[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149600] New: Hue band in color picker dialog doesn't react to clicks before picking a color

2022-06-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149600

Bug ID: 149600
Summary: Hue band in color picker dialog doesn't react to
clicks before picking a color
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.4.3.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: bibisected, bisected, regression
  Severity: trivial
  Priority: low
 Component: framework
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: aron.bu...@gmail.com
CC: caol...@redhat.com
Blocks: 87064

- Open one of the apps, and open a Custom Color... color picker, eg. in Writer
for the text color.
- In the dialog, click inside the Hue band in various places.

=> The main color area isn't updated, and shows the default white/red/black
range of colors.

If you pick a color, the correct color will be chosen, as can be seen in the
color preview in the bottom left corner.
Also, from now, clicking inside the Hue band correctly updates the area. So
it's only a small inconvenience, but you have to pick a color once in the
dialog to have it behave properly.

Observed using LO Version: 7.4.0.0.beta1+
(fe3be12afd810e17427601178b5d186364bef8de) / Ubuntu.

This is a regression from the following commit in 6.0, bibisected to its 5.4
backport using repo bibisect-linux-64-5.4. Adding CC: to Caolán McNamara.

Description:
I'd like to have a possibility to switch off automatic formula recalculation in

recalculate automatically formulas in this file".

This is a very useful feature for big files with plenty of formulas, where I
don't need formulas recalculated after every cell change.

Actual Results:
For every cell I change all the formulas in file are recalculated.

Expected Results:
Possibility to mark a file for manual recalculation of formulas

Narrow number format column, cramped tabs

Every time I right click on a cell and choose Format Cells, I have to resize
that dialog in order to see the user-defined formats in their entirety.

Would it be possible to remember the size of this dialog?

Similar to bug 101285.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 139057] Image to character/paragraph at the end or beginning of a paragraph isn't included in a single line section

2022-06-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=139057

(In reply to Telesto from comment #11)

In short and in general: Problems in comment 11 seem to stem from difficulties
in knowing how to select an anchor (see bug 146445 for relevant explanations),
which is related to/interacts with difficulty in knowing how to interpret the
current anchor icon properly to determine the anchor location. Bug 138351
discusses the issue of improving the display of anchor location -- but even if
that is improved, it is necessary to know how to insure that the anchor is
included in the selection.

Possible "responses":
 - make it easier for a user to know when an anchor is included in a text
selection (but no proposals offered for design changes.)

 - give better documentation about how to insure selection of an anchor (but
less effective for those users who expect the interface to be "intuitive", and
therefore will not read documentation).

About selecting the anchor:

Here are three examples that will illustrate how to "succeed" in places where
you have "failed". Perhaps these positive examples (along with the explanations
in bug 146445) will help you to form an understanding of what is needed to
insure that an anchor is selected.

> 3. Move the text up. Yellow and orange shape not moving
Do NOT repro with cursor placed in paragraph and Ctrl+Alt+Up arrow. All shapes
move.
Do repro with Ctrl+X on selection and Ctrl+V.

> 8. Double click 'Blue'
> 9. Drag & drop below heading 1.. image not following
> 11. Place cursor after 'yellow' and select blue with the space before
> 12. Drag up below heading 1. -> Only "blue' text moves image stays
8 and 11 show examples where you have failed to select the anchor.

Additional tests to show how to drag blue shape up, by including the anchor in
the selection.

13. Open attachment 180813, place cursor before "b" in blue, then select two
characters to left (i.e., space and "w" at end of yellow). Drag selection to
Heading 1, see "blue" shape follow.

14. Open attachment 180813, select blue shape, move anchor to middle of word
"blue". Double-click "blue", drag to Heading 1, see "blue" shape follow.

Two notes:

1. To find the "accessibility" tab, one may have to scroll the top right side
tab bar of the Glade to find the  (man) icon. Then a click on  (pencil) icon
to see "Context for translation" and other options.

2. One may need a recent version of Glade to be able to do this task. Try
opening the sc/uiconfig/scalc/ui/xmlsourcedialog.ui file and finding
"mlsourcedialog|extended_tip|XMLSourceDialog" as an example. I was using Glade
3.22.2 in Ubuntu 20.04, and the "Context for translation" field was completely
empty. Using Glade 3.38.2 in Ubuntu 22.04,
"xmlsourcedialog|extended_tip|XMLSourceDialog" is visible in that place.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 139057] Image to character/paragraph at the end or beginning of a paragraph isn't included in a single line section

2022-06-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Created attachment 180813
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=180813=edit
Example file

Sorry that I keep going ..
1. Open the attached file
2. Select the highlighted text
3. Move the text up. Yellow and orange shape not moving (yes, I know: anchored
at beginning and end of a singe paragraph)
4. CTRL+Z
5. Place arrow before 'ghi'
6. Press Shift Arrow Down (2 paragraph selected). Drag and drop the text below
heading 1 -> all images follow
7. CTRL+Z
8. Double click 'Blue'
9. Drag & drop below heading 1.. image not following (image anchored 'before'
b)
10. CTRL+Z
11. Place cursor after 'yellow' and select blue with the space before
12. Drag up below heading 1. -> Only "blue' text moves image stays

I do not really understand why multi-line paragraph will include images.. but
single paragraph not..

And why an anchor at the left of word isn't included with the selection
(especially if the space is also included)

There is obviously the possibility that I'm mistaking about what to character
anchoring is and how it should be used. Aka I might have different expectations
compared to the design (how I think it should working < - > How it's actually
working). And there obviously also a difference between 'ideal situation' and
the part which is technically possible. And yes, sure, there likely always
which don't fit any model. (So being off)

I don't speak Hebrew at all so take it for what it's worth, but here are my two
cents regarding fonts in LibreOffice based on my experience with Chinese text:

David CLM is an open source font shipped with LibreOffice [1], so it's expected
to exist on every system with LibreOffice installed. On the other hand, Arial
(your preferred choice, judging from your screenshot) is usually only available
on Windows, and not on Linux or macOS unless the user explicitly installed it
for compatibility reasons.

My understanding is that the default font in LibreOffice out of box (without
changing any settings) depends on locale. Search for "CTL_TEXT" in expert
configurations (Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Advanced > Open Expert
Configuration). So you should also provide the detailed version information
about your LibreOffice (Help > About LibreOffice > Version Information).

(In reply to Shlomo belleli from comment #8)
> Created attachment 180809 [details]
> the stubborn font
This doesn't look like David CLM, at least not on my system, either in
LibreOffice or from the Windows font preview.

reflect the table's style, nor offer any functionality associated with the
style; it is a "direct formatting only" dialog. I'm not sure that's a good
thing.

2. RTL. At the moment, you can set "left" and "right" borders. If you then
switch the table directions, these are switched. Is it clear enough to the user
that this is what will happen? Also, noticed a bug when you switch the table
direction, then go back to the borders tab - the borders aren't switched. Will
file that separately.

Opinions regarding aspects of the current dialog & replies to other comments

3. Tri-state is good; we need it and we want it. If anything should be improved
about it, it's making its semantics clearer to the user. Seeing a thick gray
border is somewhat confusing. At the very least, a tooltip should indicate what
the "keep" state means; perhaps also some kind of textual indication involving
the line style controls.

4. It important that we be able to select an existing border and have its
features displayed in the various controls (width, color etc.) This is bug
143248 and Telesto pointed this out in comment #20.

5. Continuing (4.), it should be easy to select multiple border elements
without applying a new style to them (and without having to
click-click-clackety-clack a zillion times), as Telesto has indicated in
comment #25. But at the same time one should be able to do
"format-painter-style" copying of border segment style from one
segment/position to another. Telesto suggests (in comment #20) this be done
using drag-and-drop; I'm not sure I would like that.

6. We cannot currently change the style of a border segment without
simultaneously enabling it universally. That is, if I have internal horizontal
borders every two lines, I can't say "I want these border to be purple,
wherever they exist". I should be able to do that I think.

7. Continuing (5.) ans regarding Heiko's question in comment #24, I would not
accept losing the ability of setting the style of multiple border-positions in
the dialog at once. Regarding Heiko's comment #27: This is no more confusing
then how the preview needs to reflect multiple cells with conflicting-style
borders; or how the toolbar buttons need to reflect conflicting styles within a
selection of text, etc. Multi-selection is _not_ a rare case, it is a very
common case - just think of the presents.

Opinion regarding the latest mockup

8. I doubt that a full pane of presets is useful, but I don't have a strong
argument against it.

9. Will additional presets be part of the document? The document template? The
user configuration?

10. I'm not sure I like 10 small position buttons. The 4 side ones are obvious
enough, the other ones less obvious and more confusing, especially the use of
gray. I would like to be able to make the selection the way I make it now - but
just as a selection, without applying any style. Have you considered _two_
preview-like widgets? One being an actual preview with styled borders, and the
other being used for selecting positions only?

11. The second mockup alternative, in which one only works on a single position
at a time. Is unacceptable AFAIC. And it doesn't even have a
format-painter-like capabilty

12. Under the Presets pane, shouldn't the controls be "Apply" and "Add New"?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149547] Writer creates a new character style named "__XXX___invalid" on its own

2022-06-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon

(In reply to Timur from comment #3)
> Does this happen only with a specific file? Can you attach it, if not
> personal?

I looked a little bit more into the issue and I found that Writer creates the
character style named "Character_20_style" for the chapter numbering both in
LibreOffice 7.3 and 7.5.

But in LibreOffice 7.5, Writer also creates another new character style named
"__XXX___invalid" for the chapter numbering.

Both behavior are coming from the fact the initial character style for the
chapter numbering has been deleted, so Writer creates new ones instead of
assigning the style named "No Character Style" by default for the outline list.

So there is an initial bug (Writer doesn't reset properly the character style
associated to None [it should be "No Character Style"]) that has been around
for a while; coupled with a new bug (when None is assigned) that appeared in
version 7.5.

Writer should be able to reset a default style without having to recreate
another style. This behavior is not comprehensible from user's point of view.

(In reply to Hans-Werner from comment #36)
> But what's about the question [3] of "Comment 28" ?

Writer document is preferably style-oriented text. You would have to create for
each line a special paragraph style per code style (Basic, Python, Java...)
plus numerous character styles to make parts in bold, italic, colored etc.
Printing and exporting to PDF / bitmap formats is a more character-oriented
procedure since you never reuse the content anywhere else.
And as I commented before, the Basic colorization is likely not available at
different modules.
In other words, you don't write/modify code in Writer (nor you want to reuse
the formatting) but want to share a static result - a screenshot.
And again my disclaimer: the desire is clear and valuable from the UX POV (my
expertise here). Volunteers who want to do the effort are very welcome. But I
would not steer resources, if there was any, into it.

This is something I have noticed for awhile. It often manifests as extra spaces
at the end of a sentence. While not a deal breaker, it is a nuisance.

How to reproduce: easy, just try to type a few words (try 100) then highlight
the entire paragraph. Notice how extra space is highlighted at the end.

(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #34)

Many thanks for answering the questions [1],[2] and [4] of "Comment 28" :-))

But what's about the question [3] of "Comment 28" ?

Code colorizing is already part of the core, because the basic macro code
browsed by the "LO Basic IDE" (Integrated Development Environment) is colorized
(Attachment: LO 7.3.4.2 (x64) - Basic IDE - ScreenPrint.png).

Therefore ("Comment 28"):

"[...] [3] Why not to replace the printing feature by an export-to-writer
feature ? [...] What's about to use directly or indirectly the already existing
code colorizer of the Basic-IDE. For example, could it be possible to code some
software that exports the displayed basic macro code in a writer document and
replaces the SCREEN-color-tags by WRITER-color tags ? [...]"
