What kind of graph exactly do you mean? The charts that can be inserted in Calc

The “good” PDF has color emoji rendered black and while, while the “pad” has
them rendered in color, so the referenced commit is doing what it was supposed
to do.

It looks like this tool does not like the Type 3 font we are now embedding to
get glyphs rendered in color, but the error message does not tell much to act
on it.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 157120] pasting column with empty cells gives error

2023-09-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157120

(In reply to CSV from comment #9)
> Pasting "cells" is really pasting the CONTENT of cells, not an empty
> skeleton.

FWIW, that is not accurate. Generally speaking, you paste not only content but
also formatting (whether permanent or conditional, or both). But, you could use
"paste special" in order to paste content only, or format only, or using other
special options in order to obtain different results.

(In reply to m.a.riosv from comment #10)
> BTW, not pasting empty cells means that if in the destination range are not
> empty cells, they remain with their content, when they shouldn't.

I think this is not the case presented here. We are not talking about "skipping
empty cells" when copying or when pasting. We are talking about "not-pasting"
the "end" of the entire column(s)/row(s) under specific conditions, when the
source – column(s)/row(s) – was copied "entirely" and the destination
area/range would be smaller, so as to allow a simpler selection of the source
and destination ranges (from the users' perspective). The area/range to be
paste-on would be replaced, according to the kind of paste action (e.g. all,
values only, formatting only…).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 157126] New: txt output filter omits contents of frame if a section exists elsewhere in the document

2023-09-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157126

Bug ID: 157126
Summary: txt output filter omits contents of frame if a section
exists elsewhere in the document
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 24.2.0.0 alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: jim.av...@gmail.com

Description:
$ libreoffice --convert-to txt FILE.odt

If FILE.odt contains a frame with text inside it, and also contains an
unrelated 2-column section on the same page, then the text in the frame does
not appear in the resulting .txt file.

However if there is no section present in the document then the text in the
frame does appear in the .txt file

(I don't know whether it matters if the section is 2-column or not)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download the attached demo_txtout.odt
2. run the shell command: libreoffice --convert-to txt
/path/of/dump_textout.odt

Actual Results:
The resulting .txt file omits the "COMMON FAMILY NAMES" text at the top of the
document.

However, if the 2-column section is deleted, then the text conversion does
include the heading block.

Expected Results:
.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 155917] Writer crashes when inserting ODT file containing PDF into table in another ODT doc

2023-09-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155917

Created a fresh odt file with the table started empty (5x7, no heading) with
same file name as earlier version (is that acceptable?). Have annotated this
table with steps 1), 2), etc. describing what i did.

After pasting PDF file, moving cursor to a blank cell, and using Edit/Repeat
there is no effect visible to me. PDF files are not stacked on top of previous
pastes--there is only one image per cell.

Have not previously noticed the Insert/Section operation. Never used it, would
have to research what it is. Did not use CTL+V for pastes.

After pasting odt file (individual card) into table with Insert/TextFromFile, I
move cursor to another cell. When clicking Edit the menu shows explicitly the
repeat of paste option. Click on Repeat and Writer crashes consistently.

You are on version ahead of me (7.5.5 vs 7.5.4). I wait for openSuse to update
and 7.5.4 is their latest.

I'm not very experienced with this bug reporter and have made duplicate
comments so I hope the first odt file with the table has been overwritten with
the new version. Also notice the previous attempt to upload odt file that is
inserted failed--seem to have it this time :-)

Dear Alexander Polkhovskiy,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Education
OS Version:10.0.19045 N/A Build 19045

if I even attempt to use windows speech to text and it actually engages the
Libra office program crashes every single time without fail.

Could you please improve this as people like myself have injuries and can't
necessarily type through traditional methods & can't afford some other speech
to text program either? Thank you, very kindly.

It looks like the solution would be to implement Microsoft's tech services
framework within the application which should allow speech to text Microsoft
application to function without crashing the program 100% of the time.

Could any of the contributors give some guidelines on how this problem would be
approached and solved?

BTW, not pasting empty cells means that if in the destination range are not
empty cells, they remain with their content, when they shouldn't.
Or maybe you want in destination cells the same format as in origin.

To avoid assumptions, it's the better way to avoid mistakes.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 157120] pasting column with empty cells gives error

2023-09-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157120

Sorry if my terse language upsets you, sometimes it is needed to get the
required attention.

Pasting "cells" is really pasting the CONTENT of cells, not an empty skeleton.

Selecting a column is easier than scrolling down to say, line 123892, where the
remaining 924784 empty cells have no value, other than to create irritation,
and slow down the work. With over one million cells in a row a manual error
checking is a non-starter.

If you have to read a manual to use software there is a missed opportunity of
intuitive usability.

The attitude I usually get from developers is: "not a bug, suck it up" which is
an attitude I find unacceptable.

I have used Calc since early 2000's and found it useful, for a lot of things.
The famous alternative with more than 10 times the executable size has excelled
in crunching large datasets, where this one, 10 years ago, froze the PC for a
very long time.

Oo/Lo Calc is my goto spreadsheet program, to my coworkers chagrin, even-though
the famous alternative suite you can now find for $30 - $50 for a perpetual
license. That one misses out by rolling out tone-deaf improvements that makes
blood pressure go up.

I appreciate the work you guys do for this program.

Absolutely unacceptable, it's your attitude here.
Maybe you can patch the supposed improvement, and give a lesson to the
developers.

Same behaviour in OOo 3.3, so inherited.

That sounds sensible to me: discarding the bottom cells silently _only if they
are empty_. If they are not empty, show the same error message as currently.

As a side note: please keep in mind that a lot of the work on LibreOffice is
done by volunteers kindly spending their time on making this software better. I
don't think this is an appropriate "tone" when interacting with other
contributors on this bug tracker.
https://www.documentfoundation.org/code-of-conduct/

Indeed, I agree with m.a.riosv and ady that this report is better categorised
as an enhancement request.

Copying in the Design/UX team for their opinion on ady's suggestion.

Already the case in 6.0.0.3, when it started being possible to export as JPG.
(Eike's commit 52a6c68fb2fc817fc58419835cca73f6cd20b8fe for bug 108317). Didn't
check precisely at that commit, but assuming it's an implementation error.

I still see right and bottom white margins on selection export with:

Version: 24.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 2ae9eb8be8d7eb9c3a72953a295d128b45639ea3
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

In 5.4, the whole page is exported instead of the cell range.
In 6.0.0.3, cell range is exported but margin is already there.

I think it's an implementation error in the fix for bug 108317.
Eike, any opinion on it?

Not marking as a duplicate as bug 126319 was a 6.2 regression.

Can't reproduce in recent master nor in 5.1.0.2, when feature was introduced.
For me, it always results in a PNG of Sheet 1 - Page 1.

1. Open attached ODS
2. Without moving the cursor (in cell C4), use File > Export... > PNG.

Arnaud and m.a.riosv, can you please check again? (And I don't think the
"Selection" option is relevant here. I tested without it.)

Version: 24.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 2ae9eb8be8d7eb9c3a72953a295d128b45639ea3
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

When pasting a cell range that contains the chart into Gimp, I lose only the
legend text.

Using the linux-64-releases bibisect repo
- OOo 3.3 to LO 3.6: worked as expected.
- 4.0 to 7.4.0.0 alpha: chart missing, legend text missing (had to skip 4.0
betas 1 and 2, but 4.0.0.1 is bad)
- 7.4.0.0 beta1 to 24.2: only legend text missing

The partial fix in 7.4 is 964e2eaae9d32df201574e6f083acc630fed2f1d for bug
142635 (checked with linux-64-7.4 bibisect repo) - thanks Mike for that
improvement!
However, we're still missing some legend labels.

I can also confirm the sheet-renaming workaround: the copy-paste works fine
then!

bug 94319 is marked as resolved for version 7.6.0.
I have just tested version 7.6.0 with the test file I originally attached to
this bug, and I found that the bug is still present.
So it seems that this bug was NOT a duplicate of bug 94319.
For this reason I am reopening it.

The answer has at least 3 points.

On a new Calc, (with AutoInput set to ON):

A.1. Click on the input box (formula bar) (or on the "=" symbol on the formula
bar).
A.2. Start typing-in the function "=SUM". You should see a tooltip suggesting
possible functions, located near the *input box*.
A.3. Add the opening parenthesis, "=SUM(". The tooltip suggests arguments.
A.4. Press [ESC] twice (as we don't need to go further here).

Now click on some cell (in order to focus on it) that is more centered on the
screen; cell E10 for instance.

B.1. Press F2 (or double click on the same cell E10), or directly start by
typing-in the "=" symbol, in order to enter into cell's edit mode (and to
introduce a formula).
B.2. Start typing-in the function "=SUM". You should see a tooltip suggesting
possible functions, located near the *cell*.
B.3. Add the opening parenthesis, "=SUM(". The tooltip suggests arguments.
B.4. Press [ESC] twice (as we don't need to go further here).

Now go to menu Tools > AutoInput to set it to OFF. Then repeat the steps above
(A and B); the tooltip should not be displayed this time.

So, again, the precise location of newly-suggested tooltips (or any other
artifact) is relevant, and whether it is displayed should be configurable.
Let's not forget that we (can) have other artifacts near or around each cell
(comments/notes; formula indicator and hints; tooltips; trace arrows…) and
editing "in-cell" is already a problem for some users.

I agree; let's wait for some very relevant feedback/comments.

This may be relevant: I could not easily get a screenshot of the problem
because it "fixed itself" the moment I clicked outside of LO to do the
screenshot (I had to use the screenshot tool's timer mode to get it).

So it is not "clicking" that finishes the rendering, but (perhaps) any mouse
focus change.

So this might be a problem with interacting with XOrg.

Bug is definitive in the 7.6.0.3 version.

- tested with Windows PC where I switched off Windows Defender, problem
persists (hangs during save).

- reinstalled 7.5.5 version, graphics modifications and saving possible
