I've used only Libre Office since it split from Open Office and I used OO for
several years before that. I've not used MS Word for over twenty years. For
over a decade I've been using Zorin Linux as my OS.

While I usually use a layout document I created 5 years ago and saved as .ODT,
I just created a new document by opening LO Writer, select new document, typed
some text. Checked the Libre Writer Compatibility setting mentioned, and saw it
was unchecked. I left it that way. Saved the new file, then opened it up again.
When I looked at the Libre Writer Compatibility the top option had a check mark
showing the software had set that itself. I unchecked the box, applied the
change, saved it, told the system to save the unchecked option as the Default,
closed the file, and reopened it to find the box checked again. thus the system
keeps resetting that check box.

This issue happens with EVERY .ODT file I have. I've not looked at any other
files as I don't use them enough to be worried if it's an issue there or not.
But I do use the finished .ODT files to create PDF copies for printing, E-pub
copies, and HTML copies for web pages.

Now, in general, I wouldn't mind what the settings are. However, that one check
box causes the whole document to repaginate in an odd way. The result is weird
widows and orphans. I uncheck the box and the pages go back to how they should
be and I can type away. But once saved and opened again I have to uncheck that
box before I can do anything with the file.

As a temporary work around to save doing that all of the time I've made changes
to the file page settings. To get the pages back looking like they should
without that setting I have to decrease the inside age margins by 0.25 cm,
reduce the top and bottom page margins by 0.25 cm, reduce the header area by
0.25 cm, and reduce the space above the H1 heading by 0.50 cm. That fixes about
95% of the issue and the page displays very close to what it did before, but
even then there are times I have to make a few changes to eliminate one or two
words that have been wrapped onto a new line by themselves.

BTW, 0.25 is about the height of a line of text in the 10 pt Palatino Linotype
I use. Thus this one compatibility setting is making a change to the available
text space on each page that's equivalent to over 4 lines of text per page with
my font - that a heck of a change to the page being displayed.

I wish I knew why it's not happening to you. I'll have to see if it's happening
in LO 7.1 when it gets to RC stage.

Users want to keep at least a minimum viable bibliography [1,2]. An advantage
over 3rd party tools would be indeed if the database is integrated into the
document. Wouldn't _duplicate_ however - or ask whether to move or copy the DB.

With the new list view mode, done by Vert, we can sort by all shown properties.
That means not by filename, which was omitted for saving space and to avoid
clutter.

Do we need sorting for the thumbnail view too? Would be a context menu but
rather not when an item is selected- so hard to find. Maybe with the settings
menu...

Although I like LO, I must admit that bibliography tool in LO is a mess and
there has been a (short) discussion to remove it completely and use an
extension by default, for example Zotero.

Not sure, if your enhancement request is something for design-team, I add them

2020-12-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=139011

"Footnote" paragraph style is just a paragraph style. It only has some name,
and is used in footnotes by default, but it has no special properties compared
to other styles. Introducing some special processing based on names is bad.
It's like having some non-standard hidden undocumented property in the style.
And in fact, it doesn't hurt anyone, and just a usual nitpicking - unless there
is an actual workflow that would benefit from the proposal. IMO WF.

These bug reports just need to be closed. Ultimately, the human needs to learn
the tool they are using.

The current behaviour is completely accurate. The only reason landscape layout
is on page 3 is because it is a "follow" from envelope (obviously a completely
made up example). When you change a page style, you obviously must change it
from the last "section-break" specifier - which is how page 2 started.

I disagree. The _first line_ of the selection is pretty clear, and if you
select more than one paragraph it applies to all. All paragraphs have only one
first line.

And I see also no benefit from "Before first line" since a) there is no such
things as indent from end of the paragraph, b) the preview shows clearly what
happens, and c) "Before text" would become less clear. In particular with the
options before/after text the term first line is clear. Less is more.

   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.2.0.0.alpha0+ Master

attachment #152829 saved with current master

This is a continuation of bug #122102
Now Calc can import conditions of “contains” or “does not contain” but we still
can not save them to XLSX format.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open attachment #152829
2. Notice the cells are colored in A2:C4
3. Save as XLSX, reload

Actual results:
Cells are only colored in C2:C4. Excel reports broken file when opened.

Expected results:
Conditions exported correctly.

What is the "Paragraph style deck"? Paragraph properties dialog - has no font
tab, Character properties - what dropdown, Styles & Formatting - no font.

Think I get it, you mean the Paragraph Style dialog (not direct formatting).
But the font tab has no dropdown except for the language. Font Effects has
many, however. And there are some tickets- more specifically discussing the
dropdowns. So again, what exactly is it about?

Ouch, not sure how I missed checking that but sure enough. The crash is only
when Skia (Vulkan or raster) rendering is enabled. Default GDI rendering (CPU
only or with Hardware Acceleration) does not crash.

So then how would you go about changing all of the pages to a different style
in a large document? No, the only logical way is to have the human insert page
breaks where they are desired.

The current implementation is not wrong, and it is logical. Any change to it
would be considered a bug. WONTFIX.

Akazu, thank you for the bug report and the steps to reproduce. Unfortunately
they are to clear to me. I can't find a paragraph style "Bulleted list" and
also not a style "Alignment right". I assume, both are parts of a certain
style.

So we need more specific steps like:
1. Open attached doc-file in LO and copy text
2. Open a new document and paste text. Paragraph style is ...
3. Create a new paragraph style inherited from paragraph style ... Tab "Outline
and Numbering": Add numbering style ...

2020-12-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=139020

Bug ID: 139020
Summary: Proposal to Revert All Blue-Violet Arrow Pair to One
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.2.0.0.alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: riz...@libreoffice.org

Created attachment 168275
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=168275=edit
Notice color inconsistency in 7.2 version

In 6.0 version, elementary use many orange elements in the icons. One of the
element is arrow. Fast forward to current latest master version (7.2.0 alpha
when this bug report is written), these elements change to some mixtures of
blue and violet. This decision lead to a chaotic visual in my eyes. How if we
would like to make a change?

Considering our commitment (or at least my commitment) to keep update with
elementary upstream, there's no clear guideline nor example icons which color
we should use for this element. At least we can choose between two:

a) either blue. We can see blue element in Increase Indent
(.uno:IncrementIndent) which follows
https://github.com/elementary/icons/blob/master/actions/24/format-indent-more.svg
and Decrease Indent (.uno:DecrementIndent) from
https://github.com/elementary/icons/blob/master/actions/24/format-indent-less.svg.

As a sidenote, we had already over using blue in some other icon themes like
Colibre and Sukapura

b) either orange. We can see original orange element in Bring to Front
(.uno:BringToFront) which was taken from
https://github.com/elementary/icons/blob/master/actions/24/selection-top.svg

Please share your thought, which color elements we should go: blue or orange?

Susanne, could you please add some generic notes here like standards, links

I'm afraid of QA disagreeing with the META ticket since it circumvents the

trackable that could be done in a tender.

IMO WONTFIX.

A contiguous cell range normally represents a set of data arranged into
columns/rows (a table). It's a common mistake that people don't realize that
sorting a single column in such a data set would ruin the relations between
data in records. The dialog is really needed to most of users, including both
basic users, and often even advanced users.

If one wants to work with independent sets of data on the same sheet, where
data in columns does not form records in rows, it's easy to arrange those sets
into separate "tables", e.g. by leaving an empty column between those.

Having a "do not ask" checkbox here seems really unnecessary, like "I insist in
doing things in a confusing way, creating contiguous ranges of unrelated data"
- which of course you are free to do as you please, but then it's unfair to
require to introduce UI just for that conceptually incorrect way of doing
things, so that everyone else is presented the introduced UI (and then someone
unexperienced, who might need the dialog, might unintentionally disable it, and
suffer).

Asking UX advise.

Dear Matt,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101673] FILESAVE to directory owned by root gives wrong error message

2020-12-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101673

Dear bugcatcher1,

4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 139006] Crash in: dp_gui::TheExtensionManager::ToTop()

2020-12-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=139006

Please close this bug out.

With 7.0.4, the problem didn't return, and can't be reproduced. The original
event, under 7.0.3, may or may not have been tied to removing the Language
Tools extension unsuccessfully.

The crash report was generated by Writer, and sent as per instructions included
in the crash report window.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 139019] New: Unnecessary dialog box when attempting to sort single-column (or row) data

2020-12-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=139019

Bug ID: 139019
Summary: Unnecessary dialog box when attempting to sort
single-column (or row) data
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.2.8.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: trivial
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: o...@kirvesaxe.sange.fi

Created attachment 168274
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=168274=edit
Sorting column B or row 10 triggers dialog, but column L or row 13 does not

Whenever attempting to sort a single-column or single-row group of cells when
the corresponding cells in the next and previous column/row are not empty
cells, an annoying dialog box appears telling "there seems to be data on the
other cells too, would you like to expand your selection?"

While it is merely an annoyance, passable by a single click on the proper
button, when one needs to do several "small sortings" on the same sheet and
have to tell the software everytime that "no, choosing just these particular
cells and nothing outside them was not an accident but an intentional decision,
thank you", it starts to feel a real nuisance. Kinda like the feeling when an
animated paperclip thinks it knows better than me what I am trying to do ;)

I have also seen this dialog box in a same situation in an age-old version of
openoffice.org calc so I assume it has been originally made intentionally, but
is there an actual need for this dialog box? If not, I assume removing it
wouldn't be too hard. And if there is, would it be too hard to include a "don't
show this again" checkbox etc so the ones who see it too often and don't feel
it serves any purpose, could just get rid of it?

A workaround is to first remove all borders, and then re-apply the desired

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 139017] New: "Create Style" dialog box should be labeled "New Style from Selection"

2020-12-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 139017
Summary: "Create Style" dialog box should be labeled "New Style

   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.2.0.0.alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: sdc.bla...@youmail.dk

Styles>New Style from Selection (or Styles Menu dropdown in Sidebar)

opens dialog box with title "Create Style".

Enhancement Proposal:

1. Change title of dialog box to "New Style from Selection" (to correspond to
command).

2. Change label "Style Name" to "Enter New Style Name:"

3. Add label "Custom Styles in Document" between entry box and display window.

Reasons:
(a) the list shown in that window is the same as shown for "Custom Styles" in
the Styles sidebar
(b) "in Document" communicates that the list is local to current document
(c) makes it possible to add this label as heading in help page

Also enables change to help page, linked to "Help" button in this dialog,
which is currently entitled "Create Style"
https://help.libreoffice.org/7.2/en-US/text/shared/01/05140100.html

4. No tooltips at present, but maybe these label changes would be sufficient?

> tdf#130170 - add related topic to Create Style
Not exactly a resolution. More like a "workaround" - so that users have a
better chance to find something useful.

Summary of what is needed:

1. Help button for "Styles>New Style from Selection" dialog box goes to:

https://help.libreoffice.org/7.2/en-US/text/shared/01/05140100.html

which does not give any real help -- but patch now adds a related topic section
with a link to:

https://help.libreoffice.org/7.2/en-US/text/swriter/guide/stylist_update.html

which gives an explanation.

2.
https://help.libreoffice.org/7.2/en-US/text/swriter/guide/stylist_update.html

overlaps somewhat with:

https://help.libreoffice.org/7.2/en-US/text/swriter/guide/stylist_fromselect.html

Maybe those pages should be combined and coordinated with
shared/01/05140100.xhp
