[Bug 161509] Built-in Microsoft Word style names are remapped on import but not on export
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161509 --- Comment #2 from Mike Kaganski --- (In reply to David Huggins-Daines from comment #0) > The comment in that function implies that the names will be converted back > on export. Unfortunately this is not entirely correct. They are remapped, > but not to the right names, for instance, "Heading 1" remains "Heading 1" > and not "heading 1" This ignores the fact that the mapping on import is many-to-one, and mapping on export is one-to-one. Do you claim, that there is no "Heading 1" -> "Heading 1" mapping on import? Or is there an evidence that the use of lowercase "heading 1" in current Word version (when the UI shows "Heading 1", and the attribute we are discussing is not an identifier, but the *UI name*) is the only one? Otherwise, what is the "not entirely correct" is based upon? > See core/sw/source/filter/ww8/styles.cxx > (GetStiNames). Again the comment does not match the code, it says "keep in > sync with StyleSheetTable::ConvertStyleName" but it is not in sync. Really? What is not in sync? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161262 --- Comment #3 from Michael Stahl (allotropia) --- this is intentionally not provided; browsers stopped showing such dialogs years ago because they just condition users to click OK and compromise their security; it's terrible UX. if you want to access your server with a self-signed certificate, add the certificate to the operating system's certificate store, this should work with TDF builds on all 3 platforms. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Bug 161509] New: Built-in Microsoft Word style names are remapped on import but not on export
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161509 Bug ID: 161509 Summary: Built-in Microsoft Word style names are remapped on import but not on export Product: LibreOffice Version: 7.4.7.2 release Hardware: All OS: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Writer Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: d...@ecolingui.ca Description: See https://github.com/python-openxml/python-docx/issues/494#issuecomment-2160619976 for some context. LibreOffice will remap Microsoft Word's style names to its own when importing DOCX. For example, "heading 1" becomes "Heading 1". The full table appears to be in core/sw/source/writerfilter/dmapper/StyleSheetTable.cxx:1555 (StyleSheetTable::ConvertStyleName) The comment in that function implies that the names will be converted back on export. Unfortunately this is not entirely correct. They are remapped, but not to the right names, for instance, "Heading 1" remains "Heading 1" and not "heading 1". See core/sw/source/filter/ww8/styles.cxx (GetStiNames). Again the comment does not match the code, it says "keep in sync with StyleSheetTable::ConvertStyleName" but it is not in sync. Surprisingly for a Microsoft product, the names are case-sensitive. This doesn't cause any actual issues when loading the files in Word since the style definitions are copied into the document. However it causes unexpected errors when using third-party code such as the python-docx module that expect the Microsoft internal names for built-in styles. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a file in Microsoft Word with a "Heading 1" 2. Load the file in LibreOffice 3. Re-export the file as DOCX with LibreOffice Actual Results: word/styles.xml in the output has: Expected Results: It should have (as in the original Word file): Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 7.4.7.2 / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 40(Build:2) CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 6.1; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-CA (en_CA.UTF-8); UI: en-US Debian package version: 4:7.4.7-1+deb12u2 Calc: threaded -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

(In reply to Patrick from comment #5) > I am assuming it's writing a temp file somewhere that contains each > character between writing/saving to the permanent file. What you are discussing is related to timed autorecovery. By default LO creates an AutoRecovery backup of modified files every 10 minutes (not after each keystroke). I assume that in the cases where this is "missing", the crash happened before the 10 minutes of modified time has occurred. [Bug 144511] [DOCUMENTATION] Please describe how auto-save works in enough detail so users know when it will occur
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=144511 --- Comment #3 from Justin L --- (In reply to Luke Kendall from comment #0) > I have no idea how Writer decides when to auto-save. These are implementation details that probably should not be enshrined in documentation, because then it becomes harder to change the implementation since some people will interpret that as "it must work this way" rather than "it does work this way". I'd say WONTFIX since the intention and implementations are pretty straight forward and logical. > 1. Is auto-saving something that is decided at some moment for all open > documents? Or is it performed per document, independently? Since LO 24.2 it is per document - independently. (Prior to that, I believe all modified documents were saved at the same time.) > 2. When auto-save happens for one open doc, does that mean it will soon > happen for other open docs? No. See #1 > 3. Auto-save occurs at an interval the user can control: what is the start > point for that period? Since LO 24.2, the timer starts when the document is modified. (Prior to that, I believe it was simply a timer - dependent only on the clock). > 4. When is the auto-save deleted (I assume there is only a single auto-save > for each open document) The ODF AutoRecovery file is deleted after the document itself is saved (i.e. when it is no longer the most recent version on disk). For a miniscule period of time, there are two auto-save copies. The old one is removed when the new one has successfully completed saving. > 5. Include a high level statement of what the feature is meant to achieve. "How many minutes of work on a document do I want to risk losing if LO crashes?" > Basically, I'd like to know when Writer will decide to auto-save so I can try > to save manually and thus avoid having it kick in and interrupt my workflow Please note that the answers above are all dependent on the computer detecting a "break" in the user's activity. It waits until an "idle period" has been reached, avoiding an interruption in the middle of typing a sentence, etc. #define MIN_TIME_FOR_USER_IDLE 1 // 10s user idle -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

Steps: 1) Open the attached file (ABC3.odt) for the first time. 2) Select image, press F4 (or go to the image properties dialog another ways). 3) Unselect 'Keep ratio'. 4) Click OK. 5) Enter the image properties dialog (F4) once again. [Bug 161377] Create an option to set ISO 8601 as the default date format for any locale.
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161377 --- Comment #22 from Mike Kaganski --- (In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #21) > Your idea of a checkbox or two radio buttons ("one option") limits the > request to either locale or ISO. Great! You got it. > But ISO 8601 is just one way to format date/time values, and not only bug > 46448 > asks for more freedom but I can easily think of a use case where people have a > locale of Klingon but want to get date/time values always in a specific > format. Your "I can easily think of a use case" is exactly bug 46448, so it is not "not only bug 46448 asks", but exactly "there is a *related but different bug 46448*". > While this particular request here is limited, the dropdown with all available > formats (plus Automatic or Locale Default) is more flexible and is not > detrimental on usability. So *your* idea is: let us do all or nothing. Let us ignore the normal practice of having *important cases* (like all those specific field types available separately, even though there is a Fields dialog that has them all). Let us ignore the situation where the dev input has been given. Let us imagine a "dropdown with all available formats" (as if your imagined dropdown could truly hold *all* available formats, including my custom "day: "D", month: "" of year ")... And finally, your idea is "do not implement something easily doable; better stall forever, waiting for some ideal solution in the undefined future". -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
