 Bug ID: 131614 Summary: Ellipsis inconsistencies Product: LibreOffice Version: 6.4.1.2 release Hardware: All OS: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Writer Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: li...@davidviner.com Created attachment 159056 --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=159056=edit Three image captures demonstrating the ellipsis "strangeness". Adding 3 stops (...) followed by a closing quote (single or double) doesn't convert the ... to an ellipsis character as it requires a subsequent space to be typed for the conversion to take place. This requires the user to go through the document manually in order to convert them by adding a space between the ... and quote and then deleting the space afterwards. Also, adding three dots into already existing text doesn't convert them either unless the space is entered. As, in prose, it is common to show a conversation trails off by using ellipsis before a closing quote, it would seem beneficial to me for the conversion to take place when the third . is entered and not wait for the space following, which wouldn't normally be entered in the example I give. Trying to do a search and replace brings up a real problem in that entering ... as the search term and … (the ellipsis) as the replacement results in ...… instead of just … - it adds instead of replacing! Another problem: a lot of the time, when entering the space, Writer will repeat the preceding word along with the ellipsis. Deleting the space removes the unwanted original word with the 3 dots, leaving the text as we want it, e.g. one copy of the word with the ellipsis following. But this extra stage where the preceding word is repeated probably needs investigating as it doesn't feel natural. I have attached an image showing three small screen captures demonstrating the three stages of this happening. The first image capture shows the original state of the text with the text: “Sorry... You The second image capture shows where the space as been entered after the three dots, which results in: “Sorry... “Sorry… You In the image the cursor can be seen after the space following the ellipsis. The third image shows the result of deleting the space, which is: “Sorry… You which is what we are after. However, the presence of the intermediate stage feels far from natural. Note that the "Ellipsis" setting on Tools >> Options >> Language Settings >> English Sentence Checking doesn't appear to affect the above. I hope that all makes sense. The button "Filter" should enable blur of the texture. If the button is pressed, the texture should be "softened". If the button is not pressed, the original texture should be used. "Blur" is a filter in image processing, often implemented as "Gaussian blur". I have used the word "effect" because pressing the button does not change the texture itself, but only the rendering. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35092 --- Comment #23 from Mark Lee --- Most of us at school use LibreOffice programs rather than Microsoft simply because they're free and Microsoft is not. So far, LibreOffice's bugs are still manageable and it's still better than nothing. I gave up on Microsoft a long time ago when the 10-page term paper I was writing went poof! because Word chose to hang and crash while I was finishing off the conclusion. I just hired a writer from https://www.customessaymeister.com to rewrite my paper completely, but Microsoft did me so bad that I refuse to use its programs every again. I've tried using WPS Office too and it works well. LibreOffice is the go-to and ultimate alternative, though. There's also Google Docs and stuff. I've tried turning previews off, and while that allows me to add all the transitions I want to a presentation, the same problem happens when running the actual fullscreen presentation: The first OpenGL transition runs just fine, the second one crashes LibreOffice. This has been the case for every version of LibreOffice on every Linux computer I've run it on going back for years. Still present in the most recent version. This makes OpenGL transistions useless. I've heard that using the Flatpak version helps, but for me the Flatpak version shows the exact same behavior. This is on Linux Mint 19.3 (going back for many versions - can't remember the first version I tried it on), currently on AMD A8 APU (also the same on various other AMD APU's, CPU's, and GPU's I've used). Running the open source graphics driver. OpenGL info: OpenGL version string: 4.5 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 19.2.8 (from glxinfo). I have tried resetting my user profile to make sure it wasn't a problem there. The same behavior occurs on a brand new user profile. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Impress and create a presentation. 2. Add a transistion. 3. Add a second transition. 4. (If previews turned off) Run presentation through to the second OpenGL transition. 5. Watch it crash. Actual Results: LibreOffice crashes completely. " mean point, as bugs and bugtracker are actually handeled they lead developers to the triage: 1. new bug? oh no, it's a duplicate, 2. care for the origin? oh no, too many comments, difficult stuff, 3. what do do? mark as dup and care for something else. and that buries 'old bugs'. you can verify this opinion on this bug - 6 years, no patch, no progress, on other fields like 'shared formulas', parallelizing, - there had been some progress - macro functionality, iterations, comment slowdowns, autocalc, #REF! errors and so on, or on #62196 mentioned by Mike - basic functionality, six years, 13 duplicates, no patch, no progress, it already has a sibling #65606 with some duplicates, and a grandfather #34599 ... you'll see that bug handling for old bugs in calc (and libreoffice?) is not the most effective point of the project. i wouldn't cry about that in 'bugs' - imho intended for work on the factual problems - if i'd know any better place, perhaps you can give me a hint. reg. b. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

If you edit a cell's formula by pressing F2, it allows editing the formula "in place" and, somehow, that in-situ formula editor _does_ have "matching parenthesis highlighting". So I would recommend two things for someone willing to tackle this problem: 1. Reuse/port that code from the F2 editor into the main formula bar widget. 2. For better visual clarity for users, make it do some real highlighting (i.e.: a colored yellow background behind the matching parentheses) instead of just making the characters bold (the bold type is really not visible enough for me) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 131604] New: 3D rotation object with end angle has curious fill for front polygon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=131604 Bug ID: 131604 Summary: 3D rotation object with end angle has curious fill for front polygon Product: LibreOffice Version: Inherited From OOo Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Windows (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Draw Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: rb.hensc...@t-online.de Created attachment 159051 --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=159051=edit Collection of 3D rotation shapes Open attached document. It has some 3D rotation objects. They all have the same gradient as area fill and the same texture projection setting "object specific". They differ in the end angle of the rotation. The "back"-polygon, that one at angle 0°, shows always the same fill as the generating shape. That is expected. But the "front"-polygon, that one at the end angle, show various fillings. There is no rule visible, why they look this way. I can image two kind of behaviors A) Always map the texture the same way to the "front"-polygon. That would be easy to understand. But if end angle comes near to 360°, the fill would look mirrored compared to polygon at 0°. B) Map the texture mirrored to the "front"-polygon and keep it that way for all angles. That would correspond to extrusion, where texture on front-face and back-face are mirrored too. So at any angle, the blue part would be top-left and the yellow part bottom-right in the example. Especially confusing are jumps in the texture mapping, e.g. from 225.0° to 225.1°. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

I can't delete it, either. A person named Michael wrote that it wasn't a bug but that my Track Changes feature was on. He wrote that I needed to disable it not just hide it. WHAT? I did actually go and turn the Track Changes off, but it keeps coming back on. I'm not pressing Ctrl-Shift-C either. What does "disable" Track Changes mean versus "hide" Track Changes. I see neither of those options in the menu. Why is this? Why does Track Changes keep turning itself back on? Also, another thing that happens that never happened to me when I used Microsoft Office is that I find all these errors, extra little words and typos in my text. I'm wondering if someone is hacking my software via Libreoffice program. Isn't this based in Germany? I lived in Germany for almost 5 years in the 1990s, so I hate to say this, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Germans were behind this. Or Microsoft people trying to dissuade others from using open source software.
