[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 131920] Full text highlight + shading support

2020-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=131920

I am one of those who was surprised that I had selected "Light Yellow 3" in a
document, saved it as .doc and to see that the color was changed to "Yellow"
after I had reopened it.

So I had a suggestion. Upon request I'm repeating it here. :)

I hope that this suggestion works well for:
- The Libre Office standard user
- The Libre Office advanced user
- The Microsoft Word user
- The Libre Office developers (last but not least!)

I'll start with the functional part (= what the user sees).

When clicking
   "Highlight Color",
in LibreOffice, the user first gets a 15-color palette.
   (This is "1-HighlightedOnly.png")
These Highlighted Colors are supported by other word processors, e.g. Microsoft
Word.

Because most users initially only see the Highlighted Colors, and because of
the sentence "Usually supported by other word processors", I hope to persuade
these standard users to choose a Highlighted Color. That improves compatibility
with Word documents and the user should have less surprises.

After clicking button
   "More Colors (= Shaded Colors)"
the dropdown expands and the user will also see a 120-color palette with
"Shaded Colors".
   (This is "2-HighlightedAndShaded.png")

The sentences
"Usually supported by other word processors"
and
"Other word processors may not support Shaded
Colors, OR they may support them differently.",
both have a nice undertone. To me they express that LibreOffice is of a higher
technical level, because LibreOffice takes into account that other word
processors may work differently. Very classy. ;)

Advanced users may choose a Shaded Color, but I also expect them to be more
aware of compatibility topics.

Even if Highlighted Colors and Shaded Colors are stored the same way in the
document itself, I hope that users are better aware of the difference between
the two, simply because of showing that difference.

If the user selects a piece of text that already had a "Highlighted Color" and
then clicks button "Highlight Color", it may be logical to show the dropdown
with only Highlighted Colors and pre-select that Highlighted Color in the
palette.
   (This is again "1-HighlightedOnly.png")

If the user selects a piece of text that already had a "Shaded Color" and then
clicks button "Highlight Color", it may be logical to show the dropdown with
both Highlighted and Shaded Colors and pre-select that Shaded Color in the
palette.
   (This is again "2-HighlightedAndShaded.png")

When clicking buttons "More Info" the user can get an explanation and warnings
about exporting and compatibility. The text might also explain how to remove
Shaded Colors in Word. I'm not sure if that's the responsibility of Libre
Office, but if this information is added, there may be less questions on
forums, and that may prevent that users move away from Libre Office. ;) The
text on the buttons could also be "? Help" instead of "More Info".

Then there's the technical part (= what developers see).

If the user selected a color from the "Highlighted Color" palette, then that
color is stored in the document as Highlighted (and supported by Word).

If the user selected a color from the "Shaded Color" palette, then that color
is stored as Shaded (also supported by Word, but less easy to change there).

I think that under:
   "Tools -> Options -> Load/Save -> Microsoft Office"
the option:
"Character Highlighting, Export As Highlighting / Shading"
is no longer needed.

As a user, I am even happier with less options under:
   "Tools -> Options -> etc.",
because I never know if an option is found there, and if it's there, I never
know where to find it or what the name is.

I suspect there's backward compatibility with LibreOffice version 6.4 and
earlier, but if I'm wrong, I'm happy to hear.

This suggestion is not "carved in stone". It's a suggestion, no more, no less.
I don't know how LibreOffice works internally, or how .doc and .docx documents
are organized internally, so maybe this solution still needs to be polished.

Thanks again to all the developers for all the time and effort they put into
developing LibreOffice.

PS:

I also hope that implementing this suggestion will lead to less confused users,
that less confused users will lead to less bug reports, and that less bug
reports will lead to less work for developers. :) :) :)

I wondered if it would be good to check the "Highlighted Colors" that Google
Docs and Apple Pages offer, besides to Microsoft Word. On second thought,
Google Docs and Apple Pages also have to figure out how to deal with
Highlighted versus Shaded when exporting to Word format, just like we have to
figure it out.

Nevertheless, and just to make sure that we don't have to go back to this topic
later, I would still appreciate to know what the options are that Google Docs,
Apple Pages, and maybe other word processors offer. Are there any users of
Google Docs or Apple Pages

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 132044] New: After converting .odt to .pdf, the .odt document is completely unformatted

2020-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132044

Bug ID: 132044
Summary: After converting .odt to .pdf, the .odt document is
completely unformatted
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.7.3 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: nec...@gmail.com

Description:
I layed out a novel in libreoffice, hours, and getting really desperate with
the footnotes and page numbers. But I made it, and it looked beautiful.
I save the .odt, and converted it to .pdf, the conversion was good.

When I opened the .odt again it was completely unformatted, text without
justification, other type of font, there aren't drops caps in the beginning of
every chapter, and of course the pages aren't numbered.

Hours of work gone...

If it helps reproducing it, I used the drop caps in 42 chapters, and I used the
Linux Biolinum Keyboard O font for the numbers of every chapter. Maybe this was
too much for the program and overloaded.

Sorry for my English, is not my mother tongue and it's my first time writing in
here.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Write 95.000 words in 42 chapters.
2. Put drop caps on every chapter at the beggining.
3. Put the numbers with the font: Linux Biolinum Keyboard O
4. Change styles in some pages, some would be default, some first page, and
some pages doesn't have number.

Actual Results:
Everything lost the format.

Expected Results:
Don't erase all the format

Reproducible: Didn't try

"So just dump the info to

I think we should say to bugreporters just to give us info from that file if

Summary: Feature request: PIVOTTABLE, add case sensitive
sorting
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.2.8.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: regeirs.fo...@gmail.com

In current version, if I have a coloumn that contains several ocurrence of "A"
and "a" - each with different meaning, Libre Office will threat those as equal
items.

It would greatly help if there was an option in the "data field" dialog box
that appears when double click on a row/coloumn/data field item - that let the
user choose if Calc should sort case sensitive or not.

Vulkan version numbers have only 3 fields, so that info doesn't include it.
Current master builds dump information to
[home]/AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\cache\skia.log , so you can paste that
here, or alternatively you can use
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/OpenGL#Windows , the current version of
that tool reportedly provides also Vulkan information.

But before blacklisting anything, there are 2 things:
- I said that the crash reports look a lot like this is just your local setup
broken. Have you checked that?
- The version you provided looks old. I'm not entirely sure what version number
that is, but it looks most likely to be the OpenGL driver version, and current
AMD drivers have that at 26.20.x.x . Does updating your drivers help (done
after getting the Vulkan version of the current ones, so that we can blacklist
the old ones if necessary)?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 131550] Notifications bloating the UI

2020-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=131550

I would limit the quantity of blue infobars to one and every infobar should
have an importance index. E.g.
1. Edit document note (most important, must be shown)
2. Release note (only visible when no other note above is shown)
3. Donate note (only visible when no other note above is shown)
4. Get involved note (only visible when no other note above is shown)

Is there somewhere a list of all possible infobars?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 132036] New: Example in help page of the Switch function (de:Schalter) does not work in German locale

2020-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132036

Bug ID: 132036
Summary: Example in help page of the Switch function
(de:Schalter) does not work in German locale
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.4.2.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Documentation
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: dschei...@gmail.com
CC: olivier.hal...@libreoffice.org

Description:
The example in the help page of the Switch function does not work in the German
environment.
The example is inserted incorrectly, because in German the comma is the decimal
separator and the semicolon is the separation in the function. Therefore ",1,"
is translated to 0,1.
Correctly the example must be called:
=Schalter(Monat(A3);1;"Januar";2;"Februar";3;"März";"nichts gefunden")

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 130583] switch() gives "wrong data type" error on reordering value-result pairs

2020-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130583

Hello community,

I had found the same error and also created a sample document.
In my example I always search for the number 1 in 3 value pairs.
No problem in the first example. The three numbers are found. No matter what
else I enter, the alternative value is displayed.
In the second example I have no number in Value. If I now search for a number,
an error is displayed instead of the alternative value.
In the third and fourth example I mixed numbers and texts. If my value pairs
start with a number, it will still be found. But once the pairs are interrupted
by a text, the number is no longer found.
All in all I suspect an error when searching for texts or numbers. If I search
for numbers, I should also only get numbers as hits. You can adjust to this.

Hi,

In the attached Libre Office bug. zip there are 2 files:

Libre office test final 3.xlsx (297kB)and
Libre office test final 4.xlsx (219kB)

I made this example by using my original data. The titles I have changed.
In the xlsx files there are 9 sheets. I first completed Sheets 1..6 and
saved the results now and then as Excel 2007-365 files - closed LibreOffice
 - started it again and checked whether everyting is still ok .
File 3 is the one until which everything was still ok. As you can see its
size is near 300kB. Then I completed Sheet 7 as you see from file 4.
After closing and reopening most of the charts on
sheets 1...5 was lost. My aim was to put similar charts to
Sheets 8 and 9 as in Sheet 7 and I really did it 2 times before I
was sure that there is something wrong
in LibreOffice.

Hopefully you can correct this error (asap).

I have 2 additional hopes for LibreOffice Calc:

- could it be possible that program remembers the chosen Font
instead that I always need to change
Liberation Sans to Arial and bold and size 12 for example?
If I select border to some main title could
the program give the same to other charts automatically?

- could you increase the sizes of rows and colums in Sheets so
that you can open bigger exel files

The documentation webpage from LibreOffice is a great place to show what the
LibreOffice community is working on.

I suggest to have there links (with an description, communication thread, ...)
to youtube channels, template pages (for LibreOffice), wiki stuff, ... from any
community member.

For example on https://planet.documentfoundation.org/ you have blog posts from
the community how is working on LibreOffice.

https://documentation.libreoffice.org could be the same for all kind of
documentation stuff. An community member only have to register the webpage
(togehter with description, images, ...) and all documentation staff will be
available on one page.

I'm not sure I understand your description of the bug. With my LO 6.3.5 on
Windows 10, English UI, I can press RMB on the redlined word I want to add,
then in the pop-up menu, there is "Add to Dictionary" item, moving mouse cursor
onto it will reveal more menu items of names of dictionaries that you can add
the word to.

Are you saying this is too complicated? Or you are not seeing these pop-up
menus that I am using?

+1, as agreed in bug 116695 Tango is a design dead end witout SVG source,
unsupportable.

But are we sure we've cleared all fall-back to Tango (as expanded from Galaxy)?
If so moving out of core, but available as extension, would make sense.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 132031] New: EDITING Enhancement Request: When using 'Current Selection Only' in F/R, keep the same selection after each replace operation

2020-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132031

Bug ID: 132031
Summary: EDITING Enhancement Request: When using 'Current
Selection Only' in F/R, keep the same selection after
each replace operation
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: painful...@gmail.com

I am doing a lot of questionnaire pre-processing in LibreOffice. Some of it
involves selecting some *specific* data columns and then doing successive find
and replace operations on the exact same select area (an example is at the end
of this enhancement request).

If one does a F/R operation on a selected area ('Current Selection Only'), the
selected area is subsequently changed to be only those cells that were affected
by the operation.

I'd be grateful if you would consider adding an option of some sort in the F/R
dialog that becomes active when "Current Selection Only" is selected, that
"locks" the selected area to be the same, even after the replace takes place
(don't have a good name for that).

===
AN EXAMPLE CASE: Some columns contain data like either 'a', or 'b' or 'c' and
one has to "rotate" these data in the cells. That is, 'b' cells in the
selection stay as they are, whereas 'a' become 'c' and 'c' become 'a'. To
accomplish that, I'd be doing a F/R on the selected columns of 'a' to 'x' (a
helper dummy), then 'c' to 'a' and finally 'x' to 'c'.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 132028] New: LO 6.3.x/6.4.x No Menu and Very Slow Keyboard with GTK3 VCL

2020-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 132028
Summary: LO 6.3.x/6.4.x No Menu and Very Slow Keyboard with
GTK3 VCL
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.3.5.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice

Created attachment 159470

LO with SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3

LO 6.3.x/6.4.x has become non-functional for me because the menu bar is no
longer visible and the keyboard input is extremely slow.

I have determined that this problem is duw to the GTK3 VCL.

If I set the variable SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3 the result is no menu bar and
extremely slow reponsiveness.

If I set the variable SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen, the generic X11 interface, the
result is a visible menu bar and normal behavior.

I can use LO with the generic X11 interface but the menu and dialog fonts are
very small with no way to increase the font size. I would rather use the GTK3
interface.

My system is Gentoo Linux. I have no desktop environment and use only the FVWM
window manager.

LO has always functioned well on this system until the use of the VCL with GTK3
starting in LO 6.2 or LO 6.3.

I have attached PNG images showing the absence of the menu bar
(SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3) and with the menu bar (SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen).

Is there any way that I can debug this further?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 132026] New: Entering "-" in a cell formatted as text puts Calc into formula-entering mode

2020-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132026

Bug ID: 132026
Summary: Entering "-" in a cell formatted as text puts Calc
into formula-entering mode
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.3.4.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: FreeBSD
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: li...@gjunka.com

Description:
There should be a way to disable auto-entering formulas in Calc, similar to
disabling auto correction. Currently entering dash "-" or plus "+" and trying
to move to the next cell triggers a formula-entering mode. This behavior
persists even for cell explicitly formatted as text.

Without such option it's impossible to enter dash in a few adjacent cells
without workarounds, i.e. after entering "-" to press Enter, which moves cursor
to the cell below, then cursor Up and Right (4 strokes instead of 2).

Raised originally here:
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/237810/how-to-disable-formulas/

When I enter "-" or "+" into a cell and press cursor right to move to the next
cell LibreOffice thinks that I am starting to write a formula and automatically
highlights the cell I moved into. I formatted all cells as text but it doesn't
change this behavior. Is there a toggle that prevents this, similar to Auto
correction?

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter "-"
2. Press cursor right

Actual Results:
Formula entering mode.

Expected Results:
Cursor moved to the next cell.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
The software should not enter into formula enter mode when the cell is
formatted as text (menu Format -> Cells...) or should provide an option to
disable this behavior, similar to disabling auto correction.

I'm sorry I reported the bug in the wrong place, I opend a bug report on

Before using the PPA ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-6-4 , I worked with the split
