Commited a patch to gerrit to prevent ignoring of button text label color when
no custom background is set:

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/103079

As I am only able to test on macOS currently, testing is required with QT, GTK
and on Windows.

BTW: Using a stock (non native) control when setting a custom background was
implemented prior to patch for tdf#125532. This is implemented in a way that
fallback to stock control is done independet of support of custom background by
native widget set. The patch committed does not change this behaviour.

Nick Levinson changed:

I opted for version 7.0.1 (Fresh), because it's the latest classified as
stable. I opted for Fresh Portable, specifically
LibreOffice-7.0.1.en-GB.help-x86_64.AppImage . Saving did not let me choose the
destination directory or to open it without saving. It was saved by default to
the Downloads directory but double-clicking it failed to identify an app that
would open it. I went to /usr but, acting as nonroot, couldn't create a new
directory (to prevent confusion with anything else that might get written into
/usr). Since I shouldn't need root access for the purpose and running as root
is a security risk, I chose to copy the file into /Home/Desktop (I guess that's
in my account directory). Using Properties, I set it to executable. I
double-clicked it and it opened, showing me the LO desktop, which had a new
design compared to the LO version I usually use. The new one is still called
soffice, which I guess dates from StarOffice days. So I went back, per your
instructions, to the CLI and ran SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen .

I've now run the new LO from the AppImage two ways:

Without SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen , the problem remains. I should emphasize a point
that may explain why people above could not reproduce the problem. With alt-f
or alt-o, even if you release the letter quickly, the menu behaves correctly
unless you also release alt quickly after the letter, and speed typists are
likely to release both quickly. Quick release of both (in the right order)
causes the menu to open and close too quickly for use. You can't select a
command.

(Quickly releasing in the wrong order is a trivial case. The menu might not
open at all, and that's as expected.)

But with SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen , the problem is absent. The menus look
different and they behave correctly even with quick release of both keys.

Conclusion so far: without the environment variable and value
(SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen), quickly releasing both keys causes the misbehavior.
With the variable and value, the behavior is right.

solved it by copying the text file into an ascii editor like Featherpad or
Notepad and printing from that software. I do not print much and thought if
Brother modified their software it would be solved if I reinstalled a newer
version, but I recently re-installed a newer version and it just prints
jibberish and there are only a few alpha numeric characters. It will print PDF
files also. It would be nice if I could print to a file, which used to exist.
After I re-installed Libreoffice that option does exist.

I re-installed the Libreoffice suite and the printing problem still exists.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 86700] Add more Number Formats

2020-09-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86700

OR... we can start from a number format we choose (how many decimals, and so
on) and after that expresion we could just add "Kilometres" in the Format code
field.

So easy to do, so I can have cats, dogs and so on... Whatever I want I can have
in my cell.

-

For example:
if I like the format
-1.234,57

in the Format code field I have this:
#.##0,00

It need just to add "cats", meaning to have this
#.##0,00 "cats"

So if I insert 3, I will have:
3,00 cats

The reply command is disabled for your own comments. The author of the comments
in the attached file is "Unknown Author", and it considered to be you likely
because you didn't set a different name under Tools > Options... > LibreOffice
> User Data.

It worked like that since forever (e.g. Edit > Comment > Reply Comment was
disabled, and the reply command wasn't available in the comment's right click
menu), but particularly for the comment drop down box it was accidentally
broken for a few releases, so in Bug 125146 I fixed the broken code, restoring
the original behavior.

I have no strong opinion on whether replying to your own comments should be
allowed, but: (a) the change should be a result of a proper ux discussion, (b)
it should be properly implemented, and not be an accidental result of a broken
code, and (c) it should be consistent between the commands of the drop down box
and the main menu.

V Stuart Foote: You write: “Currently only characters drawn from the Unicode

agree with you that this is the problem. The developers of LO-Writer would have
to allow the input of Unicode SMP in the Special Character dialog for selecting
font and picking a glyph.

Behavior attempting to use SMP character as a bullet is correct, if unexpected.
We don't seem to support non-BMP glyphs as bullets.

Working with a Flat ODF, edit and directly inserting SMP glyph into the
"text:bullet-char" value of the

On parsing the ODF, the SMP bullet is not rendered, and is removed when ODF is
saved--the font assigned to the bullet remains unchanged.

So, seems it is not an issue with the cuicharmap.cxx Special Character dialog
for selecting font and picking a glyph from SMP, rather something fundamental
in handling the glyphs assigned as bullets.

Currently only characters drawn from the Unicode BMP can be assigned,
enhancement needed to expand that into the SMP.

Reading ODF v1.3 [1] 19.765 or ODF v1.2 [2] 19.760 character can be any single
Unicode glyph--i.e. SMP is not excluded from use.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 135871] Highlighting no fill is not the same as no fill; there is still direct formatting present according to paragraph style

2020-09-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135871

Your idea "let's "B" behave conditionally depending on where it is used" will
make behaviour of the result very confusing for Benjamin.

He has some text, where some parts are bold - because of DF on char level; some
parts bold from DF on paragraph level, some parts bold from styles - both
character and paragraph.

He uses the same "B" tool to make it not bold. Currently, this applies "no
bold" explicit attribute in all these cases. You suggest to make the result
conditional, making those places that were bold because of character-level DF
to simply loose "bold" attribute; so your suggestion would make new non-bold
parts being different - some having explicit "non-bold" attribute (where that
is above e.g. paragraph-level formatting), some no bold attribute at all.

Then user copies and pastes the text to new places - say, where paragraph
defines bold attribute. The texts - that user formatted the same way,
unpressing "B" - start behaving differently. This is unexpected, and *breaks
workflow of Benjamin*, who is the intended audience of DF feature. No matter
how would it benefit users like you, who cares about document structure (yes, I
mean it in broad sense: styles are just the way to express the structure in
LibreOffice; users first start to realize that their documents have structure,
then learn that the structure can be defined using styles).

I am using Windows as my operating system.

I didn't have issues inserting equations before the most recent update.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 136434] FORMATTING: redundancy in content.xml

2020-09-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=136434

Disable creating of 'officeooo:rsid': Tools > Options > Writer > Comparison.
Clear the checkbox 'Store it when changing the document'. While
'officeooo:rsid' are written the styles are indeed different.

I support the idea of a "clean-up" tool, which removes all things from the
file, which are not actually used.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 86321] EDITING, FORMATTING: diagram didn't automatic update when change variable (recalculation not triggered)

2020-09-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86321

This Bug is still present in
LO Calc 6.3.4
LO Calc 6.3.5.2
(using OS Ubuntu 18.04 LTS)
LO Calc 7.0.1.2
(also on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS)
All safe modes tried. LO reinstalls also.

For Joel. This is proving very difficult to provide a "method" to create a
broken X,Y scatter diagram. In four years I've not yet been able to cause it
deliberately step by step. So I contribute a sample file with broken graphics
(an early learning file not intended for presentation).

General situation description. Inserting an X,Y scatter chart, the plotting
updates for a few days work and follows new results in it's Data Range cells,
then abruptly stops updating. Sometimes it's a graph done at the start,
sometimes it's only a copy, sometimes it's both, then half of all graphs stop
updating. Sometimes reopening the file gives the user one more operation, you
can watch the result of a number change on the plot, yet only once. The
workload to continue using the file is huge.

Here there are now three or four hundred files (Cancer data) based on about
five general structures and (as of January 2017 to September 2020),
regrettably, only one has all graphics following data input changes.

Calc 7.0.1.2. I was able to use a file more than twice. Testing Calc 7.0.1.2
with another near identical file (recently modified using 6.3.5.2) of the same
size too, that second file opens and none of the X,Y scatter plots update, none
at all. Never seen that before either (all plots broken after File>Open).
(Usually some plots keep updating occasionally then break and never repair.)

This is else than "minor"; the workload is crushing. Reason. Unfortunately a
bug report moderator considers that autoscale on the Y axis doesn't need to
function correctly for X,Y scatter (although users are desperate to have it
function the same as autoscale X axis and write macros to try to do what the
moderator refuses). When the data preparation for a graphic changes from y
values to LN(y) values (for example), you not only have half or more than half
the plots don't update at all - If you double click on any, the new
presentation will jump and show the Y values squashed at the top. If you go
back to click a cell on the sheet (for example to change a 1.0 to a 1.1) all
the plots go off again to the old values. Moving or rescaling all the plots to
cause one update to be shown once - well, I spent about two months of the
twelve in 2019 only doing that, sometimes collapsing with exhaustion.

Why is autoscaling for technical users important? The sample file has very
many plots. The actual Cancer data work chooses to make only a few plotters to
minimise the processing load. On it's sheet, that plotter fetches or reads the
data from columns. Those columns are indirect adressing so that the user
selects the data sheet name for X axis and another data sheet name for Y axis.
That way, there can be fourty simple sheets of numbers and only one X,Y plotter
is needed.

Note: One screenshot or copy of one plot for a slide presentation using
histogram style autoscaling or forcing a manual Y axis scale may be the
intention of some Calc users or administration staff. It's unusable for
investigation work.

For Xisco Pauli. Please assign this subject to someone "technical" rather than
"presentation". Personally I only ask Calc to use +, -, *, /, LN() and EXP()
then plot. I can exhaust myself yet feel unable to share any of the four years
work. I stay with LibreOffice with some sort of confidence that it will work
out. (As a Raytheon real-time software testing engineer you learn to share Bug
information without worry and never ever put down the user point of view as
trivial or minor. That attitude is absent, so, well, without effort to not do
it either) :).

Therefore I add a sample file. Although it were best to prepare a smaller
file, I've tried trimming and deleting sheets with new problems every occasion.

LO 7.0,1.2 purged, LO 6.3.5.2 default for Ubuntu 18.04 installed.
Opening sample "BMI BM BMH switch expt10.ods" displays sheet
"TheSWITCHexpanded".
X,Y scatter (reading columns P,M,D) is on the area C283 to P342.
Cell L259 multiplies x values for that scatter diagram (default value is 17).
Step one. Click on L259, enter 25.
Result. The graph below fails to update.
Expected result. The plot moves red and violet points to the new x positions.
Step two. Clickandhold on the frame of the graph, dragging it one or two
pixels. Release the mouse button.
Result. The graph updates to the new data.
Step three. Double click the plot itself and change Y axis scaling to
autoscale.
Result. The y axis scale changes to 0 <-> 45 with all data squashed in the top
third.
Expected result. y axis autoscale perform precisely the same as x. This is
very important for technical use of any data. x values same as y values should
always produce a linear trend
