https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138628 --- Comment #8 from Mike Kaganski --- (In reply to Sascha Z from comment #7) > (In reply to Mike Kaganski from comment #3) > That is more than just non-sense! LibreOffice is a stand alone office suite > ... There is no "non-sense" when you talk about user experience. You may think that something is (il)logical from some perspective, but please try to accept that there is more than one possible point of view, and there is more than one group of users of LibreOffice in the world. While I would *personally* like to have "Clear DF" to remove every bit of DF from selection, I know and accept that there are *sufficiently many* users who *want* something that I dislike, and that demand *often* warrants the presence of those things in the programs. E.g., I believe myself rather advanced user, and as such, I *possibly* could advocate changing LO to *remove* DF as a concept from LO (based on "I can live without it; it makes LO inconsistent, and its documents hard to maintain when exchanging with users who use DF, etc., etc..."). But instead I am blocking any attempt to make basic users' LO experience worse (which is suggested now and then by those ex-basic users, e.g. who believe that they know how to fuse DF and style together), because basic users are not second-class users. Similarly, users who migrate to LO are not second-class users. And until their expectations are not impossible in LibreOffice's paradigm, their wishes are just as important as anyone else's. It's just a matter of an option to be "strict". It would not hurt anyone. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 131309] Validity>Custom>Formula does not have the expected effect without additional measures - evaluation of entered formula only happens after additional trigger
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=131309 --- Comment #5 from Mike Kaganski --- So the problem here seems that the two formula areas ("Custom" and "Cell Range") are not separated and checked strictly. 1. The formulas in the two areas are expected to be different. The "Custom" formula should result in a scalar value that would be converted to boolean for the purpose of the check. The "Cell Range" expects to return a range which would be used as a source to find a match for the value in the cell in the validity check. But when you enter the formula, it's not checked that its result matches the area. 2. A formula entered in "Custom", which gives a range, will automatically end up in "Cell Range" (but the drop-down will not appear immediately). This automatic "migration" could be unexpected (?). IMO it's OK to have it migrated as it is now, but the check that it's in fact a range formula should be made at the stage of dialog closing, and the actions should be performed according to its final type (range result detected => Cell Range validity rule => create a list). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

When I've tried to create equations, I've found that there would be fine to have them coloured in different formats to highlight some relations between schematics and other objects in a document. Also there would be fine to add some spaces and editable tab to get more overviewed formating for the equations so all would be readable better way. So I've tried to find some text formating or tab adding for the equations formulas and I've found none. If I am correct, could you please consider to add for equations similar formating as is added for standard text and paragraphs? I believe that it could be very helpful to have the equations in better shape and there should be also possible to create eg. better education materials by the suite. Since comment 0 had mentioned tdf#130738, it's not quite clear to me why could you "judge it to be completely useless". tdf#130738 links to two Q with explanation what "Custom" is for; and it's sufficiently different from "Cell range". The latter is used to provide a *list of allowed values*. The "Custom" is for an arbitrary formula that returns TRUE or FALSE that is the result of validity check. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open LibreOffice Help (F1) for LO Writer (if you're already in Writer this will be the default in the menu). 2. Select the Index tab, if not preselected. 3. Go to default templates > defining/resetting (this gets the topic Changing the Default Template). 4. Execute the steps on that page. Actual Results: LO's step 4 says, "You will then be prompted for a name". You will not be prompted for a name at that point, given that you already entered a name at LO's step 3. LO's step 7 says, "Click on the template that you created, and click Set as Default." I did not see that option, nor an icon that represented it via a tooltip. Expected Results: Since I succeeded in creating a template with new defaults anyway, my expectation is for the Help to conform to how. Therefore, I'd delete the extraneous phrase from LO's step 4 and, for LO's step 7, I'd say "Context-click on the template that you created, and select Set as Default." Differences include that the click is for a context menu (usually the right-click menu) and clarity for the next action stated. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Reproducibility is likely always. I don't seem to have a User Profile reset or an OpenGL option. Version: 7.0.3.1 Build ID: 00(Build:1) CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 5.9; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

You need a kludge to see it. Most users won't think of that kludge. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Either press F1 or select Help menu > LibreOffice Help. 2. LibreOffice Writer > Contents > Common Help Topics > General Information > General Glossary. 3. Click in the right pane (the glossary). 4. Select All. 5. Open a blank document. 6. Paste. 7. Compare what you see from pasting to what you see in the Help pane. Actual Results: Long lines contain text that is visible only in the document, because the pane does not support horizontal scrolling. Long body length contains text that is visible only in the document, because the pane does not support vertical scrolling. Expected Results: Scroll support, both dimensions. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 138726] New: mixing paragraph styles gets weird format values
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138726 Bug ID: 138726 Summary: mixing paragraph styles gets weird format values Product: LibreOffice Version: 7.0.3.1 release Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Linux (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Writer Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: nick_levin...@yahoo.com Description: With mixed values, Format menu > Paragraph dialog sets paragraph margins to about 100 yards and First Line to about a yard on 8.5"x11" paper. Steps to Reproduce: 0. Either use the attachment with this topic and skip to step 5; or do the following. 1. Create or open a letter that uses letter-size paper, has all margins at 1", uses one font (I use DejaVu Serif) and one font size (I use 13 pt), and has Line Spacing at single. I don't name styles. 2. Set the body paragraph/s to have indents thus: Before Paragraph, 0" (zero); After Paragraph, 0"; First Line .75"; Above Paragraph, 0.08"; Below Paragraph, 0". 3. Just before the body, have one paragraph, like the line that says "Dear So-and-so", with First Line at 0", but with other settings like those for the body. 4. Just after the body, have one paragraph, like the line that says "Yours truly" or "Sincerely", with First Line at 4", but with other settings like those for the body. 5. Now decide on a new value for Above Paragraph for the whole letter, say, 0.04". Select All and expect to set the new value. (The same thing will happen if you select either the greeting paragraph and the first body paragraph or, on the other hand, the last body paragraph and the closing paragraph. It won't happen if you select only one paragraph or part of one or if you select only consecutive paragraphs that have the same style.) Actual Results: Indent before text is -3,936.61″, which is about 100 meters or yards. Indent after text is -3,936.61″, which is about 100 meters or yards. First Line is -39.37″, which is about a meter, or a little over a yard. If you click OK, it carries out what's in the dialog's fields. (If you don't like the result, you can undo.) Expected Results: Indent Before Text and First Line to be blank, since values are mixed and mixed values are not displayed. Indent After Text to be zero, since it's zero for all selected paragraphs. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Reproducibility is likely always. I don't seem to have a User Profile reset or an OpenGL option. With version 6.3, I had a similar experience (I didn't get around to submitting a bug report yet). However, with a document saved in LO 6.3 and opened in LO 7.0, the indent before or after text was -3,930.41', which is about 0.2% different from the actuality reported above. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 138628] ClearDirectFormatting does not remove page break
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138628 --- Comment #7 from Sascha Z --- (In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #1) > Clear _direct_ formatting does nothing but to remove formats like font > weight, size, and color. No, clear direct formatting not only remove character formatting but also paragraph formatting like text alignment > Why should one add a page break after/before text body? Because it's a good feature to have to separate long and outstanding paragraphs that spans almost over the entire page (In reply to Mike Kaganski from comment #3) >This obviously *is* direct formatting, and I bet there was some explicit >processing >for page breaks not removed when clearing the direct formatting >from >paragraphs. Of course we need to look into the code to be absolutely >sure, but it's >my gut feeling, that this is a "feature" targeted on >inexperienced users coming >from MS Office, and who are not used to the idea >that page break is a property of >paragraphs. That is more than just non-sense! LibreOffice is a stand alone office suite with it's own features, behaviour and even remarkable visual efforts of branding! And the users have to bare with this! No user would be helped by keeping a page-brake that is applied to a paragraph when he clears all formatting for this paragraph as no user is been helped when he wants to remove a page-break while he doesn't understand that it is a paragraph formatting. Learning the application is the key! (In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #4) >Something like Paste vs. Paste Special? >[ ] All Character Formats >[ ] Font >[ ] Font effects >[ ] Position >[ ] Highlighting This is even more non-sense! First the OpenDocument Format allows advanced formatting, than LibreOffice makes exceptions for users of other applications, than we scatter the UI and force the users to mark 10 checkboxes for using a function that is mean to be basic? CLEAR ALL FORMATTING should clear ALL formatting, simple as this! (In reply to TorrAB from comment #0) >Expected Results: >page break should go since it does not belong to the style. Maybe our watchdog is buggy? > Can you check the pid to verify, if it's really the old process or a new one > and it's actually a startup problem? > > Not that I yet tried to reproduce this. Just some curiosity. A) See screenshot What I mean with Document Recovery Windows with "graceful" crash. Instead of abruptly terminating.. Off-topic Note: Still not seeing the whole point of that dialog (but really of off topic) * it manages to crash again while saving the recovery info in number of cases.. mostly if the crash is caused by rendering/layout flaw. Kind of hard to keep showcases if this.. people tend to fix the layout flaws (so you never reach the crash of the recovery dialog; so kind of masked). Also speculating this causing lovely recovery issues... * it turns up in 40% of the cases or so (again depending on crasher). The other 60% it simply skips it: the lovely abrupt termination.. -- B) It's the old process not exiting.. (did check pid specifically, but I memory usage 600 mb to different from new started process.. C) The screenshot is based on bug 138718 (which also illustrated the 'deadlock' or whatever is happening). Or I'm I the only one encountering this on my Windows 8.1 system? FWIW: as said the first time crash working properly.. failure when doing same thing again (so only the second and following runs). After reboot everything is back to normal, until the second crash. It isn't my user profile.. nor limited to specific LibO version.. 7.0 branch and up, I think (but maybe even 6.4?) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
