[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 150635] Numbers larger than 15 digits cannot be FORMATED as TEXT

2022-08-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=150635

CSVs typically contain data in columns - i.e., any given column contains a
single data type. A column named "password" is likely to contain passwords, and
a column named "sum" in likely to contain numbers.

In the CSV import dialog, right-clicking on any column header in the preview
area allows you to choose the data type there in the respective column. So
right-click on the "Password" column header, and select "Text" in import.

While searching for a similar problem over the web, I came across a post saying
that the yellow "Help Tip" does not also appear in autocomplete. The poster was
using Libre 7.3.4.2.

I tried it in my Libre 7.2.7.2 and the yellow "Help Tip" indeed does not also
appear in autocomplete.

I tried using Libre portable and found these about the yellow "Help Tip" in
AUTOCOMPLETE and AUTOTEXT:

6.4.7 working
7.0.6 working
7.1.8 working
7.2.7 not working (regular installation)
7.3.5 not working

This is a new install on a new Desktop. The yellow “Help Tip” when I enable the
“Display remainder of name as suggestion while typing” is not showing. I used
to just press “Ctrl+Tab” to advance through my many autotext entries in my
other installation. I cannot do this now.

I have reinstalled Libreoffice. I have reset my profile. Copied another profile
from another installation. I have checked the language and path settings.
Nothing worked.

I have used Libre portable and found this:

6.4.7 working
7.0.6 working

7.2.7 not working (my regular installation)
7.3.5 not working

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Tools>AutoText
2. Check Display remainder of name as suggestion while typing
3. Close

Actual Results:
Yellow "Help Tip" DOES NOT APPEAR when I enter the first three characters of
the autotext

Expected Results:

Screencast

I have a sheet with medical data spanning thousands of records (days). Each
column is a conditional formatting range (percentile color scale).

Say B3:B9 is a such a CF range. Cutting B8 and pasting it over B6 will break
the range into B3:B5, B6, B7, B9. Also, formatting will be lost on B6.

The narrated screencast illustrates this.

I understand this might have been WAI per #57486, in order to not risk losing
formatting, but,

* in practice formatting is actually lost

* undo is broken

* it would be a *really* useful and semantically correct to keep the original
range intact, as the user intention was. This would also nicely result in not
losing formatting.

In practice, with hundreds of rows and numerous edits, the CF ranges constantly
become a broken mess, and I have to fix them to the original START:END points
every other day.

Thanks for you answer but I am missing something. Are you suggesting that to
open a .csv file in Calc, I should first format numbers to TEXT for the entire
spreadsheet and then open the .csv file? Since I don't know ahead of time which
cells are going to contain larger than 15 digits, that's the only way I can
prevent large numbers turning into scientific notation. A .CSV file, however,
can contain numbers as well (e.g. population figures) which then would have to
be found and converted back to numbers?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 150636] New: LibreOffice Calc: spreadsheets only open minimized and setting can't be changed to open them maximized.

2022-08-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=150636

Bug ID: 150636
Summary: LibreOffice Calc: spreadsheets only open minimized and
setting can't be changed to open them maximized.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.4.0.3 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: si...@simonhnoble.plus.com

Description:
File Opening

A LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet only opens minimized and it can't be set to open
maximized by Right click Start > Properties > Shortcut > Run, Apply, OK.

The earlier version (LibreOffice 7.3.4.2) runs correctly but the recent updated
version (LibreOffice 7.4.0.3 will not open maximized. I have uninstalled the
updated LibreOffice 7.4.0.3

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a file in LibreOffice Calc
2. That's it!

Actual Results:
In version 7.4.0.3 the file only opens minimized.

Try to alter settings - right click desktop icon > click "Properties" > Click
to select "Shortcut" if tab isn't already selected, in the dialogue box change
the option displayed in "Run" then Apply and OK. This is inert - doesn't work.

Expected Results:
The result expected would be as it is on one of my other similar PCs running
the earlier version 7.4.3.2 - the spreadsheet should open every-time maximized.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
My LO version 7.4.3.2 has been re-installed and LO version 7.4.0.3 has been
binned.

There is no indication suggesting the user profile is causing the inert
behavior.
Re-installation of a crrectly working software works fine.

This is not a bug; and this is exactly why passwords, telephone numbers, card
ids, and any other sequences of characters that are not numbers (i.e., are not
representing a value, and are not used for calculations) should be entered as
text.

See this FAQ: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq/Calc/Accuracy
It explains that Calc uses 64-bit binary numbers internally; and that format
only guarantees 15 decimals stored accurately.

Just pre-format respective cells/columns (which is also correct for CSVs), or
enter with leading apostrophe.

Sorry, LibreOffice has never recorded the per-document position nor size into
ODF document archive.

Nor does the most recently used (MRU) history recorded to user profile have
reference for position or size of documents.

Instead and since 4.2 the per-module UI state is recorded into profile [1]; the
position and size details per-module were what were disrupted by refactoring
that will be fully in place for a 7.5 release and that were partially reverted
to fix bug 150236

So, bug 41777 (and dupes, eg 75644) remain an enhancement request.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 150635] Numbers larger than 15 digits cannot be FORMATED as TEXT

2022-08-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=150635

1. Open a spreadsheet and enter a 14 digit number in a cell. Since the default
column-width is probably less than 0.9-inch, the number format will
automatically switch to scientific notation.
2. Enlarge the column-width to twice its default size and enter three more
numbers under the previously entered number, 15, 16, and 17 digits long. The 17
digit number will automatically switch to scientific notation no matter how
wide your column is and the 16 digit number will change as soon as you format
it to “text”.
3. If the 16 or 17 digit numbers are now copied to a text file, it will copy in
the scientific format which is not the same as the original number that was
typed in the spreadsheet. As a matter of fact, the original number is lost
(unless you happen to remember it) because the scientific notation cannot be
converted back to long form beyond 16 digits.

I just did a system upgrade and now I can reproduce this as well. What's
interesting is that Avahi is actually running for me, and is properly linked
into libsdlo as far as I can tell. Can reproduce on both 7.4.0 and 7.3.5 in
Archlinux. The Flatpak works fine, somehow.

I've talked to some people on #archlinux:libera.chat and they can't reproduce
this issue, which is really weird I've tried a new user, safe mode,
reinstalling, etc.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 150635] New: Numbers larger than 15 digits cannot be FORMATED as TEXT

2022-08-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=150635

Bug ID: 150635
Summary: Numbers larger than 15 digits cannot be FORMATED as
TEXT
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 3.5.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: tsf...@gmail.com

It is impossible enter numbers larger than 15 digits on a spread sheet, unless
the cell or row or column was pre-formatted to be text (Format
cells>Numbers>Text). Any number, larger than 15 digits is automatically
converted to scientific notation which is all right for calculations but not
for text value. Furthermore, such numbers converted to scientific notation and
saved as text, are irretrievably lost. For example: 12345678901234567 entered
as text, is not the same as its scientific equivalent 1.234567890123456E+16 and
yet the long form number will be lost and cannot be retrieved. That means, the
spread sheet cannot be used for storing long numerical passwords or open a .csv
file containing such passwords or data. Pre-formatting the spreadsheet to
“text” is not a solution because when opening a .csv file (or any data file)
you cannot know which cells will require such formatting and the value in those
cells will be lost.

Can not confirm.

The "toggle" *is* on the Tools menu.

Look again Tools -> AutoInput

And note that the function in Calc applies match to existing cell content held
in the same column as current cursor focus. The input "match" will not check
adjacent columns.

A bit more information: my original description of the bug appearing only on
HiDPI screen was incorrect: all that matters is that the system's scaling is
set to 200% or more.

If KDE's global scaling is turned to 175% or less, the issue does not occur. At
200% or more it is always a problem. (Unfortunately, on a 14" 4K laptop screen
175% UI elements and text are really too small to be usable!)

The problem is reproducible on non-HiDPI screens. On my old T420s laptop with a
1600x900 screen, if the scaling is set to 200% or more the cursor bug appears.
I also tested all this in X11 and Wayland sessions: the issue is consistent in
both.

Finally, the issue is not just confined to Writer, as it occurs in Draw,
Impress, and Calc as well. I have no found the issue in any non-LibreOffice
programs (e.g., office suites, text editors, web browsers).

Hopefully someone else can test and confirm this issue. I do want to test it on
a Gnome system too and external monitors, but I don't have a usb drive at the
moment (so I don't know if this is a LibreOffice issue in KDE only).

To test more consistently, I recommend using the following steps:

1. Open attachment 168800
2. Scroll down to have just a little bit of the large first picture at the top
of the viewport (this is to make sure the first line of Lorem ipsum is entirely
in the viewport)
3. Click on the picture with gold border
4. Press Delete on keyboard

Actual Results:

Viewport jumps up to show most of the first large picture.

Expected Results:

Viewport does not move given that the line the cursor is in is already
completely visible.

Are Telesto and Mulla talking about the same issue here? I feel like a jump is
expected when the line the cursor is in is not (entirely) visible.

I just tested in 7.0.6.2 and it works as expected, according to my description
above.

4 examples in writer and impress, before and after clicking "expanse" button

If view is set to "ribbon/tabbed/band" in writer sometimes not enough symbols
are display to fill free space of window/bar/tab, leaving free space.

Only after clicking twice on the expand button on the right side of the bar/tab
all the available space is filled with symbols. I changed also symbols from
Yaru to Elementary but same behaviour.

It hapeens most reproducible in maximized screen and in the "file" tab, where
it happens in writer and calc (but not in draw or impress), or in tab "extras"
where it happens in calc (but not in writer, impress and draw). And then
sometimes in other tabs.

I also noticed this behaviour at least during the last year with different LO
versions and under Linux Mint 20.3/Cinnamon.

See screenshots for better understanding.

Now using Linux Mint 21 (Cinnamon 5.11, based on ubuntu 22.04) and official
LibreOffice 7.3.5.2 from official Linux-Mint-repo, more system infos you can
find here: https://termbin.com/ov3f

Any help which I should try on my side? Is this known behaviour?

   Product: LibreOffice

OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: anti-str...@laposte.net

Description:
Hi, when starting deb package of LibO 7.4.0.3, splash screen appears, remains
solid, shows progress bar, then is replaced by LibreOffice GUI which makes sens
for user.

But when I start Flatpak of LibO 7.4.0.3, splash screen disappears as soon that
it appears, in the same (but inverted : zoom out) move, then nothing is shown
until LibO GUI shows up. Which is weird from a user point of view since zooming
out mean generally closing the application, not starting it. Which means that
the message is contradictory and the user feels uncomfortable with that
message.

Steps to Reproduce:
Start Flatpak LibO Writer, close it.
Start deb LibO Writer, close it.
Compare the visual experience

Actual Results:
Splash screen experience with Flatpak LibO Writer doesn't make sense

Expected Results:
Splash screen experience with Flatpak LibO Writer should reproduce Splash
screen experience with deb libO Writer

As far as I can tell, there's no way to get LibreOffice Writer to display the
cursor's current line number and column in the status bar, as many text editors
do. This is frequently very useful information. Please add it.

I am sorry, I made a mistake in my steps to reproduce. I said at step 2 to
press OK, but that works as expected, like the other comment said. The problem
is actually when you press enter instead of OK. In the old version that had the
exact same effect as OK, but in this version if you press ctrl-shift-C again it
preselects "Values Only" with a blue border, and if you then press enter it
takes that button for input instead of the OK button with the settings from
before.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 85493] VIEWING: In diagrams, tooltips shown over curve points show information about the wrong point when "Range for Name" cell values are not sorted in ascending order

I can still reproduce this with LibreOffice 7.4.

The pop-up tip over any point of the graph still gives wrong data information,
namely data information on a wrong point of the graph, as soon as X-axis-graph
data are sorted in any order different from the ascending one.
The bug description includes a small Calc sheet, which reproduces the bug.

I agree to add the Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office fonts that have a
proper substitute font here. However, I only know of:

Segoe UISelawik1
Tahoma Wine Tahoma
Calibri Carlito
Cambria Caladea
ConsolasDMCA Sans Serif, maybe also Inconsolata (I don't know if they
are metrically equivalent)

I created a table for my own use that I can share here, however it is a bit
messy, as there are many fonts that can be used in place of the
"original/proprietary" version.
